Walked in during lunch on Wednesday. Food tasted good - taste is as authentic as it can get. The serving is quite a large portion, good for those who have a big appetite. The lor bak is an interesting twist - made with pork belly with a healthy portion of lard. The Vegemite pork ribs taste good. Overall an enjoyable meal. Will surely be back again.

OMG, really bad! Same sauce in every dish, either Lobster instant noodles or fried rice. A brownish MSG - salt combination destroyed every tastebud. Overpriced for the quality of the food and the presentation. Service staff are good, friendly, quick! The only highlight on this occasion. Extra charges for credit card use. By the price asked for the dishes, it is not justified. If you go make sure you drink plenty of water back home!

I normally won’t give 5 stars to any restaurant I’ve not been to a few times - no exception here so they have really worked hard for these stars. This has always been a favourite of mine when visiting Sydney - tonight I think they elevated into my top 5. I had what is without doubt the finest ever dish based on instant noodles in my life - such great balance of flavours and a dish I just couldn’t fault and I’ll crave forever now. No one gets 5 stars without 5 star service - this place has always been super friendly and welcoming - to be honest if the food was average it would still be a great place - but the food is clearly awesome. Well done team - I’ll be back whenever I can !!!

I would rate this as the best Malaysian food in Sydney followed by ‘Mamak’ Dropped by on the long weekend and managed to get a table without booking although it was really packed. Service was really good as well and the atmosphere definitely reminded me of Malaysia as I heard couple of workers & patrons speaking Malay. Service : 10/10 Atmosphere: 9/10 Food: 10/10 Price: 7/10 Portion: 10/10

Amazing food and friendly service - the food is better than I ever had in Malaysia, and I spent a few years there! We got the Tasting Menu option - fair warning, it's huge, especially the mains. We only managed to get halfway through three of the mains and had to get the rest takeaway! The Nasi Lemak in a bite was delicious, and surprisingly captured all the flavours in one spoonful! It came with a small bowl of Laksa soup which was spicy and aromatic, and went perfectly with it. The Kim Ah Nui Kay was also delicious - perfectly cooked with the salty duck egg batter bringing it up another level. The Loh Bak was hands down the best I'd ever had - juicy, crunchy, it had it all! The satay was also cooked perfectly, and they nailed the peanut sauce. For the mains, the Eggciting was pretty good - though admittedly it's not a dish I'd usually get. It was a mix of chicken, duck, and century egg, so quite salty - a good one to have with rice. The Ya Cniau Chye was surprisingly tasty - cooked in coconut milk, it had a surprising depth of flavour and was indulgent without being too strong in flavour. The Assam Barramundi was perfect - the Assam broth was perfectly balanced and the fish still nice and soft. The Rendang chicken was the highlight for me - insane flavour and succulent chicken, I couldn't get enough of it, it was so good! Finally, the desserts the Teh Tahrik Affogato was bonkers - the ice cream was Teh Tahrik flavoured and the coffee was rich and delicious, it all worked perfectly together. The ice kacang was also great - the ice was shaved finely so no crunching on unevenly ground flakes of ice, plus the rose and melon syrup was delicious and they were generous with the toppings - though it was missing the cendol, which was a bummer. We had a great waitress who somehow managed to serve the entire floor with one trainee, and gave us really descriptive explanations of the food we had and her personal favourites and how she liked to eat it. I didn't get her name, but you know who you are - you gave the best service I've had in ages, so thank you! All in all a great experience and well worth it for such delicious food and fantastic service!

Saddens me to write this review because we go to Ho Jiak all the time. Today, I saw a kitchen worker NOT wash his hands with soap after leaving the restroom. I told the front host and hostess. They asked the workers in the kitchen and he admitted to it. I was told this is being reported to management, however it is reckless and careless behavior on the worker. He works with food AND we’re are in a global pandemic. He jeopardized the safety of all the customers. We will not be coming bac. My advice to management is to ensure your workers are better trained for food safety, oh and CHECK ON THEM to ensure they’re washing their hands. The host and hostess escalated the situation quickly and I’m glad they did. It was handled well on their part.

