One of best castle ruins in a village we have visited. Outside the castle ruins, there is a plateau. When you walk up to the edges, a 270’ breathtaking view of the surroundings greets you. The walls of the ruins itself have been weathered to some extent which makes some of them look like honeycombs. The ruins extend quite a distance inside and there are 3 places which you can climb up to for better vantage point. For weaponry of medieval times, you can see several trebuchets and a battering ram on the castle grounds. Ticket are priced at EUR 8/adult, which is worth it. Spend a couple of hours here to enjoy the walk and climb. Soak in the history.

The chateau is incredible. The drive to it was rather boring from the port we sailed in on from our cruise. However upon arriving the beauty of the location is really amazing. walking through the small village there are a variety of really fantastic shops including this one that has all these different types of candy and nougat. The view from the top is absolutely astonishing being able to walk around this old chateau going to the very top looking out phenomenal picture opportunity location.

Amazing views and the place is impressive! The castle has a lot of attractions like bows and arrows, stone sculpting and so many others. It has nice little shops and restaurants. It is totally worth the visit. If you are with young kids or older people it could be hard for them to walk at some parts but they can sit down and enjoy beautiful views

I can’t believe that such kind of a castle exists! If you’re next to Provence - I do recommend visiting this place - ancient weapons like trebuchets, halls and chapels in the rock, high walls and amazing view of the valley. There’re so many legends about the castle and the village next to it. My favourite one it that Dante was inspired by the views of this area to write the first part of his Divine Comedy. Visiting g the castle you can take an audio guide in many languages. Very useful. The price for entering is 10€. Please, grab some water as you’re going to move a lot. And come to the place in the morning, otherwise you will have to be looking for a parking place for hours. Btw, the village is one of the most visiting village in France and as beautiful as the surrounding.

Great historic town. Lots to see, shopping, chapels, wonderful views. Go to the first overlook for a panoramic view of the valley below. Can get very crowded, with parking hard to find. Go early!

A must visit for people interested in medieval castles. There’s a video (subtitled in English) playing inside the castle about the region’s (and castle’s) past, which is very informative. Entry to the castle is 8 EUR for adults at the time of writing. The town itself is also very worthwhile: calm and authentic with beautiful sightseeing-spots all over.

A perched village that has survived for centuries in these hills of Provence. Very characteristic full of shops and shops that give a full experience. The castle is huge and dominates the hill, It's practically a ruin, but it welcomes many organizations from the site managers who bring it back to life.Definitely a beautiful place for families that knows how to delight with its numerous views of the gardens or even the archery game as it was back in the day.

Very nice castle on top of the also beautiful village of Les Baux de Provence. There is some animation, crossbow shooting, war machine demonstration. You will need about 1 to 1:30 hours for the visit of the castle, including the town (with lunch or diner) it is half day activity.

Very cool cobbled streets winding up a steep hill. Was more crowded with tourists than I expected which diminished a fair bit of the charm. It was a scorching hot day when I visited and there was little shade.

This is a very old village at the top of a small mountain. It is very charming and very walkable. A word of warning is that it has developed into what appears to be quite the tourist attraction. There are many shops with all sorts of interesting products. Several places to get ice cream and a surprising number of cafés and restaurants, with all having their unique charm. We only had a little over an hour there, so just enough time to walk it quickly and do a little shopping. There is a ruined chateaux at the top that requires paid admission. It looked like it had some interesting displays but I did not have time. I would highly recommend that you dedicate at least a half a day or even a whole day to really appreciate this place.

Super cool castle. Go early before the crowds. Parking is also much easier and the sun is fresh for photo taking. Inside a fun little town with some great shopping. Fantastic views of the French country side from atop the castle. Restrooms are plentiful and food is good near the castle. Very happy I came here to visit.

Lovely and gracious hostesses Mother and Daughter. Fresh regional delicious food -- cheeses, pate, the most beautiful tomatoes and more; in a rustic family setting. Our small group couldn't stop talking about the wonderful time had by all.

Very interesting old ruin and village ( very touristy now) Parking can be a challenge on a busy day tho worth the effort. Lots of cafes in village. Stunning views from castle top.

Quaint area with narrow alleys and cute little shops. Worth the hike! We came by coach but parking doesn’t look great…

Very, very touristy. Crowded during peak season. Basically, a mall in a medieval village with a great view. But if shopping is your thing, then you'll likely love this place. Free public toilet.

