👍👍 Interesting place to visit. Some of the buildings look great and others could use a coat of paint, which they appear to be in the process of doing. Definitely check out the view from the top of the watch tower. It costs 10000 kyat to get into the complex. People often mention Mandalay, palace, tower,

A large complex of the accomodation of the Royal family and all the associated staff, concubine (wives?) and the various meeting areas for state business. It's an all wood structure so a fire risk but also requiring competent maintenance to preserve this cultural and historical gem.

Mandalay Palace was the primary royal residence of King Mindon and King Thibaw, the last two kings of the country. The complex ceased to be a royal residence and seat of government on 28 November 1885 when, during the Third Anglo-Burmese War, troops of the Burma Field Force entered the palace and captured the royal family. The British turned the palace compound into Fort Dufferin, named after the then viceroy of India. Throughout the British colonial era, the palace was seen by the Burmese as the primary symbol of sovereignty and identity. Much of the palace compound was destroyed during World War II by allied bombing; only the royal mint and the watch tower survived. A replica of the palace was rebuilt in the 1990s with some modern materials. Today, Mandalay Palace is a primary symbol of Mandalay and a major tourist destination. Thank you. Wiki

Decent view from up there. Not very well maintained, a lot of the wood is rotten and the structure is overall shakey. Did not feel very safe leaning against the railings.

This vantage point is hardly worth the effort it takes to climb the rickety old stair case. The parts of Mandalay you can see are not that impressive, the view of Mandalay Hill which would be good is largely obscured by the Palace tower. I wouldn't bother unless you want the exercise.

Located inside Mandalay palace. The tower provides a good view of all the surrounding buildings and is great for taking photos

Due to earthquake, the watch tower was abandoned. This tower is in a remote area where you can only go by taxi

It’s a nice place to visit, just too bad the government didn’t take good care of it. Most of the building are not well maintain.

Its an honor to write a review this kind of building. In this building you can see all of the ancient buildings and places clearly in the palace. Moreover you can see the buildings in Mandalay if you have good eye sight. You can breathe fresh air and take photos with great background. Suggest, it is higher than you think. Although you will tire of climbing, you will feel the best experience when you reach the top.

👍👍 Although I've been staying in Mandalay for 20 years, I got there just today. We bypassed this sacred building when we go to Mandalay hill. The Buddha image represent the last moment of life.
