I have thought long and hard about submitting a review on my experience with Manukau after hours clinic but I can't get the experience out of my mind. Firstly I have no complaints about the staff as I am sure they were just following the protocols as laid down by management. Last week I took my guinea pig after hours for a consultation as he was screaming in pain, I was charged $300.00 for a consultation and some painkillers but was advised to leave him over night so they could investigate more for a cost of approximately $900.00. I could not afford this so was offered to have him put down for a cost of a further $300 - $400. Now, I'm not complaining about the high cost of the consultation as it was out of hours and pretty much what I expected to pay. My complaint is that due to the fact that I couldn't afford to have him put down or left over night. I was made to feel really guilty which left my daughter and I in tears as we took him home. The next morning I managed to get an emergency appointment with a local vet with the total cost being $75.00 which included the consultation and putting him to sleep. The main reason for this poor review is the extortionate cost of euthanasia. Surely if Manukau out of hours clinic cared as much as they say they do about animals then instead of trying to guilt someone into debt they would reduce the charge a bit for euthanasia. $300 -$400 on top of a consultation and painkillers ( $700.00 in total ) is absolutely ridiculous and the guilt trip was totally unnecessary as I was feeling awful anyway. I will never use this service again.

I’m rating anonymously but I came in with a stray puppy that had appeared on my porch. It seemed very sick, her stomach was bigger than her body and she looked very skinny. I decided to take her into this vet as it was an emergency. We first walked in and the receptionist was very rude and not understanding at all. The first thing she asked was “is your dog vaccinated” we said no and i would have been understanding if she kindly told us to just wait in the car park but she rudely says “take your dog out I don’t want MY hospital to be full of diseases from your dog”. That wasn’t even the start, she didn’t examine or look at my puppy it was still outside of the car park, she said it maybe parvo and unless we pay the down payment then they won’t do anything about it. We tried to see if there was any other way or if we could pay half of the amount today and the rest after. She denied and said take her to another vet. My puppy past away in their car park while we cried in THEIR CARPARK! Money greedy vet. No empathy whatsoever. They don’t care about any of your animals unless you have money. Get a job where you’re passionate in what you do and not just for the money. I will remember this traumatising event for the rest of my life. If you really care about your pets and animals, stray or yours NEVER bring them here.

Manukau After Hours Vets were absolutely incredible. Our beloved Whiskey was admitted last Friday 19/8. They were so lovely and reassuring. Although our hopes were low, we were offered different treatment options and were respected when we needed time. Unfortunately our beautiful boy had a heart attack and didn’t make it. However, they were incredibly empathetic and even put some gorgeous flowers with him. A special thanks to the lovely lady on reception. She had short black hair (apologies for not remembering your name- we blame it on the tears). You were nothing but kind, understanding and made being in the worst of situations, more bearable. Thank you

We took our 8 year old Pomeranian, Winnie to the Manukau After Hours Clinic on a Sunday evening where they advised us that she needed Pyometra surgery. Our experience here was great, despite the stressful situation we were in. We are very grateful for the excellent service, that not only Winnie received, but we received also. It was well worth the drive, all the way from West Auckland to this clinic. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. They kept in touch and let us know how everything was tracking every step of the way. Including detailed clinical notes upon discharge. The surgery happened in a few hours and was a success. We were able to pick her up in the morning. Thank you to Lua at reception, for making sure we felt welcome and for taking the time to distract us with nice conversations the entire time we were there. And a very big thank you to Dr Margaret Gater, who went above and beyond to see the entire surgery through and saved Winnie’s life. We were told her shift would end at midnight but at 7:30am, she was still with our Winnie, right up until she handed her back to us. This was well over a 14 hour shift! We were so happy knowing Winnie was in good hands and cared for the entire time. Margaret is the most compassionate and kind Veterinarian, who we would absolutely recommend to anyone. We will forever be grateful for what she has done for Winnie. All in all, we highly recommend this clinic for any emergencies. Fantastic team and service!

