Firehouse Lounge has an interesting story. Inside an international hostel, both the speakeasy and hostel are built inside the oldest still-standing fire house in Austin, Texas. Built in 1885, it's a historic building. When you walk inside, go through a bookcase to get to the spacious speakeasy with a bar, tables and couches. Due to space on a Saturday evening, we sat at the bar and ordered cocktails and Austin Eastcider. Our drinks were average. They were playing loud music, proving I am solidly in my 30s and wanting a quieter space. The nearby Driskell Bar provided that space.

An amazing hostel with amazing vibes. People staying here are very respectful, silence hours are respected, you're right in the middle of downtown with many places to visit, just great :D

I warn you before you leave to check the receipt and take a picture before you leave. I had a bad experience about this place ordering a Lemon Drop and paying before the drink was brought out. I'm sure it's around $20 including tip however after returning home and checking the bank bills I found that my account was debited by almost $50. I contacted them but they either late and ignored for responding the receipt. It's disappointing and feels it's not worth doing so. I have read old reviews and have seen some of the 1 star reviews have the same experience of payment fraud as mine.

Unless you want service from bartenders who hate their life, I suggest that you find somewhere else. I have been here numerous times with friends, family, and my partner. Each time your met with a bartender with a bad attitude. My guess, bad management?! I donโ€™t understand it, If you do not want to interface with the public, I suggest exploring a new career perhaps? Great thing about Austin, there are many bars to captia. Find somewhere else to drink for 14 dollars a cocktail!

Best bar of the night. Bartenders knew their stuff and interacted well with the customers. Old fashioned wasn't the best ever, but the sazerac was good. Definitely will come back.

One of the few speak easies in Austin. The Firehouse Lounge is hidden behind a bookshelf. The drinks and cocktail menu is good and solid. Recently had the chance to be there when a great salsa band played. Super nice atmosphere!

Unique and fun with a hidden entrance. Slightly off the beaten path with quirky movies playing in the dim light. They've got all the classics on the menu, well made for very decent prices considering their prime downtown location. The sidecar is always well made and strong and the daiquiri is a true daiquiri not some mash of strawberry and syrup.

The service wasn't very personable, the bartender didn't really speak and barely eye contact with us which was.... odd especially since this place isn't very big and wasn't very crowded. However, with that said, our drinks were great! They played good music soulful 70s vibes โ˜ฎ๏ธ๐Ÿชฉ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ. I went on a Thursday night and it was a nice crowd, not too hot or over packed. I had plans to bar hop and ended up staying here and enjoyed my night.

First time I've ever been to this place and it won't be my last. We had a great time and the service was amazing. The drinks were great too! I ordered an espresso martini and absolutely loved it! The music was also great! Definitely recommend and I will definitely be coming back!

I had a okay experience at Firehouse Lounge; the atmosphere truly captured the essence of a speakeasy with its hidden entrance behind a bookcase. The music choice was great. The drinks were decent, although they could have been better. I ordered the Old Fashioned. However, I did notice that the bartenders seemed a bit unhappy and not very friendly during my visit.

Such a cool place to grab a drink. Easy to have conversations with your group and even meet some other friendly people there The bartenders know what theyโ€™re doing and make some pretty fun drinks. Iโ€™ve been a few times and plan on going back again.

One of Austin, Texas hidden treasures. If your lucky Paul will take care of your specialty drinks.. In my opinion one of the best mixologists in town.

Bartender made fantastic drinks: Vieux Carre, Sazerac, and Boulevardier. Watch the Google maps to see when it's not so busy. 8pm was a sweet spot on a Wed. Started to get busier later. And it was just fun to open the bookcase to gain entrance to the bar.

Lobby attendant was incredibly rude to 2 different people in our group at separate times. She shook her head at me as soon as we walked into the establishment. Was short with us and when my friend asked for directions to CVS after having been a patron at the speakeasy bar which is a part of the hostel, she said โ€œdonโ€™t you have google?โ€. I cannot believe someone can be this rude. She was rude to non guests of this hostel. We had drinks at the bar which was very cool, but the woman managing the lobby of the hostel was terrible. Do not go there and expect to receive civil treatment or good service.

Categorized as a speakeasy, it's sort of hard to miss because this is an obvious hot spot. A friend who used to play here invited us. It's got a cool entrance, having to go behind a book case. There are some signature drinks and a stage. When there's a crowd there's minimal space but very high energy.

Great traditional speakeasy in downtown Austin. You inner by sliding a bookcase in the hotel lobby. Excellent drinks friendly service. Definitely worth a stop on any trip to Austin

I've been here twice, the first time it was quiet and had very much a speakeasy vibe the second was completely the opposite. Good drinks. Not my all time favorite but still very good.

We tried to get into the Elephant bar but was too crowded so we ended up here. Entry way was cool. The band was a rap/jazz fusion. They sounded decent until the singer went freestyle. Became this wretched loud noise. Bartenders were cool. Enjoyed the drinks and just chilling at the bar. Drinks were reasonably priced. Cool place!

Never thought I would visit a low key spot that is actually a real nice speakeasy. Enjoy the intimate dark setting. Even a nice stage for performances.

I had a great experience staying here for a night. The staff was friendly and helpful. The female showers and mixed sinks were clean and in good condition. The mattress in the 8 mixed dorm was comfy enough to have a good night sleep. So I recommend it and will stay again if I need to.

This place is interesting because it can or cannot have a good speak easy feel. Sometimes itโ€™s laid back music with a romantic jazz ambiance that is an amazing for a date or low key cocktails with friends.

Firehouse Lounge is a fun secret bar in Austin although based on the number of people inside, it's not so secret anymore. Great place to grab some drinks and hang with your friends. Sometimes it is a bit hard to find a table but remember there are some spots by the exit. If you haven't been, go check it out.

My first time at a hostel. Enjoyed my stay and met some interesting people at the common kitchen area. Chose the female dorm room option, which made me feel comfortable. Located at a busy and happening place in Austin so it was fairly convenient for me (Also be aware that it won't be super quiet at night). Basic amenities were available.

Love this place. Went on a Wednesday. They had seating at the bar which made it super hard to get thru to order a drink but otherwise the vibe was awesome.

Perfect pregame spot for Paramount shows. High quality pours from tenders who know their stuff, with just a dash of dive bar charm. Tucked into the Firehouse Hostel, inside the lobby behind the sliding bookcase.
