One thing about me, I love authentic food!!! And this Indian cuisine joint is everything. If you haven’t been, goooooo. Like right now, go. The food here is so delicious. I’ve been several times and each time I need a wheelchair to get me out of here. The food is seasoned very well. And the portions are plentiful. The waitress on the other hand, was a bit snobby. But I’ll just chalk that up as she was having a bad day. The food was so good, I will not penalize the establishment for her lack of great attitude. Anyways, check them out!

It is one of the best places we have ever eaten. Tried multiple dishes sharing with people. Would have liked some more goat in the goat curry dish, but the flavor was great. If you need mild, just ask, and they respect that. The Nan was pretty good. One of our favorites was the new dish peppered chicken.

Nice selection of Indian food, they also have lunch specials. Most of the dishes have options to what level of spice before the dish is served. Service was excellent and helpful. Place was very clean and has a nice relaxing decor. Flavors in all the foods were very good. Enjoy dinning here and will be back for sure.

I liked the food and the ambience. Very rustic. The tandoori were good, but they took long. The servers were nice and considerate but somehow the food took very long. Not the most authentic Indian food, the naan bread was very doughy and not fluffy enough, but it gets the job done. Very good price for the amount of food we had! If you’re not looking for authentic Indian food specifically, this place will do for you!

This is a cute spot boasting delectable food and a charming ambiance. Our standout appetizer was the crispy Brussels, which resembled Brussels Pakoras, accompanied by a tantalizing chili tamarind chutney that was simply amazing. It struck the perfect balance of flavors. For our main courses, we savored the butter chicken with garlic naan, a rich and tangy delight. However, the achari chicken left us a tad underwhelmed compared to the other two dishes. The flexibility to customize the spice level to your preference is a thoughtful touch. I strongly recommend making a reservation here. As for parking, it can be a bit challenging to find, but there are paid parking garages nearby. Overall, our experience at this establishment was good. The service was impeccable, and our server took excellent care of us. I would certainly return to try more of their offerings!

Ate here last sunday for lunch. Service was decent. Food was great and was at the right temperature. Was originally sat at a table on the side that was cold/windy. probably from a vent above but they had no issue with us moving to a different table.

Brussel sprouts and chutneys were serviceable, veggie somasa was flat and flavorless. All of our mains were off: Chana masala was weird tasting, missing the sourness and more like chunky gravy. Lamb Saag and Achari Curry both tasted like the chef threw a couple of ingredients in the blender, added the meat, and threw it in the microwave. Both were totally flavorless. Naan was too salty and had consistency closer to pizza crust. Service and atmosphere were fine, but no where close to making up for this atrocity of a meal. Luckily we were able to find another restaurant nearby and leave this disaster of a restaurant behind.

Excellent meal! I am not experienced with Indian food, probably my 3-4 times trying. This was delicious! Fresh ingredients, spicy hot for me - outstanding heat! Beautiful restaurant and staff.

What happened to Clay Pit?!?! Came here about 10 years ago and it was upscale, cozy, welcoming and vibrant. Now it's plastic menus, Austin "ghost tour" groups interrupting dinner and mediocre food. A pale shadow of its former self.

The staff were very accommodating. We showed up on a weekday with no reservation for lunchtime and were seated right away, even though the place was busy. After our meal, we asked if we could sit at the (empty) bar for a while and have a drink. Again, we were accommodated elegantly. My food (a lunch hour special bowl) was visually beautiful. The server asked how hot I liked my food, and it was perfectly suited to my taste. The dining rooms can get very noisy during busy hours.

Great date night ambiance. We sat at the bar since we didn’t have reservations (wait was long for a table without them) and ordered appetizers, which went great! I am lactose intolerant and I was symptom free with their vegan appetizers, so that was great. This time we had these vegan appetizers: vegetable samos, batata cham, madras soup, vegetable pakoras, curried hummus with roti. Their hummus is some of the best hummus I’ve had. It has a certain flavor and thickness that makes it really good (not sure what the flavor is, extra chickpeas?). The spices in the hummus really make it extra. Monica loved the samosas, and we both loved dipping them in the madras soup. It was nice they were able to bring us separate bowls for the soup. This was our favorite combo. The chutneys were interesting too. I wonder if they put sugar in their tamarind chutney? The pakoras were our least favorite. They taste bland and were soft. Monica didnt love the crunchiness level.

Beautiful historic building with an atmosphere like a calming oasis. The staff are friendly and the service is attentive. I was wowed by the beautiful presentation of the food and delicious tasting spices. Great spot for gatherings, couples, family and friends. The dress code is casual to business casual. Highly recommend.

We love Indian Cuisine and enjoy trying different places. The restaurant was pretty spacious with a lot of seating. The service was quick and the food was fresh and full of flavor. We tried various dishes and enjoyed them all. The samosas were very tasty. The garlic Naan was also delightful. We will certainly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great meal.

