Roxborough State Park is one of the best state parks in Colorado in my opinion. The red rocks really make this park special and you have a completely different experience depending on which season you hit the park. The lights and shadows interplaying with the rocks are amazing to see in person. The Willow Creek Loop is my favorite trail here and you get amazing views on the loop. I highly recommend doing this park after a fresh snow because the contrast of the snow against the red rocks is epic. This is also one of my favorite places to shoot in the fall but no matter when you go you will love this park!

Take a short journey West off 470 in Littleton and you’ll find Roxborough State Park. The park charges a $10.00 fee to get in, but it’s totally worth it. The park has plenty of parking, a visitor center with bathrooms, and guide maps to help guests. They have multiple trails- all with levels of difficulty displayed. If you’re looking for an amazing hike with incredible views - try the Carpenters Trail. It’s designated as, “strenuous” - I feel I need to tell you that. Trust me - the views at the top - 3.4 miles from the Visitor Center - are totally worth it! Enjoy.

I think most people try to visit Red Rocks Park since it's more well known but there's a bit of a hassle with the amphitheater and certain closing times. Roxborough is off the beaten path and probably lesser known but hands down a better experience and well worth the drive. The easy walking paths are simple enough for everyone and probably even suitable for motorized ADA devices that can handle fine gravel. The more advanced paths will get you up close and personal with the trees and the rocks. The park is known as being a "tranquil and treasured place" and it lives up to this description as the park is so quiet and peaceful.

Really beautiful place to hike around. Was amazing to be in nature and see lots of wildlife. There was a beautiful picnic area near the trail heads so you can have a nice lunch break after or before hiking. Will definitely be visiting again.

5/28/22 - ROXBOROUGH STATE PARK - I always drive to Garden of Gods but who knew this place could be the a go to when your close to Denver. -Came here before 6am for the sunrise but it was cloudy. Few people, not busy or noisy like Garden of Gods. As I entered, I was welcomed by deers and a moose. -Nice and clean. Great place to hike (easy hike), you can hear at least 10 different types of bird’s singing and echoing from the rocks and trees. -Must go to “Fountain Valley Overlook”, the views are wonderful 360 degree.

We did the Fountain Valley loop trail and it was very easy steady incline in some parts. Beautiful views, lots of pretty wild flowers, and well maintained trail. There was a pretty long wait to get into the park but it was very worth it.

Really enjoyed my first visit to Roxborough state park! As most people know, it is a $10 fee to enter Colorado state parks. I went early September, and had no issues with lines entering the park. Nice visitor center with a great, spacious picnic area with a large awning. Restrooms are located inside the visitor center. Hiked the popular Fountain Valley trail and boy did I regret going mid-day! This trail is HOT. The high was 82° and I was drenched in sweat. Minimal shade, with lots of direct sunlight. Hiker beware! Looking forward to returning once fall temps are here to stay!

Beautiful trails. Not far from Denver. Easy parking. I went after visitor center was closed, so not sure if bathrooms close at a certain time or not.

Southwest Denver’s secret gem. Beautiful hikes for seasoned hikers or short easy ones—great for visiting friends/family, who aren’t used to the altitude, to experience. Be aware that pets are not allowed in the park.

Had a wonderful time hiking at Roxborough. The trails were clearly marked and well maintained even during winter month. The carpenter peak trail took almost 4 hours from start to finish and is definitely recommended for beautiful formations and views.

This is a very scenic park. Fountain Loop Trail is an easy hike with something for everyone. It circles a ridge of spectacular red sandstone formations that let the imagination run wild with shapes that tower over the trail. I took my time with a counter clockwise approach to the loop. The eastern half overlooks large meadows and I had the pleasure of seeing a huge buck with an impressive rack. The top of the loop has what is left of Persee Place. Heading back on the western, southbound side of the loop there are some nice shade areas and you become surrounded with the rock formations in just about every shape imaginable. My watch showed a total elevation gain of 296 feet which was spread out making an easy hike with no challenges making it the perfect hike for kids or those that are slowing down.

Late fall and early winter are often forgotten times to visit Roxborough but you’ll be missing the changing of seasonal time browns, blues and yellow - with a splash of red if you look close enough. Quiet awaits as do the warmth of the sun on your face. Trails are for you to enjoy. Parking? Easy this time of the year. Enjoy Colorado at its best time of the year!

Beautiful rock formations. Peaceful. Easy walk. No bikes allowed which is great. No need to keep an eye for somebody coming down the corner while you're enjoying the walk. Clean and well maintained. Totally recommended!

Wonderful little park to visit on sunny days. If you plan on arriving in the summer. Plan on arriving early to ensure you don’t have to wait to get into the park with its limited capacity. There is a bathroom on the grounds but it’s a traditional outdoor bathroom so don’t expect a 5 star hotel. Well worth the walk and the view of you get a chance to visit!

