I would not classify this as a private hospital. The ICCU ward has shared bathrooms. Cardiac patients then have to navigate the firedoors which are fitted to these shared bathroom facilities. I was sharing with a gentleman that had diarrhoea, due to medication administered and he was unable to open the firedoor. The nursing staff advised me that they repeatedly asked hospital management to replace shared bathroom firedoors and these requests fell on deaf ears. l was surprised at the number of nurses in training which resulted in blood tests being conducted twice in a day. Training is usually conducted at public hospitals. I would not recommend this hospital. The infrastructure and lack of experienced staff make recovery more challenging than it needs to be.

Really poor admissions system admin, with zero communication. After being asked to arrive at 7am, I was left at 10am as the only person in the waiting room, with an unstaffed desk, and no clue whether I'd been forgotten about. I was already tense enough about my procedure and this multiplied that stress. Once I was able to ask someone, everything happened really quickly, giving the impression that I should have gone into the pre-op area earlier than I did - my surgeon had even arrived at my bed a few minutes before I did. After that, the medical care was great, though that's expected with what you're paying for a private hospital. For a $2100 cost for the few hours in hospital alone, I'd expect top-level care, both administrative AND medical, with good communication at every stage. As someone without health insurance it would also have been nice to have been given the option to not use the exorbitantly-priced on premise pharmacy. One medication I got was 3.4 times the price I would have paid elsewhere and overall the meds cost 2.3 times the price elsewhere - a blatant ripoff.

After my Achilles Tendon repair surgery I had to stay overnight. Throughout my stay, I encountered highly skilled and friendly staff, including those from admission, operation assistance, and the day and night shift nurses in the room. Special thanks to Grace on the 5th floor south for regularly check-in and offer pain killer:) Only thing I can pick is the hospital machine as they constantly emitted loud and irritating warning signals during tasks, which disrupted the peaceful atmosphere at night. I believe upgrading the machines/system would improve the environment for patients, allowing for better rest and recovery. For those who are going to stay overnight, bringing a pair of ear plugs or headset will definitely help you sleep.

I've been in hospital LOTS and have always has fabulous nurses until my stay at Epworth Eastern, General Surgery. Nurses there have no interest in the patient or their history. Chris gets zero for empathy and needs to relearn a few basics about nursing.

Best experience with this hospital. Not only my surgeon Dr Carmen Muntanaeu is the best going around for many many reasons ❤️. My experience on admission, the front desk to the bed and wards, the nurses and staff at this hospital are so amazing! I can not fault anyone, without going into full detail, nurses are so kind , friendly, happy pleasant, professional , nothing is too much trouble and ensured I was comfortable from start to finish 100/10 , one happy patient

I had done my placement recently in CSSD. Staffs & line of managers, especially Jimmy Arrysandi are so keen to help & support my learning. Everyday has been a great experience to learn & participate in workforce. I couldn't be grateful enough to have Epworth Eastern as my work experience placement. Thank you for having me as a placement student🖊🥰💫

Hi Epworth staff, I just wanted to share an experience that I have never encountered before. On Thursday 23/02, I attended the Fibroscan Clinic at 1 Arnold St Box Hill. I approached the counter and a young male approx 20-25 years of age was sitting behind a desk. I advised him that I was there for a fibroscan and he said "ok take a seat". I tried to give the gentleman my name and he said "you're in the right place" I thought hmmm, this guy seems uninterested. He treated the other arriving patients with the same level of disinterest. The waiting room had filled up and the young man sitting behind the desk picked up his bag and left. Approx 10 mins later I saw a Dr walk in and he said "ok sort out who goes first and I''ll come back in 5 minutes. We looked at each other in amazement. When the Dr returned, a woman got up from her chair and went first. I went in next and shared my experience with the Dr. he replied, "the guy that works here was supposed to sort out the files in order of arrival but must have gone home early". I said to the Dr that I was thinking about complaining and he said "I've done that many times but nothing has changed" WOW, looks like this behaviour is tolerated at Epworth Eastern.

A really clean hospital and the food was great. Nurses and cleaners were very nice and my treating Doctors were fabulous. Only downside was one of the other Doctors would stand at the nurses desk outside my room and speak loudly each night as he gave instructions to the nurses. I had migraines so this was challenging. I'd suggest he lower his voice as not everyone wants to hear him.

Thank you very much, Dr. Dan Croagh, Dr. Jones and nurses. Wonderful medical team. My husband had an endoscopic ultrasound today. They took good care of him and helped us through a very difficult situation. One thing that was disappointing was that he had to wait for over 2 hours. The pain was so severe due to gallstones, and he couldn't sit on the chair for long, so I asked the receptionist to help to call a nurse, but she was unfriendly and ignored my request. That was so upset. Obviously, she wasn't busy.

Every member of staff I came into contact with during our visit this morning were professional, friendly, efficient and gave exceptional customer service. Could not fault one detail of our experience even though I was bit stressed going in. Facilities were clean and modern. Extra shout out to Carmel at the surgery admissions desk for going making sure she followed up with me even though I'm sure it was time for her break. Thanks heaps team!!