Crazy busy on a Friday night but fast to get in, fast to get served, fast to eat. Efficiency plus! Staff super friendly and helpful. The food was great too. Not over processed. Fresh and delicious. Enough options to satisfy any palate. It’s a short walk from the Chinatown Light Rail stop.

What a delightful dinner experience at Ho Jiak! Come for the food, stay for the vibes and the most amazing friendly staff! We were so full after our meal! Definitely recommend the squid, the satay (chicken and beef), Nasi goreng, Laksa (really go prawn if you can) and omg the sambal! A personal favourite is also the Teh Tarik hot.

Generous serving size, a touch too large for us. They stay true to their authentic root. Small little details that didn't hit our palette 100%, other than that, it's a good Msian restaurant. Would like to give 4.5 star, but no half star on Google. 😂 No complaints of their service. Thumbs up!💪

Transported into Malaysian cuisine and transported into the Malaysian street vibes. It was an unqiue experience and service is great. Booking is not required and the wait is not that long for walk-ins. I would much prefer to share the signature dishes around otherwise if you eat the signature dishes individually, you might get sick of it real fast since portions are a lot. Perfect place to bring a family or your parents to try.

Ho Jiak is one of my all time favourite Malaysian restaurants in Sydney! They serve a wide variety of Malaysian dishes from entrees to desserts! This place is honestly a foodie's dream with flavoursome and generous amounts of home-styled inspired street food dishes.

Had a great weekday evening meal here yesterday. The menu is large and has lots of interesting sounding dishes - it was tough to choose! The food we had was delicious and fresh. My only critique was that it was quite oily, but I think it may have been what we chose. We also had cocktails (which were apparently a new addition to the menu) which were great and only $12 each. The wider drinks menu is also incredibly varied. If you're not a huge fan of spice I'd recommend you ask for it to not be too spicy. Overall it was very enjoyable and will definitely return.

Visited this place with my team for an evening dinner. Malaysian Food was outstanding at this place. Staff was friendly and keen to accommodate a big group with everyone giving suggestions, but overall, many thanks, team Ho Jiak, for making our evening memorable...food could be a bit more spicy..loved it and will be visiting soon with my family and friends 😊

Undoubtedly the best Malaysian food we have ever tried. Amazing char kway teow with the sweetness and smokiness. Staffs were very friendly and kind. Would visit again for our next Sydney trip!

Great Malaysian food! We had the jumbo Nasi Goreng, which is definitely “jumbo” so it’s a good pick if you like Nasi Goreng and are hungry! We also had the vegetarian char Hor Fun which was delicious, well-seasoned and super comforting :) The only con is that it’s a bit pricey but considering how good the food was, it is worth it! (Especially if you use Liven! We had 30% Cashback when we dined there, so it’s a good deal!)

Great lunch here yesterday. Salted duck egg squid followed by Sarawak black and white pepper crab and a couple of servings of man tou. Really fresh and very, very tasty. First time at this place and will definitely return.

Great Malaysian food with authentic taste. Approved by my fellow Malaysian friends! It tastes delicious, service was good but I recommend to make reservation prior to coming here. Quite pricey but overall not bad.

  • 4/5 Monette E. 1 year ago on Google
This place was way too pricey for what we got. BUT everything we ordered was so delicious! We paid over $100 for rice, one appetizer, one noodle dish, and one main. They have mastered the art of running a restaurant and it shows. Many, many spicy dishes, so if you’re not a fan of spice, you might not like it here. Their salted egg yolk dishes are to die for and the squid texture did not feel like squid but chicken—still hoping we didn’t pay almost $40 for a chicken dish. The noodle dish we got seemed like it was from a ramen pack that we got from a grocery store but they mastered how to make it great. Great food, awful prices. Oh! And if it’s a holiday, they’ll add on an extra 15%.

Loved my dish off menu Roast Chicken. 100% recommend and definitely coming back to try more of the menu. Minus one star as two of my friends meal was not very good. Prawn noodle soup was too salty. Laksa Hainan chicken lacked tofu and also gave my friend a stomach ache...

  • 5/5 Jason L. 2 years ago on Google
If you are after good quality Malaysian food this is the place to go! I got takeaway here and the food was still amazingly delicious, I imagine in store would be even better! Please note they are on the pricey side so expect to spend $25 per person minimum.

