The room was clean and the hotel well presented, but beyond that it kind of goes downhill. The wall mounted hair dryer was rather unceremoniously duct taped to the wall with a written note on it saying that it was faulty and to ask reception to borrow one or look in the wardrobe. The wardrobe didn't contain a hair dryer at all, so it would have required a trip to reception. But if the unit is faulty, you would think that they would go out of their way to get it fixed asap or remove it so that it's not an eyesore right? Avoid staying there around public holidays, for a hotel that was fully booked out around New Year's, they had very few staff, to the point that the restaurant was a shambles with tables full of clutter and no one available to clean them or seat new guests for dinner. The bar was also in horrible condition with dirty glasses and half made drinks everywhere. There were also drinks for customer orders just sitting on the bar where someone had ordered and then decided to go to a place with speedier service because it was taking forever. The staff world often just ask how many people for breakfast and then charge everyone the full amount, even if you were after a very basic breakfast, which gets very alarming very quickly when they charge you full adult prices for kids. The pool is gorgeous and refreshing but the deck is falling apart with a lot of the support structural timber frame rotting. Some of the stone lining is also breaking away inside the pool, with my kids and I both receiving multiple cuts on our feet. They have parking, but it's not complimentary as part of your stay, they'll cover part of the cost though, and the boom gate often didn't accept the card that I was issued. Room service was very of a similar standard to the restaurant, with the quality of the food not quite matching the prices being charged and in some cases, meals and drinks that were ordered not even arriving. The laundry facilities are very simple and overpriced given that the dryer does a worse job than hanging your laundry on the balcony, slightly damp clothes after an hour in their dryer required a second run because they were still noticeably damp.

Visited the conference rooms. Was a great clean and tidy facility. Room was a little cold as we had a few less people in the room but otherwise was great. Didn't stay in the hotel or use any other facilities than the conference rooms.

Reception staff great friendly and efficient. Room staff need more training in general cleaning and preparing a room. Breakfast in restaurant very expensive. Location is good close to town and shopping. Very noisy rooms you can here noise from next door rooms and rooms above you. Outdated bathrooms with shower curtains and shower over bath. Not at all good for older people getting in and out of. Pool lounges need padding extremely uncomfortable for any length of time.

I'll start by saying that for Rydges,I was expecting more. The service was good,2 ladies in the restaurant who were always cheerful & smiling. We asked about the onsite Gym & were told there's only 1 treadmill in a room. The lifts don't tell you what floor you're on unless you poke your head out. There was mould in the ceiling, broken tiles & lots of dust. My toilet felt like it was going to fall off the wall. Needs a good revamp. I'm not sure if we got an old room, we were on level 10 so the views of the mountain were nice. Our friends who stayed with us only had their room made up once in 7 nights, they told reception multiple times and in check out but they didn't seem bothered. Over all it just felt really under kept & dated. Would we stay here again? No

Online photos are extremely misleading and not accurate. We checked in on our honeymoon and found the room to be outdated, with the bathroom obviously not being updated since the hotel was originally built. Also arrived to multiple maintenance issues such as the lights not working and the vanity sink leaking. In saying that, the staff were exemplary! Maintenance attended within 15 minutes of making a complaint, the reception staff were more than happy to accommodate a refund and went above and beyond to help us. Would be good for a short stay but definitely not long term such as 4+ nights, only kitchenette facilities provided is a kettle.

Friendly staff despite the enormous amount of pressure through the pandemic is what makes me rate it as good. Iam a frequent travellers around Australia and the world staying in 4 and 5 stars hotel. The maintenance is an issue unfortunately. There is a discrimination between the people in upper and lower level of the building the lower level has been given aver bad tools better to throw them please its an embarrassment. I choose lower level as I've even to Cairns 7 times and seen the best this time just to escape and was the only room I found available. I choose the level based on the view not the very bad quality of the towels that it's better to use them to mop the floor.

