Fantastic older beer garden from 1863. Was hoping to get schnitzel but they didn't have any. The brat was good traditional with sauerkraut. Great atmosphere outside. Happy hour music. Friendly staff. I would highly recommend.

Was in town and asked complete strangers for local recommendations and was steered here. Boy did that gamble pay off. Probably the best sausage plate I’ve had. And if that wasn’t enough also had the biggest and best pretzel I’ve ever had. Great service and the bartenders were funny and chill. Will definitely come back if I’m in town again.

I have been all over Europe eating pretzels. This was the best and biggest pretzel EVER! It is worth the trip to Austin to eat this pretzel. Shhhhh... do not tell but we HAD to order a 2nd one. It was that good.

We stopped in before a concert at the Moody Center. It takes a while to get seated (even when it's not busy). The drinks and food are good, but the service is lacking. It's pretty loud inside, just know what to expect before going in. The outside patio area has a nice vibe and there are mister fans that help keep it cool.

We went to Austin for a weekend trip and randomly stumbled across Scholz Garten. With no expectations, we were immediately impressed with the hospitality and history of this place. The bartender and server that helped us were exceptional and friendly. The history of this place was equally fascinating. Ask about the underground tunnels and hidden safe.

Great selection of beers, good food, super service. I found this German styled bier garten by accident and I do not regret it at all. You can choose from so many buyers, drinks ans they also serve German styled food such as Pretzels with beer cheese, sausages. They also sell nachos and so on. Great place for sitting outside or inside.

I had a great German themed lunch here. We got the sauerkraut balls and some bratwurst. The food was delicious and the beer list was pretty varied as well. The staff was friendly and there was plenty of seating. The beer garden is nice and shaded as well. There's only paid street parking though so plan accordingly. I'll definitely be coming back.

We wandered across Scholz Garten by accident on our way back from the Blanton Museum, but so glad we did. Super-friendly service, great brats and a huge selection of beer. The outdoor patio was cool and comfortable on a warm October day.

Great environment with a cool history and tasty food. Lots of vegetarian options including a Beyond Brat. The appetizer giant pretzel and sauerkraut balls also are veg friendly and delicious. Will definitely go back.

Good food here! Typically we only go to Scholz for drinks or attend UT events (and order drinks), but we decided to meet friends up for lunch on a weekend. I ordered the Chopped beef sammy with a side salad. Wow, that was a good burger and the side salad came out in a huge portion size. Even though the day was sunny and approaching 100 degrees, we sat out on the patio. The misting fans and tent kept us cool and out of the sun. Staff was friendly and provided good service. I'm ordering more than drinks next time I'm here.

I’m in downtown Austin for work. I’ve been walking past this place every day. I finally went in. First of all. This is the best sauerkraut I have ever eaten in my entire life. The pretzel buns are crispy, salty and soft on the inside. Absolutely delicious. The brats were fantastic. So much flavor. Germain potato salad was on point. Fantastic!!!! Of your in Austin and you don’t stop here. Your missing out.

Always-friendly staff in an historic Austin building. The food was elevated German pub food - delicious! Outdoors, there are water misters to keep the patio comfortable in the heat. This was just a regular weekend day. GameDay is crazier, I'm certain, with the oldest and largest tailgate party in town - possibly even the state. They also have live music, but we were there in the afternoon, before anyone was on stage.

A nice place to eat some German food. There is indoor and outdoor seating. I sat outside and there was shaded areas, plus mist machines to keep the temperature down. There is paid parking across the street. It is limited but there are many parking garages within a short walk. There are large screen TVs playing too. Not a fancy pkace but it has character as the oldest bar in Texas I believe. The food prices are decent and the food was delicious. I ordered the lemon peppered smoked Wings. The Wings were large and meaty with a nice smokey taste. I also had the Beef Tips Spazzle. The beef and gravy went well over the noodles. It was quite filling along with the red sauerkraut. The server was friendly but he had a lot of tables to manage and was a little slow with service, however he had a nice smile and did well. The drink prices are average for downtown but the drinks are strong. The beer prices are a little pricy but there are 2 sizes, 16oz and 32 oz droughts. The larger size is the best deal. It is worth your time to at least stop by for a beer and a Brat or another delicious options off the menu.

Love the atmosphere and building. The service and beer were great but so far the food has been ok. Still need to test a few things out. Will add more stars of other things I try are improved.

What a great experience. The food was phenomenal and it was such a treat to be able to enjoy German cuisine as a vegetarian. Their impossible brats were so delicious.

Nice selection of German beers and close proximity to Royal Stadium. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating. Full service bar. The beer garden is nicely shaded with plenty of room. Serving lunch and dinner.

The staff and service was amazing! The bar is authentic and from Germany. Very spacious location for gatherings and a wonderful German experience. Great food and beer! Love the postcards and the history of this place! Thanks for a wonderful time and hospitable accomodations!

If you take a good look at the map of restaurants in this area, you will notice that this one stands apart from the big group to the west. It stands bold and alone, as a hole-in-the-wall place off San-Jacinto. That's the first way to tell this place is good. The building is aesthetic, and stepping inside, the vibe hits just right. They had a lot of options on their menu, someday I may update this review with my thoughts on different dishes, but on my visit I had the German Wurst Board. The presentation was great, as were the bratwursts (and the pretzel rolls!) themselves. The portions are filling, the sweet tea was right where I like it, and the server I had was hilarious. I loved the place, will be back to try more things. Oh, and the prices are reasonable.

I was really excited to come here and get some German food at the oldest bar in Texas. Unfortunately the hours posted online were incorrect and we ended up arriving right at closing time. They were nice enough to let us order a couple giant Bavarian pretzels to go that were amazingly delicious. It smelled so good inside, I will definitely try again next time I'm in Austin.

We went to this German specialty restaurant near the Capitol building, with family and had a great time. This was not busy at this time. Great German decorations thru out the place, and a very inviting outdoor patio, where I heard gets crowded with large tailgate parties. We had a huge pretzel for an appetizer as big as your head. I got the wienerschnitzel which was good, and a favorite of mine, and a German beer. They closed oddly early that night, so we did not get to stay as long as we would have liked.

The oldest beer garden in America, and they're still relevant! Accidentally happened upon their Maifest. Festive and energetic, with German food specials that hit the spot. The full-liter steins are also a decent deal on high-quality local beer. Enjoyed it!