Went to Roxborough with friends we were visiting & loved it!! On the west side of Denver so very easy access & they had a park pass so we got in free but the entrance fee is very reasonable & the park is day use only. Very clean & welcoming Visitor Center & the park rangers were very friendly & helpful. There's about 15 miles of trails they are well maintained & marked lots of great views & we enjoyed a 3 mile hike on a beautiful I highly recommend this state park!!

My favorite place to hike in tri county, super close to home yet it still feels secluded from civilization and natural. Their team does a really nice job making the visitor center feel inviting, and they have drinks, maps, guides & snacks for purchase. The trails and all open areas are really well maintained and you can feel how special this place is to everyone that works there. Trail options for all ages and levels of strenuousness So beautiful!

Really beautiful path to walk and cool little museum type place to check out for free. I was so amazed at the beauty of the mountains and trees, that were going back in the morning. There's a $10 fee to get in per car though. Not bad. We brought our 2 small kids of course, and they were just intrigued by the beauty. Def recommend!

Beautiful park. Well maintained. Dogs are not allowed, at all. Rangers were friendly. Trails were well marked. 100% recommend this place.

Beautiful day! The absolute best volunteer staff and salary staff. Lots of speed bumps on the way in so look out for unmarked bumps as some of the paint has faded.

This park was not crowded at all. We saw a large number of wild flowers and a few deers. The top view is from the Carpenter trail. Dogs are not allowed here, so keep your furry babies at home.

I love Roxborough, not a huge variety of trails at a glance, or particularly difficult, but you can certainly cover plenty of ground if you wanted. The main thing is, it is so well maintained and beautiful. Always an abundance of deer, birds, and flowers (signs say bears and mountain lions too!). Especially beautiful right now, with all the rain, it is so green and overgrown, it is quite an escape, enjoy it while it lasts. Obviously a state park so an entrance fee is required, either by day pass at the gate, annual pass, or KCW pass through your vehicle registration (best deal!). Oh, and heads up for those new to the park with fur babies...not allowed unfortunately.

It's such a beautiful little retreat in Colorado! We love hiking the trails and just being out in nature with no cell service. This place has to be the cleanest state park we've been to. There are no dogs allowed , so keep that in mind. There is a dog day just outside the entrance if needed.

We had such a fun time at the beautiful Roxborough State Park! The trails are super easy even in snow with little kids, the views are gorgeous, and the staff at the visitors center were so sweet and helpful! They even had a little table for kids to sit and color, a screen with recent animals seen, cozy seating inside to warm up, bathrooms were clean and easily accessible, and just in general a great experience!

My husband and I went here yesterday to end 2022 off right! It was our first time coming here and the park is so close to Denver! It's beautiful and you get to see plenty of red sandstone rock formations. We also saw some deer in the distance and plenty of wildlife trails. The hikes are all relatively short but you can combine them to get more mileage. We will definitely be coming back here and are excited to try out the other hikes. Might come with our snowshoes after the next storm and see if we can use them.

I've been to Denver several times but this place was a first and I really loved it! The rocks are dramatic and cast beautiful shadows. We followed the trail to the overlook, which is an easy walk on gravel, and we took lots of pictures. There's a house along the way that appears to be a historic site but it wasn't open, it would have been fun to have visited the inside. The area is supposed to be especially beautiful in the snow with the white as a lovely contrast to the red rocks and also in the spring with green against the red.

This state park is gorgeous, pristine, and quiet. While on my morning hike I ran into a handful of groups but for the large majority of the time I was alone with my thoughts and nature ☺️ If you are planning to come here, keep in mind that wildlife does live here. There are signs for bears, rattlesnakes, and mountain lions. With that in mind, if you are bringing kids, please keep them in your sight. I know this is obvious for most but I ran into a group that let one kid straggle 30 or 40 feet behind them which just feels irresponsible given the wildlife you may encounter here.

Nice park with some beautiful loop trails. We did the 2.2 mile Fountain Valley trail and had lots of photo opportunities. The three mule deer we saw weren't afraid of us at all (but we didnt approach the, just walked 20' away on the trail).

Very nice hiking spot. View of rocks is awesome from the various trail ends of the park. Calm and and middle of the jungle. Be on the trail is the first moto of this place, to be cautious.

Awesome park with great views! We did the Fountain Valley Trail. It was pretty easy and good if you're hiking with kids. You can even take a scroller. There's limited parking, though. Make sure to get there early or they might be closed or you have to wait for others to leave.

The Roxborough State Park is incredible - lots of trail options, short and long, easy and difficult. The views of the rock formations and Denver in the background get better the higher you go. The gates open at 7AM - I got there early and was almost the only one on the trails. It does get busy quickly, though. A park pass is required, but it can be purchased at the entrance. It's going to be my new go-to park for hiking and trail running.
