It's not the fault of the park. Not only do they shut the gates at night, but they close the toilets. Do they think people only go during the day and hold on all night? Some PC council goon will tell you it prevents people breaking the law. Well, i can tell you it encourages people to relieve themselves in a public place, and that's breaking the law too.

Family friendly reserve with heaps of car parks and toilet. There is a cycleway and walkway. You can also walk to Onehunga Bay Reserve that is on the other side of the motorway. There are no trees here. So summer can be very hot.

A nice coastal park and walkway, part of which is on reclaimed land. Plenty of picnic spots, a couple of safe swimming beaches for the kids and a boarded walkway beneath the cliffs with nice views of the Manukau Harbour. The only negative is that is sits next to the southwestern motorway but its cleverly designed so its out of sight and very little sound carries.

Great for walking and being outside. The wind is freezing no matter what time of year. Not sure about swimming as it drops off good for a wee paddle. Great access to the harbour for boats or sea kayaks.

This is a good place for a stroll. Some of the paths are gravel and there are easy grades up to the bridges.

They changed the hours to make it harder for people to freedom camp. 6am- 6pm is the new winter time.

Truly amazing place to either chill, run around, bring out your dogs, or even had a lousy picnic with your child, because it had a huge plains with view towards shores. Unfortunately, the bike trail through the cliff side were closed due to unstable ground. Also last time I visit the park (November 2023), it being said that they halt the maintenance for the whole park, thus don't be startled if the public toilets or some features aren't working enough.

Great beach for a swim on a hot summers day when Onehunga is at high tide (especially when East Coast beaches are at low tide at the same time). This beach is perfect. You must swim an hour either side of high tide so that when you put your feet down you are on standing on the sandy bottom. At lower tide levels you will be further out to where it gets a bit muddy and has nasty Pacific Oysters, that can cut your feet, but at high tide it is fantastic. It is especially good after a calm spell on the Manukau, as the water has had time to clear, making the water as good as any east coast beach.

What a great walking trail. Take it all the way to the end of the long winding wooden bridge for unique scenery!

With the perfect view of Mount Mangere, this beautifully maintained and locally adored historic reserve tells the ongoing story of this significant waterway; frozen in time. Technology meets nature in this urban natural landscape and makes for a spectacular picnic destination. Featuring sandy beaches and grassy knolls to your hearts content, it's a great place to get away from the rush, and only a 10min walk from Onehunga Mall.

The Reserve offers lots of great opportunities for hiking, picnic, cycling, photography & other water sport activities. The walking track along the coast is well built & I love it.
