The best hostel I've stayed in in Australia! I was here for 7 months to complete my farm work for my visa. Bec and Adam are fantastic and always around to help whatever you need. Lovely living area with TV, Netflix and bar to socialise. I came as a solo backpacker and really loved the homely vibe at Cambrai :)

This is the best hostel to start your adventure in Australia!!! Bec and Adam are the best owners that you can find, they treated me like family from the first day. They are always there to help you for everything and to take you on beautiful adventures. It’s also the perfect place to make new friends from all over the world! I had a fantastic stay in this place and I always have wonderful memories about it.

From the first day I arrived Bec & Adam made me feel so welcome. It didn’t take long for me to be working as the next day they had already arranged a job for me. I had reservations about working at a dairy but everyone who worked there was also just as welcoming. I’ve had a great time living at the hostel and doing my farm days. Anyone looking to do theirs you’d be a fool to not consider Cambrai. All facilities were kept clean and tidy every single day without fail. Maffra is also a lovely little town with good coffee shops, brewery and sporty. All the locals are friendly and keen for a beer with you too. Beautiful hikes and water holes aren’t far away either. Bec & Adam are genuine, honest, amazing people whose hard work has created this amazing place to stay.

If you’re looking to complete your regional work and/or save money then Cambrai Hostel is the best place to do so- we stayed here for just under 4 months and loved every second of it! Bec and Adam go above and beyond for everyone who stays here and will help you find work as soon as you arrive- we had a job on a dairy farm within 2 days of arriving with other people getting jobs even sooner. The jobs are found through contacts of Bec and Adam so they can ensure everything is above board and you’re treated well (unlike other working hostels we’ve heard of in Australia). Cambrai Hostel is the perfect place to complete your regional work whilst also making great friends and memories. They keep in touch with everyone who stays and look after you like family. A home away from home.

Stayed in Cambrai for 5 months and loved every second! Adam and Bec are so kind and welcoming always looking out for you. Within a couple of days they found me a job and provide cars if you need transport. The hostel is very clean and super social. There is regular outings organised, my favourite was going to see the football in Melbourne with the whole hostel. I made friends and memories here that I will remember forever. I definitely recommend Cambrai as an excellent working hostel.

Cambrai is the highest rated working hostel I've seen in Australia, and it's for good reason. The owners, Bec & Adam, treat it more like a home than a business, and they put in lots of effort to make sure everyone feels welcome. Bec & Adam of course don't control the farms, but there is never a lack of communication with employers and (unlike most other working hostels) they don't overfill bed spaces, so everyone walks straight into a job. All transport is provided, although it's worth noting a driving licence will give you more working opportunities. Not all jobs are created equal, and I was one of the lucky ones who got work on a dairy farm that suited me well, but if you have concerns you will always be heard by Bec & Adam, unlike other places where they seem to punish people for feeling unsuited. The hostel is cleaned regularly and never feels run-down, there's free entertainment (pool, darts, TVs with streaming) as well as a licensed bar, and a big plus is the supermarkets right next to the hostel. WiFi of course isn't perfect, but it's as good as you can get in a shared hostel. There are enough cookers and showers that you won't be constantly waiting to use anything, and even personal food boxes and fridge bags are provided to stop things getting cramped. People are very keen to come to Cambrai, so if you know roughly when you want to arrive you should probably ring up to join the waiting list. Loved my 2 months here, could have easily managed 88 days+ if I had more time. Cheers Bec and Adam!

Where do I even begin. Spent the most wonderful 6 months here and enjoyed every single moment. Bec and Adam constantly go above and beyond to help the backpackers. From providing farm clothes and vehicles, to hostel trips which will never be forgotten. Received the most heartfelt welcome and instantly felt like part of the family when I arrived. Made friends and memories which will last a lifetime. Could not recommend Cambrai enough. Less of a hostel and more of a Home❤️

Cambrai hostel deserves much more than 5 stars, it really is the best working hostel out there! All credit goes to Bec and Adam for all the hard work they put into it to make it an exceptional place for backpackers looking to complete their farm days. Within a few days I was working and stayed for 9 whole months, using the hostel cars they so kindly provide. You can even find work clothes and boots so you don’t have to buy everything yourself! The hostel itself has a real homely feel which is great to come back to after an hard days work, and there’s always great entertainment in the garden on the weekends especially over the summer months! The rooms are spacious and clean and there’s even a couple of chilled living rooms, not forgetting the roaring fire which was a gods send over winter! Bec and Adam go above and beyond to welcome and help you with anything and everything so I cannot thank them enough. 🫶🏼

By far the best hostel I’ve stayed at in Australia. If you are looking to do your regional work then there’s no better place than Cambrai. Bec and Adam do everything they can to look after you and find you work, and really make you feel like part of their family. After a long day at work it’s a great feeling knowing you’re going back to the hostel and there’s a reason why it’s so popular and also why so many people stay longer than their 88 days. Thanks for everything ❤️

Had an amazing 4 months stay at Cambrai hostel Bec and Adam are so supportive and found my farming job straight away which helped me massively to complete my 88 days. Living here i was made to feel part of the family and lots of memories and friends was made 😀👍😀 Can't thank Bec and Adam enough. Definitely recommend

Probably one of the best hostel you can stay at in Australia, where you can feel at home so far from home. Thanks to Bec and Adam who are always there, doing their best to help find a work or anything else. I’ve been able to complete my 88 days there and I met some great people for sure! An experience that I never forget.

