Excellent friend chicken joint in downtown Austin. The food was great! Service was even better and everything came out fast and hot. Large inside area so they can fit parties. They have a bar with canned beer. Can't wait to go back!

Went near downtown and found this hidden gem. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. It was a hot day and asked for a pitcher of water and she didn't disappoint with a pitcher and constant refill. We ordered the family 16pc with Mac n cheese, fries and slaw. Perfectly cooked chicken, juicy and flavorful. All the sides were great and with a fun atmosphere made this a pleasant chicken fry evening. We will definitely be back!

By far the best fried pickle spears I have ever eaten! Love that there is a souvenir cup option. My boyfriend got the fried okra and let me try some - it was very good too! Google the history on the restaurant- it’s incredibly interesting and made me appreciate the meal even more knowing how it became famous. You definitely won’t walk away hungry after eating here! The waiter was phenomenal despite a packed house and was great at checking in on us.

I was in Austin for a conference and I was staying in a hotel right next to Gus's. This turned out to be the best decision ever. The atmosphere of this restaurant is great. It's warm and cozy, tables are a little tight, but it's also a great way to meet and talk to people around you. I ate here twice in 3 days. Now, I opened the menu and seen they had fried pickles . Great! I love fried pickles! These fried pickles spears changed my life. They are so delicious and amazing it should be a crime. I literally dream about them. The chicken....I got spicy, and it was nothing short of delectable. Hands down the best chicken I have ever ate in my life. It was so juicy, fresh, crunchy, and had just the right about of spice. Listen, just go. Get the food. You will not regret it.

Don't need to discuss much about Gus.. just get on the Bus.. an get there if you want some delicious and "spicy" fried chicken. $12 for a 3 piece dinner plate with BBQ beans and coleslaw makes Gus an affordable dining option in Austin. I did take-out which took about 20 minutes as restaurant was very packed on a Saturday night. Friendly service with a simple but tasty menu. Nice to have Gus in Austin.

Tasty chicken but slightly over burnt skin for me. The mix they use is perfect. Nice little kick but not too much. Beans are the best in Austin. Mac n cheese was good as well. I would skip the fried tomatoes and stick with the fried pickles.

Gus's does a great job frying chicken! I had the two breast meal, and the coating was thin but spicy, and the chicken was juicy and not too greasy. You have your choice of lots of sides, with baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad and french fries as your main options. The place is clean and lively, and the service was excellent. Marcum did a fabulous job taking care of our table. Highly recommended, but get there early - they can get very busy!

Though the menu isn’t extensive, it doesn’t have to be when you’ve struck the perfect chord on flavor! This is some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had! Slightly spicy, yet perfectly balanced with season, this place will have you coming back for more! The Mac and cheese is so delicious! While they do carry a few other options, the chicken (we had wings and tenders) and Mac and cheese were the best! You won’t regret eating here!

Listen. I normally do pics of full plates but after visiting this place twice in the same day, it was no need. This is the best chicken I’ve ever had in my life! Cooked to order. Sides were spot on. The place is constantly packed and for good reason. I definitely will be visiting again.

One of my favorite fried chicken places of all time. Got it in Memphis, Los Angeles and now in Austin. The quality is consistent throughout. The prices are very reasonable. A plate of chicken comes with 2 sides. Their dark meat is amazing but even their white meat is juicy and that's when you know you got amazing fried chicken. The rub is a bit spicy but elevates the chicken to a higher level. For sides, the Mac and cheese, fries and fried okra are all excellent.

Totally recommend a visit here. My only regret was not having room for more food. The delicious smell lured me in. I wanted to visit in New Orleans but didn't make it. So I saw this location, walked past it, saw some sites and meandered my way back to the smell. Ordered the 2 piece snack (white chicken) witj 2 beers, the root beer was delicous. The chicken skin was flavored beautifully and it wasn't breaded, just wonderfully crispy chicken skin. The inside was moist. Just heavenly! I'm impressed because sometimes chains can loose their pizzazz as they grow but Gus' has it down! Give them a try!

Delicious and affordable fried chicken! The servers are quick and attentive. Our go to is the 3 piece dark meat, which comes with slaw and baked beans. Highly recommend trying the sides as well, we've had the fried okra and the Mac and cheese which are both great. There's usually a bit of a wait if you come during prime hours and on weekends, but honestly worth the wait. If you don't want to wait, order takeout and go eat by the river.

