I suppose the rooms are the size one should expect from a historical building. Our view was like one at a hospital facing internationally. Seeing the roof and a/c stuff. Nothing special there. The room was quite, bathroom was beautifully large relative to the room, it even had a make-up vanity, which I loved! Everything was very clean and I'm one to notice all the small details. Guest services was nice and welcoming.

We just went for the weekend. Hotel is nice, a bit dated/historic if you like that vibe. Valet was great but expensive. No outdoor pool which for us is a huge downside. But, they literally had the best gym I have ever seen in a hotel!! TV's need an upgrade. The bed and pillows were comfortable. My morning Keurig coffee was a disappointment, only teas and decaf in the room. Front desk brought coffee from downstairs but it was not good either. So, we walked around the corner to 1886 Cafe and Bakery and had an amazing breakfast and coffee! Highly recommend. There are a lot of RULES at this hotel and things are only open inside the hotel at weird hours. Other than that, it was nice. I wouldn't stay there again when there are so many other options in the same price range that offer more for less.

No daily room cleaning service despite asking repeatedly. Erratic hot water, including an outage that was known in advance by the hotel but not communicated until check in. Terrible breakfast food. Very expensive for the service provided, would have been satisfactory if advertised as a 3 star hotel and half the price.

Convenient location in downtown Austin. Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel is on the older side and heavily carpeted but overall clean and comfortable. They only do housekeeping when you place an explicit request.

This hotel was the worst. Please avoid. First, they will charge way more than you book for, claiming its in case of damages. My room was so much smaller than my travel companions. There was stains on my sheets when I got there and I had to call twice to get them changed. My bathroom door wouldn't even click shut. There was exposed wires and peeling paint. The pool was so chemically that I smelled like chlorine even after two showers. The room also never cooled down, making me think the thermostat was just for show. No free breakfast.

Do not stay at The Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel, terrible! Old and dirty, the pullout bed mattress was stained and dirty as was the bathtub. The staff was nice, however would not waste my money to stay here again. I left a night early and stayed somewhere else, unfortunately the hotel refused to give me a refund for the second night. Don't waste your money!!!!!!

Check in was smooth and the front desk was nice. But our room was a literal Cracker Jack box. There was nothing about it that was comfortable or worth the price I paid for it. The bed was uncomfortable and even with just two people, it was extremely cramped. Definitely not what they make it out to be. I’ve stayed at holiday inns with better rooms

2nd time staying here. I came for the hot tub but return because of the service. As last time, great staff, friendly service, nice rooms (I even got a nice upgrade), convenient location. I was a bit lost in the stairwell and a friendly employee even directed me to the exit. Thank you Lori! Highly recommended. Will return.

I loved staying at this hotel. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. Geraldo would always open the door for me when I returned and would say "welcome home." The location is perfect IF you like staying in a downtown area. It's walkable to shops, dining, theaters, the Congress St bridge, and the Capital building. CapMetro Bus stations are within a few blocks (Route 20 goes to/from the airport). The buses can get you to so many places in the city for $1.25. I loved the indoor pool and hot tub after a long day of walking around. You must spend time outside on the 2nd floor terrace. Absolutely a great, relaxing space. Bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper. This is downtown, and you will notice music from across the street (esp on a Sat night) and roaring engines from vehicles on the street. The hotel cannot control this, so plan accordingly. If noise REALLY bothers you, don't stay anywhere downtown. All the downtown hotels are in a similar situation. Bring sunglasses. There are homeless people on the street as you walk around. They are not aggressive, but having sunglasses helps you avoid eye contact. Again, this is not something the hotel can control. It is downtown after all. They are not inside the hotel property or near the entrance, so you don't have to worry about that.

I loved my stay at the Royal Sonesta in Austin! The room was well maintained with on request housekeeping. The walls were nice and thick so you couldn't hear neighbors walking around. I was able to get a good nights sleep here even though the hotel is on Congress Ave. AC worked like a champ. It kept the room cool despite outside being 100+ degrees. The salt water pool is lovely as is the hot tub. I didn't get to use the gym while I was there but it seemed to have a lot of different workout machines. The only thing that I hoped would be better was the room service hours as well as the times that the bar/restaurant was open. I went during a holiday weekend so it could have been that the hours changed but room service was only available for lunch and dinner (til 8pm) and the restaurant was closed for half of my stay. I wish that it was more clearly stated in the brochures. Aside from that, I love that something like this is available in Austin. It's got that old timey western charm with some modern amenities. If you're like me and enjoy staying in the most walkable places while traveling, I'd recommend the Royal Sonesta, Austin. One note if you have a car: It's pretty expensive to have the valet take the car to the hotel garage (50$ish dollars a night) but there's also a garage where you can "self park" for $20 a day just around the block. It's not affiliated with them though so do with that what you will.