You will be hard pressed to find any working hostel better than this. This is the type of place you will initially arrive at thinking why do people love it so much and stay so long, until you’ve found yourself there 3 months later, often staying longer because you have relationships that are on a family level! Farm work will be your fondest memory with Bec, Adam and all the rest of the friends you’ll meet.

I don’t even know where to start with describing Cambrai - it’s the most homely & welcoming place I’ve ever been! Bec & Adam are phenomenal… so genuinely caring and so much fun. I made friends for life in those I worked & lived with as well as with Bec & Adam. Always so many events on at the hostel that it’s a very social-able place to be. Rooms are spacious & the hostel itself is kept so clean and feels homely - it’s a 10/10 place. I should know, I planned to stay a few weeks and stayed for 5 & a half months! Would recommend it to anyone & would happily come back again.

We came to do our 88 days and ended up staying almost 7 months! The hostel is super nice, large rooms, clean bathrooms and organized kitchen. They help you with work and if you don't have a car you can rent a really cheap one. Bec and Adam the owners, what to say, they will always be there for you whatever your problem is, they are those kind of people who leave a mark on your life. Very grateful to them for allowing me and my girlfriend to live this experience! We will definitely be back!

I really enjoyed my stay at Cambrai hostel, I stayed for 4 months despite just originally planning to stay for 3 months to complete my farm work. This is due to the friendly and fun atmosphere at the hostel mainly due to Bec and Adam being so kind and welcoming but also the other guests in the hostel who I have created memories that will stay with me for a long time. I would recommend this hostel to anyone looking to complete their farm work or even just wanting to experience the more rural type of living.

Nobody can have a bad time here. It's a lovely place, with amazing people! Adam and Bec are here to help you with absolutely everything, you arrive to start working immediately and complete your days. If you don't have a car they have some. They even provide you with clothing if you need it! You will make friends and have incredible moments, so much so that it will be difficult for you to leave here. Happy to have spent 6 months here 🌈✨🪷❤️‍🔥

This hostel is one of the best hostels in Australia. Bec and Adam take every person into their home with open arms and make you feel a part of their family. They organise your job to complete your 88 days, which is quick and hassle free. Any time you need anything they’re there for you in a heart beat, I can’t recommend a better place to stay or better people to run it. It’s a privilege to have stayed here and met some amazing people along the way! A chapter in the book that I’ll never forget.

I spent over 3 months here at this hostel and had a great time. Bec & Adam organised my 88 days farm work and I started working on my second day here. The hostel is clean, good facilities and there’s a great atmosphere. Bec and Adam go above and beyond for the backpackers and I feel very fortunate to have stayed in Cambrai!

This is the best hostel I could have possibly found to help me complete my regional work. Bec and Adam are amazing at finding you the right work as they have loads of contact with local farms and farmers, not only that but they are the nicest pair who make you feel extremely welcome from the day you arrive. I couldn’t be more thankful to have found this place, travelling solo can feel very isolating at times especially in rural areas, but this hostel became a home away from home and was everything I needed, the best compliment I can give is, I didn’t want to leave. I wish I could take this hostel and Adam and Bec with me on my travels. I have made a tonne memories and close friendships here. Even when the work is hard, coming back to the hostel was always my favourite part of the day, I couldn’t recommend this hostel more.

Best hostel I have ever stayed in. Bec and Adam are really nice and helpful. Went out of their way to accommodate us on short notice and also got us a full time job on a farm. The location is great and it’s a great hostel for socialising. Lovely beer garden with entertainment on every weekend. Would highly recommend staying here.

No doubt the best hostel to start your working holiday. Owners are always happy and will try their best to help you in every aspect; be it administrative or finding a job. As an asian, this was the first hostel in Australia where there is actually a rice cooker! Location is superb in Maffra with two supermarkets within walking distance.

This is the best hostel experience of my life by far. Bec and Adam are wonderful hosts. They go above and beyond to help you find work and they helped me out soooo many times when I was in a jam. The hostel is very clean and there’s a great ambiance. Big kitchen, rooms are comfortable, and there’s a bar that’s more affordable than you will find anywhere else. Live music on the weekends when the weather permits. Lots of great spots to day trip to as well. Stayed for eight months and fell in love with the girl of my dreams here; maybe you will too!

The hostel is great as well! The location is nice, it is very clean and the rooms are big enough. It isn’t a hostel it feels more like a 2nd home :)

I stayed at Cambrai Hostel for 6 months to do my farm work. It is the best hostel I’ve stayed in since being in Australia. The owners, Bec and Adam are amazing and made me feel so comfortable. They sorted me out with a job within a few days of arriving. The cleaner Jackie is so friendly and did an amazing job of keeping the hostel clean and tidy. Great location with Woolies next door and coffee shops etc close by. You’ll be made to feel at home here and Bec and Adam will always make sure you’re looked after!

