So apparently Westmead has a bad reputation and I wish I'd known this. We went to the classes during my pregnancy and they were good. I didn't have any problems at my appointments at the clinic. The problem was the birth day. I called in the morning to report excruciating pain and was told if my water hadn't broken then don't come in, you'll just have to tolerate the pain until you give birth- I thought I can't deal with this pain for another two weeks. Water broke went to hospital. At the hospital I screamed in pain- the nurse angrily stomps in my room and tells me stop that screaming. I was told by another nurse that others experience worse pain than yours- firstly, who are you to judge and secondly, maybe it's true but this is the worst pain I have experienced. Finally asked for an epidural and the needle was put in my hand (and left in Long after the labor was finished) but the doctor didn't come until after I had given birth. I was told during the classes to squat during labor because this makes giving birth easier and reduces the risk or extent of tears.but instead the nurse insisted i lie on my back even though I didn't want to and I feel this contributed to my third degree tear. Going into the hospital rooms after, the experience was mostly ok (although some nurses need better bedside manners or you can hear them talking about you in a negative way) but they definitely want you out as soon as possible. This experience and the issues experienced after put me off birth for years and I will research a hospital's reputation more diligently next time

I birthed my son in 2021, the hospital was understandably understaffed and overwhelmed. Everything was very rushed and I wasn't treated very nicely at all. My first midwife made me crawl on the ground to my bed while in active labour.. she wouldn't help me. Most of the midwives didn't really help me breastfeed and judged me as I started formula feeding. There were a small amount of very nice midwives. I have to birth there again this year and dreading it

This is the worst hospital if you can avoid coming here you should. If you are considered high risk. Just abort it they say. As if my unborn child's life means nothing. And the waiting for you to hear them talk a load of rubbish is unbelievable. I was there for hours. What's the use of appointments? I haven't been there for an appointment for a while now. They don't seem to do much. I am terrified for the day I go into labor. This use to be a good hospital. I had my first born here. It's gone down big time. Such a shame. Just an add on here. The maternity ward is not much better. There was this lady who apparently has to teach how to mak your babys botle depite one havin experience. She was the rudest. Also they dont help with botles for example the hospital I had my two previous sons at Canterbury Hospital which has the best Prenatal and postnatal treatment and care would provide botles. Not at Westmead. Some of midwives where wonderfull. But that so called botle expert shouldnt be working there. All starf should help with botle feeding. That woman has no place in maternity ward.

Emma is the Rudest receptionist. It's my 3rd visit here and first pregnancy so im new to the whole process and this woman will make sure you suffer and humiliate you just because she sees another ethnicity. She doesn't want to help when asked for information and lie to your face when i complained to the midwife about her behaviour towards me. Then she started acting up all nice.

The receptionists are absolutely rude. Doctors are unprofessional. I have attended 3 ultrasound appointments with terrible experiences. One hour is average waiting time and I suggest doctors should schedule their appointments properly. Do not waste patients time. After ultrasound scan, the doctor said she will send my report to my obstetrician, but never send. Very disappointed! Even public hospital service shouldn’t be like this.

Terrible experience! Westmead is the worst hospital! My wife had difficult labour. Instead of being gentle and supportive in the middle of the night, the midwives/nurses were rough, no gynaecologist/obstetrician around!

2015 - was in Labor all overnight because short of doctors which is fine but then when handover with morning staff, they said had to have a csection because of stress baby was in, midwives said to get baby out now or doctors will take control so gave birth. Then no breakfast, or lunch because they didn't have my room number on the food list. 2017 - one midwife no doctor, baby came fast and all was good until transferred to room, no food, dehydrated as hell and no breakfast because again room wasn't on patient list. Gave me breakfast at lunch, I wanted immediate discharge. 2021 - wrong details given in initial medical record so big fuss over BMI and all sorts for nothing, moved address and continued attending woman's health at westmead, they said was algood until 34 weeks appt and they said I had to change hospitals to Auburn, told them I was familiar with this place but they don't care. Have to go through all again with Auburn hospital. Not happy with westmead organisation of things. Heard about Auburn but can't possibly get any worse than this.

