Management charges $250 per week in a dorm room if you have had covid, or $350 per week if you have not already had covid. Discrimination at it's best. A manager sleeps in a room right next to the kitchen and after 10pm the manager hates guests being in the kitchen so she calls the night manager to kick guests out of the kitchen when she hears guests in the kitchen. Management doesn't tell you this when you check in. Management informed NSW Health of the name's and phone numbers of it's guests who were staying in rooms next door, not in the same room, to a guest who had covid and those guests were then deemed to be close contacts of a person who had covid so they were then forced by NSW Health to go into a government run quarantine facility in Lismore for 3 days. The guests are backpackers, not Australian's, so management felt that they could get away with treating them poorly. At 10pm guests are told by a night manager to either leave the premises or to go to their rooms because management wants the hostel to be silent after 10pm. This rule is enforced even when it's raining so you can't even sit outside in the undercover BBQ area in the garden after 10pm when it's raining and there's nowhere else to go. Management doesn't tell you this on it's website or when you check in. During the Christmas and New Years period rent went up to $600+ per week in a 10 bed dorm. Long term guests who kept the hostel afloat during lockdowns were not given any discount or special rates so most of the long term guests left the hostel before Christmas. I worked as a night manager at this hostel and i visited this hostel for 8 years because it used to be awesome, but now it's a very strictly run place and management is overbearing and treats it's guests, especially backpackers, like they're walking dollar signs.

10/10 experience. Free yoga, free bike and surf rentals, and fun events to meet people. I was able to make some good friends on my holiday. In the cutest quiet neighborhood, but still close to town. Sam and Augustina were super helpful and gave great recommendations for where to eat and work in town! I can't wait to stay here again.

Lovely beachside Hostel (with the beach just across the road), with an hourly shuttle running to and from surf town. The communal kitchens were bright, loud and clean. The dorm had a comfy bed and an amazing shower with a small picnic spot out the back. The staff and vibe here was friendly and very laid back. Everyone was so welcoming. I will definitely stay here again!

Amazing amazing amazing. I prefer this hostel to any hotel when I'm in the area. The hostel has a free shuttle bus, bathroom, kitchen and laundry facilities, bicycle, SUP and Surfboard hire, free yoga and a cafe/bar next door! Best value for money. The place itself is also great and modern AND beach front location. My partner and I had a private room with ensuite, our only negative would be that the room had nowhere to put belongings so it was on the floor. But otherwise perfect and we would recommend to everyone who goes to Byron.

Thank you Pete and augustina for accommodating us. Wish we could have stayed longer! Way better in all ways. Wish the noisy air blowers were not necessary But so nice to not bump my head on bunk beds! So nice to not worry about cutlery and to sit down upstairs at tables!

Unfortunately as nice as the staff were and the room being nicely kept and clean (considering the price), my two nights staying in room 503 essentially ruined my weekend in Byron. The queen mattress was genuinely horrible to sleep on and the pillows were even worse causing me being barely able to sleep. If you're looking for somewhere comfortable to sleep, steer clear of room 503 atleast, can't hope the other rooms have much better mattresses...

I've stayed at a lot of backpackers before and this one is one of the best. Directly across from a beautiful quiet beach and in between two great restaurants. Friendly staff full of information about Byron. Travel bus to and from the town centre. Rooms are great for the price. Kitchen and toilets are always clean and apparently they are upgrading and installing a pool. When I stay in Byron this is were I sleep.

I’m absolutely in love with this hostel from the first moment I arrived and Agustina received me very very kindly, until my last day! You have all you need there, and the beach in front of the hostel. Too chill and lovely place Of course I will back

I recently stayed at the Wake-Up Hostel in Byron Bay and I have to say, it was an absolutely wonderful experience! From the moment I arrived, I was greeted with warm hospitality and friendly smiles from the staffand other backpackers. The hostel itself is charming and cozy, with a relaxed atmosphere that made me feel right at home. The facilities were top-notch, with clean and comfortable rooms, a well-stocked kitchen, and plenty of communal spaces to relax and hang out in. And when I ran into a bit of trouble with my laundry (I was 1 dollar short for the washing machine), Augustina was there to save the day! Augustina was very kind and lovely, lending me the extra dollar I needed and even offering some helpful tips for things to do and see in the area. Overall, I would highly recommend the Wake-Up Hostel to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming place to stay in Byron Bay. With its friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and excellent facilities, it's truly a gem of a hostel.