As an aussie traveller working nightshift i found this place to be perfect. Bec (mum) n Adam made this place really feel like home and everyone was very considerate and quiet during the day for me as i slept all day usually and was rarely woken up. Also free netflix, stan and more streaming on the tv, good size kitchen, clean bathrooms, great beer garden and a pool table. Thanks for having me over the past few months, Lachii

Couldn't ask for a better hostel experience, Bec and Adam are so lovely and will make you feel so welcome. The fire is always going, the bar and cosy lounge area is great to chill out in after a day of work. They are very supportive with finding work and the location is in the main street, right next to Woolies which is super handy. The beer garden is great when the weather is nice and the hostel itself is a great balance of social and chill. The rooms are super clean and comfortable and the kitchen has plenty of cooking space. Made some great friends here and really the best hostel I've stayed at! Thanks guys :)

Cambrai is a lovely hostel, in a nice location. The rooms and facilities are clean and well maintained as well. The atmosphere with everyone staying there is great. Adam and Bec are incredible hosts, they are kind and helpful with getting work and any issues you may have, they really made it feel like a home away from home. I will definitely be returning.

I had an amazing stay here as a solo backpacker. The hostel is a great size- small enough that it feels homey and you make fast friends. The hostel has a bar with frequent live music, a well equipped kitchen, frequent cleaning, nice outdoor space. I stayed here way longer than I intended because of the people. This place truly felt like home. The owners, Bec and Adam, are so incredibly hospitable and helpful… they treat you like family and are there for any question or problem you may have (they will also find you work). I left this hostel crying lol, I feel so lucky to have spent the time I did there. I cannot speak highly enough about this place!

I couldn’t speak any higher about Cambrai Backpackers Hostel. From the moment I arrived I felt at home. Bec and Adam were amazing hosts and pretty much found me a job the next day. I would 100% recommend staying at this hostel! 🇦🇺

  • 5/5 Aidan A. 1 year ago on Google
Cambrai Hostel genuinely has it all. Kind, dedicated and helpful owners, a relaxed atmosphere, clean and well-kept rooms, a constant living room fire in winter, a bar with a much appreciated discount for backpackers and an array of cool cocktails, a free pool table, and events organised by the owners and guests both. There are backpackers who have been staying here for literal years without interruption, and for good reason. The owners, Bec and Adam, go out of their way to provide guests with whatever they need and can genuinely end up feeling more like your friends than anything else. 'Like a home' is a phrase you will hear a lot when searching for a decent hostel to stay in, but I've never stayed anywhere else where it applies so precisely and accurately. I'll be back.

The hostel has the best welcoming family atmosphere. The owners, Bec and Adam, are incredible. They will help you with any problems with settling in Australia. 100% recommend.

There are not enough words to describe how amazing this place is. We were meant to stay just a few weeks and ended up staying for 5 months! It’s not a hostel, it’s a home and you live with all your friends. Bec and Adam are amazing people who genuinely care about you and can’t thank them enough for everything they’ve done❤️ There are plenty of jobs around and Bec and Adam will find you a job within a few days of arriving. I’ve made friends for life and now have a place to call home in Australia. 100% recommend if you’re wanting to do your 88 days!

A 5-star review doesn't do Cambrai justice! This is THE BEST PLACE to do your farm work. There's plenty of rural work (Dairy farming, salad picking/packing, and tree planting) and you will most likely start your job within a few days of arriving. The hostel itself is extremely clean and has everything you need to live comfortably for several weeks/months. The amenities include: - A FREE pool table - A bar with very reasonably priced drinks - Beer garden with outdoor TV - Lounge area with smart TV and game consoles. - Live music on Sundays - Free use of bikes What really makes this place special, however, is the people who own it. Bec and Adam are two of the most genuine people you will ever meet, they make everyone who stays here instantly feel welcome and part of their hostel family. It is very difficult to convey how amazing Bec, Adam, and Cambrai Hostel are... do yourself a favor and go find out for yourself! You won't be disappointed.

I stayed at Cambrai hostel for over 2 months and loved it! Bec and Adam are absolutely brilliant, always willing to go above and beyond to help anyone out. They had me set up with a job on a dairy farm within days of arriving, meaning I could start ticking off my 88 days immediately. The hostel has everything you need and there’s plenty going on to keep you entertained in the evenings. If you’re looking for somewhere to save some money and/or get your regional work done, this is the place to be.

I have stayed at Cambrai twice (for my 88 days in 2020 and for my six months in 2021) and I love it. Maffra as a town has everything you need with larger towns nearby for extras you may want. Bec and Adam took over the running of the hostel just after I arrived again in 2021 and I couldn’t have loved my stay more; they bend over backwards to find you jobs and really care about the people they have staying with them. The hostel has a fab atmosphere and the bar is normally great fun on weekends. Couldn’t recommend this place more for backpackers!
