Do not stay here. We had a terrible experience. For my wife’s birthday, we were going hot air ballooning and staying at Harrigan‘s, as it is close by. For dinner on Saturday night, we booked a table for two next to the fireplace. On arrival 10 minutes early we were seated next to the cash register and the Passover bar, I questioned the manager as to why we were not receiving a table at the fire. We were told that this table was booked for us, and I asked them to find me a better table. Apparently I was not nice enough and was threatened with being thrown out by the restaurant manager. I shut my mouth and took a share table in the bar area and we ate our dinner after complaining to the bar manager with no further success as the restaurant manager came over and intervened. After eating dinner, I went to thank the chefs for a lovely meal as I usually do. At this stage I was again approached by the restaurant manager, and I asked her to see things from my perspective. She would not listen and kept talking over me, so I walked away, not wanting to make my wife’s night any worse. When I got back to my table, the security approached me and threw us out as the restaurant manager had lied to them and told them I had sworn. I absolutely did not swear or raise my voice, The restaurant manager had obviously wished to cover up the situation that she caused. We left quietly and will never return. No apology was made or any attempt to rectify the situation once the mistake had been made. We were made to feel that the mistake was our fault. There are so many lovely places to stay in the Huntervalley. Do not stay here. I am anticipating a comment from management below that will make some excuse and blame it on me. Very disappointing experience.

Place is a bit of a landmark for the Hunter, worth popping in for a meal and beverage but note is it expensive and their is a wait for the bar. Been here a few times to break up the Hunter wine tastings, experience is pretty consistent. We originally went inside and was told they could fit us in. Went outside and got a table straight away. Interesting the place had a large number of tables which were reserved but virtually no one was sitting in them. Food service was incredibly prompt. I order at the outdoor bar and we received our food about ten minutes later. Guinness was really good, house sparkling was very average however…. Mushroom gravy was decidedly limited in terms of mushrooms! 🍄 Atmosphere is fabulous. They had live music which added to the environment. On a nice day you could happily spend an afternoon relaxing over a few beverages. If you are staying local there is also taxi details to get you home safely. Would certainly come again, but you do kind of feel like your being churned out asap.

I'll start with the good. Everything about this venue was looking promising, heaps of parking, nice looking venue inside and out, nice gardens. Staff were very friendly, you could see inside the kitchen which looked clean, everyone was polite and looked the part. We had the grilled Barramundi $32 The scotch fillet 300g $42 Due to the look of the place and the chefs appeared to look at part, we took a punt with the steak as normally when you pay that price you'd expect it to be nice and fresh. The meal was very disappointing, the barramundi skin was soggy and was Luke warm however very cooked. I feel the meal was made hours or days prior and just heated up. This was the same with the steam, when you cut the steak up it wasn't juicy or anything, no blood came out for medium rare. It appears that they just cook the food in bulk and heat it back up to order. The chips were nice, they came with chicken salt and room temp gravy. However if I was ever to come back I'd stick to something on the lower scale price point, probably bangers and mash, or the pie as that's proper pub grub and hard to fail. Not worth the price tag, we didn't finish our steak. 8/10 for the venue 9/10 for the staff 8/10 for the tap beers 2/10 for the food 2/10 for the value Overall fairly disappointing.

We were recommended this restaurant after our wine tasting and purchases at Hunter Valley. The service is a total shock. We arrived with 15 persons and were told that we could only be seated outside even when we could see spaces that could take more than 3 times our number at least. That’s even after we offered to be seated separately as it’s convenient for her. We were told we had to come into the kitchen table to place our orders, no table service. A sure sign of discrimination. Raised the same issue with a manager-dressed person and nothing was done. All wineries around should surely boycott this restaurant for the good of your clients.

Very disappointing to be writing this as it use to be an amazing place after a day out in the valley. We ordered dinner with 4 of us and when our meals were delivered, The waiteress knocked over a full glass of water all over one of us and his phone on the table. I understand accidents happen but she didn't even apologise. When jokingly asked do we get a free beer or something she replied with a short but loud no. Then she went and got the manager to come out who started off with the opening line of " hi guys, do we have a problem here. And finished with " can I get you something as in a glass of water".. No words other than don't kiss your dad and if you do stay at the local pub in cessnock and work there stay out of the hunter valley.

Room was smaller than in photos. TV was falling off wall. Shower tap was dripping constantly. Window and windowsills were filthy. Is a very dated accommodation. No microwave available. We were glad we were able to check out with full refund. We were there 5 minutes.

