Moldy Rooms & Moldy Breakfast 2nd edit including original review: When we checked in and went to our room on the fourth floor, there was a smell of mold in the hallway, and then a stronger smell from inside room 416. There was yellowing and peeling on the walls from some sort of water damage. We informed Hugo and Kristiana at the front desk that we couldn’t stay in a room that smelled so strongly of mold. Hugo said that he thought the mold smell must be coming from the air conditioning, and having turned the air conditioning off, the smell would dissipate. Not as comforting to us as I think he thought it would be! Just to be sure, we asked our neighbors in Room 418 to smell our room and let us smell theirs. 418 smelled fine, but the hallway smelled and room 416 was a strong and notable stench. After an hour of waiting with the air conditioning off, the room was still smelling of mold, no less than our first entry to the room. 1st edit: TLDR, Room 416 smelled strongly of mold, front desk agreed and blamed the AC. 2hrs after AC was shut & the stench remained. “Sold out et complet” there was no hope of an alternative room for us… *miraculously* after leaving a 1 star review they were able to downgrade us into a new room for one night and upgrade for the final two. Terribly inconvenient and stressful, but resolved properly in the end. Edit 3: seeing the hotel respond to blame the weather, the “most sensitive guests” and the AC, it is impossible for me not to reiterate that there was. Solution found only after I made a 1 star review and showed the front desk. After having seen now 4 other rooms, 416 was the only room not renovated with new parquet, but old carpet. Perhaps there is a leak in the roof that has allowed Avignon’s famous flooding to impact the hotel. I will reiterated that this was not a simple musty smell like in a church or in a basement, but an extremely strong & unmistakeable odor of BLACK MOLD, confirmed by all members of our group, and the reception. Please refer to the photos of the yellowing and peeling wall. I hope they can quickly renovate the rest of the rooms that need it before more guests suffer or someone gets ill because of the mold problem. Thank you for responding because it shows the exact level of poor customer service we dealt with upon check in. I would recommend admitting when you have a mistake instead of embarrassing yourself in the google review comments, perhaps if you spent less time responding to reviews and more time improving the hotel, you wouldn’t have these issues. Avoid Hotel de L’Horologe Avignon

The hotel is located in an excellent location with restaurants close by at walking distance. Customer service is friendly and helpful. We requested a quiet room and glad we did because our friends were in another room with a window to the street and they said they wake up during the night because of the cars noise and loud talking on the streets (we learned it was soccer related). The room was clean and small with a nice terrace. The bed was too soft and small (a French thing?) Also, I recommended to read the fine print because We booked with breakfast included and when checked in, They told us breakfast was not included. At the checkout they said that breakfast was included. So, we missed breakfast and had to go out (cheaper). The service was good, the room was kept clean. Shower/bathtub does not have a handle to grab, so, you have to be careful when exiting the shower. You may slip , fall and hurt yourself.

Exceptional staff in a quaint hotel in a perfect location in Avignon. Breakfast was excellent each morning. Our original booking was delayed due to covid. Integrity of hotel impeccable as original terms were honored and even received a small refund - very unexpected. This hotel was a pleasant and relaxing experience after starting our trip in Paris. My wife and I would only stay at this hotel should we return to Avignon.

Had a great stay at the Hotel De L'Horloge. The location is excellent and the staff is caring and attentive. Breakfast is excellent. The hotel is in a very old restored building and as such some of the rooms and bathrooms tend to be small. If you are staying more than a few days it may make sense to upgrade your room to one of the larger room types. Overall our stay was excellent.

A beautifully decorated hotel with modern bathroom fixtures. Room is quite spacious for European standards. They offer a nice breakfast in a lovely indoor terrace. The staff were very nice and friendly, too! You can request a quiet room if you prefer not to face the plaza. Highly recommend!

The location was perfect - situated right next to City Hall. The staff was friendly, and we really appreciate the bottle of rose and olive oil as presents to celebrate our anniversary. The room size was petite, but it is on par with the hotel rooms we stayed in France, although the bathroom here was pretty large. There was a bit of a miscommunication with our to-go breakfast, but it got resolved quickly.

great location, but small room, also risk of no breakfast without refund even though you paid the breakfast.

In the heart of the city, it is a clean and cute hotel. Gentleman in the reception was so kind to us. Breakfast is good too. Merci!

Great location. You need to climb stairs in order to reach your room. No public area. Not enough storage area in the room.

Sweety hotel located in Avignon city center, next to all monument in the city, the room is clean, calm and with local architecture, the breakfast is complet with a good service from a breakfast responsible. Good rate of quality/price, I recommend Hotel de L'horloge.

Terrible! The room was TINY, had no water for the boiler so I took one from the minibar and they charged me 8€ for a small water bottle! Moreover, the sheets were dirty when we checked in. I definitely recommend not going to this hotel.

A really great hotel. The staff was friendly and spoke great English. The location is incredible, inside the old city walls and right next to many places to eat, modern art museum Collection Lambert and the Palace of the Popes. The plane is made from 2 buildings that were connected together so there's some idiosyncrasies to the layout but if you want a boring predictable hotel with long boring hallways that all look the same go to Las Vegas. Europe is about the vibes. The daily breakfast was really next level, something I don't say often about a complimentary hotel breakfast. In conclusion it's a bit expensive but worth the price if you want a really comfortable experience in the center of Avignon. Great work L'équipe Horloge!

