Okay, this was a really cool museum however as the George Washington Carver Museum, I would expect to have a nice portion dedicated to the great man. I saw a bust and a small area in the kids room. I was kind of bummed I didn't get to learn more.

We visited the George Washington Museum during the Austin Art Studio Tour 2023. This was a group show for the artists who are on the tour. Congratulations to all of those artists who sold their pieces. The prices were affordable and I wish we had attended this show the week prior. Some pieces were quite amazing, some were rather rudimentary...

Excellent info and exhibits. We learned so much! I'd definitely come back again! Many African American firsts were highlighted... First military pilot, first firefighter, families that settled in the area, even a symposium on gentrification!

The Boyd Vance theatre, like the Austin icon himself, is elegance and beauty in a small package. The museum staff are very welcoming. The museum exhibits eye-opening. And the LC Anderson exhibit a critical part of any central Texas historian’s understanding of race issues in our not-always-as-progressive-as-we-think city.

Great exhibits detailing lots of history of the Black journey from slave to Juneteenth. Saw dance classes taking place on the theater and space being used for HCBU informational tables. Adjacent to the library.

I’ve learned so much African-American history in one visit! I love the layout of the museum and it’s inspired me to be even more relentless in my own artistic endeavors. There is such a beautiful tribute to the African American families that have paved the way in the city of Austin. Truly worth visiting!!!

Very good place to learn about the history of Texas when it comes to the civil rights and during the war. The facility is clean and well kept, displays were dust free and details explaining what the particular display is, statues, some of the videos and map were outdated. They also hold special programs and event rental facilities

A small but excellent museum giving an overview of slavery and its impacts on Texas and the Austin area. I liked that most of the displays were showing the valuable contribution the enslaved black community made to the area after emancipation gave them their deserved freedom. I'll need to come back to Austin for Juneteenth as it looks a great place to celebrate this important day! 🙏

The history here is always fascinating. I only visit a couple of times a year but always learn lots from the exhibits. I was sorry the art gallery area was empty this visit. Usually has interesting art. The City of Austin should publicize this place much much more.

Rich and wonderful exposure to the black history and experience in America and Austin. So many contributions to the city of Austin and surrounding area were and are being made by the Black community. Thank you fornthe opportunity to learn and appreciate.

Great museum in the east side of Austin with plenty of interesting, inspiring, and some tragic themes. The outside yard displays the history of African Americans all the way up to Juneteenth. Ideal for families that love learning and the culture.

Beautiful place filled with lots of history through photos, artifacts and loads of information. The art is fantastic! And the history takes you back to a time of loss and struggle. I am so glad that my husband and I chose to visit the museum. I was fascinated to see how many African Americans had been inventors. Our history books need to change! We need to tell the truth. We need more documentaries of these wonderful beings.