I was extremely disappointed with the lack of understanding, and the way I was spoken to by one of the managers when chasing up food. Telling me a 45 minute wait was average on a Sunday, when the rest of my table, who ordered similar food after me, received their meals and had eaten before my order arrived. I’m not one to complain, but this was just ridiculous. The rude manager dismissed my complaint and told me to move on as others were waiting to order. They were not willing to show any understanding. And despite talking to her my order was still delayed until after I spoke to another manger, who then bought our food out, which was incorrect as well! No compensation was offered and barely a sorry, just an excuse that they were really busy. Plenty of tables around us, who arrived after us, enjoyed their meals before we received ours!

I recently visited Harrigan's with high hopes of enjoying a pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, my overall impression of the restaurant was severely tainted by the unprofessional and disrespectful behavior exhibited by the security guards. From the moment I arrived at Harrigan's, the security guards made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable. Their rude demeanor and lack of basic courtesy were completely unacceptable. Instead of providing a sense of safety and security, they seemed more interested in exerting their authority and asserting dominance over the patrons. Upon entering Harrigan's, I was met with glares and condescending remarks from the security guards. They were dismissive and treated me as though I was a nuisance rather than a paying customer. Their disrespectful behavior continued throughout my visit, creating a hostile and unpleasant atmosphere. What shocked me the most was the complete disregard for customer service. I understand the importance of maintaining a safe environment, but security personnel should also be trained in providing respectful and professional service. Unfortunately, this was not the case at Harrigan's. The attitude and behavior of the security guards overshadowed any positive aspects of my dining experience. The food at Harrigan's, which could have potentially been enjoyable, was overshadowed by the negativity brought upon by the security staff. It was difficult to relax and savor the meal when constantly feeling scrutinized and judged by the very people who were supposed to ensure our safety. As a customer, I expect to be treated with respect and courtesy regardless of the establishment's security protocols. The security guards' behavior at Harrigan's fell far short of these expectations and left a lasting negative impression on my overall experience. I hope that the management of Harrigan's takes this review seriously and addresses the issue promptly. It is crucial for them to train their security staff in providing excellent customer service, ensuring a welcoming environment for all patrons. Otherwise, the presence of rude security guards will continue to drive customers away and tarnish Harrigan's reputation. In conclusion, my visit to Harrigan's was marred by the unpleasant and unprofessional behavior of the security guards. I would caution potential diners to consider this aspect before choosing to dine at Harrigan's. There are many other restaurants that prioritize customer service and provide a welcoming atmosphere, and I would encourage you to explore those alternatives instead.

Overall the area is beautiful and lots of options for beverage, however our groups chicken wasn't cooked very well, some sections of the meat were raw. I had a friend later few days after comment the same on the chicken schnitzel. Would have felt more comfortable with a well cooked meal. Was concerning to hear the same comment days after.

For the decent decent chicken schnitzel, I’ll give it a 4. Atmosphere is pretty good. They did forget my order which came out after everyone else had finished but I’ll leave that be given they are really churning out many meals. Kudos to the staff for dealing with the high volume of people.

Check in and check out was great, nice friendly staff. Breakfast was delicious!! We ordered a take-away for dinner as we were told it was booked out for meals the evening we arrived, the meals were nice but would have been better to have been able to sit at a table, but that's what happens when you don't pre-book. The rooms are nice but a little dated for what you pay.

Group of 5 called in a 10.00am for breakfast. The place was empty, told they were servicing a very limited menu, closing in 20 minutes, basically told they were closing for breakfast. Then suggested to go to the hunter valley gardens for breakfast, I would not suggest this would be good for business in this financial climate. We left and took our money elsewhere. It’s a Sunday in the Hunter Valley, go figure.

We called in for lunch on our way to our Hotel... Food was terrible! Chicken schnitzel I think came originally from a cardboard box pre packed. The place was packed understandably. Nice outlook. But the food was terrible. Us 3 will not be back 🥺

Food is fine with a fair price, had definitely improved since the last time I've eaten here. The duck is a small light meal, pizza is basic but tasty and the pot pie doesn't have a great range of flavour. Creme brulee came out burnt but delicious otherwise. Style of the pub is great and staff are awesome!

Good indoor and outdoor areas. Good selection of food and drink. Great quality. Pricing reasonable for the area. Friendly staff. Best to book, especially with a group or busy time.