Room was what I had booked. Ocean view Double beds. Was spacious enough for 2 and had everything we needed for a 3 night stay. Buffet breakfast was good. Gym was closed until further notice. Understandable with Covid guidelines. Walking distance along water to esplanade, markets and eateries. Would stay here again.

5***** for the staff, service, location, and food. The rooms on floor 6 need a makeover. The AC may be turned on or off but not temperature adjusted. Coffee machine is lacking but makes a long black. More towels needed in room. Bath needs makeover. Carpets need replacing. Beds are okay. Room safes require a trip to office to get a key. Fair price for state of hotel and location.

Fantastic place, location, facilities, staff and value (depending on your budget). I like that they have a gift shop on the foyer, great dining options, a family area by the pool to cook your own meals and unwind. I’ve stayed on both “Seaview” and “Mountain view” and I promise you they’re both have their own beauty, both sunrise and sunsets are breathtaking, staff are delightful, helpful and friendly and have a great knowledge on anything on Cairns and surrounding areas, not a bad choice for either business or leisure, easy walk to the beach front promenade and to nearby local businesses (like car hire and cruises) and restaurants, markets, essential shops and cafe precinct… you’ll enjoy your stay!

Stayed 8 nights and was okay. On the 6th floor which definitely needed a makeover. Needed painting and definitely new carpet.needed extra power points to charge laptop and mobile phone. Had to disconnect bedside lamp to charge mobile phone. Out of 8 nights, had to call reception to clean the room as it was 3pm and not cleaned. Had to wait for the 4pm cleaning crew to start. Annoying as it happened 3 times. But, the staff were excellent and very helpful.

Dated hotel, we did the no service for $10 food voucher but had to ask 3 times for the room to be made up. Breakfast was a standard buffet and the coffee was very good. Easy walk into town along the boardwalk, close to shops and attractions.

Conveniently located near the airport and the city. Amazing service, especially AK the reception gentleman made it very quick and easy for us. Food was amazing, both breakfast buffet and the menu items. Clean rooms and parking facilities available. Swimming pool, tennis courts were really handy and the amazing sunrise from our ocean view room was a bonus! We took the interconnecting rooms with kids and it was really handy. Highly recommended.

The room was a good size with updated decor. The coffee table had water damage to the top and the lounge had some weird bleach mark on it. This affected the overall appearance of the room. The bathroom was really old with a window that doesn’t close. This constantly let hot air in from outside. We had to keep the door closed to stop the hot air flowing through the room. To make it worse, the air conditioning wasn’t functioning properly. We couldn’t get it below 24.2 degrees Celsius. This was reported to management who said they would get it fixed which didn’t happen. The heat in the room was so uncomfortable we had constantly disturbed slept. As an apology management gave us a free breakfast on our last day. The breakfast usual cost is $35, which we thought over priced for what was on offer. The food was also really average. The extent of the mini bar was tea and coffee. The tea tasted revolting, I suspect it was stale. There wasn’t even a complimentary bottle of water in the fridge. The hotel was in a good location about a 10 minute walk to the city. Unfortunately, it was also located next to a construction site which also impacted on our sleep. One night when we came back to the room there were cockroaches running across the floor and under the cupboard door. We managed to squash one. We couldn’t find were the rest went. Our stay at Rydges was very disappointing.

We have stayed here a few times and have to say it has always been a fantastic weekend getaway for us. Being located at the end of the Esplanade is wonderful as you are very close to all the restaurants and activities available without all the noise. The staff are lovely and greet you with a smile every time. The restaurant is very reasonably priced and great quality food - don't forget dessert. We have been considering holding a function and the Functions Manager Michelle has been absolutely wonderful with great customer service and a true interest in making sure it is a successful event.

