This isn’t your typical grill. The Moonshine Grill has such a fun menu with items I haven’t seen at many other places. The most unique of which is the fried green tomatoes with smoked shrimp — delicious, tasty, crunchy, smoky, and fresh somehow! So cool. I also loved my dinner, which was recommended to me by the incredible waitress — I had the Seared Rainbow Trout. The taste of the fish and the buttery grits complemented each other perfectly. Don’t fill up on the popcorn because the whole dinner is delicious!

This was my first visit and it was amazing. I brought my kids and I was worried it would be a long wait or that they wouldn’t have food that was kid friendly but we were seated sooner than expected and their kid’s menu had all the options we would need. As a server, Riley, made the whole experience wonderful for our table. He was professional, accommodating, and kind. I wanted give him a shout out. Everyone was happy with their meal. It was all incredible. There is something for everyone. We ate outside and I really liked the atmosphere. Thank you all for your hardwork, the food, and service!

Our waiter Chris was amazing. Walking into this establishment and the atmosphere was amazing as well as esthetics, Our waiter welcomed us with his Positive energy Also answering all of our questions. I started off with the honey hot wings that had the little spice with some sweet at the end, My baked Mac and cheese had so many flavor Combination that really Enjoyable on many levels. My Salisbury steak was tender packed with flavor and complimented well with the match potatoes. The peach cobbler threw me off a little bit as I was thinking it would be more of a pie but still it was wonderful layered with granola also thick slices of peach, Definitely money well spent at this restaurant.

We finally had the opportunity to stop by. The last time we were in Austin, we tried to stop by for the Sunday brunch but the line was too long and we had other plans. We weren't able to partake in the Sunday brunch on this visit either, but we did have the opportunity to have dinner. As always, it was super crowded, but we only had a 30-minute wait. Once we did get seated, everything was smooth sailing from there. Our waitress Brooke was absolutely wonderful. She made some great recommendations and was very attentive. She definitely made our visit a pleasant experience. We actually had two visits, one for lunch and one for dinner. I was not present for lunch but was for dinner. During lunch, my family had the chicken fried steak, shrimp & grits, crab cake, chicken & waffles, wings, and some beverages. For dinner, we had wings, crab cake, chicken & waffles, beverages, and took an order of bread pudding with us. Everything was delicious. Looking forward to trying the brunch one day. Cheers!

Came here and it was kinda packed so we left and came back the next day on the early side and was PLEASED they had a Sunday brunch menu!!! I was sad I didn’t get the dinner next time I will though!! But the brunch was nice!!! I started off with a water and lemon… and hell it’s TEXAS so I had to get a few beers as well… so let me ramble off everything I had.. I started off with the popcorn they bring you then ordered some fried green tomatoes and they was DIFFERENT look y’all they had a shrimp salsa type of deal on top of and oh man that shh was GREAT like I ordered more GREAT!! Then and the toasted bread with the smoked garlic cloves and that sauce mixed with the garlic on that bread!!! Super good then I ordered the chicken and waffles 🤷🏽‍♂️🤷🏽‍♂️😁😁 why not??!! The waffle was light and airy really good flavor without the syrup and the chicken was fried nice and crispy it was so good and I got some deviled eggs to share with my girlfriend… those?!🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️ super trash like nasty don’t know who told them that recipe was good but it was to much tartness and dill could of been better with sweet relish 🤷🏽‍♂️But over all this place was good my girlfriend didn’t think so and our server was being mighty rude to her say smart comments and snatching stuff out of her hands because he was frustrated… but the food was amazing I recommend this place if your ever downtown Austin Texas just stay away from that server lol

This place is poppping! Came here at 1 pm on a Thursday afternoon and there was a 45 minute wait that really was about 45 minutes. We had to wait outside and at least they serve you appetizers which is really nice. Good: First place I've been to that serves popcorn as a free starting food. It was good buttered popcorn too and I was pleasantly surprised - what a good portion size! I liked the deviled eggs too that we got as well as the corndog shrimp - super unique dish. The chicken and waffles was good as well and the waffles were amazing -cornbread waffles rock! The chicken was also really juicy and good. Bad: The shrimp and grits were a bit too salty and heavy for me. Service time is really long - they are just really busy and it's hard to flag someone down. Overall I enjoyed my time and might come back but not when the wait is that long!

We've never been to a Moonshine Grill prior to this visit and it was simply amazing. The hostess took our name down since we hadn't had a reservation and after a very short wait we were seated with water and popcorn already waiting for us. We ordered a chicken fried steak and the Buffalo chicken sandwich. Both dishes came out hot and ready to be eaten. All in all can we recommend this cute little restaurant and if we ever come across another Moonshine Grill we will gladly pay them a visit for an absolute enjoyable dining experience!

Come here, eat here, order the shrimp and grits. This is a chill spot with a great covered patio. They also have portable AC. The service is quick and friendly and the food is 10/10. When you are seated they great you with a bowl of seasoned popcorn. However don't skip on the fried shrimp corn dogs. I can't wait to eat here again with friends. The brunch menu also looks delicious!

First experience at Moonshine Grill and it was lovely. Great staff, not too long of a wait for a Sunday and the environment was very welcoming. Food wasn’t the best - it didn’t have much flavor. I liked the grits the most though. This place gets busy and it’s first-come first-serve! Big Thank you, Ashley! Great waitress. Very attentive to our table and all of the others. Sweet human.