Good pub to kill time in around the valley, food is ok, nothing to rave about & beers selection needs a broader selection. I found the food & drink selection better a few years back. Still find it a nice place to visit to break up the wineries.

We held our wedding reception at Harrigans on 26/08/2023. Everything was perfect! The food was wonderful, the staff were attentive and friendly, and they accommodated us when the babysitter didn't show, meaning the kids had to come to the reception! Maddie and Stacey in Events are lovely and very easy to deal with! The accommodation was also very lovely. We will most definitely be back!

Had a lunch with the All family, my kid of 9 years old (very picky and fuzzy with his food) eat almost the all big meat plate leaving for me only the chipotle not cause they where not nice but cause he was full. Food come out fast enough. Good selections of beers I was quite happy and I’ll definitely coming back on my next visit but n the hunter valley.

Attended with a group of 8 for lunch all meals that were served were delivered spaced not together and 2 members of our group didn’t even receive their meals as they had been forgotten . I had beef cheeks which would have been the worst I’ve ever had, they were full of gristle and quite tough. Most meals were Luke warm at best, we will never return and will pass the information on to our friends.

Had dinner at Harrigan's Irish Pub Pokolbin Hunter Valley. Would recommend making a reservation as it was very busy on a Friday night. The meal was lovely and the portions were generous.

Came for a quick meal with my 3 year old daughter. We waited in line to order for 15 minutes while a completely inept Manager tried to refund a customer who was complaining that they had waited an hour for food (should have been the warning sign). Finally, they figured out how to refund. We took a table near the pass from the kitchen, and watched as food piled up on the pass. Our food actually came out quite fast, but was stone cold. I realised why after returning it that there were absolutely no controls in the kitchen. I watched as burgers and chips sat on the pass for more than 30 minutes getting cold while the "Manager" stood there handing cold food to wait staff without a clue. At one point I counted 57 dishes sitting on the pass and kitchen staff not communicating with each other pushing dishes from out under the heating lights, while the Manager leaned in over the food to call out to the kitchen while spitting all over the food sat there for more than 15 minutes being subjected to his breath and spit while waiting for the rest of the table which seemingly never came. Clearly the entire process is completely broken. After paying $40 for a burger and chips and some hummus dip, we left. Not before seeing multiple people come up multiple times asking for status on food to which they were met with the answer of "it's coming up now" even the second time for some poor guy. The kitchen needs to communicate and plan a table, not just throw burgers up when the fish is 15 minutes away. The whole system is broken. I'll not be back. Oh, and the sign at the front says "Family Friendly Dining" - it's not. No play area or really anything for kids.

Management and security staff are constantly looking for a reason to kick people out, but worst of all, an after 10 pm surcharge on drinks, effectively doubling the price ! There are no advisory signs to inform customers, at least none I saw. A real shame. I have been frequenting this pub every year for the past 20 years and it used to be bursting at the seams with punters having a great night, not anymore. The place was almost empty by 10.30pm! I guess everyone else feels the same.

The view, music was really good. I went with my family last weekend, Food was extremely disappointing. I and Mother ordered the baramundi meal for lunch and we got totally opposite. It was firstly disorganised and terrible food. We paid for nothing actually, total loss!!!

A group of four of us visiting for the weekend.. made a reservation and didn’t disappoint.. service was fabulous and meals were delicious.. two dishes came out a bit earlier than the other two but the young gentleman on greeting saw us looking around and was quick to attend and check on our food that we were waiting on which arrived not long after..sorry can’t remember his name but very helpful and hard working young lad. Also another mentioned to the young gentlemen ( again I’m bad with names. Very tall young gentleman.) had run out of the wine I ordered and recommended A local vineyard drop… he was in point and I thanked him after when we left. We did also visit the bottle shop on leaving. The gentleman charged me incorrectly and not till I realised yesterday. That’s ok but I think perhaps on busy event weekends more staff may be needed to offer assistance to patrons and assist in checkout!!

A most unpleasant experience . It is understood that when busy one needs to be patient , however one person at the bar in a pub of this size is ridiculous. Further , the sole barman was involved in a lengthy voucher sale . The food was poor with pizza like rubber . Will avoid in future ! Sorry guys , very rarely give a bad review but this deserved it !

I have only ever been here twice, the first was my birthday last year and the 2nd was on my way back from my honeymoon this year. The staff are friendly but the kitchen is very slow, we went when it wasn’t too busy usually as they had just changed to their lunch menu. All tables were reserved in the indoor seating areas despite no one sitting at them for the 2.5 hours we were there. It’s a lovely place but could definitely use more vegan options (it used to have them but they have since removed them from their menu.)