Today I went in for an Ultrasound-guided biopsy. My admission was scheduled for 9:30am. Got there ahead of time and waited until 2pm. Not sure why I was scheduled so early in the first place as there were multiple other people waiting to be seen. The nurses were all very lovely once I was seen. Annie was awesome, so polite, kind and caring. I would like to thank the whole team who looked after me - Dr Dan Croagh, Dr Jones + more. They were also so kind and caring, The wait was worth it in the end as I was referred to Dr Croagh by another well respected surgeon. The wait could have been avoided with better scheduling and maintenance of the equipment. Those are the two things which could be improved on. My procedure only lasted less than one hour but I had to wait until 2pm for my procedure. By 3pm the procedure had concluded and was awake. My actual admission time was for 9:30am. I was so hungry and thirsty as I’ve also had to fast for this procedure. Everyone was very apologetic which really showed their compassion. Again such an amazing and lovely team but please consider more regular equipment maintenance as my understanding this is not a 24/7 operation. Which IMO allows more flexibility for such maintenance to happen. This would lead to a more pleasant experience overall.

Nursing staff at this hospital are appalling. My daughter needed full assistance after having surgery on both her arms & upper body. I got to the hospital at 8am & never saw a Nurse for the first 3hrs. Lucky I was there to help her eat breakfast. Also the surgeon gave the nurse a number of specific tasks that needed doing. The nurse didn’t even do one thing she was asked to do. ZERO The same nurse had to be called back multiple (3times) when asked to provide pain relief, because she was “so busy” she kept forgetting

I had an MRI appointment at this hospital and after the test the doctor met me alone to tell me that there was bleeding in the lower brain and immediately asked me to go to the opposite hospital for a full examination and asked the nurse to take me there personally, at the same time the doctor immediately called the opposite hospital and sent a referral letter, I regret that I did not come 2 days earlier for the examination and thus delayed for a week. Thank you to this hospital for being so responsible, far better than the public hospital across the road.

On the way to a PET scan @ IMed yesterday, I had a fall at the Basement 3 lifts. Thanks and gratitude to the IMed staff member who assisted me with a wheelchair and to the Epworth ICU doctor, nurse & other staff for your concern & care, checking I was safe. Much appreciated.

Lady at the front dealing with visitors and QR codes was so rude!! How can she work with such behaviour at a hospital?! Also a PRIVATE hospital? I had to stand in the queue for 15min waiting to enter the hospital and was running late to my appointment although I arrived at the hospital on time. And the lady was full on yelling and having the worst attitude. Never want to come back again because of her

Father booked in for hernia surgery which was covered through his Private Health Insurance. Appalling service! They don’t care about your health whatsoever. Terrible place with a incompetent nurses- one who almost punctured my fathers stitched stomach. He did not feel welcome here at all! He had just undergone the surgery and they were already telling him to get ready to leave.. turns out he had to actually stay another night because of post-op complications. And that’s not even the worst of it.. nobody in his family was contacted to advise he would be discharged although we were calling his room and reception and nothing. DO NOT request your operation to be done at this hospital. Shame on you Epworth.

I would like to give a huge thank you to my nurse Shirley. I am a patient on 4 North and it is 1am. I am feeling, let's say, 50%. I have had a rough road to recovery, I am hearing a MET call, but still Shirley has showed compassion and respect, thanks, she attended the Met call, as she needs to but made sure she came back to check I was ok

This evening I visited Nonna after her hip surgery. Dinner was served at 6pm, however, nonna was not served. The nurses called the kitchen twice, nonna waited for an hour and a half before it was delivered. When I tried to wipe the table clean, the wipes were dry and the bin had no liner. Past experiences have been great with Epworth! Disappointed it seems to have changed.

The care at the Epworth Eastern was exceptional. Everyone from admissions, to the theatre team and then the care on the ward was excellent. Special call out to Lucy, the day nurse in the ward, her commitment to her patients was above and beyond.

i had to book online for my pelvic ultrasound which was very smooth and easy to do. however upon arriving at the entrance of the centre, was confronted by a woman insisting i use qr code but i didnt want to so i suggest that i just write my contact details, she was bit rude in the way she approach me as well and i was a bit turned off. upon arriving at the radiology department, the medicial receptionist insist i have to use qr code again, why need to do it twice when i am in the same location anyway? but kudos to the nurse who did my ultrasound she was very polite and professional in conducting ultrasound. i was also a bit annoyed how come i couldn't use my bupa insurance card on my phone in paying while i could use this at other healthcare centres? other than this everything was fine. also the hospital environment like many others here have mentioned feels like government run state hospital instead of private one....

My sister is currently in Epworth. I know she has been struggling on a daily basis to do even the smallest thing. To be told by your head nurse that she’s ‘using’ you and should be in rehab was very disappointing. I know that this bothered her- and her sisters. I know my sister and she is no malingerer.

My girlfriend had a surgery today at this private hospital on level 3 one of the nurses Nichole was great, she was smart helpful and kind one of the best nurses I’ve ever seen but others won’t so good, whilst waiting for the surgery my girlfriend was suffering from great amount of pain from the meds that they provided nobody came and helped her out and left her to cry in agony by herself when some one finally came over( blond woman with out a name tag on) she told my girlfriend to stop it whilst my girlfriend was profusely apologised to her she walked of to her coworker and laughed at by girlfriend. Disgusting behaviour never knew that people could be so disrespectful and rude.