Loved this place! The food was really good, I got the paneer butter masala with naan and rice my friend got the butter chicken and wings and we shared the samosa chat. I can say that the vibe here was really good, and the food was good considering I’m really picky, not too sure what they did to the rice but I loved it! Not too loud, but food began coming out 20 minutes after ordering, and that was the starters. Followed 3-5 minutes later by the entrees, I would have loved for the starters to come out earlier so that I would’ve had a good amount of time between the starters and entree so that when the entree does come out In not still eating my starter. Other than that, I’ve gotta say that this place was a hit!

Food was delicious. Quality and quantity was good, with a decent ambience and decent pricing! We got the kofta korma and the Ayam curry - loved them both. The dahi puri was good too. Their bathroom was NASTY like literally with soiled sanitary pads and that was the biggest put off. A restaurant should have clean and hygienic bathrooms. And hence the 4 stars!

I've been going here off and on for years. The restaurant has gone through a few changes, but the food quality has never suffered. I feel the food is more like Indian fusion rather than true Indian food. I have several Indian friends, and they tell me as well that the food is not true Indian but is indeed some of the best Indian inspired food they've ever had. This evening I've had papadum, naan, and a main course called khuroos e tursh. It's chicken with a spinach stuffing covered in an amazing cashew based sauce.

It is one of the best restaurants in austin downtown to enjoy indian food but with a slight twist. The food service was good and fast. We ordered chicken tikka masala lunch bowl with garlic naan. The ambience is great and unique too. Its a must visit for people who love spicy food.

Honestly we were happily surprised to get good Indian food in downtown Austin area. The samosas were crisp and tasty. The plain Naan was a little thick to our liking but no complaints there. The Chole Saag tasted amazing. The one downside that I saw was the service. The server who attended the table was always in a hurry. I wish she slows down a little bit and pays attention to what customers are ordering and requesting. Another downer was the straw they gave with mango lassi - Bad Design.

As much as we wanted to have nice warm food we were disappointed absolutely disappointed. The service was poor it took so long for food to come out and then is was cold. In addition the naan and the roti was half cooked. Hence money down the drain. We hardly even ate as the food was cold.

Good Indian food. Lot of space inside. Outside sitting also available. Drinks are also available. Good service, courteous staff, clean environment. Public parking nearby. Advance booking should be done before visiting otherwise one need to wait.

There were two restaurant receptionists stationed at the counter. But, it took a few minutes before someone else came to lead us to our seats. Then, our waiter finally came to serve us. Due to these observations, I think the restaurant might be understaffed. The goat saag was great. It was seasoned so well that every bite, even after the food cooled down, fills your mouth with the aromatic spices. The only complaint I have is that there were some tiny pieces of bone and bone with meat on in the goat saag (which was not noted on the menu). The Garlic and Basil Naan accompanied the saag very well. It was so soft and warm. The mixed grill was a great platter to sample the chicken tikedar, malai kebob and boti kebob. Our favorite was the Boti Kebob. Most likely because it was a dry rub and contains the most spices.

If you're in search of a truly unique and flavorful Indian dining experience, look no further. This restaurant's Tandoori Broccoli and Dahi Puri will transport your taste buds to new heights, while the Nariyal Chicken Curry will leave you craving for more. With its impeccable flavors, attentive service, and inviting ambiance, this establishment has earned its rightful place among the best Indian cuisine offerings in town.

Overall great experience, cellar was so cute and a great environment to eat in. The food was delicious. The waiter seemed a little overstretched, he forgot our naan and when it came out was underdone. He also didn’t ask about spice level so that was a little bit of a bummer but otherwise very good. Drinks were amazing. Get the gin and tonic!

The lobby was very welcoming and service was amazing from the start! The man at the front desk had such a warm smile and high spirited. We ordered some cocktails to start and I HAVE to recommend the Karmic Buzz. It is served with a flower you eat before drinking and it numbs your mouth! Drinking it felt like pops rocks and it was such an exciting experience! The dinner itself was a 10/10 with well rounded flavor and perfectly cooked meats. Everything has succeeded our expectations and we'll need this as our go to place for Indian eats!

Came to this amazing building in the middle of downtown by accident. The staff and bartender were amazing and very friendly. The infused vodka was awesome. I got some amazing deals on lamb pizza and calamari with happy hour. Now I understand I was at the restaurant during a down at 4pm and it was restaurant downtime, but this manager getting drunk with a wine rep really put a damper on my afternoon. Just the way he talked to her and acted was uncalled for and I feel bad for his employees that need to deal with him. He was very loud for being across the table from her and talking with I snoody tone of entitlement. Lose the manager, keep the staff, food was amazing!

We had a very nice dinner at Clay Pit, unfortunately I cannot remember the names of the Curry dishes and the Chicken dish- however the meal was very filling and flavorful. Clay Pit was flexible to everyone’s spice level and we all enjoyed our dishes. Recommend to anyone who wants really flavorful Indian food. Feel free to let me know if you can identify the unknown dishes.

This is our favorite Indian restaurant in Austin. The food is delicious and never disappoints. Our only issue is that there are often quite long wait times for take-out. Sometimes I have arrived to pick up my food at the specified time and then had to wait 15-30 more minutes. Despite this, we still continue to come back here because we love the food so much.