Perfect stop off for a drink while travelling through the Hunter Valley. Meals are served quickly when the crowds are small. Expect to line up to order around peak meal times if the pub is full. Options to sit inside or outside in all weather conditions.

Really good. Great rooms with a little vineyard view. Very friendly and accommodating staff. Delicious and cheap breakfast. Looking forward to our next visit

Great location amongst the wineries, we went during the week with no crowds so we were served quickly for drinks and food. The burger was awesome and whilst it was fairly small compared to most pub burgers, it was enough to fill me. The beer and cider went down really well too! It is a great place to eat if you don't want to spend mega dollars in a winery, whilst being amongst them all.

Our visit to Harringan's Bar was a delightful experience. As a small group, we chose the bar for lunch and were pleasantly surprised. The food was not only delicious but also came in generous portions, all at reasonable prices. If you're looking for a great choice, I highly recommend trying their shared platters. The nods of approval around the table spoke volumes about their quality. The abundance of seating was also a notable feature, ensuring comfort for everyone. Whether you're looking for a satisfying meal or a casual get-together, Harrigans Bar certainly delivers on all fronts.

We have been here before, food was good. Unfortunately my steak was overcooked and as food was ordered at the bar, there was no one I could contact regarding my food, ended up having to walk my plate back to the kitchen. They did deliver a new plate within 5 minutes with the steak cooked as requested and I was happy with this, however I think they need more staff to provide some level of service.

Highly recommend eating here if you want value for money, good serving sizes, good food, friendly staff, lots of options on the menu and fast service. We ate here during a very busy public holiday period and these guys handled it every well. We didn’t have a reservation and they were still very accomodating. The food came very quickly (although be prepared for a long queue when ordering as there is only one line up to order at the register which can take up to 20 minutes just to order) We have eaten here twice now and are planning to come back because it’s a pleasant place to eat, nice surroundings and good value for money.

Visited here after arriving at our hotel to be told their restaurant was fully booked that evening. This turned out to be no bad thing as we enjoyed our visit to Harrigan's. We opted for the Monday special of Cheeseburger and chips at $18, which we both enjoyed and thought was good value for money. After ordering, the food was quick to arrive. The only thing I didn't like was having to queue separately for food and drinks.

Came to Harrigans for a wedding on the weekend and it was absolutely beautiful. There were two lovely bar staff that served for the reception. The margarita pizzas and strawberry slammer jugs were incredible. It gets very busy yet we always received our meals shortly after ordering.

Lovely venue and great food, alas waited 45 mins for our food. Was offered to refund our money, which I declined as we went there to eat. Was not offered an apology nor an update on our order being delayed, nor a discount. I gently admonished the waitress for this and was told not to be rude. I didn't raise my voice nor swear. I will not go there again as a response to their service.

Great Irish pub in the beautiful hunter region. Location, food and beverages all on point with a great aesthetic to the establishment. A very easy day trip to make from Sydney if you're up for a little drive, have some lunch then head back down. Strongly recommend the Guinness pie.

Dropped in mid week for a beer and lunch. Premises clean, tidy and we'll set out, great staff with a good knowledge of their products. Shared a chicken pizza for lunch, good size, well presented and yummy. Washed down with a Schooner of alcoholic ginger beer which was refreshingly nice. 👍

Very friendly staffs and helpful. We came during weekday, not too crowded. Ordered Margherita pizza, chicken wings and steamed veggies for two people. Good portion and surprisingly the pizza was very tasty! We will definitely visit again.

A great place to relax on cold nights. Good bar service and many beverage options. Sadly the food was ordinary. There was quantity, but alas little interesting flavour. My ribs and wings were bland. Covered in a sticky sugary sauce of uncertain flavor. The meat had little interest to savour.

Went in a large group and found the service to be great, the food was excellent and the general atmosphere was wonderful. Live bands music over the weekend, a great selection of tap beers and of course local wines. We all really enjoyed it. It gets busy so book a table if you are wishing to dine in.

  • 5/5 Chris T. 1 year ago on Google
Lively pub with a great vibing atmosphere. The outdoor dining area was sunny relaxing and had a band playing some nice tunes. Enjoyed the steak sandwich. The steak was cooked medium and the flavours of the sauce and condiments were nice. The chips was top notch, crunchy, crispy and delicious! Great place to enjoy a meal with the family.