I am not a fried chicken connoisseur. However, this was fantastic tasting chicken. Per another review, I got the three-piece dark meat meal. Also got the chocolate chess pie which was recommended by our amazing server Natalia. Even though Google maps stated that it was "as busy as it gets", my son and I were able to walk in and grab a seat without a wait. Have to replaced our order. The food was out in less than 5 minutes. Definitely would recommend for anybody who loves fried chicken and great service.

Have done the barbecue thing in prior trips to ATX. Those experiences were great. However, made a point to visit Gus’s this time around. Fantastic experience. Food, price, aesthetic, and service. Kamber was my server and did a supreme job of getting that great fried chicken to me in a land speed record and ensured the sweet tea stayed filled. Super engaged and did an awesome job. Could not have been a better experience. 5 stars.

Went to Gus famous chicken 🐔 to try it due to its high rating of reviews. Upon arrival it was difficult to find parking. Only street parking is available. Inside of the restaurant is homey. Definitely a great family environment place. They offer different options that you may want your chicken. With sides like coleslaw, Mac n cheese 🧀 , fries 🍟, beans 🫘 etc. They also have 2 kinds of sauces in the table to add to your food at your convenience. We ordered the coconut 🥥 pie, that was delicious. If you are a pie lover definitely recommend

Excellent food and prices. Some of the best fried chicken one can eat. The chicken is marinated in cayenne and hot sauce so it has great flavor but not too spicy. Nate is a great server; good attentive service!

Soon as I walked in the door I knew I was where I wanted to be. Place was buzzin. full to the brim but we still got seated in 2 minutes. Checkered tablecloths like it's supposed to be. Cold beer and sweet tea came fast. There was 58 things on the menu that I wanted but we settled for fried okra, mac n cheese, fried green tomatoes, collard greens. And obviously the fried chicken. The chicken tasted like I always imagined good proper Southern fried chicken should. Flavour to write home about. 500 degrees and crispy, but juicy as hell inside. Each of the sides sent me to heaven in a different way but a special mention for the fried green tomatoes which I wonder how I've gone 33 years without having. Luckily my companion got full quick so I got to eat about 70% of the spread. A good day was had by all.

Personally, I was not the biggest fan of the chicken. It was flavorful, but also super greasy and a little dry. Their Mac and cheese was great and their fried pickles were just okay. We were there for about 30 minutes and the door didn’t stop opening. Very busy during peak hours.

A small restaurant with a big claim however it’s far from the best in the world but I’d say it’s value for money. I ordered the specials of 2 breasts and 2 sides for about $11. Thought that the chicken could have been marinated more and it could be more juicy and flavorful. However great value for money for a restaurant bang in downtown Austin. The restaurant was busy and getting a table was a challenge during busy times. I’d probably come again to try other versions of the fried chicken.

Great place, great taste.. easily one of the best fried chickens I have ever had.. not too spicy, just the right balance.. chicken is juicy... Sides are great as well especially fried okra and Mac n' cheese.. service is excellent and setup is cool.. Will go again (have been to their Memphis location as well, equally good and consistent quality)..

Really very tasty fried chicken. I got the three piece white meat and for white meat, it was extremely succulent and had a really good heat to it too. If you're in Austin, this place is a must visit. The servers are also a lot of fun and good for a laugh!

This was my first time with Gus's fried chicken. I ordered a 3-piece white (2 breast and wing) meal with a root beer float. The food was served fairly quickly and the server was attentive. I love how the skins were slightly darker, a good sign of marinating? And the moist and temperature were sealed under the thin and crispy skins, even through my third piece. The coleslaw was refreshing and the baked beans tasted great with a hint of spiciness. There are many ways to eat fried chickens, but you get those who know how to fry chickens - one way, San Jacinto Blvd, Austin, Texas. (I wish we have Gus's in Colorado).

It’s been a few years since I’ve eaten here and would have given 4 stars I remember it being just slightly more memorable and tasty the first time. I get the tenders with slaw and beans for $10.25 you get 4 tenders for the same price as 3! The staff are very friendly, the service is quick even when they’re busy. The chicken is spicy so if you don’t like spice this isn’t for you. I tasted the spice just remember it being more flavorful. The tenders had a crispy skin which most tenders don’t. Wanted to add a little salt to everything. The craft beer was only $5.