While only a few features remain on the site, the castle is still a worthwhile destination to visit, primarily for its panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and the charming village nestled below.

Purchased a combined ticket for castle + carrières des lumières sound and light show in the caves further down from the castle. The visit of the castle is well worth the money imo. Some steep climbs / steps mind you, but perfectly do-able. Some very rewarding panoramic views from the different towers around the perimeter of the site. Signs dotted around the site explain what was located where you are standing. There is an interesting historic link with the Grimaldi family. Kids enjoyed the visit too. You can spend as long as you like here; you can see most of it including nooks and crannies in 1.5h.

The audio guide really helps but Sinema was a bit confusing. The views were amazing but you had to be careful getting to some of them for sure

This was a highlight of our trip. Great old stone town with lots of history. There are plenty of fun stores to get gifts and/or charcuterie cheeses, meats, jellies, wines etc. Also - plan to stop for gelato or a drink and appetizer or dessert.

Visited in March 2023. A good place to spend a whole day at. There are 2 museums, a lot of cafés, restaurants and little shops for tourists. It's interesting to wander around the ruined castle. You can see Medieval siege weapons and read the historical information. There is also an art exhibition.

The public can access a nice area but 10€ to access the castle....? 6€ the parking, 28€ dishes in restaurant...yep it was nice but never again.

We visited this adorable town of Baux in October. It was the perfect time, it was cool and sunny. In Baux there are cute tourist shops, art galleries and a good restaurant overlooking the valley that serves delicious bruschetta (keep to the right in the beginning of the climb and you can't miss it). The Chateau sits on the top of the village, so you need to be able to walk uphill on a rocky surface. I have bad knees, I could do it but it was a bit painful. My boyfriend who is like a goat, ran to the top and down and back up again. He would give this place a 10. It was his favorite village while visiting Provence. The views from the chateau are panoramic. You can see for miles the valleys below. I recommend wearing good shoes with some tread as you have to do a lot of walking uphill and on gravel to see everything. I particularly enjoyed the art galleries in this town. The artists were actually good. The art was not typical tourist scenes of Baux, but modern and well done. I wish I could have spent some more time there to paint plein air but we wanted to see all of Provence in two weeks. It wasn't a plein air painting trip. Perhaps next time.

Wear proper shoes to scale this monstrous city. A good experience, but we went during the summer heat that was torching us. Go at better weather to enjoy the hike up

It was good to stop by after Carrières de Lumières! A lot of restaurants around here but no one served dinner around 6pm.

The view from all sides is wonderful. Entrance to the walls is charged, but it is worth buying a ticket and studying a little history. You have almost the whole of Provence in the palm of your hand, the view of beautiful olive fields and vineyards is endless. The streets of the town are cute, small, with souvenir shops. The people who work there are cheerful and kind. A wonderful experience.

Make sure that you wear your walking shoes!! You will need them. Parking is a bit of a nightmare but we finally found somewhere and started the walk up and up and up. The cobbles look lovely but they are uneven. There are plenty of shops selling expensive plates, chocolate and wine. We weren’t sure where to eat and ended up getting sandwiches which we ate on a bench while we enjoyed the view. The chateau itself is very high up! There is lots of climbing and some very worn rock steps which were amazing to look at and a little bit scary to walk down. If you’re in the area it is definitely worth a visit but I wouldn’t recommend shopping there unless you are not on a budget.

Enjoyed exploring this area. They had people dressed in the clothes of the time performing some of the activities you would have seen during this time. Very cool.

I'm a regular visitor to the Baux de Provence every time I travel to Provence with house guests. This medieval town perched high up on the hill is so interesting. The view from the castle over the Alpilles is amazing.

Extraordinary place to learn about the history of this medieval castle in the heart of the Provence region in France. The views are amazing!!! The ticket price is 16.50€ and includes a ticket for the close-by carrière des Lumières, an artsy place to visit (a former quarry with light shows featuring work from famous artists). Around the castle, there are lots of tiny shops you should really go and visit. The staff is very friendly and funny!

A must visit place. Very interesting and historical place. The climb is not difficult but you have to be very careful because it could be very windy above. Entrance fee is 10 Euro per head. Take lots of pictures from above the view is really amazing. Parking space is available below.

👍 An interesting tiny church carved into the rock....... There was a wedding when we were there, lending a festive atmosphere in this ancient space! Could not find the history of this place, but worth visiting nonetheless.