Cool place near 6th street. The drinks were great. My wife and I ordered a chicken fried steak and the pork chop. I’ve traveled Texas looking for great chicken fried steaks and this was easily one of the worst I’ve had. The gravy was very bland which coated the entire steak which was also bland by itself. All of it could have used seasoning. I over heard the waitress mention that this was one of their most popular items on the menu which makes me wonder if the rest of the menu is any good. The side of whipped potatoes were great, however. My wife’s pork chop was also bland and chewy. To give this place a fair shake, we ordered some banana pudding for dessert which was just fine. Nothing to write home about. Sadly, that meant that the best thing to hit the table all night was the complimentary popcorn. For the time we waited and amount of money we paid, I would probably not recommend this place, especially if you have any kind of time commitment.

I was really excited for the fried chicken, but it left me a little flat. Nice pieces, the batter was nice, the meat was juicy. It just needed some seasoning. A little salt would have gone a long way. The waffles were tasty.

This is a must go to place while you are visiting Austin. We called to see if reservations were acceptable and told that it is first come first serve only. Upon arrival, we were told it would be a 45 minute wait, but one of the bartenders/waiters were able to fit us in at a table in a smaller bar area downstairs. Atmosphere was nice. They cater for events that were going on in another portion of the restaurant. Food was excellent. Service was very good. My son and I had the Chicken Fried Steak and my husband had the pork chops. We all enjoyed the chips and cheese sauce as an appetizer and I went for dessert which was a decadent fudge brownie mixture. Would definitely recommend.

Best BBQ! The ribs were falling off the bone and perfectly seasoned. We got the hot honey wings as well which were amazing! The service is superb! The food was off the charts good! The only thing is that it gets busy, so prepare to wait or make a reservation.

The first at the downtown location, didnt disappointed. The roasted garlic is a messy affair, skip if you in your “nice” outfit. The green chilly soup was delicious. The pork chop was juicy and the side of grits complemented the plate and add to be enough to share one dinner plate between two of us. Parking was easy to find this foggy night, but the parking garage within the walking distance, when its more busy.

This restaurant has an enjoyable outside eating area. It is covered with good lighting and atmosphere for those who enjoy outdoor patio eating. The food was good, we tried the place based on the southern menu selections and excited to try it out. I had the chicken fried steak, it was very good. A great crust, flavor and tender steak. I enjoyed the kick of heat from the Chipotle gravy, which just added to the overall flavor. And the mashed potato also good. Initially, the first biscuit order came to the table cold, once we shared with our waiter this was quickly resolved. The next arrival the biscuits were hot and fresh. The biscuit is okay, a little more dense for my liking. And my friends shared their selections was a good choice. Really good service as well.

Moonshine served is pretty potent. Atmosphere and decor is very inviting. The appetizers were definitely better than the food. Best Fried Calamari I have ever had from anywhere. I had the porkchop, it was a bit on the dry side. American Cuisine reaching the point but, not quite. Waitress was highly attentive despite how busy it was. Probably go again if invited, but not of my own accord.

Sitting in one of Austin's oldest homes, built in 1852, the beautiful limestone glows with a welcoming light as you enter. Downstairs is a private speakeasy available by reservation that can handle 10 to 15 people. Ask about sitting in the Sunday house for the perfect romantic dinner. By the way, you can order from the full menu at the bar. My Venison Salisbury steak over mashed potatoes was prepared excellently, tender and juicy meat with mushroom reduction gravy. Try the Banana cream pie served in a mason jar, set perfectly with ripened banana and creme whipped so smooth there was not a hint of granular sugar. It crossed the tongue like a smooth rich mouse. It was topped with a homemade butterscotch sauce hinting of that lovely smokey taste of a well prepared butterscotch.

Moonshine Grill was absolutely delicious. We got the Roasted Garlic Bulbs, Centre Cut Pork Chop and the New York Strip. The Garlic Bulbs were good but unnecessary for just the two of us as we were so full for dinner plus you are constantly smelling like Garlic for the days following. I had the steak and it was amazing, could have maybe used a bit more seasoning on the mash. I got a side of fries with the steak instead of the brussell sprouts and they were cooked to perfection! My husband got the pork and I heard no complaints.

Initially went in to try their Blackened Catfish, but I don’t like grits or crawfish or Brussels sprouts. Which this dish included. So I opted out for their New York Strip. One Word! Yummy. Cooked medium well and it was delicious. I’m not a fan of mashed potatoes, but the Yukon mashed potatoes were good! Daughter got Pork chop and hubby got the Chicken sandwich. They were very pleased w/their choices. Our waiter (He) was attentive and great! Wait time was 35 minutes, so we sat in the patio instead, because their was no wait. For obvious reasons the temperature was 103 outside. However they had swamp cooler’s throughout to keep the temperature comfortable. Overall ambiance is really great. I noticed a few Bar areas and maybe a party room to reserve out as well. There is a parking lot next door, that you need to pay for. That was the only downside.

Co-workers and I wanted to grab some food and drinks before the GalaxyCon. We got here, waited like 19 minutes until it opened at 10:00. Worth the wait. Excellent service and waitstaff. Food was amazing. And the drinks were spot on. The popcorn was surprisingly good haha. I highly recommend this place.

Food is amazing, atmosphere depends on your taste, it can get a bit loud and crowded, but the space itself looks great. Example of the food: This hanger steak, followed by the NY strip and bread pudding. The hanger steak is deceptively tasty and has turned me onto the fact that hanger steak may in fact be THE best cut. Also, the mashed potatoes and veggies here are phenomenal , they have some kind of caramelized bacon or something in them thats just bursts in your mouth with flavor.

  • 5/5 Emil M. 5 months ago on Google
Yes yes yes. I got the chicken and waffles and swapped out the chicken for their Hoss Hot chicken, so good. I also recommend the moonshine flight. Always remember that your first sip needs to be small. This will allow your tastebuds to stand to attention for the amazing flavors to follow. Don’t forget for dessert pair banana cream moonshine with bread pudding.
