What a spectacular historical site. Perfect place to spend the day outdoors with kids and dogs. Lots of lovely walking trails and beautiful scenery. There’s a climb up the hill next to the bridge which leads to a panoramic view point, which is definitely worth the climb.

The Pont du Gard Aqueduct is the tallest of its kind in the world and it sure is impressive. Definitely worth the visit, especially in the summer, when at 22:30 you can watch projections displayed on the structure. You can also bathe in the crystal clear river water and swim right under the arches. Now make sure to go to the correct side of the river, depending on what time you'd like to enter. The side with the museum closes at 19:30, the other side is open until late night. Entrance is 5€ with parking included or free if you're a student. Overall, definitely recommend the visit!

Roman aqueduct, museum and Mediterranean gardens. This historic site is on the UNESCO world heritage list and is a location where you could spend all day or just an hour to see the basics of the site. It is an affordable adventure for the entire family.

This bridge is legendary, the place is very special. At any time of the day you can feel a fascination and all tourists behave with equal respect and consideration. This is particularly noticeable in the garbage that ends up in the trash can here and not in nature. Most people approach from the left side because that's where the parking lot is. The bridge takes you to the right side of the river and there is also a nice swimming opportunity there. What makes the place so fascinating? On the one hand, the history, an enormous construction achievement. On the other hand, the play of colors at all times of the day. All the people start building a small dam out of the stones. Whether 5 years old or over 70 years old. 15 years ago you could still cross the bridge at the very top of the watercourse. This is now blocked. Nevertheless, the climb is worth it because the view of the bridge is unique. Likewise the tunnel above, which also had to be built for the aqueduct.

(Translated by Google) 20 years ago I proposed to my students the technical-artistic analysis of Agrippa's masterpiece: from the source near Uzès to the castellum of Nemausus, for the development of 50km., Average gradient 34 cm. x Km. Differential altitude 17m. Those who know the physics of water will understand (water is an incompressible gas so if it gains speed it causes disasters). At the Pont-du-Gard museum the data are a little different, source altitude: m. 71.25 Castellum share 58.947, difference m. 12.303, average gradient 24.6 cm.x km. Specification: in the Guide du site there is a clamorous dating error as well as in the English text; not first century after Christ, but first before Christ, or rather 734 from the foundation of ROME. After checking the online information, about the dating, the following appears: 19 BC with Augustus and 40/50 AD with Claudius. ASK solution of the vexed question. Further clarification: Claudio was born in Lugdunum, Lyon (Lyons) on 1. 08. 10 BC and dies in 54. The French would say it French! Similarly, assuming that Europe is a Roman creation then destroyed by the babelic and nationalistic under Christian culture still operating, here are some examples: Augustus was Roman and not Italian, Trajan and Adriano Romani and not Spaniards, Marcus Aurelius Roman and not Austrian, Septimius Severus Roman and not Libyan, Caracalla Roman and not French, Alexander Severus Roman and not Lebanese, Maximin Trace Roman and not Greek, Philip the Roman Arab and not Syrian, Roman Diocletian and not Croatian, Constantine Roman and not Serbian, Julian the Apostate Roman and not Turkish. Although Cologne was Roman, it did not give birth to any German emperor, but only to the perfidious Agrippina mother of Nero and wife of Claudius in third marriage. Sic transit gloria Europae! It does not seem paradoxical that the North American state model is in fact closer to Roman Europe than to this one. Revised on July 30 and August 16, 2020. To return to the vexed question, among my books I found with surprise the text on Nimes-Pont du Gard (Editrice Bonechi, Florence 1987) Italian edition of the French original edited by Yvette Gambini and Jean Georges d'Hoste, translation by Madeleine Menvielle Sali, well here is the incipit on page. 14: "For Agrippa Marcus Vipsanius, governor of Gaul in the name of Emperor Octavian from 20 to 19, no problem: if Nemausus wanted to expand and prosper, he had to supply it with water, which he sent to find throughout the region ..." Therefore the dating under Caligula and Claudius, 58/74 years later, established in France is suspect.

