You start by going up stone steps for about ten minutes and then you are rewarded by breathtaking panoramic views of the Colorado River and a tributary. The walk from the top is full of large stones that give a sense of ancient times. Very photogenic scenery 💙

I've been coming to Mount Bonnell for 27 years. It's been my go-to place to take first-time visitors to the Austin area because of its beauty and the fabulous views it offered. The winding roads that lead up to it require driving slowly, and on more than one occasion I've had to stop for deer in the road. Once you reach the park, parking is easily available (clearly marked) along the side of the road all along the hillside. Be careful walking from your car to one of the entrances, because sometimes people passing by don't drive as slowly as they should. You can choose to either ascend the fairly steep stairs at the south entrance, or at the north entrance take the more gradual pathway up to the top of the hill. Once you're at the top, there are benches and a few tables and some stunning views of Austin that you can't find anywhere else! Check out the boats along the river, the very nice houses, or the ever-evolving view of the Austin skyline. To me, it never grows old. At some point of the last almost-30 years, the Mt. Bonnell carved rock monument on the top of the hill was fractured in half, but to my surprise in this most recent trip it's been fully restored with what looks like the original stone! A must-see Austin stop.

Recommended spot to capture best view from mount bonnell top and lake austin/colorado river. Free parking on the side of the road at the base of mountain. The 100+ stairs to get to top are relatively easy with low rise steps. There are two other gravel roads through the forest to get to the top.

Great park. Walk is easy, even for those not in the best shape. Beautiful views. Highly recommend taking a drive out to visit this location.

We went for a short hike and stayed there till sun sets. I took my sister with me and it was her first time here, The view of Colorado river from the top is absolute pleasing. There were only few people in top which made more easier for us to enjoy the view just by ourselves.

Wife, kids and I, along with 400 people we will never see again, enjoyed parking, walking up the steps and hiking around on top to see Austin and a pile of really big expensive houses. It’s okay though, the people living in those houses are woke, since they live in Austin. Might be a fun place to visit on a slow day when there are not so many people around.

This is one of the best places to watch the sunset in Austin. There is a 106-stair climb and a 0.5-mile hiking loop trail which gains 200-foot elevation. The park also offers several picnic tables, so bring a picnic to enjoy overlooking the 360 view of the Lake Austin, Austin downtown, and the western hills of Austin. On the way to reach the park, there is a peacock crossing allowing us to witness these majestic creatures freely roaming the roads. We visited there both in summer and winter. On a summer day, sometimes there are ice cream and food trucks. It's free to access with free parking. Though nowadays the parking lot is not secure enough. We have seen a lot of broken glasses on the road. During one of our visits, we noticed a nearby car had been broken into. The park authority should take measures to enhance safety and surveillance around the parking lot.

Our family checked out Mt. Bonnell which was a nice little site. There were some stairs to climb which were a little tiring as we had bike for 2 1/2 hours earlier but not something that would stop one from visiting. It was pretty cool up there but the vegetation does obscure a lot of the view.

Very unique place in Austin with magnificent view and nature. I enjoyed this place, special feeling being on the hill. If you are a foreigner or a tourist , try to visit it! I give 4 stars only for maintenance as there are a lot of people visiting this place unfortunately there are plastic bottles left, stickers, inscriptions, that makes really upset. There is parking very close and it’s free as well 2 ice cream trucks too. Very recommended.

Great spot to go for a walk and soak in some awesome views of the river and skyline. Also great spot to check out some amazing houses, wonder who lives in them, and dream of having one. If you have a drone, bring it. Friendly flying spot which made me regret not having mine with me.

We went up for sunrise but missed it. Lots of fog, but the views when the fog burned off it was nice. The park itself has some graffiti, but other than that, it's a nice hike up. You can use the stairs or go up the hill. Both are great ways to see the views.

We saw this on one of the bus tours. We definitely could have stayed longer than the bus allowed, but the views are beautiful! Worth visiting while in the area. The bus driver did warn that if you're taking your own car, park it close to the stairs because there are SO MANY car break-ins on the daily.

You can see the amazing combination of natural environment and built environment in this park. I think whoever visit Austin should not forgot to visit this place. I can never forgot this place. Since, viewing place is at a height we enjoyed hiking with friends. We also enjoyed viewing transportation bridges from bird’s eye view. It was a great feeling. I had got a goosebumps seeing this place at first, thinking how could something look so beautiful.

Free park and parking. You have to climb about 100 stairs, and you are then able to get some great views of the Colorado River. I think the views to the right of the main area were the best. A friend mentioned there have been a lot of car break ins, and you can see a lot of shattered glass, so lock your doors and make the visit quick.

Really cool park. Great view!! Parking kind of sucks but over all easily hike to get an amazing view of Austin and the water. Everyone that goes here is pretty friendly and it’s also pet friendly. Almost everywhere in Austin is pet friendly.

Beautiful sunset viewpoint. I was in town for two weeks and couldn’t help but spend 3 sunsets here. Doesn’t get too crowded on the weekdays I went, and it’s a good spot to get engaged (one couple did the evening I was there). Plenty of parking and there are two ways up. Flatter path from the right, or stairs on the left side of the long row of parking.

This park in Austin TX was simply amazing! Great views of the landscape, beautiful river, homes, boat watching. Hiking up the cliff was a lot of fun. We took our breakfast and had a great time enjoying the view off the cliff.

Beautiful view of the Colorado River. It has a very mediterranean look to it. We saw a few purple martin (birds), while waiting for the sun to set. There is also an area with a picnic table which was nice. There are A LOT of people going here to view the sunset so there will be a crowd. I was also nervous about the parking situation since it seems some peoples vehicles had been broken into.

Beautiful little park with amazing views. If you get here by car, you only have to walk up stairs for maybe a minute. Getting there on foot is quite exhausting, but doable. We went to the closest point via bus, and then walked for about half an hour.

Beautiful Austin. I enjoyed here. Beautiful Colorado River and great view from the hill top. Good spot in the evening or morning times in the summer.

Lovely views of the river and the Pennybacker bridge. It’s great exercise to go up and down the 102 steps. There are some pretty Ashe Junipers growing on the rocks near the cliffs.

Scruffy dirt and pebble path or hand cut limestone steps lead to fabulous views of Austin, the manmade lake below and the downtown Austin skyline. Very crowded parking area means you'll have to walk a lot to find the entry. Well worth it for a 5 minute visit. Note, we heard there were a lot of smashed windows on parked cars who came at night. Did not see other park facilities.

Great place to watch the sun set over the beautiful valley. One of the best views of Austin downtown. Typically a bit crowded during sunsets, but the view is beautiful.

Beautiful spot located in a Exquisite neighborhood. Big and luxurious houses you can see from top . A quite steps to go if you have health issues but there is a secondary way a little more easy few steps from main . It's a free place to visit in Austin.
