If you are interested in Catholic art and want to understand better the history of the catholic countries, I recommend this place. It transported you into the past. Also, it shows you the history of Portugal as an empire. Amazing place.

It is an amazing museum with an abundance of religious relics and history. It is a converted convent and primarily dedicated to the life and death of Princess Santa Joana de Aveiro, the daughter of Alfanzo V. Gold painted wood everywhere. General admission fee is €7, with a reduced rate for students and free to senior citizens. If you're planning to visit Aveiro, don't miss this museum. Allow 1-1/2 to 2 hours.

Best museum I visited, so far, in Portugal. Very well thought. The exhibition is quite big and it has a good relationship quality-price.

Interesting museum that can be visited in about an hour and a half (two hours if you go slowly). We found free entrance in the day of the city patron but I am not sure if there is a ticket in the regular days. The location is nice (an old convent) and the baroque architecture of some halls is impressive. I enjoyed it and recommend a visit.

The museum is mainly about Saint Joana, her tomb, her relics and a lot of religious art. The first part takes you through some really old chapels, quite beautiful and so are the cloisters

Surprisingly interesting: I say that because I am not someone who is really into religious iconography but this touches more on the place and impact of the religious worship of a saint, so you learn quite a bit about the foundation of the city. Plus, the chapels and main church are beautifully preserved. Quite worth it!

If you are in Aveiro go to the museum. The tomb of Princess Joanne (daughter of the King of Portugal) who became a nun to avoid arranged marriage & was later beautified & became the patron saint of the city. There's religious artwork, an amazing monestry & also some very modern art. The building is stunning, the church a wow.. I'm not Catholic, I'm not religious but the artifacts & relics are worth viewing...

Impressive collection about religious arts and Santa Joana of Aveiro. Unfortunately there was no guided tour, but you can get more information through a website / app, though the info is more or less the same with what they display next to the exhibit

It was a really wonderful visit with more exhibits than I was expecting, especially the religious paintings relating to Santa Joana. The tomb of Joana and the Chapel are mightily impressive.

Maybe the only thing coming to Aveiro for but this place is breathtaking. Only 5 euros entry; worth every single cent and then some. Wow.

Spectacular museum with an outdoor element. I really felt like the story told for each exhibition ties together with each other. The chapels were really interesting to see. Ugh the BEST admission I spent for a museum. ❤️❤️❤️

A museum full of history and very beautiful! Very helpful staff. The story behind the monastery could be better told. I had local friend as a guide whch helped understand a lot better the reason behind its construction, otherwise I would have missed altogether.

in my humble opinion there is not much to see in Aveiro...but this one is one of the best monuments in Portugal for sure! :) impressive, not crowded at all... definitely worth visiting

Best museus and one of the most beautiful church in the world. I strongly recommend to buy the 7 euros for all 3 aveiro's museum. Please be aware that the museum closes for lunch, I recommend to spend more time on this museum, at least 2 hours to see all things.

Great story of Saint Joanna. This place is filled with history of Saint Joanna. Items are from centuries ago and pretty well preserved. Deceptively big inside. Beautifully laid out in the typical museum way.

Beautiful history inside. I entered at 1:30 and didn’t see anyone else. All translated into English. €5 entry may be a little much