Great location being a 10 minute walk from anywhere you want to be in Cairns. View was exceptional and the Bathroom superb. Room in general was basic but above average. Hotel is a little tired but very decent. Pool was great for the kids

Older venue, very clean and comfortable. Room was larger and we'll set out. Shower over bath is a bit outdated and could be challenging for older or mobility limited customers. Staff were amazing and helpful at all levels. Breakfasts and meals were excellent. I would recommend this venue and the location on the Esplanade is great.

Overall a great hotel. Down Falls.. The rooms are a little dated, and had some issues with a temperamental television that required us to move rooms to get fixed..(after 3 trips to reception) alas loosing the views of the ocean resulting into looking at an overgrown garden. New room had bathroom issues, using the shower would cause the entire bathroom floor to become wet and VERY slippery. With no bathroom shelf for toiletries. Beds are on rollers.. and WILL move with the slightest bit of effort. Was also some fungus stuff growing on one of the curtains.. Restaurant/Bar ONLY TAKES CARD payments. Good points The pools are clean and well maintained. There is towels supplied for pool use. Tennis rackets are available for guests. Scooter hire at the front door(expensive, get a daily hire for best value) Staff are helpful and friendly. Location is great. Not in the noisy part of the city, but close enough to walk down and enjoy the night-life. Skate Park and volley ball courts are close, but not within earshot. Easily a 7.5-8/10. Look past the small downfalls and this is a great place to spend your evenings and downtime. Owners: updating in-house entertainment TVs,GYM, maybe some pool toys, a refurbished of the bathrooms so they are elderly friendly, or at least don't flood the floor. Curtains and room decore could be updated and refreshed to suit what is viably an a class hotel. This includes adding a microwave and toaster or communal area where items like this can be used between floor level guests. Would stay again, but would also give the room a once over before unpacking, making sure things work and the room is 'safe'

This hotel is a good location right next door to major hospital in cairns. It definitely needs a face lift and room renno's. We booked due to having my mum ill in hospital. When I showed reception photo of our filthy bathroom vent his idea of being helpful was to give me 2 drink vouchers which wasn't relevant to our staying there in the first place. Not happy!!

I loved our stay here. The hotel gave us a green choice on a daily basis to either get the room serviced/ cleaned or receive a $10 food/drink voucher if we didn't need it cleaned on any day. The service was amazing and always someone there to help answer any questions and very friendly staff. .About a 20 min walk distance to shops and wharf where most of the restaurant/ night life is. The resort has a restaurant and room service with no extra fee. There is a great kids park close by for families with young children. This place has tennis courts and 2 pools and cocktails.

Awesome staff, super friendly and helpful. Thoroughly underrated, they deserve all the stars, elephant stamps and trophy's. Management needs to up their game and give housekeeping and maintenance a chop out. Room service is amazing. There's not enough time to do the room service and maintainace required. Vents, high cleaning and touch points need attention. A deep clean is required ,especially given the climate. Room service, staff quality, including housekeeping and maintenance made the difference. I'd stay again based on the customer experience alone. Genuinely attentive, caring and helpful. Give these good people a pay rise, more time to do their tasks and you'll be on a roll. My rating is based mostly on the staff. The location etc was okay, but less than expected.

Booked four nights. Despite asking the room was not serviced once. Very dated and dusty. Marks all over mirrors and doors and walls desperately need painting. The restaurant and bar are very old and the board walk area around the pool is falling a part. Some staff very helpful. Ordered a meal and could tell the person was not listening to our request for steak to be well done. It came rare and due to the number of people complaining about their wait for food we didn't bother. Staff member told people they were understaffed. Not a wonderful experience. The only good thing was the view but you had to stand to look at it due to poorly designed ballustrading blocking view.

