This morning there was a 30 minute search for where to eat. My husband wanted biscuits and gravy and my niece wanted a mimosa. Plus it’s a Wednesday so most brunch places are not serving brunch during the week. We found Counter Cafe and headed over. I wasn’t sure from the outside but the inside is good. The menu is fabulous with locally sourced items. My husband ordered biscuits and gravy and 2 eggs (comes with biscuit and choice of meat) he ordered sausage and a side of potatoes. Our nieces had mimosas. One niece ordered the 2 eggs with a biscuit and bacon. She said her bacon was perfect. My other niece and I ordered the tacos and they were amazing! She ate her one taco and ordered another. I also ordered a side of artisan cheese grits and a biscuit. The biscuit looked hard but it was not and had a fabulous flavor. The grits had cheese and jalapeño, they were fabulous. Our server was amazing and I definitely recommend if you are in the area.

EDIT : second time at counter cafe and it is truly to die for. The joes special is my favorite item on the menu. Everything is super flavorful and comes out quick. The hotcake is the best pancake I’ve ever had in my life. Staff is super friendly and attentive. You definitely need to come here if you are in Austin!

Local cafe serving breakfast and lunch. Open kitchen, so if you sit at the counter you can watch them whip up your food! The service is usually pretty quick and the food is consistent. I personally like the biscuits and gravy, and enjoy their Bloody Mary. They only offer drip coffee and the sugar never pours out of the dispenser (I typically unscrew the lid to scoop it out). If they offered espresso drinks I would enjoy breakfast much more. Their fresh squeezed orange juice is insanely refreshing and is the main reason my husband votes to eat there.

First time eating here! I ordered the French Toast Special with a chocolate almond milk. Nice portion and I was full after haha. My friend ordered steak and eggs!

The hot cakes and eggs Benedict were very good. Very disappointed with the biscuits and gravy. No flavor and biscuit was under cooked. It was extremely hot in the restaurant and the seats were uncomfortable and at a bar but we waited 40 min already for a table so we sat there. The server was awesome but the gentleman in the front taking the reservations was a bit short with everyone. There is no where to wait indoors for a table and it was almost 100 degrees outside. Overall I expected more with all the rave reviews.

NOT A GOOD PLACE FOR VEGETARIANS. Good service, okay coffee, bad food. Barely any vegetarian options and no vegan options. This sandwich felt like my only choice. It was one of their lunch specials. Very disappointing. Dry, gross bread. Smeared with flavorless tomato sauce, mushy, unseasoned vegetables, and some ricotta. Even the fries are limp and unappetizing.

Super cool local breakfast place. Had the crab cake eggs benedict, was super good. Great service and an all around fun place to be.

Love this local spot for casual breakfast. Feels homey and the staff is always so friendly. Instantly take visitors here for great atmosphere and food. The biscuits and gravy and the blueberry pancake are always a highlight for me, can’t go and not get them.

Everything was delicious, our waiter was very attentive and it’s a very cute environment. The only complaint I have is how long we waited for our food. Otherwise everything was great. I got the honey butter chicken biscuit which was very fresh, kinda a chicken fried steak consistency so very crunchy and add some honey to it & it’s top notch! The other plate is the French toast special. it’s THE BEST FRENCH TOAST IVE EVER HAD.

great food but couldn’t say the same for the service. Waiter hardly ever checked in, I’d try and catch her attention whenever I ran out of a drink and it almost seemed like she was ignoring me! Also had a rank attitude, the faces she made while I ordered or asked for water wasn’t necessary. Messed up my order too, I have a tomato allergy and asked for no tomatoes. Guess what I found in my sandwich? Didn’t bother to say anything because I can’t imagine how much longer it would’ve taken just to get another sandwich. Regardless of service, my food was great.

Awesome food! Their biscuits and gravy are excellent. Their hanger steak is seasoned and seared extremely well. Their pancakes are next level! Definitely recommend this place but know if you come on a Saturday or Sunday for brunch or breakfast you will wait… but it’s worth it.

Been here a couple times now. One of the best diners in the neighborhood. Full breakfast and lunch menu. Went on a Monday and was still busy Id expect a wait on weekends. Service was fast and friendly. The pancake was good a little sweet for my liking. The grits weren’t traditional southern grits they had peppers and a few other things not my favorite but they were good. Prices are very fair for the neighborhood I’d give a try!

Sitting outside is good when the weather permits. Staff is very friendly and social. The food arrives in a reasonable amount of time. Would highly recommend to my family and friends!