One of my favourite hostels in Australia. Super clean, big rooms, nice ensuite bathroom & balcony. The kitchen is clean & it's a great place to meet people. Right on the beach. The free barbecue, wine and cheese night and the lighthouse tour were great. Good way to meet people. The only downside is that it's a bit far away from town, but the walk isn't too bad and there is a free shuttle every hour. But for going out, it's probably better to stay somewhere more central. Overall, I'd really recommend staying here if you're looking to stay in a clean place with a chill vibe

We absolutely loved our stay at this hostel. It was extremely clean, and had a great vibe. Nice kitchen to cook in and Lots of seating space in the kitchen and outdoor common area. The rooms are spacious and the beds were comfortable. We took full advantage of the hourly shuttle going in and out of town, and also rented the bikes and surf boards! Will stay again

Very clean and well laid out. Good air con and facilities. Loved the daily free yoga although second day the mats stunk really bad! Had nice vibe and great location right off the beach and shuttle buses every hour to the town center. I hired a bike which was easy and great fun- I think it’s slightly on the pricey side especially for a hostel but I enjoyed myself and would recommend.

This hostel is exceptional - it's immaculately clean and impeccably managed. It's situated in an ideal location for both surfing and exploring the town, with a convenient hourly bus service. The reception staff are extremely knowledgeable, professional, and always ready to assist with anything you need. All in all, it's a flawless hostel that I highly recommend for your stay.

One of the best experiences in hostels so far. The setting is magical and tropical. The kitchen is clean and so are the rooms and the bathrooms. Surf boards are free and bikes are available for renting. There are also free yoga classes -recommended- and free transportation to the town, which is a 30 min. walk otherwise. I would recommend it.

I have mixed feelings about this hostel, but overall I'd say it's a pretty nice hostel. Location was just steps from the beach, but a bit of a walk to town. Very clean kitchen and rooms. When checking in, the staff were friendly and helpful, but upon checking out this wasn't the vibe. They had made mistakes on their end, and were quite hostile. I ended up paying more than what was initially told me and left.

I loved my time here! Amazing facilities and incredible staff, some of whom are still some of my closest friends in Australia. I especially appreciate Holea after she graciously drove my friend and me to the lighthouse for sunrise. Could not recommend this place enough!

Beautiful location with friendly staff! The shuttle bus into town is super convenient (or bike hire) if you want to rest up the legs after many beach walks! Had a blast staying here in a girls only room and was delighted with the cleanliness and amenities available.

Such a lovely and clean hostel to stay. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. Made good friends with Holly and phoebe 🤩 absolute babes that made me feel part of the hostel family.

Amazing hostel. Clean, big rooms, big kitchen, non party hostel. Stayed for a week, the other guests where nice but to themselves with there own little groups. A lot less of a surfing hostel than I thought it was going to be. Only met 2 people in the whole hostel that tried surfing for the first time while I was there. So didn't meet anyone to go surfing with.

Good rooms and nice to have a bathroom linked to the room. They organize a bunch of nice activities. Friendly staff. Wifi worked well. We loved having a drink at the bar in the pool area! Overall good vibes.

Great place to stay in Byron. Loved my time here, although it’s a bit out of town the shuttle is great and the walk is very enjoyable. The pool area just opened and looked great, only downside is not being able to have your morning coffee or breakky at the tables next to the pool. They’re very strict about all their rules.

Such a nice hostel; super social, the rooms are nice and clean, the staff is lovely and it's right by the beach! They are located a short walk outside of town but they also offer a shuttle bus.

Such a nice hostel! Rooms are spacious & clean. Only negative was that the wifi barely worked. It’s a 20ish minute walk to the city center but they have a shuttle that runs every hour !

I really liked the accommodation, in my opinion it is the best hostel on the whole east coast. The kitchen, the bathrooms and the private bed are great and you can't complain. We also got to know the staff, her name was Maya and she was very helpful and approachable. You had the feeling that she was not annoyed by her work all day long and always had an open ear for the guests. I can only recommend the hostel!

My favourite hostel on the east coast so far!! Social, clean & great vibes. A bit far from centre but they do an hourly shuttle bus.

Best hostel in the world! Amazing free yoga, free rental of bikes, boards and games. Staff is very accommodating and the location is the best, you are in front of the beach

Had a great stay here at Wake Up Byron. Beautiful location and lovely staff. I wanted to give a shout out to Augustina working the front desk. She really made us feel at home and gave us so much great advice for the area. Definitely coming back.