We only came here for dessert and had Pulut Hitam and Cendol. They were both so authentic and delicious, it really hit home! The teh tarik and bandung were both very accurate, including the cups they were served in. The decor and interior is absolutely breathtaking, feels like I'm in Melaka! Everything from the tables, chairs, flooring, plates, even the lighting fixtures, were all very synonymous with the Peranakan design. I love the staff uniform as well, its so adorable and adds to the culture representation. The place gets extremely crowded during meal times, so make sure to book in advance and allocate enough time for the meal. The food can take a bit longer than usual to arrive during these crowded times. Would love to come back and try the food during my next trip to Sydney!

This place is quite busy all the time, recommend booking beforehand. More seating upstairs, dining space does get loud. Fresh rice noodles, juicy hainan chicken and fried rice with wok hei

  • 4/5 Sipher L. 2 years ago on Google
We had quite a variety of dishes, love the fish skin, hainan chicken, and satay chicken. Quite popular Malaysian restaurant for local but not very authentic, and bit pricy too.

There was a bit of waiting, but I was able to get in after about 15 minutes. It was a little cold during the meal even though it was not a seat near the door... The food was delicious, but it's not enough to endure a long wait. A place to go if you can go right in!

  • 4/5 Jeramie A. 5 months ago on Google
A really good place for Malaysian food. The atmosphere and decor was nice. Service was quick and staff was really friendly. Had the indomie noodles with lobster, mata kuching drink (similar to lychee) and Ais Kachang (shaved with red beans). The noodles were nicely spiced, nice chew and a good amount of meat. Mata kuching was sweet and refreshing. Ais Kachang was also sweet and nice to cool down after eating spicy food.

The staff here are really friendly and accommodating. We had our two year old with us who was being an absolute pest but they were so nice and helpful. I got the crispy chicken and rice which came with gravy. It was really good. Lots to choose from on the menu, great descriptions of the food with pictures as well. Plenty of seating inside with high chairs for children provided, as well as child safe cutlery, plates and cups. Gets busy quickly so definitely get in early. When we arrived there were a few tables still but when we left, the line was out the door.

The food here is so good!! It always full of customers whenever I visit there 🥹🥹 The space is a little bit tiny but warm. They serve the food fast though they are busy💪 Nasi Goreng Pattaya is super spicy and delicious!! There’s a lot of ingredients inside!! I love it so much✨✨ Especially recommended Salty Fish Skin!!! It’s like a MUST ORDER DISH!! Super crispy and tasty!!!

  • 5/5 Kezia Hsu (. 5 months ago on Google
All three dishes we ordered is nice. Among those, the chicken is really valueable. If you can't afford too spicy, you can ask them to change.

  • 4/5 Sathyan D. 6 months ago on Google
As always, Ho Jiak has never disappointed when it comes to providing the authentic Malaysian flavours, yet also brings a twist to their dishes. We had the Hainan Chicken rice, Mixed Satay consisting of Chicken and Wagyu skewers, Kuey Teow Goreng Pattaya. The Chicken rice was absolutely delicious that we ordered a second serving. The staff are friendly and very welcoming and the service is of a high standard too. Despite the increase in pricing, it is still worth it if you are missing a taste of Malaysia.

  • 2/5 Honest R. 6 months ago on Google
The menu is quite expensive especially if you want to grab a quick meal for lunch. Most items on the menu are $25+ and flavours are quite average. I've had better Malaysian food from the food court. I know cost of living has risen significantly, but for the portion sizes we got it's not worth it. Sorry I won't be back.

  • 5/5 T S. 5 months ago on Google
Wow, phenomenal. One of the best restaurants I have ever been to. Service is a flawless, atmosphere is great and the food is a show stopper. The Nasi Lemak with Beef Rendang was by far the best I have ever tasted and the chicken satay was perfect. Prices are a little higher than other spots but the quality, atmosphere and service certainly justify it. Will definitely be back

  • 5/5 Lorraine F. 5 months ago on Google
A good Malaysian Restaurant choice. Easily accessible and have plenty of seats (ground floor and second floor). Price point, pretty good for the size and the taste. Some of their soup taste a little bland for me, but most of the food are great. They have pretty good and quick service as well as cleanliness. My favorite is the salted egg wings, presented beautifully and taste delicious.