The bridge is nice to see. We came from the left side (the rive gauche) and parked at the official parking lot (9 Euros). It was July 1, a Saturday, and a hot sunny day. There were many people but not crowded to the point that you could not enjoy it. The area has a sit-down restaurant as well as a more casual place to get food and sit at available tables (no service). There is also a museum (the fee is extra) and other indoor, also paid extra, places, a theater. When you cross the bridge to the other side, immediately go up the trail and keep going up until you can see the other side of the bridge. The dirt terrain is very rocky and uneven, and if it rains or rained recently it would be certainly muddy and slippery. Do not wear sandals or flip flops. Definitely tennis shoes or boots. That side is very isolated and quiet.

„Wie Sie wissen, erhebt sich dieses Bauwerk, das ein einfaches Aquädukt war, majestätisch inmitten tiefster Abgeschiedenheit. Die Seele sieht sich in ein langes und tiefes Erstaunen versetzt. Ich glaube, nicht einmal vor dem Kolosseum in Rom habe ich so wie hier zu träumen gemeint“ Stendhal, Reisen in Südfrankreich (1854). Das trifft es auf den Kopf.

The Pont du Gard is an impressive testament to ancient engineering, standing majestically over the river below. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, it's a marvel that connects us directly to the ingenuity of the Romans. The scenery around the bridge is picturesque, offering panoramic views that are a treat for the eyes and a haven for photographers. The lush greenery and the gently flowing river create a tranquil ambiance that's perfect for a leisurely stroll or a picnic. I visited on a weekend, and as expected, it was quite bustling with visitors. If you prefer a quieter experience, I'd recommend going before noon when the crowds are thinner.

Pont du Gard and the accompanying museum are great experiences for all, especially so for the history fan. The aqueduct itself is truly impressive in scale and in concept. Learning about what the Romans accomplished with this feat of engineering and construction while standing on a 2000 year old structure can be quite an experience. You have access to both sides of the river and can even easily access for river for a short dip or just to put your feet in the water. A nice coffee/snack place and a restaurant also are on site at the aqueduct. The museum is very well done with multiple language displays in both full and small scale and give a great view of the purpose, design and actual construction. Both physical and audio/visual displays. Well worth the small fee. Parking is included if you buy the museum entrance.

A must visit. The area is really very big and you can comfortably visit it in a day preparing to climb around all the site and the mountains around. In summer you can get in the river as well.

Just amazing. Unbelievable architecture for it's time. Really impressive seeing it up close. €9 for parking but then free to visit the site. Worth seeing from above viewpoints, down on the riverbed, and take the walk across to the other side. Take your swimmers for a cool off dip after!

Amazing place to visit. The bridge itself is astonishing. There is a big car park nearby, you pay 9€ for the whole day and you get to access the area for free. Don't miss the view points that allow you to see the bridge from above. We visited in July and the temperature was torrid, but it was absolutely worth it.

The Pont du Gard is truly a marvel to behold, with its gigantic aqueduct showcasing incredible Roman architecture. Seeing it in person is even more awe-inspiring. The sheer scale of the structure is amazing! In addition to its architectural significance, there's also a swimming area nearby, adding to the appeal. However, it's important to note that the area can get scorching hot, so be prepared for the heat when visiting. Overall, experiencing the Pont du Gard is an unforgettable journey back in time and a testament to the ingenuity of ancient engineering.

The Pont du Gard is an architectural masterpiece that truly captivates with its fascinating design. Its majestic arches, meticulously constructed by the ancient Romans, stand as a testament to their engineering prowess. The bridge's blend of form and function is simply awe-inspiring. Surrounded by breathtaking natural beauty, the Pont du Gard offers stunning scenery that enhances the overall experience. The gentle flow of the river beneath the bridge adds to the tranquil atmosphere, making it a perfect place to relax and soak in the surroundings. One of the notable aspects of this site is its commitment to cleanliness and environmental preservation. The Pont du Gard is remarkably well-maintained, ensuring that visitors can appreciate its historical and natural charm without distraction. The crystal-clear waters of the river that runs beneath the bridge are a sight to behold, and the opportunity to swim or simply dip your toes in this pristine river is a refreshing bonus. I left the Pont du Gard with a deep sense of wonder and a promise to myself that I would revisit this extraordinary place someday. It's a destination that leaves a lasting impression and beckons you to return, making it a must-visit for anyone seeking a blend of history, natural beauty, and tranquility.