Fantastic stay! The staff were very friendly and helpful and provided wonderful service! The buffet breakfast had a great selection and was consistently topped up. The pool was delightful and next time I'll try the very enticing looking cocktail list 🍹I'll definitely be staying again! Thank you team Rydges Esplanade 😊

Our group of 10 had five comfortable rooms. Ocean views from the 7th floor were great, the bed was comfortable, the rooms were quiet, and we could choose between a daily service or a small discount on the days we chose not to have a service. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast in the restaurant, and we also ate in for some evening meals. There are also some comfortable areas for sitting and chatting in the foyer.

Amazing views, good sized room and a comfortable bed. I stayed 5 nights and was really happy with my stay. Room was clean and had a couch, coffee table and desk/table with a couple of chairs. Don't be put-off by all the comments about the hotel needing a refresh. A lot of hotels do need a refresh and a few old fashioned tiles in the bathroom is hardly worth worrying about when the room looks nice and the views are fantastic.

Great staff. Ok under cover parking. Within 100m of both Cairns private hospital & Cairns base. Great views. Walking distance to restaurants among Cairns esplanade. Older building but well maintained. A good 'go too'. Sadly still no wheelchair access to the main pool despite a lot of restructuring done, including removal of the shallow end of the pool. No spar anymore?

The place was well presented, icy cold, well too cold at times when you walk around, but that would be for the humidity to keep out. The rooms were small, but clean and functional. Bathrooms could do with a reno or a really good clean. The restaurant wasn't great value. At $35 per adult for breakfast, it didn't win my daily vote of breakfast value. The beds were comfy, pillows horrible and old with no neck support. The balcony was nice with good views. The pools were cold but refreshing, decking around the pool is in bad need of re-oiling. $15 a day for hotel parking was ridiculous and last of all staff needed to smile more and explain things and how to do's better. We didn't know the hotel had 3 pools till 3 days in. I will be back for sure, but every business has room for improvement and here above are my noticeable flaws in what could be a nearly perfect business model.

The staff are very helpful. No chairs on the balcony but that's really all I can grizzle about. Housekeeping excellent - I dropped a soft drink at 5am and they were there within 5 minutes with a mop and bucket. Rooms made up well and special requests (extra towels, toiletries etc) filled as asked. Pool towels are supplied and you can take them with you on day trips out of the hotel. Handy small clothes line extends from bathroom wall to dry bathing suits etc. Idyllic lagoon pool, beautiful heated spa. Laundry on every floor.

Nice hotel ,well maintained. The lifts could be updated a bit to faster ones. The wait time for the elevators are quite bad. No complaints otherwise. The service is extremely good. They have a big swimming pool , a good restaurant and a tennis court too.ita very close to cairns central and at a good price.

I'll start by saying it was ok for the money. Fairly clean, fairly well presented. Room sizes pretty good. Balconies too small to sit at comfortably and with a super chunky handrail at eye height when you are sitting. We asked for our room to be made up three days in a row. It did not happen once. Phone calls to reception and you are put on hold for 10 minutes. Quicker to go down stairs. Except out of the three lifts available, there are only ever 1 or 2 in use, so it's glacially slow getting up or down some times. Management needs to have a good look at the guest experience at the moment.

  • 5/5 Maria Y. 1 year ago on Google
The location is central, room view is amazing. Rooms are good, except needs to update the bathrooms. Housekeeping service can effortlessly be better. Buffet is good, but NEEDS TO VARY AT LEAST ONE HOT DISH EVERYDAY, like vegetable dish or fish, for guests who stay longer than a week. Breakfast is very nice, but not SALTY MUSHROOMS EVERYDAY. TOO SALTY ! Overall, an amazing hotel and friendly staff. LOVE RYDGES HOTEL and staff.

Reception was fantastic. Friendly warm and helpful. We weren't pleased with the room but were quickly moved to a different room. The room is neat and spacious. Plenty of seating in lobby and restaurant & bar looked good although we ate local. Rates were also great. Deserts was a let down I ordered a Sunday and it was nothing but appalling not worth the $12 they charged. Our TV 's LCD went funny and they replaced it within 10min. Overall really happy with Rydges