  • 3/5 Daniel L. 1 year ago on Google
Very authentic Malaysian food. A little bit expensive, with no real justification in my opinion. We had a soup with chicken, beans with mince and the pastry with vegetables. The beans was the best dish, the others were fine as well, nothing was amazing or worth coming back for. Combined with the price it was just an OK experience.

  • 4/5 Shenny P. 10 months ago on Google
Delicious hearty food. Loved the drinks and food. The Nasi Lemak with the beef is scrumptious. The Mi Goreng is very spicy but flavoursome. We also ordered the chicken skewers which was great. Expensive for Malaysian food though.

  • 5/5 Kyle L. 10 months ago on Google
The deco reminds me of Singapore. Friendly staff, very polite and respectful. I ordered a Hainan Chicken rice and it was really nice. The chicken was tender. The sauce was well balanced. Rice was a tiny bit dry, but overall was delicious. Recommended!

  • 5/5 Ishak I. 9 months ago on Google
Had braised pork belly, char kway teow, and veggie laksa. All amazing. Braised pork belly is extremely tender, not just tasty but also fragrant. Char kway teow had just enough wok hei/charryness. Laksa's broth is heavenly. All portioned generously, especially considering the price. Had a to wait a queue but not too bad. Do come here earlier esp. at weekends.

All the way from Melbourne but this is my must to go when I’m in Sydney . Salted egg crab was a 💥, highly recommend everyone to try . The girls here are so friendly welcoming. They also open very late that is a bonus . Other dish we ordered was also delicious

  • 5/5 Vanessa K. 10 months ago on Google
I love all the Ho Jiak restaurants and their Haymarket branch is definitely my favourite one. I love the ambience of the restaurant, it reminds me of Malaysia. The food is absolutely delicious, I'm obsessed with their roast chicken with dry egg noodle, the Malaysian style roast chicken is so succulent, flavoursome and delicious. The service is great too.

  • 4/5 Ed Y. 9 months ago on Google
Food is very decent. I liked the Char Kway Teow is really good and flavorful as is the Laksa as they both have very strong flavors. Hainan chicken is alright but I wouldn't say it's better than other places. I've had more tender Hainan chicken before so I have a high bar for that. Satay chicken is good but most places are decent. I do not recommend chili prawns at all as not only is the sauce so so but also the prawns are way over fried so they lost the natural sweetness of prawns. Overall the worst food is the fried chicken wings as it just doesn't taste better than even Wingstop so no point to order that. I made a reservation online which I thought is kinda weird that they have strict cancellation rules when it's not even full but maybe because I went during lunch time. Overall I thought the service was average but nothing I didn't like. The interior is kinda old school so it gives a older southeast vibe that was probably popular awhile ago. It's not a romantic setting but cool enough that you can probably bring a second or third date. I'm kinda glad that I couldn't order chili crab as it needs a 24 hour reservation given the bad job they did on chili prawns but maybe it was just a fluke.

  • 5/5 Ian B. 3 years ago on Google
Tasty, tasty, tasty food. We had Chilli Crab and Pepper crab with the fried buns....yumo....Chilli crab is better than the pepper crab. Every dish we had we so tasty and so yummy, even the good old Chicken Satay was so good. When you can get the basics right, nothing else matters and they really do have the basic right and was a really enjoyable evening......The service was OK, very friendly and very helpful, but we did have a trainee and there were a few minor slip ups...nothing that would stop me from going back.....as the food was so good!

Booked as a VIP member to claim my free Malaysian dessert platter. Upon arriving we were told that the dessert platter was not available and was offered a jumbo teh tarik instead, which was disappointing. I asked for a second glass so that I could split the drink with my friend in a hygienic way (given COVID-19) but was told that we couldn't get a second glass, and they offered us a second straw instead (which defeats the purpose of trying to be COVID-cautious). Other diners were also a lot closer than 1.5m apart. Overall a very disappointing experience as I've been to the this store a few times and have had great experiences.

