The wife wanted to try a new restaurant she had been reading about - The Rice Shop - and was surprised to see the new redevelopment on Tuttle Street. Simply a beautiful place to have a meal and hang around outside afterwords. BTW, the Korean Beef rice bowl at The Rice Shop was tasty.

So many good restaurants. My personal recommendations are the Buffalo Chicken poutine from Banter, the fried chicken sandwich from Lox Stock and Brisket or anything from Brassica.

Love the food hall at VAD. Nice mix of options with both indoor and outdoor seating options. The ability to take your beer or wine outside is a huge plus. A Mitchell's ice cream nearby means you can follow a delicious meal and drink with dessert if you're feeling gluttonous. There are also weekend activities like a Maker Fair and other rotating vendors as well. The surrounding shops are nice though pricey.

This review is only for The Market because I haven't been around the entire District. This District is new and things are still opening up. The Market has a garage that connects but the doors don't automatically open so if you're in a wheelchair or have a stroller be prepared to figure it out. Inside is lots of space, a play area, plenty of seating and the shops & restaurants. The restaurant sizes remind me of a food truck sized place. I went after 7 and the bummer was most of the shops (coffee/soap/spices, etc) were closed and another restaurant was out of a couple of the popular choices. So if you plan to go, go earlier or on the weekend. I think this could be a nice meeting location vs having to go to Panera or Starbucks. There is also a brewery (or something similar-I didn't go in) that allows you to bring your own food and enjoy their beverages. I'm looking forward to trying out the natural soaps and the spices shops because they both smelled enticing from the outside.

Visited this place over New Years for vacation and I love the idea and how it worked. The atmosphere was very calm but happy as well. Can we get some of these in Houston like this instead of the usual strip malls?

Haven't wandered the area in a bit, but was pleasantly surprised to find quite a few of the original shoppes have survived Covid with new popping up. Love the expansion of the outdoor eating area and the cool autumn decorations.

Great open "cafeteria" seating area that would be great for chugging away on a laptop or other device, however there are almost no outlets, so the amount of time (and $$$ for more snacks/drinks) is limited. There are a few outlets clustered in one area, but you need to sit on bleachers and hunch over undersized tables designed by and for gnomes. What a strange oversight/design choice. Shops and cafes are nice, but mostly overpriced and the line for coffee is humorously long.

Very nice atmosphere. The 2 man band was great. The sushi was delicious. Didn't like the service at the bar. They don't offer tasters cup to try before buy and the bartender filled the litte cups up where the cocktail is spilling out.

What a great job of renovating this iconic place. Lovely stores, especially the one where local makers can rent a cubicle to showcase their makes. Great concept. Brassica was a great place for lunch.

Great experience, pleasant and compact. I had meade wine and poutine, yummy! I also shopped around in the Market for spices, soap, art and unique gifts. Fresh bread is awesome too. You must see this place!

My first time inside even though I have passed it through the years. It is quite nice with multiple food and drink businesses to try! I was there for a meeting, but definitely want to go back to sift through their wine selection!

Nice atmosphere. The day I visited, there was a farmers market as well as live music. Family-friendly environment with lots of food choices. Scorpacciata Pizza was some of the best I've ever tasted! Can't wait to try their pasta. Ellie Mays cookies were delicious as well, fresh, soft and flavorful.

When my family wants to go out for dinner, but doesn’t want to eat the same thing (or same style of food), this is where we go! I love that everything’s local and acessible in one spot. It’s modern, family friendly, and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. There’s always fun events going on, especially in the summer, and I love that I can go there for anything and everything. Please go!

I'd put 5 stars but it's just so expensive... in every shop, really. However, there are unique shops, fantastic & unique foods (the pasta place is all made from scratch and has the greatest Ceasar Salad... the absolute BEST Spagetti & Meatballs, too.) and a great relaxed atmosphere where ALL ages can come and enjoy! Easy parking... easy access... live music here and there...

Love this place, there is so much to choose from. I love meeting my friends for lunch. Always a good experience regardless what you chose to eat for lunch.

I live across the street on Helen Rd. They play loud music all night. They have armed security with guns. It is toxic to the neighborhood. Big business wins again, enjoy your good time at the surrounding communitys expense. I see alot of kids there, why does it need armed security? I live across the street. You have people there with guns shown who aren't cops. The food is good, the stores are nice. I would think twice about brining children there with armed guards protecting it.

Great to visit, lots of good shops with great vibes and very clean. But it's pretty bad if you want to use their wifi for work. Wifi kicks you out to hotspot login every hour, and is generally pretty unreliable.

