This is the perfect place to go for a well-lit, intimate happy hour or dinner with friends. If the weather is nice, request the patio for amazing lighting and energy; it’s designed so that you don’t have to hear everybody’s convos. You can’t go wrong with the mole sauce. All the flavors are delicious. Get the “ice cream that tastes like bread” (sesame seed & black powder) for a bizarre yet lovely experience for your senses. The service was so good that my friend and I joked that they have 10 people on staff to refill your water like ninjas. The chef apologized for the delay on our dessert by sending out a free coffee/ice cream experience with a little donut included. The service was sublime.

I went to celebrate my birthday and my experience exceeded my expectations. The staff signed a birthday card for me which I thought was a thoughtful gesture. We had multiple dishes and definitely were pleased with presentation, flavor, and serving sizes. The menu is seasonal so you'll see it change frequently. The bone marrow tacos are a staple and recommended having at least once. My favorite were the Tacos de Pescado, which are on the lighter side. The Tacos al Vapor were delicious but quite messy to eat, beware eating if you are wearing white. The patio is gorgeous and feels like a hidden gem right in the middle of the city. Highly recommend if you are in the mood for high end Mexican food.

Pretty good interior Mexican food. Drinks are strong. We had salad (delicious), another appetizer that I forgot name of, octopus, bone marrow, fish collars and ice cream dessert. Salad was my favorite amazingly. The rest was good. 2 drinks + those items is approx $225 including tax and tip.

We’ve been going to Comedor for years now and it never fails to impress. The food is always amazing, and the cocktails on point. The menu changes frequently so there is always something new to try. The atmosphere is great and service has always been awesome. Lastly don’t leave without trying the bone marrow tacos.

Watch-out: on top of food and tip and tax, they charge administrative fee (2%), service fee (5%), and healthcare surcharge (3-4%) —— so… that’s like 18% tip + 8% sales tax + 10% above extra. Quite a lot. Food was ~excellent, except for the salad situation. Spinach wasn’t that fresh unfortunately. Bone marrow taco melts in your mouth, quite fatty but that’s what you want. Shrimp cocktail is on point (slightly spicy). And the dessert (milk ice cream and brownie with molten chocolate inside) ooh-la-la

Disappointed. Great space, friendly staff but the food was mediocre at best. Crudo - was probably the best of the night but it was nothing special Avocado Tostada - taco itself was quite hard, not very flavorful Smoked Fish Taquitos - terrible. The fish tasted super dry, the taco wrap was so thick, hard and crunchy that my teeth started to hurt from trying to chew through everything. Couldn’t even finish this dish Okra / Charred Corn - had to order this to wash down the terrible taquitos. Overall taste was decent with a size-able portion but was a bit too tart to my personal taste. Agua Fresca - tasted watered down Overall dining experience was unmemorable. I’m grateful that the staff comped the okra dish but even that couldn’t save how disappointed I was with this meal. Maybe the mains were better but if this is the state of the appetizers I’m afraid to even order the main dishes. Sadly this had been a recommended spot but unfortunately won’t be coming back.

I feel that although I’ve given them 4 stars, I will have to visit again and have the full dining experience. Service was good despite that we found this place just browsing around and the entrance is hard to find. Interesting menu and indeed high end presentation. As in any restaurant in this category, expect a taste, not sure if sharing is a good choice, unless you do tapas style and order more than 2 appetizers to share. Drinks were good. A bit dissatisfied with my salad which I chose because of the nopales, I had to ask the waiter for them. He took the plate back and a few pieces showed up.

Finally got to try this place out. Was very pleased with the quality of food delivered, cocktails were very good as well. I would definitely say it’s more like $200+ rating if you’re going with multiple people. Will definitely be back, the atmosphere was very good. Would love to sit out on the patio when it’s cooled off outside

I’ve been to Comedor more than 5 times, I love the atmosphere here SO much! The drinks were amazing, my favorite is “beets happening - mezcal” sooo good! Service was great, and most of the time we got walked in welcome (party of 2) so it’s kinda convenient for us. The grilled carrot was really good but lately it has changed. I think I had whole grilled carrots which better than cut one, awhile ago. I had octopus couple and it’s pretty good— love it! Overall everything pretty good, always enjoyed the time here.