We came in for a foster kitten who unfortunately had been overdosed. All staff we encountered were compassionate and understanding. Everyone was friendly and welcoming. Our kitten was well looked after and recieved the best and most gentle care. If we ever need an after hours vet again we would absolutely come here. Thankyou for everything you do!

The team saved our fitz life at the end of last year. It is more expensive then ‘normal’ day time vets which is why having pet insurance is vital.

We came in with our beloved elderly pet and both us and our pet were treated so kindly by the receptionist. We really appreciate the level of care and aftercare, and genuine caring treatment we recieved as it was a hard time for my partner and I. The receptionist went above and beyond. Would absolutely recommend to anyone.

These guys are lifesavers. Thank you to everyone involved from admin staff to triage nurses and the doctors. You guys are rock stars! Special thanks to Leah who operated on my dog, she has made a full recovery thanks to you! Please treat these guys with respect they deserve. And people who 1 star this place don't seem to understand how triage works or the costs involved in healthcare.

Reception lady was friendly and lovely. Came in this morning to check a cut on my dogs' paw. Found it disturbing to see animal management vehicle in carpark with a beautiful brown dog at the back going to be put down. I had asked how the dog could be saved. I was told the dog had parvovirus and couldnt. As I left the vet, the beautiful brown dog had been muzzled, laying down euthanized by two veterinarians at the back of the truck. Is it common practise to euthanize a dog in a public carpark? As a dog lover, I left feeling traumatized by the experience. I own a rescue dog and it is a heartbreaking thing to see. I don't think animals should be put down in a public space where public can see 😭

A great team that really helped my dogs after a dog attacked them. Treated the wounds and prescribed the aftercare, my dogs are recovering well. Worth saving their details if you ever need an after hours vet.

I took my Maltese puppy around 9:30pm last night to get a check up and a test done as he has been vomiting excessively, didn’t eat anything after 6am that morning, couldn’t hold down water, was hiding away from everyone and had no strength to stand up. After waiting 2.5hours for the vet to return with the test result they invited me into a room where my puppy was finally able to get a check up done. This was another hour’s wait after being told to wait “10min”. When the vet came in (very friendly) she examined my puppy and recommended I go see my vet the next morning to get an xray and ultrasound done (which was fine, no issues). However my issue is when I took my pup to the vet this morning they were shocked that the vet I went did not put my pup on a drip as this was a life threatening situation. My pup was extremely dehydrated. My pup was neglected and seen as a non emergency even though he’s literally fighting for his life right now. You guys could’ve done more to help my pup. Do better.

It’s never nice to have to see your beloved pet call time, but my wife’s family and I felt very well looked after. We came in on Friday 19th, and the lovely lady working reception was thoughtful, considerate and professional despite the circumstances. Thank you again to the team for doing what you can to help out cat out and making our lives as easy as they could have been given the circumstances.

Our cat had a nasty cut on her abdomen and we look her in late evening. A nurse immediately triaged her and ensured she had pain relief. Though the clinic was busy, we were seen quickly and surgery was arranged. Our cat stayed overnight and the team took great care of her, spending time explaining medications and follow up care. I felt they made a stressful visit easy and really cared about both us and our fur baby. In addition, they made sure we had all the information we needed for insurance purposes. Highly recommend!

It is a unfortunate that we took our German Shepard on the 8th of this month to this late hour veterinary, we didn’t receive any respect from the staff and we weren’t treated with respect from the staff. Once we entered the facility, the reception informed us to wait in a separate room alone with our puppy where she took some basic notes from us and informed us to wait while our dog was suffering. After around 1 hour, the vet came in touching around our dog and informed us that she will be coming back in 10 minutes, while we waited she was chatting with joy with her colleagues and completely ignored our treatment, in reality, she told us that she will be combing back 10 minutes, we waited 30 minutes and we rushed out to the staff area where I and my family argued that we didn’t receive the treatment and respect that we shall deserve from any vet. The staff was very rude and verbally abusing us. Don’t come to this horrible place. For the sake of you and your puppy’s wellbeing.

