We stayed here last September after a nice day trip to Port Elliot. The location is superb and and the Arcadia Hotel is a beautiful old building with sea views. Unfortunately however, we definitely didn’t find the stay particularly enjoyable. No one answered the telephone - I couldn’t raise anyone so booked through Airbnb. The “Double Room with Ensuite” in the Airbnb listing is in fact a lean-to at the back of the main building. It is small, bland and not representative of the lovely old hotel building. The car park at the rear is small and awkward due to chicken pens and other rubbish, I scraped the underside of my car on a stupidly positioned rock in the driveway. The management wouldn’t answer their after hours mobile or reply to text and were very unhelpful. There are rules including how to walk on the staircase to reduce noise and guests are required to remove linen and towels, carry them down the stairs and place them in laundry bins when checking out. We were glad to be leaving that morning! I would consider staying at this guest house again if it was under different management and some of the issues were sorted. I would definitely want a room in the main old building with a nice view instead of the one we got last time.

This place has lovely old fashioned character and charm, and it has been restored to really good condition at great expense. We had a free bbq too which was really nice. If you are into scuba diving it's within an hour's drive of Rapid Bay and Port Noarlunga, and very close to Victor Harbour. And of course being a yha, it is affordable for the common person.

Great place to stay, we have stayed a couple of times now and the kids love it because of the homely feel and the chickens out back.

Lovely hostel, and so are the people running it. Ended up extending my stay for a few nights. The location is fantastic, the whole place is very clean and the common areas are cozy. You can easily walk into town or watch the sunrise from here. Plenty of parking either in the back or on the street in front. Will be looking forward to booking another stay here eventually.

I would recommend this stay to anyone travelling to Port Elliot and surrounding areas! I immediately felt at home, welcomed with a smile and good conversation. The house is clean, tidy and has so much history tied to it! The walk around the bay/water was absolutely beautiful! I felt completely at home here ❤️

Lots of men chasing weird balls around in Adelaide put the price of accommodation through the roof, so decided to make a return visit to Port Elliot YHA. So glad I did. Obviously it is in a lovely spot, with a great view of the water from the balcony and just up the road from the cafes and bars of town. I had a shared bathroom double room - from it, I could look out at the other beach west of the hostel. The building has been renovated and is looking great. Internet was working fine. There's a nice outdoor deck to the rear, a games room of some sort and a kitchen dining area - there was a big school group using it the night I was in, so don't know much about it.

Where should we even start writing about our experience at the YHA Beach House in Port Elliot? Maybe with Alia & Trevor. Hosts and Managers of this magnificent place. Open-minded, caring, funny, adventurous and helpful. It clearly became a home away from home because of these guys. And then there’s Mr. Giles. The cutest Baby you’ll meet in the Southern Hemisphere. That’s for sure! There’s plenty to see and do in Port Elliot: From Bodysurfing in Horseshoe Bay, relaxing at Lady’s Bay or watching incredible sunsets over at Knights Beach. Spotting dolphins and seals in the ocean & maybe you’ll see whales over at the infamous Chicken run. You can’t miss a stroll through the famous Strand, the one street who has it all: Cute cafés, vintage stores or hip designer fashion. The best of them all is the Bakery. Get yourself a loaf of sourdough bread, a strawberry tart and thank us later. 😍 Just a short bike ride away is Middleton, perfect for beginners surfing. Victor Harbor has a super cute cinema and you might be lucky to see some penguins on the island. Go to this very special place. It has something you will never regret and cherish forever. Thanks again for everything Alia, Trevor & Giles. You’ll be forever in our hearts!! 🤍

Clean, friendly staff, great amenities and close to walking trail along the ocean front. Ensuite room very comfortable with nice coastal views - small but good value. Especially impressed with recycling bins for everything you could think of, a real commitment to our environment. Would definitely stay again.

This is a gorgeous place to stay. Trevor and Ahlia (and Giles of course) have such a calm and welcoming energy, they make it feel like home. The location is fantastic, just footsteps from several beaches, the bustling coffee shops and vintage shops. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here, thank you!

Beautiful old building. Helpful owners/staff. One of the nicer hostels I've stayed at in Australia. Pricing is about standard.

Port Elliot YHA would have to be the best hostel I've visited in Australia (so far)! The managers Jill and Graham treat their guests with kindness and empathy. The location is beautiful, and the building communal areas are fantastic! I can understand why many of the guests I spoke to had visited this hostel multiple times, the Beach House felt like a genuine family. During my stay I was unlucky enough to get severe food poisoning from a nearby restaurant. I asked if there was possibly a private room I could switch to so I wouldn't keep waking my roommates with constant bathroom visits. Jill went above and beyond and gave me a room for the night free of charge even though I insisted on paying the difference. I cannot thank her enough. Anytime I'm back visiting Port Elliot, it's a no-brainer where I'll be staying.

Amazing joint for backpackers. We were looking for a place to stay and could only find a room here and the backpacker experience was good for 1 night. The hosts are super friendly and will help you with all the info you need about the area. Lovely location and can see lots of things.

The management here is fabulous! You get a warm welcome, a stunning view and free eggs courtesy of the chickens. The Beach House is a stone's throw from the beach and kept wonderfully clean by the staff and guests alike. Can't wait to visit again!

We could see the beach out of our window room. Pretty awesome spot for young and old, backpackers, families and couples!

Lovely place to stay. Clean and comfortable rooms (I stayed in both shared and private rooms). Well-equipped shared kitchen, and big enough. Guest care is excellent (thanks Jill & Graham!). The location is great. The view on the ocean from the balconies, and the nearby beach and walking paths make is wonderful place to spend a romantic weekend, or to get away from a busy life for a few days.

We paid $175/night for "The Suite", which is quite expensive. The good: 1. The view to the sea. 2. The floor was clean The bad: 1. The room was dirty. 2. The ensuite bathroom space was ridiculous 3. No plates and cuttlery in the room except a tiny tea spoon. 4. No bed sides electric plugs to plug USB chargers. One electric strip under the bed to feed both table lamps. 5. The coffee/tea supply in the $175 room is very poor. OK, it has coffee "bags" (2). Very weak. At the end of the first day, I went down to reception asking for more coffee. It was like I asked for the Moon! I was told only "The Suite" has this wonderful coffee bags... I thought of getting a couple from the main kitchen area but I was told only instant coffee there. The Manager reluctantly agree to give me 2 more bags! Blymey, we paid for 2 night, $350 total. If asking for a few "coffee bags" is too expensive for these people, it is terrible. 6. The attitude of the managers is deplorable. When told the room was dirty, they refused to believe me. I asked them to come up and see for themselves and they responsded "We are too busy to do that!". They were in total denial telling me I was a liar. I have photos to prove them that the bathroom back of the sliding door was black of dirt, the top of the door frames were all dirty, the dirt visible on the ceiling fan blades. The price for this room is way too expensive for sub standard. I understand this is an old building, but they had the room refitted with all the latest fire alarm and sprinklers, with running electric cables. The dirt has accumulated over time and has nothing to do with the age of the building. It is just plain lazyness from these managers who can't accept negative feedback. We will NEVER go back there again.

YHA's on the whole hold themselves to solid standards. This YHA is super friendly, clean and is in a wonderful location overlooking the beach. We love the prices, staff and communal areas. Stunning place i see no need to stay anywhere else with my family.

😠 I ordered the "roast" lamb special. It was very thinly sliced and didn't seem like much of a roast to me. The veggies were definitely not roasted either. They were 100% steamed and bland af. Thank god for salt. The gravy was half decent though and tasted nice with the mint jelly. All up, was expecti...
