A really good place to eat, drink wine and talk. All the dishes were delicious. The salad size is for share, you could consider that.

The Backspace is a great pizza/Italian restaurant right off 6th tucked behind their sister restaurant Parkside. It’s a smaller restaurant so I’d recommend getting reservations early or see if you can snag some seats at the bar. The ricotta appetizer was delicious as was the wine and the pepperoni pizza. So much flavor packed in to their pizza and great dough. I’d recommend getting a few pies to share for the table. Thanks The Backspace for a great evening.

Waitress super nice, very disappointed with baked Ricotta sample portion (not a plate size) for $15 a couple of cherry tomatoes and half a slice of eggplant. My Margarita pizza was ok, but the edges were little burnt and that took away the joy. If you’re expecting Italian restaurant/cuisine look harder.

Rustic ambiance, close-knit dining, the smell of pizza in the air - these were some of my first impressions upon walking into The Backspace. Food preparations inspired by authentic Italian cooking, you’ll find everything on the menu to be made by scratch. For pizzas I got: - Fennel Sausage: which comes with mozzarella cheese, tomato, roasted pepper, and garlic. What I like most here is the strong fennel taste that comes out of the sausage, hard to describe, but it’s kinda like an onion flavor. I really like it. - Their off-menu, Leek & Prosciutto: which came with fontina and ricotta cheese, onion marmalade (jam, essentially), shallots, garlic, lemon zest, and chili oil drizzle. Given it’s a white base, it was much lighter. Hints of sweet notes from the chili oil, shallots, and chili oil elevate the savory notes of the cheese and garlic which make for a unique-tasting pizza. Additionally, what I like most about their pizzas is their consistency: soft enough to chew easily and crunchy enough where it was fun to continue to eat it. Slightly charred crust, just how I like it. I always like to get a tomato based pizza and white based pizza as they contrast very well together. Now let’s go back and talk about the antipasti that I started with before I got pizza: - Burrata: comes with sweet peppers, charred tomato, and cucumber. Refreshing way to start off your meal. - Baked Ricotta: comes with cherry tomatoes, roasted eggplant, oregano, and focaccia bread to dip. This one is heavier and creamier. For the cheese lover! What I noticed about both is the cheese flavors aren’t overpowering which balances them out amongst the ingredients they come with. Two types of ways to start off your meal - which do you pick? Now going to dessert: I finished off my meal with their: - Chocolate Hazelnut Budino: you’re essentially taking a higher quality, creamier chocolate pudding and mixing it with whipped cream and topping it off with hazelnut toffee. Rich chocolate flavors, but not overkill - enough to leave you satisfied. All in all, I was satisfied with my visit here. Balanced flavors, good amount of variety to choose from, decently priced - I suggest y’all come try them out. - *Follow @thehungrylonghorn on Instagram for more in-depth and honest reviews!

This place was delicious. I had the mushroom pizza which had capers and thyme which was an excellent combination. I look forward to the next time. Be mindful it is a small place and filled up pretty quick during lunch. Pizza is made fresh and you can watch if you sit at the bar seating.

Cute little place. Came for dinner on a Sunday evening. Even without the reservation, we were able to find a spot for 4. It was busy. The pizza was very good and so was the burrata we ordered. Also ordered hazelnut chocolate budino and was very good.

Cute little place with a great happy hour across its antipasti selection. The meatballs were devine! Really enjoyed the buratta too. Didn’t enjoy my pizza as was overwhelmingly herb tasting and the beer wasn’t great but it’s a charming and busy restaurant definitely worth a visit even if just for 5 portions of meatballs!

The setting here is great for a romantic date night. We went as a family for my son's birthday and the waiter was very attentive and made him feel special. The food was delicious. Very small and intimate.

Come for the atmosphere, stay for the pizza. It’s cozy and quaint inside. Sit at the bar right in front of the pizza oven. Watch your pizza be made by hand in front of you. Share a pizza and a bottle wine. It’s sure to be a great date night with yourself or a friend.

Cute space with very soft lighting. Service was excellent! We ordered the marinara pizza which was very tasty. The dough has incredible chew and the oven cooks it perfectly. If you like raw garlic you'll love the marinara pizza. If you prefer garlic with a more subtle impact on flavor, you better get a different pizza. The shaved garlic was too fresh and too much and completely over powered the pizza at first bite. Had to remove approximately 40 shavings or 1-2 cloves to finish eating the pizza.