What an experience! The bridge is such a jaw-dropping piece of architecture, and there is so much to see and do here. You can go swimming and hiking, you can chill and eat with a view, you can buy souvenirs, and you can visit the museum and exhibitions. Entrance is free of charge (the museum and exhibition cost extra), and parking is 9€ for 24 hours (you could even stay overnight with a caravan or mobile home, if you don’t need any amenities or electricity). In my opinion a perfect and affordable place for a day out. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!

This is a MUST-SEE. It's truly a wonder of engineering and stone work. There's a parking fee. But it's waived for the modest admission price. The welcome center gives an excellent history. Staff is friendly and helpful The grounds are immaculate and well maintained. Pathways and trails clearly marked. The first thing you see on the path is an olive tree dating back to 908 AD. You can climb to the top of the structure with combination of pathway and steps. It's a pretty easy climb. At the top, hiking trails lead off in all directions. A few of them take you to overlook points where you can see the aqueduct and the entire river valley. In the late 1800s / early 1900s a bridge was built alongside the ancient structure, so you can cross over. On the other side are swimming areas and a restaurant. Plan to spend some time here. I highly recommend hiking to the overlooks . . . the first one only about 1000 m from the top of the structure

(Translated by Google) A technical miracle, the Roman Bridge has been reflected in the moiré waters of the Gard for almost two thousand years. If its visit in summer is not an easy one, seeing it in winter, on Christmas day like today, gives the site all its majesty. Indeed, there is no one left and the temple merchants have all left! Long live tranquility!

(Translated by Google) You can hardly get any closer to Roman history in France, because the view of this imposing structure made of huge stones without mortar impresses everyone. You should plan at least four hours, because the museum is also worth seeing and provides interesting background information in an entertaining way. In addition, it is worth looking at the bridge from different perspectives with its different lighting conditions. Last but not least, I recommend a visit to the Garigue landscape in the spacious area, where you can also explore the ancient water pipe system.

It's amazing to see what the Romans were able to do 2.000 years ago. The Pont du Gard was built about 19 BC to lead water into the town of Nîmes. Fun fact: The 5-euro bill depicts a Roman aqueduct strongly resembling the Pont du Gard in Nîmes, France. The banknotes are the work of the Austrian designer Robert Kalina. Kalina claims to have distorted the pictures of famous European buildings on his computer. He did not want so show a specific construction, he said, but the entire European building history.

How does one comment on a historical monument nested within a natural space? It’s a sublime place and wonderful. The visitor parking was placed nicely a distance away and that helped preserve a wonderful atmosphere to approach Pont du Gard from, just brilliant. Take the scenic climb to enjoy it from all view points, it’s lovely.

Very beautiful even after all these years. You can either enjoy the view or go swimming. We paid 9€ for parking, there's a "touist area" with shops and so on, I guess that's necessary, but it didn't really deduct anything from the overall experience.

Unfortunately we visited on a rainy day, but the bridge still looks beautiful. If you’re there on a sunny day, take your time and walk the route provided around the bridge. For best pictures, walk a bit farther to get an overview of the bridge. You can find more information about the bridge at the museum which only costs €6.50. It can be a bit crowded (we were there on a weekday and there were plenty of people) and you will need to pay €9 for parking.

While I was walking to the aqueduct I already had high expectations. However no amount of reading or picture analyising can prepare you for this immense testiment to the Roman's architectural prowess. The surrounding parks and amenities are beautiful but are designed in a way that does not distract from the aqueduct. If you bring a swim suit and a towel you can easily make a day out of this attraction, as a perfectly swimmable river flows underneath the aqueduct.

(Translated by Google) The highest bridge and aqueduct built by the Romans in the 1st century. A grandiose site, not only for the impressive monument, but also for the beauty of the landscapes: the banks of the Gardon and the scrubland traversed by many small paths. Possibility to park in Remoulins and walk on a path the 2 km to the site. Possibility to visit the aqueduct only in summer and by reservation. If the picnic on the banks of the Gardon doesn't seem like a good option, a restaurant is located at the foot of the monument. I haven't eaten there, but the staff are very friendly. The Pont du Gard and the surrounding area is well worth a visit. The several thousand year old Roman aqueduct unites with the idyllic course of the Gardon. In the summer months you can visit the aqueduct from above, the history museum is open to visitors all year round. Definitely worth a visit.