Couldn't have asked for better care if I tried. My first birth was at nepean and to say it was a traumatic experience is an understatement. This time round I was at westmead and from my prenatal care all the way through was amazing. Dounia my midwife was so supportive and encouraged me through my birth plan Evan when I wanted to give up and get the epidural. I felt empowered by the time my baby was in my arms. Once giving birth i than went up into the post natal ward and all the nurses were so lovely and willing to help with any questions I had. Their teamwork was 10/10! I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the whole woman's health team who made this lifetime memory such an amazing experience for me, so many people opt for the private health sector because they want better care but I am so grateful and happy to say the public health sector at this hospital takes pride in looking after their patients and babies to the highest level. Thank you again

I have been trying to ring almost for 5 days straight to rebook for an appointment. From their request. I've been on the phone waiting for more than 15mins and I hang up try again. The line is either busy or taking to long to answer. I'm not going to wait up to 30mins to be answered. I don't understand why it takes so long. I've had issues all the time everytime I try to ring in. I've rung even 8:30 when it opens and not answered. I rang different times of the day and still the same. I managed to get through to them once and got hanged up on. The answering machine recorded message is quite annoying and so repatative. This is very annoying and unprofessional!

Stayed 5 weeks in this ward . No one likes to be a patient but the staff Made me very comfortable. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly and very professional. Also, patient information is readily available as displayed on information boards . I must say other than being a patient I also learnt a lot .

All the nurses and doctors at Westmead are absolute heroes. They helped us through one of the most difficult chapters of our lives with tremendous compassion and kindness. We will always be grateful to them and we will never forget what they did for us.

Had my second baby here within the caseload program and I have nothing but praises to sing for my experience. Monique was my midwife and I was lucky to have her care for my entire pregnancy (41 weeks) and my birth. Continuity of care made for such a personal experience and made me confident I would have the natural birth without medication or interventions. And that’s exactly what I got. I recommend the caseload program for any birthing folks who want an experience that centres around the belief that we are capable of birthing babies without intervention, such a great experience.

Worst hospital. Not sure why they give you an appointment time, as you will be delayed by 2 to 3 hours irrespective!

I had a appointment with obstetrician in this hospital, after waiting for 3 hours. She spoke for 5 min with me in a hurry and left the room. She prescribed for a test that I asked her not to. I so regret for not having private insurance now.

Birthing unit is very nice, staff are friendly. But to describe the Maternity ward only one word.. HORRIBLE. Tax payer money down the drain with rude staff. Since they are dealing with post pregnant women, they should learn compassion and manners.. ABOSOLUTE DISGRACEFUL!!!!

Westmead is a great hospital for maternity. I used a Midwife Outreach and was always seen on time and by friendly, knowledgeable midwives. I had a lovely midwife student as well who was always supportive at my appointments and through my birth. During delivery, bub was posterior and not wanting to come out but overall I had great doctors and midwives who kept me well informed of my options and made sure bub came out safely. Would definitely use Westmead again!

I've just given birth last week, and want to express our thanks to Lisa (Elizabeth White), one of the midwives who went over and beyond looking after me during the delivery. She is so compassionate, empathic and puts her patients first, making sure to advocate for them. We've waited for 8 hours before having the induction (not the staff's fault), they were so busy and shortstaffed, but Lisa made sure to get us started once she came in arvo shift. Also, thanks to Esther who did a job well done with my stitches.

I gave birth here last year and I had my own room and bathroom (it was a planned cesarean) and the nurses post birth are helpful. However the major downside is when the Doctor put the wrong date on my yellow card. I was supposed to give birth at 38 weeks, but I ended up giving birth at 40 weeks which isn’t really a bad thing- just glad my unborn child decided to stay otherwise it will be a life threatening situation if I go on labor while the baby is in breech position!!!

Had two kids 2014 and 2015 amazing experience The staff was very nice, supportive and carrying It comes down maybe how you approach the staff too- they work long hours and support a lot of patients the least you can do is be nice to them I have another one on the way in 2021 will reassess that

I have had great experiences, can undrstand that with the public system, the hours these nurses and admin staff have to work at the front line during these crazy Covid times. The wait time might be long, the drs might be super direct, the nurses might brush you off but the work they do is amazing! The nurses/midwives i have encountered with in day assessment unit have been lovely and did what they could to speed up the processes so i could be discharged.

In this place discriminate males. They don't allow husbands to be with his wife. In the waiting room. They prefer have then all crowded in a 3 by 4 section

I am highly impressed by the staff and the facility. I agree waiting period is there, but if you accept that, everything else is worthwhile.

This place is a joke Save your time and find a better place to go. What a massive turn off! Plus the doctor's all seem to be rude and dismissive. Looks like these young "professionals" only care about their paychecks.