This cafe embraces a modern yet authentic spin on traditional American diner food. They serve meals that you know ingredientes are locally sourced, fresh in flavor. The atmosphere was very relaxing and nice. Service was great. Great option for lunch. I had a tasty Spinach Salad with Chicken.

The food was super delish and our server was fantastic! They got us in quick but there was definitely a sizable wait so be aware of that!

We came, we conquered, and we enjoyed great breakfast food, great counter service, and met great hard-working members of the staff. Coffee was great. They had NOPALES & SCRAMBLED EGGS ON CHALK BOARD SPECIAL, and I LOVED them. My darling wife had JOE'S SPECIAL, I HAD YELLOW CORN TORTILLA NOPALES& EGGS, and I had STEAK & EGGS, ( HANGER STEAK) COOKED PERFECTLY. FRESHLY SQUEEZED LEMONADE. Simply put, it was a fantastic breakfast. We loved so much we went back the following morning. Look into going early, summer great and lemonade goes hand in hand m, cool off and enjoy AUSTIN-ITES 😉 FAVORITE counter spot. Two great locations

This was great! Came on. Sunday morning so it was pretty busy. The crab cake and chicken biscuit was FIRE. Didn’t care for the tangy Caesar dressing but the honey butter is crazy good.

I have always wanted to try this place where every time swing by there is no parking left and figured I arrived too late. But this time around I was dedicated to dine here even if I had to wait a long time. When I pulled in to the parking lot once again it seemed like every spot was taken until I found one. It was the last one, but my luck was not over yet. When my wife and I walked inside it was very busy but there was two spots open at the chef’s table which was bar-type seating. We could watch food getting prepared right in front of us. I was excited. The menu consisted of breakfast and lunch served until 3:00 PM. I decided to order a Top Chico and the Quail & Eggs. My wife ordered the Pork Chop & Fries. The place was packed and the attentive staff keeping up quite good with the customers. There was inside and outside seating but not a big place. I just felt lucky everything fell place to be able to park and seated so quickly. I watch my quail as it cooked on the grill and admired the plates of food ready to be served to customers. They all look marvelous and soon mine was ready to be placed in front of me. It was beautifully presentable with a whole piece of grilled quail, two sunny side up eggs, breakfast potatoes and homemade biscuit. My wife’s pork chop looked and smelled good with fries and salad. My quail tasted excellent and was basically boneless except the legs and wings. It had great flavor and with soft meat. The eggs tasted farm fresh for it had dark yellow yolks. Along with the potatoes and biscuit I truly enjoyed it all. I cleaned my plate clean and headed to my wife’s to taste the pork chop. It was a half inch cut pork chop cooked with nice seasonings and tasted really good. Perhaps next time will enjoy the blueberry hot cakes I saw get served to another customer.

Counter Cafe is an incredible little spot. True to diner fashion. It does have table service. The breakfast is awesome and the Counter Burger is the best ever! A great crowd in here staff and patrons alike. It’s such a pleasure that this esteemed establishment is now in my neighborhood.

Service was fast. My husband ordered the egg sandwich. It was really good! I ordered the biscuits and it was a bit dried and bland but the butter makes up for the dryness. They have the white sausage gravy for $2 extra but not sure if I'm gonna like it so I just settle with the butter.

Solo eat, bar sat. Excellent service. Quick and attentive. Multiple coffee refills. Tasty food and reasonable prices. 10/10 would eat again. Clean restrooms.

I ordered the roasted vegetable sandwich with french fries. The sandwich was delicious. The roasted veggies and the cream cheese was a good pairing. I was not a huge fan of the bread. I think it would have been better on a ciabatta bread but that’s just me. The fries were awesome. Perfectly crispy and salty. I wanted to try the freshly squeezed lemonade but they were out. The atmosphere was good and the counter were you sit is cool. You can see your food being made or you can sit at a regular table.

Service was great, and the food was pretty good. I found my potatoes and biscuit to be slightly bland. Other than that, hotsauce did the trick and I recommend the orange juice.

This place has Fresh Orange and Grapefruit juice! The breakfast is okay, but the Blueberry pancakes were the winner by far (!!)!and the service (by Steve) was excellent.

I go to counter all the time. I’ll order anything on the menu. Today I ordered tacos to go and go NOTHING like what is served in house. They are usually overflowing with potatoes and bacon and I barely had anything in it. Never order to go, they’ll change everything. so disappointed and I want my money back. You can’t tell me this tiny taco is $5 never again