I am a travel agent who booked a Junior Suite with a double and twin bed in the Hotel de L'Horloge for check-in March 6/23 for two elderly clients (one is 95 years of age). Clients were put in miniscule room (NOT A JUNIOR SUITE), with one bed and an ensuite bathroom the size of a telephone booth. They were offered no assistance with their luggage at all. Front desk recommended and made a reservation at a local restaurant for my clients - which was also a horrendous experience. My clients are seasoned travellers - they are not demanding. I am outraged that Hotel de L'Horloge treated them SO disrespectfully. DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL.

A warm welcome with very helpful conscientious staff, the hotel oozes charm. Our room on the top floor had an outdoor patio overlooking the rooftops amazing view. The bed and bedding were top notch, good shower, fluffy towels and quality all around. Breakfast was superb. Helped us with a great dinner reservation and booked us a car to the TGV station.

I stayed four nights in a tradition room with a small terrace. The room, like many European hotels, was very tiny, even for one person. Glad to have a tiny terrace (surprisingly, it had an outdoor shower which I never used) . The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable but it is in an old building so the floor was uneven with soft spots (probably due to water damage), the lighting in the bathroom was totally inadequate, and I could hear my neighbors at night. The service was ok but not very personal. But location was excellent, not far from main attractions.

We stayed at this hotel for 5 nights while making day trips from Avignon. The room was wonderful (junior suite): clean, huge and separate bathroom and toilet. The hotel staff was attentive, friendly and always ready to accommodate our questions and needs. The location is perfect for access to the walking streets, palace, old city, river and for a quick exit from town for day trips. The downside of the location is the noise from the square and parking. However, the benefits of the location outweigh these two minor issues. The hotel room has insulated windows but you still get some noise from the square in early morning hours. The parking at the Mercure garage worked out fine but is not right by the hotel. Again, for the benefits of the hotel location, a walk to the garage is not an issue. Overall, this hotel and staff made for a great experience for an extended stay.

Clean, friendly staff, in a very centrical part of town. The rooms facing the court yard can be a bit noisy at night due to the restaurant/bar downstairs.

The hotel was great, super cute and quaint. The room was a little small for two people, but the location made up for it! Within walking distance from everything, including the Avignon Centre TER, the hotel was perfect. We didn't have the breakfast there, but there were cute little croissants left out for the guests every day, which was such a great touch! The hotel staff was lovely and there are a number of restaurants around, within close proximity. All in all a lovely stay :)

Very central and very nice Hotel in beautiful Avignone! We had a great night and they were so nice and kind that they offered us a delicious Champagne for our honeymoon! Thanks again!

The location of the hotel is excellent. A reasonable walk from the train station if your bags are on wheels. Located right in the city center square. The staff is professional and helpful. The rooms are adequate and have everything you need. The breakfast is out of this world!!!! The French do an absolutely amazing job with breakfast. There was a club next door that was very loud until 0400. Sounded like a comedy club. That needs to be shut down. Other than that this is a great hotel...the breakfast!!!!!!!!

We had never been to Avignon and were excited to see what it had to offer. Hôtel de l'Horloge Avignon was the perfect place to reside for four days. The staff was professional, informative, friendly and genuine in their every interaction. They provided excellent dining references, sites to visit, and help in maneuvering the city. We loved our corner room over looking the square below. The breakfast buffet each morning and wait staff were excellent. This is a wonderful hotel located in the perfect spot of the walled city!

Convenient location near central Avignon, good service. Not easy to reach because it's in the historical centre, no parking nearby and WiFi in the rooms not very good. Rooms as expected for an hotel in a very old building, French style.

Friendly reception. Old historical building with some character, but hotel and rooms are little run-down. Overpriced - they sell the location. The kettle was not working, and they promised to replace it... but nothing happened. Hotel is not wheel-chair suited. Breakfast was excellent.

We were sent here after our initial lodging proved to be inaccessible to mobility impaired. If I had unlimited resources, I might have stayed a month!! Front desk personnel were so helpful and told us how to get our US Covid 19 Vaccine cards switched to the French sanitary certificate. Not one problem after that. Great location. Simply great everything!! If you want a view of the street, and the goings-ons, ask if room 310 is available.

My wife and I stayed at the hotel on recommendation of a friend. We could not have been more pleased. Our Junior Suite was roomy and the facilities wer nicely done. I cannot say enough about the staff's helpfulness and attitude. We stayed in room 312 which looks out on two side over the Place de l'horloge. The entire experience was a real treat.

this is an intimate and cozy hotel with an excellent location. It may not be the most beautiful and modern hotel in town, but what makes it so successful is the great service! We got a personal treatment and a warm welcome from all the hotel employees. Everyone was so happy to help us in a kindly way. Aida and the rest of the team have made our stay pleasant. thank you so much. Assaf Zagrizak and Orel
