We went for a bday and the small tatted woman bouncer said my ID was "clearly" a fake, but another bouncer then said it was clearly real?? She was super rude and said that because she's 32 and older than me she knows what a real ID should look like. Clearly NOT since mine was legal lmaooo How many people do you think she has let in that DID have fake IDs? Terrible and extremely CONCERNING in regard to safety. She couldn't even get the flashlight they use to check to work. It was an 18+ event anyways.

Inconsistent with open times, bathrooms are scary. Ive tried for years to support this bar because they are the only one of its kind in the city. Last night I was willing to pay the $17 cover but they did not allow my partner in and instructed him that next time he should not have any drinks before coming there. This is the third time they have rejected him while allowing everyone else in. Never have I heard of a bar (on a street of bars that doesn't open until 10pm) not letting you in. We came from a work Christmas party before coming there, he was not wasted.

You never meet a stranger at Elysium! I have danced my a$$ off there many a night and will be back for more. Thank you for creating such an inclusive and inviting dance cave ❤💥🫀 (Photo is not me but of some lovelies I met in the bathroom on the 20th Anniversary- 10-29-21)

I love Elysium! Every time I visit, I feel very welcome. It's also a good creative space to just be yourself. I met new friends there, and I enjoyed looking at the art all around the venue. All the employees were nice to me and answered any questions. The big restroom there is so cool with the art in there. I also enjoy seeing shows there, since you can be nice and close to the stage. DJs there have all been awesome from my experiences. I would recommend going to Elysium if you want a fun and welcoming scene. Thank you for taking the time to read my review. 😎🖤🦇✨️

Friend was assaulted there multiple times and some of the bartenders don’t know how to make basic drinks.

Great music, fun bands, fun special events. It's been here for a long time but if ur visiting and like goth, industrial, and 80's that they play on Sundays it is wonderful... Takes you back when music was great... For people visiting Austin, it is a wonderful gem!!!. Great, fast bartender service... Enjoy!!!!

Austin's oldest and pretty much only refuge for, alternative, gothic and industrial music. Very fun. Cheap drinks. Try Sunday nights (their 80's night)

life is filled with a lot of choices and decisions: where will we go and spend our time? what things deserve our hard-earned money? where can we find community? what place can feel like a home away from home? for me, ELYSIUM checks all of these boxes and it starts with the staff. from the moment you approach the venue to every interaction with security, ticket staff or bartenders, you just feel welcome. i say this as someone from out-of-town (NJ/NYC) who shows up alone with only sometimes a guarantee of knowing one of the artists or performers; it could be easy to feel invisible, but they don't let you. 🥰 so perhaps the whole reason for going is the talent and there's no shortage of it gracing the elysium stage - from spotlighting insanely local artists to booking dates on national tours, it's always worth it to see who's playing when i'm in town or if i'm seeking a good reason to take a trip. ✈ over the last year, my personal highlights have been the SXSW showcase in march (stoneburner & curse mackey), the chant show in may, the american dream tour in june (eva-x, moris blak & danny blu) and the voltaire and ego likeness shows in july. i've never heard a bad show at elysium, so that also says a lot about the amazing sound and tech staff. 😎 so while you're standing there just taking it in or lounging on a couch and feeling at home, there's a good chance john will come up to you and thank you for coming out...and when you want to look back on those amazing nights, you can thank roi for his photography that truly captures the essence of the performers and the energy of the show. 🤩 all in all, the comfortable layout of the venue, the caliber of performers coming through, the experience and courtesy while you're there and the engagement online is what keeps me coming and recommending this place to others. thank you to all for welcoming me into the alternative ATX community. 🖤

Definitely one of my all time favorite places in Austin. This is maybe the only bar in the city where you can be guaranteed to find industrial, synth, goth, darkwave music. The bartenders are always attentive, quick, and fun. 80s night on Sundays is an all time staple. Most importantly, the sound here is absolutely outstanding. When you go to a show you know is going to be loud the sound should still sound crisp and this place delivers! There have been bands I’ve seen here that sound completely different with the finely tuned sound system they have. Hats off!

My favorite nightspot in Austin for the past 13 years and the ONLY place I frequent in downtown. Historic location, wonderful staff, and the owner treats you like family. There’s something different going on every night and it’s always a fun place to dance, see a live show, or just relax with a drink on the patio. Elysium will always be my 2nd home.

The one of a kind club in Austin that never lets me down. If you’re tired of mainstream clubs and looking for one for the the ‘weirdos’, Elysium is the place!! My great memories in Austin were there.

Great sound and excellent DJ playing 80s music Sunday nights while everyone from Goths to metal heads danced even up on the large stage. The volume was just right to enjoy and hold a conversation without having to yell. Friendly bar tenders offered a wide variety of beers and cocktails at reasonable prices and the patio was perfect for taking a break from the dance floor.

Went for 90s night because I thought it'd be fun, but the club was mostly empty, especially on the dance floor, plus a big portion of the music they played sucked. The pinball machine in the back is not free, even though I think it'd contribute a lot to my boredom if it was. Needless to say, this club was not bumping. I appreciate the lights and fog machine, but it just hides how worn down the place is. Bartenders and other staff are very nice though. Just not worth going to, especially if you're under 21.

I almost always have a great time especially on a Sunday! Drinks are super reasonable and plenty of bartenders means short lines. Great music and plenty of dance floor

Such a fun atmosphere, but poor to nonexistent air conditioning. This could very well just have been a one-off. Stationary fans were set out, but were not effective in circulating sufficient air. Clean bathrooms and affordable drinks.

Great music, drinks and prices! Elysium is a long-standing Austin venue for the alternative scene. They have a wonderfully danceable and well beloved 80s night each Sunday! The owners have invested as much in the community and culture as they have in the business itself. The bartenders really know their stuff, too. I recommend ordering the Blood Shot! YUM!!!

A fun place to let loose. Dance to 80’s, New Wave, Goth Industrial etc depending on which night you choose. Or catch a live show! Drinks are great. Visit more than once and you’ll start to feel like family. Cannot say enough about the hard working staff (Jade!) along with the owner who literally cares & looks out for the community and all his guests. A MUST if you’re visiting Austin!

Sunday 80's night was so fun. All alternative music like The Cure Depeche Mode, etc., reminded me of my college alternative days in late 80"s. Live in Kansas City now, nothing like it. Met some awesome people. Plan on going back in August!

We went to the Priest concert last night, I only went to the bar twice, and didn’t leave an open tab. I closed it every time after ordering. Now I have a $34.20 & a $35.00 charge on my debit card after already showing a $19 & a $20 charges for the originally drinks already ordered. Now I have to deal with getting my money refunded. If it’s even possible now.

Supper fun. Worker the door for an SXSW venue. They had excellent team working. Really organized for the chaos of this week.

This place varies GREATLY depending on what is happening there. Some of the events are really good! Sometimes it's dead in there. It's a big venue and hard to fill. It's got a great spot on the corner of 7th and Red River and they are definitely keeping it weird. A staple for the goth/punk scene, which you can see as you walk by the patio. Bartenders and good, drinks are reasonably priced.

Fun club, they have 80's night on sundays which is fun and definitely a great time! Has a dark, goth feel, perfect for their 80's night! Also a nice, different vibe from the typical 6th street bars. Attracts a fun crowd and has a good layout for socializing and checking out the dance floor. They also have a stage which can be danced on if you wanna show off your skills for everyone to see!

Really cool retro 80/90s bar. Cool vibe and awesome shows! The drinks are ok, but average for a downtown music club. Lines at the bar aren't too bad but you will have a wait usually. They bring in some really awesome bands from my high school days. It was a fun night!
