Grand Cafe Barretta

Restaurant

🫤 Do not order the côté de bœuf! Worst cut of meat we have ever had, mostly fat and the little bit of meat that was in the steak was completely sinuous. Photo is of all the fat remaining, majority of the steak … sides and salads were ok, otherwise do not recommend. People often mention service, good, staff, Avignon,

This is THE hidden gem inside the city centre! A superb lunch and wine list. We loved the artichoke entree and main, tender chicken with asparagus special! Beautiful menu with an outstanding team! Superb!

Ordered the Entrecôte, worst steak I ever had in my life. Very tough (most likely from very old cow), unseasoned and overcooked. I fell in their trap as the restaurant is very pretty from outside. Avoid at all costs. So many other amazing restaurants nearby. Dont waste your money here.

The food was good, but the service ruined the whole experience. We were a group of 4 couples that ordered a variety of dishes; appetizers and main courses. Me and my boyfriend got our appetizers first. After 10 minutes everyone got their main dishes (except for us). After a 20 min wait I went up to check with the waiter, they seemed annoyed by me asking and said the food was coming. We waited another 20 min before the food finally arrived. No apology whatsoever that the food arrived 40 min later than the other dishes. When we tried to ask why our food arrived so much later than everyone else's they got annoyed again. The waiter said that it was supposed to be like that and switched over to speaking french and left our table. Incredibly arrogant. The service ruined what could have been a nice evening. I wouldn't recommend eating here.

Thats been several times « giving a chance » to this place and every time ended up on a negative note. Server - never to be found. Impossible to ask for something, waited forever to place an order. The tables next to us had same issue (same server). But not only him, whoever from the staff is inattentive. Food - barely warm. I never had my dish hot. It’s either already cold or slightly warm. The only plus - nice location. But it’s truly a luck for them. (My point of view as a local foodie).

In the shade of a beautiful tree we shaded from the hot afternoon sun at a classic bistro. Great authentic French food priced very reasonably, a good wine menu with many local additions, and kind and helpful service. Seemed to be amidst locals - always a good sign - who warmly helped us with the wine choice. Enjoyed this very much.

We came here everyday during our stay in Avignon. The service and attention to detail is perfect and the vibe of the square is excellent. We’d like to acknowledge Jules for his outstanding customer service in perfect English. Thank you!

It’s a large restaurant. Polite and decent service, however the food was bland, rose came out warm (ice required) and the bread was stale (asked for fresher but more of the same). Lovely setting in the square but unfortunately a let down overall. Only poor experience in Avignon and just shy of €100 for 3 courses plus drinks for 2 - go to smaller restaurants (there are plenty of lovely options) where better food, drink and overall they are a better experience for the money.

We had a delicious lunch off the set lunch menu here. It’s on a lovely plaza. Everyone was friendly and they brought an extra plate for our daughter to share with us. She happily ate our mashed potatoes, veal and shrimp. One point off because we ordered at 12:30 and were only told later the entree was sold out. They offered an alternative which was ok. When it was time for dessert it was also sold out so we skipped it. So do arrive earlier for lunch than us!

Very nice cafe with a gorgeous outdoor setting. It's extended hours made it our go-to experience multiple times during our stay in Avignon.

Lovely restaurant in a small square in the middle of old town Avignon. Service was great and attentive, food is excellent and a good variety, staff spoke good English and the place is defo popular with locals as well as with tourists.

Terrible experience. Beautiful square and ambiance but rude service and big issue with the drinks.

Came for breakfast, sat for around 15 minutes to find they didn't have 1/2 the menu. Ordered a coffee and it came cold. Would have been better to stop at a bakery on a walk. After 20 years of visiting France, was first time I didn't leave a tip.

I can only save the cheese plat. Otherwise: a glass of red wine that was served was cold (probably kept in the fridge), the dish that I have ordered (duck breast) was incorrect and the meat had a strange backtaste (like it was unfrozen). A bar that pretends to be like a Bistrot is not a good solution. ABSOLUTELY NOT RECOMMENDED

A nice spot in the middle of Avignon for drinks in the evening. They also serve a perfectly acceptable breakfast, although I should note that the coffee was a little disappointing. Service was also a little slow and it was hard to get anyone's attention when we wanted more drinks/food.

Good meal, but very slow service: more than 1 hour to get the second course. Menu No setup to received people from other countries. Just French. Terrace without light at night. Difficult to see your meal.

My wife and I visited Avignon were fortunately led to this gem of a restaurant on the place Saint Didier by our host here in town. The presence of this lovely corner of France is where the magic begins and the dinner waiting inside for us made us come back multiple times while in Avignon. The lamb dish, the trout, the chicken and then the entrecote, which was the best I've had in France in the past 20 years. The staff were very professional and very kind and engaging as well as very busy. It is a locals dream and we are so glad to have found it. We hope to return again and again. Perfection.

Worst service, best from frozen croissant. I popped by here to grab a quick latte and croissant. The place looked busy which I thought was a good sign and it was a Sunday and no other place/bakery was open. Half the tables in the shade were empty and "reserved" and the only tables they allowed to accommodate me were in the sun (in 100 degrees Fahrenheit) or next to a guy who was chain-smoking (being prone to asthma attacks, and communicating that to the staff, this table was a nonstarter). They refused open any tables that were in the shade/ away from the smoker. The next logical option was to order what I wanted to go and avoid the total lack accommodations/service all together - To which I got the most illogical response. "our goods are for our customers." There seems to be a fundamental confusion with how commerce works. If I'm buying your product and offering to take it with me, I am a customer. If are you unwilling to accommodate me and I still choose to buy your product, I'm still a customer. Because it was the only place open I opted to I stayed in the sun, asked for my check and left. The time duration I ate here would've been the same either way, and I would've left the shaded table in the same amount of time. However, the total lack of customer service, and over-processed-tourist-trap-croissant led me to write this review. There's a little brasserie on the main street closer to the train station that has far more superior croissants and service.

This place is cute and quant. You walk past it and seat yourself on one half of the patio. From there you relax and they eventually come around. For breakfast they gave you a menu. Everything was good and reasonable Unfortunately they ran out of croissants before we got there.