Really amazing food, incredibly generous portions. I felt for the quality of the food and the portions we received, it was very well priced. They were a little quick to hurry us out at a fairly early time (Well before their official closing) as they had decided to close early. Really glad to see they had a mechanism to sign in for Covid tracking, most restaurants haven't taken this very seriously so I was glad to see them do it and enforce it.

Not a fan of their upstairs seating area. Quite cramped and not very classy, especially when considering that they are on the pricier end of dining out. Was also rushed through the meal. Barely got to eat our desserts. I get that reservations are only for an hour and a half but its not really possible to enjoy the meal in that time especially if dinner is a social catch up. You are kicked out by staff as soon the clock hits an hour and a half. Even if you haven't finished eating. So not really an enjoyable experience, but their food is quite tasty.

Great first time dining at Ho Jiak. All the dishes that I ordered were very good portion size and full of flavor. I enjoyed the king prawn chao kway teow the most. The manager on duty can't handle the problems properly, he has no such skill to be a manager. He couldn't explain the issue in our face, he went to the back and talk to the chef. However, the issue wasn't solve AT ALL WE LEFT IN ANGER. the manager on duty was at Monday night 13th July, can you please do something about it. Ho jak marketing management. WE HAD A BAD NIGHT. The issue was, The trainee made a mistake on charging us with the wrong bill, without a staff supervising her. On the other hand, the manager on duty was blaming us "that's us mistake" Without a proper solution to us, he was on the phone the whole time, properly testing his "lover" on duty. That's what he does. He wasn't at the venue when he's duty, we have to wait for him to come from somewhere. WE HAVE THE RIGHT AS A CONSUMER WE ARE VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS RESTAURANT.

Love love love this place. We came here with a large group of 8 and it was super enjoyable! The KFC curry chicken was delicious and so was the crispy fish skin. Nothing was a disappointment. My friend raved about their sambal and ended up taking some home. Fun place to go and eat in a large group. There a lot of dishes to try, anything with salted egg yolk is a winner. Would definitely recommend.

Ho Jiak is my favourite restuarant in the city! Everything on the menu is amazing street food done to absolute perfection and with awesome authentic additions on top. Have been here about 6 times now and everyone I have brought here has left with a smile on their face and a happy tummy :) Really great customer service and knowledge of the menu, the staff explained what we could and couldnt buy when dealing with food allergies also which was great. The timing of food coming out hot and steaming was awesome also :) Thanks Ho Jiak !

Love this place - ambiance, service, and most importantly, the food! No dud dishes, we would walk over hot coals to get to the beef rendang, and generous portions means we have had some to take home on both visits. Also loved the beans with pork mince, and the pimped maggi noodles. Maybe showing my ignorance of the cuisine, but icing on the cake would be some rotis to mop up the gorgeous rendang... we will be back, and will also be testing out the Town Hall outpost!

So so delish! We will be back. We had the mudcrab in chilli sauce ??. Live crab!!! And the KFC in rendang sauce. They lived up to the hype! It was our first time there. They were friendly and super efficient for a busy restaurant. Will be back to try their other dishes. The menu was extensive. We finally came back! This time for the Indo Mie Goreng Truffle.

The food lived up to the expectations but not of outstanding quality. The sign-in was so intrusive - you'd have to download, scan then log on the site to then declare your email and phone number and sign up before you could enter the restaurant. Also no social distancing rules applied as diners were put to sit too close to one another - less than an arm's length. No sanitizer was in sight, either, and pricewise it's way more than what you would pay for 'street food' as it is advertised on the website.

Modern fusion twist to traditional Chinese Malaysian cuisine. Price on the steep side.

Great Food, Friendly Staff, really good at upholding social distancing and Covid safe rules so everyone has a great and safe experience. Favourites are KFC Crispy Rendang, Tau Eu Bak and Crispy Hainan Chicken Rice. See if you can get a table up stairs

I came because I heard others it's a place with trying, along with the amex shop small. I was disappointed. I ordered the chicken and prawn laksa and for the price I'd expect King prawns, but instead I got this mini-medium prawns. On top of that, the amount of chicken and prawns was way below average. The was at most 3 of these prawns and very little chicken. Flavour of the soup was average. Pretty much an overpriced, average laksa. I won't be coming again to try other food. Just isn't worth it (esp for lunch).