The bridge is incredible and the area is great. The staff were very friendly. I wish they had better lighting in the museum exhibit area, it was poorly lit with no lighting on the floor walkways & some of the text displays were not illuminated at all. Had to use my phone torch to follow some of the text 😂 as a Lighting Designer myself I can see the style they were going for but it’s way too dark down there! Also wish they had lockers to put a motorbike helmet but staff were very kind and let me leave it behind ticket desk for the hour

The Pont du Gard is an amazing structure on its own not even to mention that it was built in 20 years over 2000 years ago. Like many amazing places, pictures do not do justice to actually being there. We were there on a busy day with many French families on holiday but that did not distract from the experience.

An absolute impressive ancient monument. Definitely a place you need to visit. There are some great restaurants and the surrounding area is kept very clean. The path's are all well build and everything's accessible by wheelchair.

Awesome attraction.... Paid €19 for the four of us (two teenagers were free) keep your ticket at the visitor centre as this is what you use to leave the car park(not the one you get when entering the car park) the ticket stays valid for the evening light show at 10.30pm if you fancy it..you can also swim in the river so take some bathers and towels with you You walk along the lower part of the bridge and down to the river..check out the amazing two olive trees just before you get to the bridge

This place is amazing. At first I was blown away to see this huge Roman aquaduct still standing after 2000 years, but I was even more blown away when I learned in the museum that it was part of huge project of bridges and tunnels that carried water for 50km from a spring to the Roman city of Nîmes! The world-class museum is fantastic and a must-visit. At the end of the museum tour is a large area with the entire 50km aquaduct reconstructed in a large square, showing the route the water took from the spring to Nîmes, and each architectural feature has a small model with information on its current state and what is still left. Most people we saw walking through the building skipped this part of the museum as it was toward the end, but it was my favorite. It really shows the scope of the insane project that the Romans took on. The whole facility at Pont du Gard, from the parking to the walkways, museum, movie theater, shop and restaurant are top notch. A great place to spend a few hours.

A great spot with many different trails that allow you to take in the view of the aqueduct from different perspectives. The Right Bank trail takes you to the top of the aqueduct, and while you cannot access it, it gives you a good view from the top. If you have the time, relax and enjoy the numerous trails. The markings are not all that clear, so be mindful of your direction. There is lots to explore here.

One of the oldest "wonders" of France. Prepare to spend a couple of days here during the Summer. The evening light shows are fantastic.

This is a must see destination. Read up on the history of how this was built 2000 years ago with engineering that would be challenging to duplicate today. There is a restaurant and toilet close to the aqua duct. Worth the entrance fee and includes parking.

What a great experience!! Pack a picnic and enjoy a swim in the river or put on your walking shoes and walk the beautiful forest area. The views are spectacular, there is a restaurant and café, curio shop and toilets. 9euro parking fee per vehicle and no entrance fee.

You think an aqueduct is nothing special? Think again! This is the tallest Roman bridge-aqueduct in the world, standing at 48m high, which dates back over 2000 years. The whole area is well-maintained and almost like a huge park. It is perfect for a Picknick, a meal on the terrace of the restaurant with a view of the aqueduct a mountain bike tour, a hike or just to chill near the river and have a swim in summer.

  • 5/5 Grace T. 1 year ago on Google
Pont du Gard was amazing. To be able to walk over it and view it from both sides of the river was fantastic. To see the structure that was built by the Romans so long ago was just mind blowing.

Very nice place to visit. You can swim in the river or walk in the nature. The Pont du Gard is a impressive piece of construction from the ancient Roman Empire

Another lovely Roman project still in good shape! We arrived quite late but still have fantastic time here. We have to deep in the tempting water as well . Warm and clean with rocky beaches and rocky bed (water shoes helped children). Sadly we leaving soon and can't come back for more this year! I don't think the all day parking charge is expensive at all €9! You can't please everyone! Coffee /ice-cream and snacks on site also clean toilets! Highly recommended!

The whole area is massive. Obviously the highlight is the fabulous bridge and the history behind it and you can pay for a tour. You can spend the whole day there. Parking payable on the way out at the ticket office is 9 euros. A restaurant and snack bar are on site or bring a picnic. People were swimming in the river and on small 2 people kayak/canoe type boats. Lots of walking and biking routes are also signposted.

