When
I
put
Pheasants
Nest
Produce
on
my
dining
todo
list,
I
had
no
real
idea
what
sort
of
business
it
was.
You’ll
find
it
in
a
light
industrial
park
in
Picton,
in
a
small
factory
site
with
rustic
signage
front
and
back.
Inside
they’ve
used
recycled
and
repurposed
materials
to
create
a
rustic
farm
shop
vibe
selling
a
great
selection
of
fruit
and
vegetables,
some
(like
Bargo
lettuces)
gathered
from
the
local
area.
As
you
move
deeper
into
the
store
you’ll
find
a
range
Providence
Bakery
breads
and
other
dry
goods
followed
by
fridges
of
cheese,
meat
and
charcuterie.
Expect
to
find
a
great
selection
of
boutique
brands
including
Chop
Shop
Emporium
charcuterie,
Silver
Creek
organic
sourdough
crumpets
and
Monte
Fresco
cheeses.
You’ll
also
find
this
team
making
many
of
their
own
products,
from
piccalilli
to
pickled
beetroot
to
kombucha
to
ketchup.
Another
initiative
to
use
up
produce
they
don’t
sell
is
an
ever-changing
chalkboard
menu
of
dishes
you
can
opt
to
take
away
or
eat
on
stools
and
sandstone
blocks
in
their
grassy
outdoor
area.
We
enjoyed
gooey
Monte
Fresco
ricotta
fritters
($10.50)
that
showed
off
their
basil
and
heirloom
tomatoes
(both
of
which
I
bought
to
take
home).
The
buttermilk
fried
free
range
chook
sanga
($16)
was
also
a
winner,
combining
moist
bird
with
kohlrabi
‘slaw
and
smoked
paprika
mayo.
on
thin
slabs
of
toasted
sourdough.
If
you
worked
in
one
of
the
neighbouring
factories,
you’d
be
thanking
your
lucky
stars
that
well-priced
food
of
this
calibre
(and
a
range
of
sugar-free
drinks)
was
possible.
