Benedictine monastery founded in 1083 by the Bishop of Passau. The still active monastery owns the surrounding lands and produces delicious apricot jams and wines available for purchase. The Abbey is situated upon a hill and offered great views around the area to the Danube. I’d highly recommend a visit.

If you have a couple of days in the Wachau valley, this abbey is worth a visit. Melk abbey is slightly more magnificent and if you are in short of time, opt for melk. Otherwise you will not be disappointed with this masterpiece. We stayed at the guesthouse but it was really hard to find the reception. Very disorganised on this side.

Beautiful abbey where you can stroll and see the church and crypt. Wine tastings available near gift shop. Lots of apricot merchandise made from the apricot trees tended by the monks!

Such a beautiful sight from the river. Wish we could have visited. Maybe a reason to visit again in the future.

Not to be missed. It is hard to imagine how the place is still chugging along after 1000+ years! Walk down to the Danube and then climb the many stairs up to the plateau high above the Abby. Then you can sit and enjoy a fine beer!

Large, well-preserved monestary on top of a mountain with beautiful views. The church was lovely with soft color decor. The hall with the great ceiling fresco was memorable. Side rooms also painted with interesting water motifs. The tour was informative. The apricot nectar and wine tasting was nice. Beautiful views off the top of the exit area.

This was an excellent, personal tour organized by Viking cruise line. We really enjoyed the details of the history and life of a monk. The abbey was amazing.

I visited the abbey recently, and I must say it was a truly enchanting experience. The beauty of the abbey itself was breathtaking, and the surrounding area was nothing short of spectacular. What impressed me the most was learning about the monks' dedication to the community. They actively work to maintain the abbey's structure and have adopted sustainable practices like wine making, forestry, peach sales, and tourism to support their livelihoods and the local economy. It's an inspiring place that blends history, nature, and community in a harmonious way. Highly recommended!

Really nice looking monastery with an amazing view. Came with a friend and did a rough hike to get to this place, but the views from here make it worth it.

Very beautiful hilltop views, walking through the abbey's museum and losing track of time.

This is a high-quality hotel and restaurant. BUT it's also an ancient monastery with a gorgeous church and a beautiful garden. The admission to tour the facility is free, except if you want to visit the museum (there is an entrance fee for the museum). The building complex is located on the top of the hill, with gorgeous views on the surrounding area.

Always worth a visit. Impressive abbey where Name of the Rose was filmed. The Kaiser quarters were a bit expensive to enter and no information was made available. The staff at reception should be more helpful.

This is a beautiful place & the tour was very informative. They also have rooms to rent in a separate building. If you are looking for a quiet place with lots of room to hike I think this would be beautiful.
