We’ve gone here two years in a row for my father-in-laws birthday and it’s always been excellent! This year, our teppanyaki chef was Barry who was very congenial and fun (given it was a Sunday night, which can be slow). He told jokes and gave us tips on how to make the garlic butter! The service and food was excellent. We had calamari and it tender and went well with the ginger sauce. I love the spicy sauce they make and had that on everything. Our waitress was very attentive and refilled my water as needed (which was a lot due to my predilection towards the spicy sauce). The portions were also generous. We had plenty to eat and extra leftovers to take home. Everything was delicious and the experience was a lovely one!

This is my favorite OG neighborhood Teppan Yaki place. Barr our cook is the friendliest guy ever. Also love the sushi 🍣 chefs

Been coming here for 15 years and it has changed a bit. The decor, staff obviously and menu slightly. Out last trip wasn’t the same but overall still our favorite. Will always come back here. Good service, big portions and good show for the little ones. Ask for VAR…he’s the best!

Whenever I go there, foods and services make us super happy. Foods are always delicious and they only offer fresh sushi either meats of teppanyaki. Teppanyaki chefs are many. Their show and service are very professional. Our family and also even my friends always satisfied with their foods and services. Thank you!

It was just okay. Was looking for something to compare to my favorite teppanyaki place in San Diego and it just fell short of that. The food was decent tho. The hot sake got me drunk so that’s good lol. Sushi was not it either.

We reserved a sweet 15 dinner at this place and the the servers and just the atmosphere was appalling. They had us wait more then hour just for water before they took our drink orders. Regardless of the fact that they took this long the servers humiliated my guest, over charged them and failed miserably at making my daughter’s sweet 15 dinner an awesome experience. I do not recommend this place. They attended every small group leave but with us they were very poorly prepared!!! Please don’t book them if you have a large group of people. They are not equipped or trained for that! Many of our guests left because of the high heated room and lack of service!! Yet they still demanded a 18% gratuity charge!!

I love being pampered. The chef at the sushi restaurant really did so. The beer was cold cold cold and delicious and went very well with my sashimi. Loved it

We have been here twice already and I must say that I am truly impressed by the service staff and chefs. Both times have been teppanyaki, although we did order things from the back kitchen too and all of everything was delicious, clean, and very delightful. I'm starting to think that this may be a traditional spot for my family and I to go to for monthly or special celebrations. The fact that you can walk in, in the early afternoon, and be seated to enjoy teppanyaki, without a reservation is phenomenal to me. Thank you Sakanaya staff for giving my family and I such a wonderful experience.

I absolutely love Sakanaya Japanese Restaurant. The food is so delicious - you can't find anything like this at any other place. I feel so much better after eating it and it makes me feel healthier knowing that it's not full of artificial ingredients.

No reservation needed for party of 4; there is ample parking and it's shared with other businesses; we were accommodated very quickly at 7pm on a Sunday, the cutlery, tables and floor are clean although their plates are chipped; the sauces are clean and filled up; there is a good amount of distance between tables and a few fake plants, which I'm not really a fan of; the place is loud due to their tepanyaki section; this restaurant is also close to other restaurants and cafes; this place is in the wealthy side of town so it attracts that kind of crowd and it also reflects in their menu; they don't have a lot in the menu, just 2 pages. Food presentation is generally good except for the salmon skin roll which just disintegrated the moment I lifted it. Price to value ratio: I can get the same quality of food and presentation just a few minutes from here at a lower cost.

Place is awesome! Very friendly staff and fast service! Stopped in for Sushi but will definitely be coming back for teppenyaki! Gave us dessert after and my daughter loved it! Keep up the good work everyone!

Amazing! The service and food where awesome. Our chef was entertaining and a great cook. Wife has the spicy chicken and I had the teriyaki steak.

I used to love this place for teppanyaki, but unfortunately the food quality dramatically dropped, in my opinion. Prices have increased (which is understandable) however, they stopped serving the salad, and forget about the bacon in your rice 😢.

This place is the best. Everything is so good. Especially the hot and spicy sauce. I get the Teriyaki Steak and it’s delicious. The fried rice is amazing too.

Amazing staff and amazing food!! Lunch and dinner would be my first go to every-time!! Love the environment so lively and amazing for the whole family!! The boss Ann is classy and funny and is an amazing owner she makes everyone fell welcome to the Sakayana family!!

Everyone and their mom needs to try the Firecracker Jalapenos appetizer. It's cut up pieces of deep fried jalapeno stuffed with cream cheese and crab meat and topped in some tasty sweet spicy drizzle sauce. Soo good. Usually, dine in service is great. (I think I had a brand new server last time as our table was unattended for a really long time before ordering entrees after drinks and apps. That's not my usual experience though.)

Have been here now a handful of times and I absolutely love it here. We sit at the sushi bar and everything is perfect and delicious! Presentation and freshness this place has it all.

We had a great time here at Sakanaya! Ann and her entire team bring not just dinner to your table, but an enveloping experience as well. My favorite thing, while watching the tables idea chef work his magic, is watching the reaction on folks faces. The food was excellent! My wife and I chose the dinner for two so that we could sample several entrees. I highly recommend.

Went to celebrate my son birthday and the staff were amazing food was delicious and chef was awesome (i believe his name is Sergio) overall it was an excellent experience, we will definitely come back.

Sakanaya is a go to spot when possible. I love how they can usually get us in right away. No long waits so far. Tapanyaki is always nice. Did you know they have a cozy outdoor area with a lovely pond filled with coi fish. It’s quite lovely. I’ve been eating here for at least 8 years. Yet only realized it last year. Don’t I feel silly.

100% would recommend this place. The service was amazing, so was the food. I will be going back for sure.
