The staff was super friendly and nice and rooms here are great. Shower had enough room and fine as well. EXCELLENT location near restaurants. Gorgeous but limited views of the pope palace and DIRECTLY next door. Giving three stars due to the toilet being TINY. About 2.5 feet by 3 or something close to that! No room to stand, turn around, pull your pants up, etc. The other issue is parking/luggage. You can't drive up to the hotel or park nearby. You basically can't drive inside most of the streets inside the beautiful "city walls" (South Park). What you have to do is go around the city, park under ground, drag your suitcases through the long garage, up small old steps, onto the street. Then walk a small cobblestone block to the hotel.

Avignon is a must see, and Hotel Mercure is in a great location. It’s just a block or two from city center, so a little quieter. The hotel restaurant has good food and wine and a cozy outdoor smoking patio. Make sure you go to breakfast; their spread is amaaazing. You’ll feel very comfortable here.

For me is impossible that this hotel is 4 stars. The rooms are tiny. They don’t offer water. The bath shower is only if you are a superior member. For handicap people I don’t recommend this because you can stay closer to other areas and only take a place do Palais du Papes. In general the room is dirty and not well maintained. Walls dirty, curtains with stains. Etc. Avoid this hotel. The breakfast is very good and decent. Is the unique thing that I recommend from this hotel

We had a wonderful experience at the Mercure Centre Palais des Papes. The room was comfortable and the service fantastic. Special thanks to Noemie, Aldo and Yoanne for your help in making our stay enjoyable.

I was there April 21st, 2023 and the front desk service by Antoine was stellar! I could tell he worked long days seeing him in the lobby morning, afternoon, and evening. Yet he always had a smile on his face and cheer to spread daily. Great guy and what I think of when I look at Hotel Mercures. I used the safe and on that particular day, it wouldn't open. Anthony (Antoine) came to my room to tech and contacted support. I was out on an excursion and stressed that my passport, euros, and dollars were in the safe. A co-worker from the luxury sister location came over and got the safe open while I way away. Anthony texted the good news as I was set to head to Paris the next day. Antoine - vous etes mon super-hero! Alors et maintenant :) If you can get a room with a balcony view, that's the way to experience the town of Avignon.

My wife slipped and fell in the shower due to a very slippery surface. She fell backwards and hit her head, her back, her wrist and ankle. The floor of the shower was so slippery that that she was unable to stand up and I had to lift her up. She sustained sever pain and since returning to England has had several treatments by an Osteopath who is concerned that she may have damaged her spine and will have to have a Scan later this week. We spoke to the receptionist - there was no one else around - who was totally disinterested and did not offer any help, saying that no one had ever complained before about the slippery surface in the shower. I must also say that I found the shower surface very slippery and had warned my wife to be very careful when taking her shower.

Very well located right in the middle of the city. Rooms are clean and the staff is very friendly. Only downside is the lack of parking but if you follow the hotels direction provided far in advance by email your car will be parked very close to the hotel. Avoid large luggage as you will have to carry it for about 300m

Some good and bad: —Great location right next to the Palais —Rooms overall nicely done and decent sized —Service good —Good selection at breakfast and plenty of room to sit down However —The shower is strange. It has a rain head that basically dribbles out and then a hand shower. —The air conditioner kept kicking out so the room would warm up. The bedding is a single heavy comforter so it was either on or off. We had a hard time sleeping which outweighed all the goods. It was noisy enough on the square we could not leave the windows open. I would consider staying here again in the future.

Excellent location right next to the Palais des Papes. Very friendly and helpful male receptionist (unfortunately I forgot to ask his name). However the room was hot and stuffy. The AC didn’t work properly. The shower gel wasn’t filled up. There were no teaspoons in the room. Not all the lights were working. There were just a lot of little little annoying things that made the overall experience of staying in this hotel not a really pleasant one.

Well located just 50m from the Papal Palace, large room, clean, good room service and breakfast. Also, the parking garage was a nice surprise. I feel like this wasn't well advertised and I only found out about it when hotel staff emailed me just before my arrival. Having a parking garage just 50m from the front door made a big difference in the center of Avignon.

Great location next to Palais des Papes, perfect for exploring main sites in Avignon. Welcome from reception was very good. Rooms are ok, decor a little tired. No bar did not have breakfast so can't comment on quality. Main issue if you bring a hire car is finding a parking spot in the underground public car park (20% discount through hotel) as spaces are limited and rather narrow for modern vehicles. Also you have to take your luggage up a flight of steps onto the street to access the hotel. Overall though the location makes that a worthwhile effort!

Booked a room with airco and they just won't turn it on because it's not main season but the room was 30+ Celcius. Stupid argument and I made an official complaint.

The bathroom (at least the one we had) was not the cleanest. Great location. The staff were nice.

Do not be greedy, take the best room #610 with its own rooftop open terrace and direct view on Place du Papes and Palais des Papes - main landmark of Avignon. The room is pretty spacious, with free minibar and Provence wine samples. No need to say that all the points of interest are within walking distance. Good breakfast and friendly staff is the cherry on top.

Very mediocre experience. Our first room was quite frankly not clean (bathtub and entryway carpet) and when the safe didn't work, they transferred our rooms (which was nice). The location is fantastic in the middle of Avignon, yet parking is far away. Front desk staff is very friendly yet seems unable to accommodate out of a rule book. My husband fell ill and they wouldn't allow us an hour later checkout to move him. Not very compassionate! They then wanted to charge us 25% more than our original booking for an extra night (on a Monday in winter when the other rates had been weekend nights). We won't be coming back. Rooms are just ok and the mustard yellow bathrooms are in bad taste. Pillows, beds and bedding are very cheap.

Great location and friendly staff. Though the room lacked basic maintenance, had a poor layout and the ventilation outlet needed cleaning badly. The one small elevator was a disaster.

The location is perfect, just meters away from the Papal Palace. The ‘Racine’ restaurant is excellent and has a gorgeous terrace. The breakfast is fantastic. The rooms are very small and need some refurbishment however.

Worst hotel we have visited in years. Don't even think about booking there. They are certainly very well located, however the tiny lobby, the rooms did not have air conditioning, the stained carpet, the dirty walls, the super small room, the typical bathroom of a highway motel. The hair dryer for some very strange reason cannot be used in the bathroom but only in the room where there is no mirror. We asked to speak to the manager who never called us, nor did she intend to give us an explanation. The only good thing about the hotel was the location and the young man at the front desk who tried to help us but it was impossible due to the conditions of the hotel. A motel and bad. They made us an authorization transaction for 600 dollars that is still pending, a week later. We asked for 3 additional pillows and they only brought one and a folded duvet for us to use as a pillow, which also had a torn lining. Do not go ! Avignon is very beautiful and full of hotels, it is not necessary to be next to the palace of the popes because everything is walkable.

Excellent central location Friendly helpful staff Good size clean room Good quality breakfast The toilet is extremely small that it's a struggle to get in and close the door. This despite the good size room and separate bath. Apart from total structural change to the bath and toilet, they could look into folding or sliding door