Amazing spot and friendly staff. Rooms need a bit of renewing. But i cant complain. Everthing works just fine and the AC is super cold just how i like it

If you have a gift certificate that you got at a fundraiser don’t even think you’re going to be able to use it here. Don’t bother getting anyone a gift certificate here as they don’t honor them. I was told by the front desk there were plenty of room available for that day and at that point she was going to book the room for me. Then I told them I had a gift certificate and she said i'd needed to speak to a supervisor about it. I was then told they were sold out and to full for me to use it. However when I first called they were gladly going to take my reservation until I said it was that. I looked online and it was available with 6 different sites to book online as well. The manager even emailed me to explain how it was ok that I could pay for a room but not use a certificate. Trying to book in the middle of the week even, no holiday no weekend. Anyways if in the beginning they would have said they were almost full or sold out this review would have never happened

Can hear everything from the bars on the next street. The bass is blasting through the rooms until after midnight, so can't cover it with white noise, tv, etc. The hotel staff was nice but said there's nothing they can do. Room is super dated; they tried to cover the old desk chair with a weird, ill fitting cover. Coffee machine didn't work. Again, staff was nice about correcting.

Great Hotel, centrally located to all the downtown festivities. Very nice restaurant on the first floor and you can smoke cigars on the second deck. I plan on staying here again.

I stayed here on 5/30/2022 My room was clean and had everything I needed plus the bathroom was huge! The bed was supposed to be a king but felt larger and was super comfy. I loved the second floor outdoor patio. It was quiet and comfortable, and the bar was also welcoming. The location couldn’t be better- just a few minutes walk from 6th Street, but far enough away to not hear it; every type of food you could want is within walking distance. The service was flawless, everyone was genuinely kind and I have no complaints.

I have been driving by this hotel every week and just thought it looked so elegant and had a great view. We decided to make a last minute reservation to spend our anniversary there! The Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel was everything I thought it would be! The hotel was beautifully decorated with their Christmas decor and made for some lovely pictures! We began the evening with drinks on the 2nd floor in the Stephen F’s bar and terrace. It is an elegant bar, with a variety of delish cocktails and cigar case. We enjoyed our cocktails on the terrace with a great view to the capital! The beds were comfy and the pillows felt like heaven! I slept like a baby! I’m so glad we were spontaneous and that the Royal Sonesta was able to accommodate us for our wedding anniversary! I can’t wait to return for another staycation!

Excellent hotel with wonderful service! Yab at the front desk was incredibly helpful and went above and beyond when there was a mixup with a late check in at the hotel (business travel). Appreciated the professionalism and friendliness of all the staff. Will recommend to others to stay here!

Great location for trips to the capitol and to downtown entertainment. 10-15 walk to UT, easy uber anywhere else. Spacious and well maintained rooms while keeping the character and history of the building. It's my favorite hotel in the area.

The hotel was ok- like many hotels today they use Covid as an excuse to stop cleaning the room. With a three night stay one would expect to get clean towels at least- but no, fir 170 a night we practically had to do laundry and forget about anything else. However, the real problem is that rooms facing 7th street were just across from a very loud and obnoxious disco/nightclub that blared horrible, atrocious music all evening and well past midnight. Impossible to sleep. Ruined a great location. Absolutely awful. Staff did what they could but finally had to threaten to call the police. Stay away - other hotels don’t have this problem. Feel bad because staff are ok- but the nightclub is the pits. Stay away!

Perfect downtown location. Walking distance to the Capital. Jacuzzi and indoor lap pool, maybe a bit too heavily chlorinated. Room was clean. Staff wasn't very motivated to help with the fridge in my room. Never had access to use it the entire four days and three discussions in. The restaurant in-house, had much better service, and great nachos!

Awesome staff...very accommodating. Was a major hic-up...but they fixed it and even acknowledged my birthday with a sign and balloons 🎈... overall can't wait to go back.

This is a historic hotel that has been a part of Austin for a long time. The location is great. It offers easy access to everything in downtown Austin. With that, comes the downside. If you have a car with you, expect to pay handsomely for them to valet your car. The hotel is old and shows it age through wear and tear and lack of updates. The walls are thin, so expect to hear the music and street noises well into the night. You also might hear the couple in the adjacent room arguing over hamburgers somewhere around 3am. The hotel has a lovely bar and lounge with access to the patios overlooking 7th and Congress. Roaring Fork shares the space and is convenient for hotel guests. With so many hotel options in Austin, I don't think I would stay here again.

It was a terrible experience to stay at the Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel. I arrived for check-in at 15.00 (the check-in time) but my room was not ready, and I was downgraded to a smaller and poorer room, without any form of compensation. In addition to being small, the room was also outdated and could really need a renovation. I was here on a business trip together with some colleagues, and we all had a terrible experience with the hotel. The rooms were not particularly clean when we arrived, and one of my colleagues’ got bedsheets with a big coffee stain on them. The hotel also just offered housekeeping on specific requests to the reception. Not even the towels were changed without you contacting the reception with a request, and when they cleaned your room on request, they did so long after you requested it, and did not refill the coffee. Also, when I first got to my room, there was no hand soup there either. Despite its good location, I would recommend everyone to stay away from the Stephen F Austin Royal Sonesta Hotel. The service is extremely poor, the rooms are outdated, the cleaning is poor, and it is extremely overpriced compared to what you get. There are so many other great hotels in Austin that I would rather recommend.