This place has excellent service! Our dog got sick late at night and we went in around midnight. The nurse at the reception (couldn't find her name on the website) was really nice and took excellent care of our dogs till Dr Dalton could see them. The Doc was professional and carefully explained what had happened and explained what we had to do carefully.

Had an urgent trip to the vets yesterday after my dog ate some toxic food. The vets did an amazing job of making the visit as easy as possible for my reactive dog. I'm really impressed and grateful we have good care near us if we need it. Big thanks to the whole team!!

Been here twice now - last year and 2 wks ago. Both times I can only comment positive feedback to Manukau After Hours Vet. Each medical provider we've met has been thorough in checking potential issues. They ensure that each test and medications given are explained. To a stressed fur parent and unwell dog, this approach is very important. I'm pleased I got to know this medical place. Hope I never have to visit again, but just glad that each visit is worth every penny.

Ideally we wouldn’t have needed a visit, but we did and all the staff were so kind, patient and tentative towards every single visitor. Even other people in the waiting room were full of empathy for each other. Thank you for taking the time to run through every possibility for our wriggly tortie, Donna.

I can't fault my experience in any way. The staff were welcoming, and the vet was personable and so caring. All the staff greeted my little dog and patted her with big smiles and genuine care for animals. The wait was about an hour and fifteen minutes, but it didn't bother me as more urgent cases were seen quicker, which made sense. The practice is very clean and well run. Thank you for making a stressful situation less so.

We took our dog Buddy and Dr Kevin Dalton dealt with Buddy and my family with such dedication and empathy, he did a 12 hour shift to keep buddy comfortable and kept us updated. He is such a good human. Thank you Kevin. From The Deep family.

First time using the services here and 100% impressed with service provided. Staff are very attentive and very welcoming. Was also impressed watching the staff working with a very distressed parent of a fur baby that unfortunately couldn't be saved, I know it comes with the job but they showed compassion and understanding at clearly a very difficult time. If I need out of hours service again will be my first choice every time!!

I brought my dog to the clinic second night in the row after she had suffered allergic reaction to after surgery medicine and been given steroids shot. During all day after first night admission to your clinic she was vomiting and I described the situation to your nurse over the phone before we arrived. Unfortunately, my dog is terrified of vets , she was sitting frozen and didn’t vomit at the clinic. Therefore we were waiting 2 hours instead of quoted 30 (over the phone) and 45 (on arrival) minutes. When another urgent case went ahead of us again, I had to rush her to another clinic. She immediately vomited on me in the car. We got to another clinic just in time to save her from extreme dehydration and reduce her vomiting. She was diagnosed later with an acute pancreatitis case triggered by the anti allergy shots and we nearly lost her. I think you should trust owners more when they urge you to pay attention to the pets even when they look being OK.

Very disappointed in the service I received today. Rang up because my puppy has been sick they said sounds like pavo bring him in to get checked, before assessing the dog they charges me for a pavo test then they checked the puppy and said feed it chicken and rice no actual reason to why she's sick.4 hrs later and 400 out of pocket a bit expensive,in all honesty if they assessed the dog first they would of known its not pavo and seems like a good way to take customer money Lady on the desk was very nice

I had to take my cat in during the middle of the night. The warmth and care we received from Kevin and the nurses were absolutely amazing. It was a difficult time for my family and I, and the team at the clinic gave us so much support, sympathy and uninterrupted time with our baby in his last few hours. I have worked within the veterinary industry since 2007, 4 cities and 2 countries and I know enough to say that this team went above and beyond the call of duty. They handled us with such care, I am very thankful to them. Taking my baby there I already knew he wouldn't make it, Kevin handled the situation with the utmost respect and consideration and he was so gentle in giving me the news I dreaded, even suggested I spend more time with my baby which would have easily been an inconvenience for the staff but none of that mattered to them. In a world that is cold, it truly is a blessing to still find warm people. Thank you Kevin and the nurses who were on duty that night. Each of you made a difference in this heartbreaking situation we are in.
