We had a very good experience at Trudy's. There was plenty of parking, no wait, and our waitress, Zoe, was great. It was her first day and I never would have guessed. I'm really picky about salsa and the salsa here was really good, flavor and spice-wise. The Longhorn Tacos were unique and delicious. Husband had the combo plate and also really enjoyed it. Mexican Martini was tasty as usual. The South Star location was spacious and had a nice atmosphere.

Went to dinner with a large party which normally lowers the rating because restaurants can't handle it. But for our group it seemed like all hands on deck and drinks came out quickly, chips and queso came out quickly and drinks from the bar came out quickly. Service and food quality were excellent. Definitely a different take on some of my favorite Tex-Mex dishes but I welcome their version of it. Would recommend it.

Trudy’s is back! We have been eating at various locations for 30 years but took a break when quality was down. But today’s 2022 visit was amazing. Awesome salsa. We could switch out sauce like the old days. Everyone was friendly. The new strawberry cucumber margarita is a must drink. Hooray! A little old Austin still remains!

First time here. We got there about an hour before closing but they were still happy to have us. The service was great and so was the food. We will be going back!

Made a trip in a few weeks ago and was blown away with the fajitas. (Used to be horrible) Since then we placed 2 back 2 back to go orders and the food has been phenomenal delivered. Very pleased with the food quality, we hope this location stays a float and people start to realize the new chefs in town 🤙🏽

The bartender was super nice and had a great attitude. My tacos were extremely watery, my rice was cold, and my meal was made in under 5 mins…which should have been the red flag. Ummm yeah, I just wouldn’t come back here to eat.

Friendly service. Nice vibe with beautiful wooden tables. The chipotle brisket enchiladas were fabulous! The margarita was the cherry on the perfect meal.

Stopped in for an early Saturday dinner and I almost wish we went somewhere else. The Loaded Queso that we started with was pretty delicious and came with a basket of chips that were thankfully a good balance of fresh, crispy and not too oily. The main course of the Trudy’s Famous Stuffed Avocado was fairly tasty, but was overpowered by its spice level. The dish as a whole wound up being excessively spicy, namely the Suiza sauce, which impacted the taste of the sides of rice and cheesy mashed potatoes too. Had the sauce been closer to what I’ve had in the past, the dish would’ve been pretty good. Unfortunately, that was not the case this time. Overall, the food was still ok, but the experience as a whole was disappointing relative to the standards we’ve come to expect from Trudy’s.

The good: drinks. Generous portions, excellent value for money. The bad: service. Apathy is conflated here with sympathy. For example, why did my friend ask for olives 3 times before getting it? The ugly: food. I mean, flavor is just about fine, but given it's Austin, you'd expect much better quality, presentation, and overall culinary experience. At least it's not pricey, and portions are very large. Bottom line: don't expect much coming here, other than simple satiation.

The food and atmosphere was great! We had a large party of 10. We ordered queso and stuffed avocados for appetizers and they were delicious! For dinner I had the fish tacos and they tasted amazing. I had a frozen mango margarita and it was a little too strong for my taste but to each their own. The service was a little rough but we did have a large table and one of the cooks came out to correct a mistake, which we appreciated.

The only downsides were the uncomfortable all-metal-no-cushion chairs on the patio and a couple of minor issues with service from an otherwise very friendly and competent server. Everything else was a + or a ++: Service, as I mentioned, was overall excellent. The chips were crispy and still warm from being made. The salsas were delicious and the right amount of caliente. I chose corn tortillas with my meal and they were freshly made (and warm). I had the brisket migas — delicious and accompanied by refried black beans with a sprinkling of cotija cheese and a serving of Spanish rice…the whole grain kind and not the cheap stuff that looks like it’s been squeezed through a Play-Doh press. Check out Trudy’s—worth it.

They're usually pretty busy when we come so we always try to keep longer wait times into consideration. The waiters/staff were friendly but it did take quite a while to get our drinks (just water) and orders taken (probably due to low staff that day). The quesadilla was the best! I would stay away from the ceviche if you are expecting the Mexican style, it tastes a bit too sweet here. Another thing we weren't a big fan of was the stuffed chicken, I'll edit this post with the name of it once I find it (edit: it was the chorizo stuffed chicken).

My first time here. Chips were thin and crispy but bland and not warm. 2 salsas came with them which was nice. Tortillas were warm but tasted store bought. Rice was too salty to eat. The meats and beans were just OK. The guacamole was very bland. I was there in the afternoon. Only customer in the place. Dirty dishes sat on empty tables. Tea was watered down and waitress showed less personality than the little Robots some restaurants are now using. I see no reason to return.

I got the chicken flaunts and they were pretty dang good! I loved the Mexican corn I subbed instead of beans. I would have liked the flauntas to be a little less crispy but it was still very good. Also their Mexican martinis hit! 💯👌

This is the best Tex Amex I’ve had in all my years living in Texas! The atmosphere was so wonderful! There was music playing, TVs playing football games, James was our server and he was the most upstanding! His menu recommendations were on point and his tentativeness was everything. The food was also really great, to any guacamole lovers I definitely recommend getting it as an appetizer the price was great, the portion was big and the it was very fresh! We really enjoyed ourselves here and will be returning frequently!