  • 5/5 Sal F. 1 year ago on Google
An impressive structure that really needs to be seen in person to understand the scale of it and the fact it was built so long ago. There are many different viewing sites on either side that one can climb up to that will provide some great views of the structure. A great place to bring a lunch and enjoy the beautiful view.

  • 5/5 nidhin c. 1 year ago on Google
It's the most visited site in France and it's a UNESCO World Heritage site, that says something about it. The parking is charged at 9€ per vehicle and there are no other charges for visiting the site but the museum visit is at additional cost. The place is quite beautiful and has small hiking paths all around it, you can get some pretty good views of the aqueduct if you venture a little into the woods.

  • 5/5 Celia F. 1 year ago on Google
Impressive monument in an outstanding environment. Great place to visit with family and friends and stay for a picnic and some nice walks. You can take your car in the parking for 9 euros and spend the whole day there. Everything is clean, well explained and prepared for a nice visit!

  • 5/5 Jim W. 1 year ago on Google
Tallest and most preserved of the Roman aqueducts. Well worth the 30-40 minute ride out of Avignon to see. If you are an engineer, in particular, you marvel at the feet given it was built in the first century. Cost 9€ to park. No one there in December but the size of the parking lot suggests it is busy and crowded in summer. Road signs make it easy to find.

  • 5/5 Daniela B. 8 months ago on Google
Fantastic place to visit. This is great spot for a picnic, wild swimming and canoeing. All with this stunning Roman bridge as a backdrop. In summer there is a free drone and light show that is definitely worth watching.

  • 5/5 Kelly A. 9 months ago on Google
This is one of the coolest things to see. How Roman made things still are around still stuns me and many, not something often seen in the United States. Easy to walk and if you go further down, can get great photos as well as dip you toes in the water on a hot day.

  • 4/5 Siewling L. 9 months ago on Google
Parking is not cheap, it’s 9EUR for the day no matter how long you stay but many people still come. It was quite nice and quiet when we arrived early in the morning but the carpark was quite full by the time we left. There are many hiking trails but most people just stick to the main ones which get really crowded. Many people also swim in the river below the bridge. The bridge itself is magnificent looking and there are different viewpoints to look at it but can be done quite quickly and it’s the only attraction around.

  • 5/5 Louis M. 8 months ago on Google
What a masterpiece! Absolute treasure in the middle of the nature. The place may be crowded during the day. However the best time to visit is probably sunrise as it is very calm and perfect to enjoy the warm colors reflecting on the bridge.

Wonderful human creation and stunning location. We took a biking trail from Hotel La Bégude St Pierre which is an easy walk (a bit up and down hill) 2 km long through olive orchards and some woods.

  • 5/5 Judith S. 8 months ago on Google
Hier darf man sogar baden.

A huge monument that blends into the landscape ... pure poetry. Since Roman times this aqueduct has remained standing and demonstrates its solidity and quality, but the most beautiful thing is how man managed to enhance it and merge it with his interests. The Rhône River is used as a seaside resort where everyone gathers to have fun and enjoy a day of relaxation. I really liked it and it is definitely worth its fame, so why not pay us a visit? 🤩

  • 3/5 weber l. 7 months ago on Google
Good to see, more like local attraction than must see for foreign visitors. Many water activities, not many facilities. Free to visit, paid parking. 15mins walk from parking to the bridge.

Insanely big bridge, fun to crawl down by the water and see all the fish. Super deep water. The lakeside (I went in early October) is full of frogs, tadpoles, fish and the water is comfortable to sleep in, unlike the freezing cold coastal beaches. Kind of hard to find parking with the working hours and their parking lot, but if you park near the hotel La Bégude Saint- Pierre (A BEAUTIFUL quiet hotel, nice pool and bar) and use GPS for a short beautiful walk through a biking path, you can reach the bridge easily. Lots of blue and green jumping crickets (don’t jump on them!) If you can, highly recommend kayaking along the river. Until next time, Pont Du Gard! ❤️🤍💙 / 💙🤍❤️

If you are just stopping for a quick snap photo, you'll find the 9€ parking fee a lot. But take your picknic basket with you, a towel in case you anyer the river, and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the ancient Bridge. Walk around and up o the viewing points and on the way back a coffee or an ice cream at the little bistro.