I've been wanting to come here for a long time, and while we didn't go for dinner, we went for drinks and appetizers. The place is really cool, although it is dark. The ambience is inviting and sets the mood for some great Mexican cuisine. There are tables and there's a natural outdoor experience with lots of plants in the setting. They have a huge bar area and a wide selection of drinks. The staff is friendly and entertaining. We ordered a $21 taco, which was like a tostada and while extremely expensive, was so delicious. I think it had octopus and a few other items in it. We will definitely go back again for a full dinner. Btw, This is Comedor, not the Garage. :-)

If you are in Austin and want to have a gourmet experience you can’t miss this place. Trust me when I tell you I am a VERY picky person when it comes to food. And when it comes to Mexican food even more since I have had the luck to visit Mexico City for years besides part of my family lives there. Having said this; here is “Comedor” The moment you enter this well distributed, decorated and remodeled building you know you’re in a special place. The interior design taken care by Olson Kundig is immaculate creating two different atmospheres with class and modernism. The service stuff knows what they are doing and taking apart the little extra time we had to wait to get started (they were pretty packed to be fair) everything else went on wheels. Hand crafted michelada that tasted like heaven under the hot night of Austin gave pace to a bunch of well presented tasty starters. We were a big group so had the chance to try a LOT of their dishes. Good wine selection, we went for a good Rioja that pairs perfectly with this type of food. And then… a life changing signature dish “Bone Marrow Tacos” came in last to wrap up a great culinary experience.

The best meal I had in Austin! It was such a creative menu and presentation, our table really enjoyed the tuna aguilache, beef tartare, grilled octopus, bone marrow, sundae, and the tajin pavlova. We also got some cocktails and mock tails and thought those were tasty too. Everything was extremely delicious and we had an amazing time eating here. The service was extremely attentive without being overbearing. We definitely will come back again!

3.5/5 stars ✨ - we got most of the dishes on HH. If we were to go after HH, I don’t think the value is worth the price. Orchard fire: it is good but the pear and cinnamon weren’t as pronounced Worth the Squeeze: it had crushed ice in addition to big ice cubes. It was just ok Secret Garden with Gin added: it tasted like a mild Moscow mule. Didn’t really taste the coconut Snapper Tostada: bad. The crab was fishy and you couldn’t taste the snapper Bone marrow: we got the HH version, there was barely any marrow on those bones (this is not the restaurant fault by any means) but the bed of kale that the bones were served over was to die for!! I think they should offer kale tacos! Crudo: it was very good Comote: it was good Tacos de Pescado: had great texture with the cabbage, it was good Lengua tacos: it was amazing!! the tongue was so moist, the star of the meal Mussels: they were dry without the sauce and just ok with the sauce and everything else Papas Fritas: the verde mole was great! We really enjoyed them Tamal de Chocolate: tasted a little bit burnt, maybe this is how it supposed to be 🤷🏻‍♀️

My wife and I happened upon Comedor as we were traipsing around downtown, so we stopped in for cocktails and a snack. The front door blends in with its surroundings, so it gives you that exclusive feeling. The decor is so appealing, very upscale and sexy. The staff is extremely welcoming and attentive. The cocktails were expertly crafted and every ingredient was celebrated in the food. I’d recommend stopping in for happy hour, as it’s a lot easier on the wallet. But Comedor is everything you’d want out of a high end, intimate, and relaxing experience.

Started out our Austin weekend at Comedor. While it was absurdly hot outside even with the fans and misting, and surprisingly dimly lit, we had a good time. The variety of different dishes we tried were delicious and the service and drinks were solid. I would return again, but specifically request to sit inside.

My fist visit and surely not my last at Comedor! My sister was in town visiting and we were in the mood for drinks and bites while catching up. It was raining and Monday, and finding parking downtown is always a challenge. The adjacent garage with valet parking was perfect. ($12). I’m glad I was with my sister, who’s son works there and had been before or I might have missed the entrance. The matte black metal door tucked into a corner is subtle and easy to miss. Once inside, the focus is the back wall; incredible selection of spirits; tequilas and mezcals. Behind the liquor shelving, a glass brick wall obscures the street view but allows natural light through. I found it really relaxing watching the light change as the sun set, the staff placing small candles along the shelves creating an intimate feel. The bar runs nearly the length of the long, rectangular seating area, the seating was solid and comfortable, and even with a large group of maybe 18 folks behind us, my sister and I could converse without yelling. The room has tons of natural light thanks to the wall of floor to ceiling (a very high ceiling too!) windows looking out to an atrium for outdoor seating. It would be really fun to have a it booked for a private party. Our bar server Mason, was adorable, very professional, and made the best margaritas! We both picked the same one, The Comedor margarita and I enjoyed watching him expertly shake them to perfection. I could have enjoyed a few more but had a long drive ahead so I focused on the food instead. Oh what incredible food! Everything is served small plate style for sharing, artfully presented with enough per order to enjoy but not be bored by the last bite. The unique recipes created with incredibly fresh ingredients made each bite memorable. We had the oysters on the half shell (2 per order), not something I normally would order but was glad I tried. So fresh, with a hint of brine and savory flavors. Then we had an unusual dish; several pieces of (seaweed?) lightly fried earthyness, hiding two each of delicately prepared sushi style fish that melted in the mouth, all swirled in an incredible (watermelon?) smooth salsa sauce that if there had been bread I’d have mopped the bowl clean. Next we feasted on the bone marrow tacos….oh yes please! The most tender red corn tortillas served along with two large beef bones atop lightly dressed and warmed kale, garnished with red onion. This was outstanding! I’ve made bone marrow before and this was expertly prepared and not something to miss. We also had (3 large) the taquito style taco plate,(3 per) served with another sauce that we couldn’t get enough. Very delicious! Slowing down,an order of the mild yet soothing hot lemongrass and ginger tea was perfect with our two desserts. Dessert one: A very large cup of rich cafe de Olla, topped with a creamy, lightly sweet dulce de lecha whipped (mouse?) concoction (I’d take a bowl of that, please!) and finished with a stout churro nestled inside the rim of the cup. I’ll admit the churro was a challenge to break apart for sharing. Being sturdy enough to require more than a spoon, it floated on the cream; not absorbing the hot coffee below, remaining crispy. I ended up taking it home, and every last cinnamon sugar coated morsel was consumed. The gorgeous, creamy Dulce de leche was the star of that dessert in my opinion. Dessert 2; Two unassuming spheres, approx 2” in diameter. One coated in a colorful mix of sesame seeds artfully protecting the extraordinary fresh churned Carmel ice cream beneath. TIP: Scoop the ice cream onto your spoon then scoop some from the other sphere; a super dark, barely sweetened, rich, dense, chocolate fudge meets a brownie type confection with a warm Carmel surprise center. Combing the three flavors onto one spoonful was a delicious experience and lovely way to end the meal. Thank you Comedor!