Met someone there. We ate at the stand that sales fried brisket. My company indicated the fried brisket was very good after the added onions from my tuna. The tuna was good. It lasted me 2 days because I ate it again for dinner. This was a between meal snack first.

We went here on a double date with another couple it was fun and unique. I have been to one other Dora before. This was way better. I love all the options for food and drinks. Shopping was a little pricey for me, but I'd love to go back in the morning when the spice shop and bakery are open. Great experience.

2nd time here. Fun place to go with family or friends. Not as many food options as the first time. But still great. Massive beer selection, even some to buy to take home. Indoor and outdoor seating just watch out for the bees.

A lovely sport to grab a coffee, enjoy a baked good, and chill on the outdoor patio. Well done, Shaker Heights.

This is a good food court. It is pricey but the food is good and the sellers are not the fast food chains. It has plenty of indoor and outdoor tables. Mitchell's ice cream is in a separate building across the street. It is excellent as most locals know. Their "junior" cone is big enough for adults. It is about the size of what Baskin & Robbins used to provide as a double scoop.

I had a late lunch at Brassica with my brother. We thoroughly enjoyed the cafeteria style service and the Mediterranean cuisine. The atmosphere was quaint and enjoyable for those who dined in. Take out was also available.

Stumbled upon this area it’s a unique mall style mix of shops and restaurants. Will be back to get some food and pictures. They have a craft beer bar for the drinkers and lots of various food vendors and upscale boutiques.

Terrific varieties and specialties. Upscale prices like a $20 pepperoni pizza that should be $14 and $6 French fries that should be $4.

Love the ice cream here at Mitchell's. It's very fresh tasting. All natural and just plain delicious. The pistachio is to die for!

I actually wish there were more places like this in our area… a great mix of people and events… The restaurants are the BEST!!! No matter what your food restrictions.

This place was a jem. There were shops with. Small business art, crafts, food, spices, hand made soap, wine beer and coffee. Truly didn't know this place was here. Adorable and worth a stop.

Such a cool place to take a walk, hang out, grab food or drinks with friends. Place can get crowded. Evenings are beautiful with lights. Used to visit this place when I lived in Shaker Heights. Although there are many places to eat here, I like Brassica a lot. Also, try Mitchell’s icecream. You would love it. Amazing flavors. Highly recommend.

Great lively place to grab a bite, a drink and relax with family or friends. Ambiance is nice, not what I'd call a quiet environment. The area is all walkable, and parking in the garage provides direct building access (no charge either).

Van Aken Market Hall provides a great selection of shops and restaurants. We chose Brassica. What a great choice! The food was delicious. It's now one of our favorites!

Great spot. Went on a rainy day and we were still able to sit outside to eat lunch under an umbrella.

The melted raclette Italian sandwich from Old Brooklyn Cheese Company was amazing!! We also enjoyed the poutine from Banter. Can’t believe this was our first time at the Van Aken district market. We can’t wait to be back!

This place is weird but kinda neat. There’s a handful of shops and restaurants inside and then outside, surprise, more of the same! Walking around is pretty good, lots of dogs and lots of people watching. A great places overall.

  • 5/5 Michael L. 1 year ago on Google
This is an exciting and absolutely necessary addition to Shaker Heights with a good variety of places to eat. We have been here many times and particularly enjoy the pasta place and Brassica, but there's lots more to try. It gets busy in the afternoon but it's a comfortable place to go for a light dinner with free parking in the attached garage.

Once you ignore the artificial construction of a social place this place could be decent. Though, very quiet past 7

My first time in this wonderful place. I was pleasantly greeted by an array of lovely boutiques and the aroma of delicious foods. Loved being there for a lunch meeting and enjoyed every minute; food was great, people were kind & friendly and I'll be happy to return!

Having grown up in this area in the 70's it is amazing to me how much it has changed. Now a beautiful shopping area with a great variety of eateries. Stop by!!

  • 5/5 Glenn M. 1 year ago on Google
Really has transformed a tired strip mall into a really nice assortment of shops and restaurants. Took years to get it done but BRAVO to Shaker Heights for doing it! And no, it didn't ruin the neighborhood, there was no neighborhood here to ruin. Not all change is bad.

  • 5/5 Joey C. 1 year ago on Google
Very unique place with lots of small businesses which I love to support. There is a small shop for everyone here and the food selection is great! They also have a little lounge area perfect if you are with multiple people.
