So we came here after seeing a movie next door. The place was pretty empty so we were thinking the food would be hot, fresh and good. Nope, not at all. The greens were crunchy! We got the award winning fries and I'm not sure what award they won in the past but they were trash. Cold and tasted old. The shrimp and grits and were also not good. The grits were probably from way earlier in the day or the day before. Definitely would not recommend this place at all. Save your money folks, I felt like I got robbed for $80. The service was good though.

Loved this place amazing good quality food. Environment is really nice and diner like. The options are sweet and simple but all dishes are impressive. Loved their fries!

Ate lunch on a weekday. Service was great and seating was very available. The Mahi Mahi tacos were very good. The Pastrami Rueben was a little tough and salty. Both meals were good enough to return again another time.

Everything was delicious as always. Very friendly staff. I got the salmon with cheese grits and grilled Broccoli, and my sister got the meatloaf with greens and mashed potatoes. Yummo!!

We decided to try this place out based on the good reviews which is why I'm leaving a review when I usually don't. Seating was slow and food was mediocre. Our server Riley did a great job given that he appeared to be the only server working or at least had the whole section to himself. He was quick to refill drinks without asking. Chicken fried steak was tough and gravy was cold and already starting to congeal by the time it got to the table. Fries, mac and cheese, chicken waffles were okay but nothing special. Mashed potatoes were good and the only item I'd order again. Based solely on food this would be a 2 star review but the great service despite obviously being short staffed earned an additional star.

I enjoy the Baruch chicken and waffles so delish the chicken was a bit over cooked this time. We really enjoy the frie basket prior to our meals always get that as our starter.

I’ve been going to Hyde Park Bar & Grill for probably a decade. I was introduced to it by friends years ago – the original Duval location – and when I found out that Westgate (Ben White Blvd) had a location, I started going there, also. Hyde Park’s food has been good. Their meat loaf is excellent. Their lentil soup is worth getting at least a cup of, if not a bowl. Their chicken-fried chicken with their gravy is delicious. And their Hyde Park Fries should be ordered at least once. Usually the personal service at Hyde Park is good, too, but I had a split experience on my most recent visit in early May. My waiter wasn’t terribly friendly and seemed like he was on auto-pilot. He was slow to bring parts of my order and refill my drink, and when he said “Sorry it was slow,” (which he said at least twice) it was as if he was using the minimum amount of energy to do it. I thought to ask him if he was from New York City, but that would have been unfair to New Yorkers. Another waiter actually brought my main course over, and he was decidedly friendlier. I wanted to thank and compliment him before I left, but he had disappeared by that point. So, guy with the tied-back hair and facial growth, if you happen to read this, you were really groovy! I get that we’re still in a pandemic and lots of us are tired, frustrated, even fearful. But places need to remember that customers feel some of the same things, and we come to your places of business to get a break from whatever’s inside our heads. If we get a waiter who’s just phoning it in, we’ll remember. Next visit to Austin I’ll be doing the Duval location once again, as I had a great experience there previously. I hope the Westgate location takes a look at this. Maybe it’s just one bad apple.

The space is casual, music not too loud, local art featured on the walls. They are def short staffed, as there was only 1 server on the floor. Our server Shawn (sp?) was quirky and upbeat. We ordered the fried avocado appetizer, which was good but not much seasoning in the breading really, it was definitely better with the slightly spicy sauce it came with. We also got the Hyde park fries large portion and he warned us that it was enough for 5-8 people. He was right about that! Lol We did see a small order which would have been a better choice for our table of 3. My guy ordered the chicken fried steak with mac and cheese and mashed potatoes, and I ordered the chicken fried chicken with green beans and mashed potatoes, my son had the meatloaf with the grits and mashed potatoes. The appetizers took a while to come out, then our entrees came about 5 minutes later. They accidentally gave my guy chicken, and the server noticed that when he got to the table so he gave him the plate anyway and said he'd get him the steak, we all finished eating by the time the CFS was done so we just had that boxed up to go. They did take the CFS off our bill without being asked to do so. The fried chicken was good, we haven't tasted the CFS yet, the green beans were fresh, young and tender but lacked seasoning. The mac n cheese was good but not spectacular. The meatloaf was a thick dense meatloaf that had good flavor and topped with French fried onions. The grits were okay but not great. We had the peach pudding dessert and oh my goodness! It's awesome! It's like if you had a pineapple upside down cake but substitute peaches and a tres leches mixed together you'd have this! Divine! The downside was definitely the cleanliness of this place. There was trash and food on the floors, tables were left dirty for quite some time and bussed very slowly, and as a server myself, I would have more pride in the dining room cleanliness and bust my tush to try to keep it cleaner. You have to wonder, if they let guests see this uncleanness upfront, how clean is it in the back, where we can't see?

