As a Mexican living in Auckland, one must daily struggle witnessing what “Mexican restaurants” sell as Mexican food, making people to think we only eat burritos and nachos (which are not even Mexican), disgraceful... Fortunately, La Fuente has surged as an awesome option to enjoy traditional Mexican flavors presented in appealing and enjoyable presentations. Not for the big mouthed though. Added to the unique opportunity to try mezcal in New Zealand, it’s a win win situation! The “torta de cochinita” was my favorite, as well as the “tostaditas de salmón” and the chocolate-mezcal truffles. The house mezcal is refined and delicious, but beware as it is a strong spirit (similar to tequila in strength). In a nutshell, La Fuente is an amazing place to share some always fun mezcal shots (and wine) and traditional but posh snacks with friends.

Excellent wine list. Mezcal served neat (no cocktails or mixers) but so impressed by the bespoke service. Keen to try the food.

Excellent service and wine knowledge. I can’t remember what food we had but it was really delicious; especially the plate with the wine pictured. I hope this place survives in this dog-eat-dog world!

This is the place! The BEST tacos, mezcal and an amazing wine list. The atmosphere is warm, the team are friendly and knowledgeable and will always have a chat. I want to go back from just thinking about it…

We are so grateful to Angela and the team at La Fuente. We had a birthday party here recently, with about 25 guests, and La Fuente really helped us out with a great space, delicious food, and wines, beers and cocktails to keep everybody happy. We are so glad we chose La Fuente for this event. Highly recommended!

I always find La Fuente an amazing friendly place. Tonight I was just looking to try a couple of Mezcal but the chef provided insight and tasters of some of the ferments he had been experimenting with. Only an hour but one I valued.

Amazing place! We went there for a birthday dinner and we were greeted and treated with the best care. All the staff are so accommodating especially Harry! She was giving us the best vibes and honestly made the experience worth while. Give Harry a raise!! She deserves it. Thank you La Fuente 😊

Why did nobody tell me about this place before? OMFG amazing. 10 stars. I was so busy having a good time I only got one picture and the food is already smashed, but the mushroom and meat thing was soooo delicious. See I didn’t even pay attention to the menu, I just ate what came out and died happy. The owner, Edwardo (sp?) is an absolute epic legend of a man, his recommendations were impeccable so if you come here just ask him to take you on a magical mystery tour. You won’t regret it. Special mention to Harri who served our table, you rock. Can’t wait to come back.

Just happened on this place by chance and very glad that I did. Nice ambience, passionate owner and great food, along with mezcal and natural wines. Forget tequila, mezcal is where it’s at.

Possibly the best food I ate in New Zealand, and that's saying something. We had a few tapas - the guacamole with pumpkin seeds, the ceviche, and the guanciale with courgettes. They were next-level out-of-this-world. Topped it off with a few fine/rare mezcals (Lost Explorer, 12 year). Had to come back again to try the tacos... and just wow. Eat here, you won't regret it... you might even still be thinking about it a month later and writing a review on Google.

Has been my go to wine & ceviche spot since they opened. Edmundo has impeccable taste in wine selections. I have never left with a bad bottle of wine. If you’re also keen to try some mezcal, this is the place. There’s also an option to buy mezcal which is an added bonus.

Was with a group of friends, guy behind the bar was fairly rude /abrupt unfortunately hence the 2 stars. Wine selection is very good Other reviews say the service is great, sadly we did not experience that :-( we really wanted a good experience but this guy put us off

Quite literally the best guacamole I've ever eaten (and I love me some guacamole), and the rest of the menu is also on point. Paired with delicious mezcal & beer. Plus the staff are absolutely lovely.

Just stopped by for some oysters and wine. They have a nice wine selection and good food.

This was the most exquisite dining experience I’ve ever had. The food and drinks were both literal works of art, both in look and in flavor. I had the tuna and guanciale plates they offer, and the depth and complexity of the flavor brought me to my knees. Everything balanced perfectly in both dishes to the point where every time I took a bite I just had to close my eyes, block out everything else, and let the experience of the food overtake me. The margaritas I had were best drinks I’ve ever had in my life, and I am not much of a drinker at all. The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about not just the menu as a whole, but every single ingredient, and were happy to answer any and every question thoroughly and with a smile. They put an incredible amount of pride and heart into what they do there that is rarely seen. I was also lucky enough to share a glass of Mezcal with the owner, Edmundo. He is an incredibly friendly, cultured, and welcoming soul whom all should have the pleasure to meet. The experience he, his staff, and his restaurant offer is worth flying from wherever you are in the world to Auckland and back again on its own, no other stops in the country required (and this is possibly the most beautiful piece of land in the world we’re talking of here). I will absolutely return here at any and every opportunity, especially once I’m able to emigrate there.

The best wine bar I have been to in the world. Edmundo has become a good friend. Best bar/place I've been to in Auckland. Ambiance beautiful, Mundo amazing, and wine wonderful. What makes this place is the host and and the beautiful atmosphere.  Cannot recommend more.!

I had an amazing experience here. We told the owner we wanted to try and learn about mezcal and proceeded to have such a fun hour as she excitedly sat down with us and told us ALL about mezcal, and walked us through trying a variety of mezcals (side note - I tried one that jalapeño flavor notes)! It was so fun, a highlight of our trip! THANK YOU.

Fantastic small place with authentic food and a cracking drinks list. Staff are incredibly friendly and knowledgable. Highly recommend the Smokey margaritas and the skin contact wine.

Fabulous little spot nested in the city center with authentic Mexican food. The owner/host Edmundo is energetic and knowledgeable on his home country's cuisine and mezcal.  ¡Muchas gracias!

Could not have possibly asked for more from La Fuente and Edmundo. Loved that there was no drinks menu and you had to find out about the mezcal from having a conversation, and Edmundo sharing his stories and opinions on the mezcal was such a pleasure. Beautiful wee bar and an impressive amount of wines and mezcals. Mezcal negroni was fantastic and the food menu also looks great, I will for sure return when next in Auckland.

Good service. But the taco is the worst I have ever had.
