Launceston Respiratory & Sleep Centre

👍 Friendly staff but limited tight parking, also watch out when using the google GPS to find this place as it is a little off, the actual clinic is in the Mantra Charles Hotel at the back. I did upload the true location for it so hopefully they will fix it so other people don't struggle to find it. People often mention days,

GREEDY, IGNORANT, OUT OF TOUCH WITH THE COMMON AUSTRALIAN I have excessive daytime sleepiness and I exhibit traits of shift-work sleep disorder due to work as a musician and also un-medicated ADHD symptoms, (waiting to see psychiatrist for diagnosis and treatment) and I work in late night/early morning hospitality (7pm to 3am.) Modafinil is a medication that improves executive function. I drive an hour each way to work and home and this medication stops me from getting sleep while driving. It has helped improve my concentration and attention span at work and for the first time, I've begun to feel "neurotypical." The PBS indicates this medication for the treatment of narcolepsy and shift work sleep disorder, among other indications. A family physician can only write a prescription for modafinil privately at full cost (approx $90) whilst a respiratory physician can write a prescription as per the pharmaceutical benefits scheme (PBS) for less than $42.50 I was denied a PBS benefit for modafinil. Dr. Chia told me to find another job. That's easy enough for a physician to say on their comfortable salary while many of us Tasmanians are struggling with full-time study and low incomes - working any job we can secure and any hours we can sign up for. My service was not worth the ridiculously high price and now I'm stuck paying $90 for my medication because I have been denied PBS. Perhaps the doctor would rather line his pocket up with the pharmaceutical industry than treat his patients. Very disappointed.

There’s a convoluted voicemail system with numerous options to have to listen to, before the option to “press 4” to make a new appointment. That diverts around until another voicemail tells you they are busy and to leave a message. Then yet another voicemail saying “ I’m sorry the message bank is full” and it drops out. I tried phoning for over a week then located an email address online where I explained their messaging issues. An admin. actually responded within an hour of that email and apologised as she’d been so busy (for over a week?). Finally got an appointment, then needed a follow up three weeks later. Had all the same issues again, after trying to leave a message for two days I tried the option for paying an account and surprisingly a real person answered there! She just laughed when I recounted the phone issues, then tried to put me through for the appointment but no one answered. That woman said she’d pass on my message but no response after another week so I tried the voicemail rigmarole again. Now they’ve included the option to send an email, after all the other prompts. Day one I was cut off again, two days later I actually got to leave a message at the second divert, had no response for days, just tried again and it’s back to diverting around until I’m hung up on. Inept customer service, clearly they don’t want to take on new patients!

Excellent clinic. Friendly staff. The only beef I have is when you make payment, the refund takes days to be returned to bank account, which I find weird, at our local gp clinic, the refund is instant, but not here. I wouldn't care if it was for a small amount but for nearly 300 dollars, it leaves you out of pocket for days. Paid our bill 64 hours ago, 2 and a half days ago and it still has not been submitted to Medicare.