Waitstaff were wonderful, knowledgeable, attentive and prompt with bringing our food and quick to clean up. The bus boy who cleans the table seems to be very passionate about keeping the tables clean. I'm here for it, great enthusiasm and nice not to have dirty plates in your face as you're trying to have conversation with friends. The decor is outdated and you can tell at one point it was a hip Hotspot but not anymore - the Westgate location is a big place and nice big bar. Definitely not a fancy place, seems to be more family friendly and old people friendly. I definitely wouldn't take a hot date here if you're trying to make an impression but I would come if you're in a established relationship and want a nice date night out. I only had the dumplings and they were good but I should have taken the waitresses rec of getting them crispy, as a matter of fact they actually said when I ordered them off the menu as they were, she stated: "Are you sure you don't want them crispy"? I know this sounds cryptically critical of the place but I do like this little spot, not the best neighborhood but still a nice relaxed place to eat. I will be back if I don't forget it's there.

The food is good. Great for a brunch. Service could use some help but not a deal breaker.

Had the chicken fried steak. The coating fell off and needs to be more crispy. (The coating they use at Jim's and Cheddar's is excellent.) The sides were great. They need to serve some sort of bread with their meals like many other restaurants. But overall, enjoyed the meal very much.

I’m always happy when I get a chance to visit Hyde Park Grill when I’m back in Austin, but this was a different experience. Our sister passed away here on Sat., and after many days of not leaving her side, we drove over to HPG to get a warm meal. When we got there, there was a 20-30 min wait. I mentioned that the hostess, Ruby, what we’d just been through, and asked if there was any way we could just sit down anywhere sooner, that we’d be grateful. Well, she kindly spoke to the next customer, who gave up their place for us. It was a small gesture, but meant so much to us on the worst possible day. Thank you Ruby! (Also, the Chicken Fried Chicken was as perfect as ever.)

Some things here are better than others, and those things are some of the Best of Austin: the Hyde Park batter coated French fries, their weekend brunch fried chicken and buttermilk waffles, their hibiscus mint iced tea, and their legendary Wom Kim Pudding desert — which is essentially like the most luxurious caramelized peaches upside down buttermilk cake served drizzled in warm sweet cream. Wow wow wow wow wow. That dessert following those fries could cheer up almost anyone out of whatever doldrums they might be in. Their grilled chicken with bacon sandwich is a pretty decent option as well.

The food was great, but the service seemed a little all over the place. We came here for a birthday dinner with my parents and were really excited to try this place out! I'd love to come back, but the area where we were seated felt very dirty and I felt like I didn't want to touch anything. It looked almost like food was flung and never cleaned off ALL the window blinds & the seats were falling apart. Maybe that part of the "charm" but visibly seeing food and stains all over the place is the reason why I'm giving 4 stars.

My meal is awful. Fried chicken burger dry as a bone with all breading crumbling off. The mac and cheese is beyond terrible. Restaurant smells quite unpleasant also - somewhat like a slight whiff of rotten fish. Anyway, my lunch is ruined and I’m going to eat elsewhere as I don’t want to spend a moment longer in this place. Gets a second star as no problem with staff who have been good.

Staff was great, albeit overwhelmed as they were probably short staffed. The food was ok, not much flavor in the red fish. Grits were good. Fried avocado was just that, fried avocado. They could make it better by adding some flavor to it. French frys were good and apparently a staple. Cocktails were alright. They were very accommodating for our large group, but I was not impressed with the food taste. Great food selection though.

The fare is fair. The staff does justice for the mealready. The ambiance suits a family style diner with options for a Sunday brunch fit for the morning after. You cant go wrong with Hyde Park.

The food was fantastic. The prices are reasonable and portion size is appropriate. Pancakes, scrambled eggs, and bacon was great! Pancakes were fluffy and had flavor. The eggs were also fluffy and delicious. The chicken and Belgian waffle was very savory. The chicken was breaded and cooked perfectly. It was juicy. I would have preferred the chicken to be a thicker cut instead of the hammered thin piece, but it was as i said, cooked well and juicy. The waffle was absolutely perfect. Crunch outside, very soft inside. Overall we left happy and contented.

5 star service. Chicken for the chicken and waffles was amazing. The waffle was a bit too light for my taste. The food was delayed ever so slightly coming out, and we were given complementary French fires. The fries and spicy sauce were also delicious. Great customer service again from the establishment.