We were very impressed with the family cabins. A small table would be appreciated inside but everything else made the stay one of the best wee had anywhere.

My friend recommended here so I decided to stay there. Eventually I extended my stay for 3 nights. Staffs are kind, room is clean enough, and each bed has power and light. Night time is about noisy because there is restaurant next to this hostel. You can hire bikes, Sup boards and surfing boards. I can’t do any marine sports so I just borrowed the bike.

Last night I spoke with a lovely person who works or perhaps owns the hostel. She was so helpful in dealing with an unexpected travel scenario. As a result, I can only give great feedback.

I enjoyed my stay here. The bed was really comfortable. I had a corner room which was spacious and had windows on two sides as well as a verandah. The bathroom was compact but clean. The air-conditioning was good. The staff were great. I like the location (away from the busier centre of town) and close to the beach. I would stay here again. It's down to earth, no pretension, clean and practical.

Rooms were clean, air conditioned and affordable. The staff at reception were friendly and made us feel very welcome. We LOVED the location- 15 min walk along the beach to Byron main beach plus they do free paddle board and bike hire. We also joined a free visit of the lighthouse for sunrise. There are so many free activities included in the price- such a great stay! Definitely recommend.

  • 3/5 Laura B. 2 years ago on Google
Overpriced private ensuite rooms. Stiff bed, no fridge, no cups or cutlery, very basic for $190 for the night. I could imagine it would be a great place to stay in dorms. They did offer free ice and a ride to and from town, plus free bikes etc. so my rating is purely for the private ensuite room we had and the price. $100 max is reasonable.

I was pleasantly surprised with Wake-up Byron. Lovely quiet location next to the beach… and away from the busy schoolis buzz of the city centre. The staff are very friendly and welcoming (big shout out to hard working Quintin). Great vibe… and best of all -free use of cruiser bikes and SUP🥰. I hope to stay here again!

Hostel was clean, loads of space and very socialable. Can rent surfboards and hire bikes, reception has sun cream and bug spray. Staff were lovely, had things going on in the hostel everyday. Right on the beach, had a really nice surfer vibe to it. Only thing is the sand goes everywhere in the rooms, toilets etc but cant be helped when you’re so close to the beach! Would 100% stay again, we loved it there

Maria是我遇過最友善的人!!! Maria is the best person at wake up! She drives the bus like a king and is kind and charismatic, for work or pleasure the hospitality is 10 stars, the others a good too I think.

Stayed at wake up Byron bay for 4 nights and it was a great hostel. Well priced, very clean and great activities. Jan in particular was a great member of staff and made my stay even better. Thank you to wake up for an incredible stay.

4.5 stars. We ended up here for almost a month due to border closures, with a 4 year old. We rented one of the large rooms, which was very nice, spacious, and set within tropical gardens. The only issue I had (and a reason why we left) was getting used to walking to the kitchen for a fridge. The room is huge so it would be great if they could put a small fridge and toaster in the room. Overall though we loved it, we liked the staff, the vibe and we are already missing the place!

Carolin and Agustina are the bests workers from all Byron Bay, they give me an EXCELLENT SERVICE !! 😁😁😁 also you can have a free surf board. This hostel is the best of Byron Bay. Also, my bedroom has a Balcony, i haven’t seen that in all Byron Bay. Excellent service and very nice Staff!! 😃😃😃😃😃

I recommend you 100%. The staff is incredibly nice. I wasn't staying with them and yet they let me use their common areas without any worries, I was able to take their bus for free to go to the city. Everything is very nice inside and very quiet. I know where to come next time I come to Byron Bay

I absolutely loved my stay at Wake Up! This hostel is one of the best I’ve been to! They upgraded my 10 bed room to 6 for Christmas and put on several Christmas activities for you to meet people/ to not be alone over the holiday season. They provide free activities that brings people together (definitely how I met most of my friends here) such as daily yoga, free surfboard hire, cheese and wine night, beer pong etc. They also provide a free shuttle bus that goes hourly to the centre of Byron and also from the centre back to the hostel (which is great when you arrive with all your luggage.) You see the staff cleaning your room and facilities every day and the hostel is very clean. You may doubt the location as it’s a little further from the centre but I think this is why it’s made making friends here very easy and also, with the free shuttle bus, it’s easy to get to the centre if you want to look around/ shop etc. Perfect for solo travellers looking for friends! I would 100% come back here again!