Fantastic spot, great food, incredible service. A refuge from the 6th St madness. Great for a date night with your boo. Luke took amazing care of us, he's very knowledgeable of all the wines and is very personable. My wife and I love it and will keep coming back.

10/10! In town for the F1 event and popped in for dinner. I love me some brick oven pizza. Backspace, for sure, has the recipe nailed for service, atmosphere and pizza!! Crust - nailed. Sauce - perfect. Toppings - generous. My buddy and I sat at the bar and had great service. If I'm ever back in town, I will definitely be back!! Everything about this place is excellent. Thanks!!

A cozy rustic intimate restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Love the brick oven. Seating tables are a little too close but it is a small space so to be expected. Short dining hours but worth experiencing.

The Backspace is a must-visit for pizza and wine lovers! We enjoyed their happy hour at the bar, and the wine was fantastic. The pizza was absolutely exquisite. We went at happy hour and had an awesome time. Make sure to ask for chili oil and red pepper flakes to add a nice kick to the bite. Can't wait to go back!

We came here for dinner on New Years Eve and had a wonderful time. The setting was very intimate and the staff was very friendly and helpful. We ordered meat balls and pepperoni pizza and they were both delicious. Definitely recommend trying Backspace!

My wife and I came here on a Wednesday night with our recently-adopted baby and loved it! Got the mushroom pizza, which was astonishing - so packed with flavor and insanely creamy ricotta cheese. The hazelnut budino dessert was also ridiculously rich and yummy. Our server was also very helpful and friendly - we are thankful for the hospitality and good food at an emotional time in our lives :)

This is a great little bar and restaurant. Small, but they serve good pizza, and have a wonderful staff and atmosphere. Not too expensive especially given your in a large city downtown area, right next to 6th. You'll need reservations for a table but not for the bar.

Cesar's salad and the pizza was just fantastic, simple, fresh and just fantastic. I'm a vegetarian so not many options on the small menu (no longer serve the panini thats still on the menu) it's a small place and no big signs out front, and seems that's what they want=low profile. I've never eaten at a little Italian restaurant in Italy but this is what I'd envision.

Some of the best pizza I've had in a while. Would have given it 5 stars...but I was dripping sweat! 🥵 Did they even have the AC on?

Always a great experience!! The pizza is wood fire and everything is so tasty. So grab a great glass of wine and enjoy the evening. You can’t go wrong. Every time we go, the food and drinks are great. The staff does a great job with recommendations too.

This is an absolute must Italian small restaurant if you are visiting Austin. The vibe is fantastic and the wood fired pizza oven is center stage. We had the garden board and the mushroom pizza. I've lived and study in Italy and I can say without a doubt this was authentic cuisine that if I were to have shut my eyes I could have been in any small trattoria in Italy.

The Backspace has been our favorite restaurant in Austin for years now. Of all of the Neapolitan-style restaurants we've tried locally and while traveling, only The Backspace in Austin and 2 Amys in Washington DC are the only ones that taste like the best pizza in Naples. The clarity and intensity of flavor in their pizza sauce makes the pizza, in my opinion; you have to use excellent quality ingredients to get that flavor in such a simple sauce. I had the margherita and my husband had the pepperoni americano (both delicious!), and we loved both of the desserts on their dessert menu. It was a bit busier this time than when we've visited in the past since we went later in the evening than we typically do. My favorite time to go is for an early dinner when not all of the tables are full, yet, and there aren't many people waiting for bar seating. Nonetheless, even when the restaurant was busy, dinner here still felt cozy and conversations felt intimate (whether you're going for date-night intimate or catching-up-with-friends intimate).

I ate here 10/2/2021. It was a busy weekend with ACL and MotoGP in town. All tables and reservations were booked but told me bar was open seasoning, which was fine with me. Ordered off menu pizza (no problem), salad and wine. I enjoy wine and made a comment about it. She lined up 3 wine glasses for a tasting. I picked the one I enjoyed and got a fresh pour. The bill came and there was a small discount on it.I did not ask why nor did I care since it is not expensive. A generous tip was left and hope the staff enjoyed it. Thanks. PS.-If you are going for F1 race--better hurry and make a reservation for parties more than 1 !!!

This is the perfect place for date night. So romantic and small. I only counted about 10 tables. Very intimate and dark. I suggest reservations. The white pizza with arugula was my favorite. For two people, we ordered pork meatballs two pizzas and a bottle of wine.