I went here on a rainy day and almost couldn’t find it. The sign to the building is not really that clear and on a dark day at night time you can miss it, so just pay attention. I think they have a pretty decent happy hour so if you wanna try it out but don’t wanna spend the amount of money for like the regular dinner menu, Definitely go during happy hour. Overall, I definitely think that it’s very expensive and the food is just OK. It wasn’t fantastic but our server was really nice really polite and loved to give us you his thoughts on things on the menu. (Which I love). They recommend you do family style I’m so basically share everything which I think is actually the best way to go about it. I think the chicken was actually really good. The bone marrow was OK. I was expecting more flavor and I just didn’t get that. Overall, I would go there again, but mostly for happy hour and not for like a full dinner.

This was an unforgettable culinary adventure at Comedor, where every bite is a sensory delight. The exquisite bone marrow tacos are an absolute must-try, while the succulent pork jowel dazzles with its perfect blend of crunchiness and juiciness. Impeccable service from the knowledgeable and attentive staff elevated the dining experience as well. Each small plate on the menu is a masterful combination of unique ingredients, ensuring that no matter what you choose, you'll embark on a Mexican-inspired flavor adventure. Highly recommend this place.

It’s a very seclusion restaurant (like it doesn’t look like the restaurant at all from outside) and the entrance is hard to find. I like how private it feels but some people find it pretty confusing. The ladies at the front desk were very friendly and welcoming. They offered a few tables for us to choose from and we picked one of the high tops close to the bar counter. We went there for dinner and the menu is more on the pricey end - almost NYC level. However, the restaurant does give an energetic and fun vibe. All the cocktails we tried were great and they were pretty generous on the portion when I ordered shots of don julio 1942. Things I didn’t like much about this place: 1) due to the design of the building, it gets very noisy and loud. Not a quiet date night experience. 2) it’s too dark at nights. I’d recommend them to turn more lights on during the dinner time Overall a fun experience and I’d still recommend everyone to go at least once.

A curated fine dining experience inspired by Mexican cuisine sourced from Texas farms. Comedor is a MUST for anyone involved in the food scene in Austin. Dishes are complex but balanced, every detail and bite considered carefully by the chef. The service is just as well thought out as the dishes, servers seamlessly and inconspicuously top up wine glasses and time your meal. You will leave thinking about your next visit.

Arriving a few minutes after Comedor opened, I was welcomed by the peace and beauty of the space. The service team was incredibly attentive and in pursuit of creating the best experience possible for me. I started my meal with the Bloody Mayhuel and loved the smokiness the mezcal brought to this brunch time staple. Followed by a rich and savory Beef Short Rib Pazole paired with fresh adornments. I felt comfort through each sip and bite of my delicious meal and was conscious to slow down and enjoy the time I was spending at Comedor.

The restaurant is beautifully done, and has a cool inner courtyard. As for food, I recommend the seafood tostada and the fish tacos were surprisingly amazing. The dessert (Mexican adffogato) was a bit underwhelming but still good.

Quite literally almost missed the door! But beyond the incognito exterior, you’ll step into a large, modern, industrial space that transports you to Mexico City. Came here for Sunday brunch. The pastry plate is a must, the huarache was uniquely delicious, and the aguafrescas can’t be skipped! Loved everything from start to finish!

Excellent modern Mexican. One of the best cocktail menus, the mezcals are a must. Great variety for variety of diets - vegan, veg, carnivores. The veggies, tamales, steak and fish tacos are not to be missed! Bone marrow is delicious. So is the green salsa. For brunch, snag a seat outside.
