This is one of my favorites museums to visit in south Mexico city, it has the biggest art collection in the world of Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera's work in the world including Frida Self Portraits!! Theres is a whole room dedicated to sunrise and sunse paintings by Diefo Rivera.Dolores Olmedo was sponsor and close friend of the couple. Among the permanent exhibition there are also Mexican classic furniture and pottery ( talavera), the colonial style building is quite a place to admire. An unexpected and amazing surprise you might find, the many free peacocks that wander the gardens and jump around from ground to ceilings. There are also live xolo dogs in closed gardens. There are galleries for temporary exhibitions, the Dia de muertos offering art is very famous in November. The museum shop is very big and has a great variety of items including many Frida Kahlo themed stuff. Bathrooms are clean and spacious. It is close to Xochimilco canals, you could plan a visit with both locations in one day. Did not visit the restaurant, but was crowded and smelled delicious like mole sauce.

The museum has been closed for over three years. We were told by the guards yesterday (2/1/24) after traveling over an hour on two trains and a long walk. Website has no indication of this - it only mentions a joint exhibit in a park far away. Google maps accepted my “temporarily closed” edit yesterday and then today it’s back to the fictitious regular hours. Wikipedia (via an old article in El Pais) says that “in 2024” the Diego and Frida materials will be moved to a new location closer to the Center, in Chapultepec. Disappointed both in the museum for not providing accurate information and Gmaps for the same!

Beautiful! The garden is splendid with peacocks everywhere. The art collection is good but depends on your taste in the matter. There's even a little coffee shop closed to the house. Not that cheap for foreigners and being able to take photos inside cost an extra. But overall a good value.

The museum is incredible. It is situated in a beautiful park inhabited by peacocks and other animals. The house is wonderful. Really well kept. They have a huge collection of Diego Rivera. Unfortunately i also went to see the Frida Khalo paintings but they had none on exhibit. If you want to see all the collection make sure to give a call to the museum asking questions as it is situated a little far from the centre of the city.

Only go if it a 1 because it’s internet page and hour say open but it is closed. You call them and there is no apology and they know it is wrong. They should make the effort to update so foreigners who travel hours are not mislead.

I drove an hour in an Uber to find it shut. No explanation. The said it should be open. The guard spoke only Spanish and was not interested in helping me at all. Came I. A Saturday at 1 pm so it says it should be open. Cost a fortune in Ubers. Waste of my last day.

**Attention** Museum is closed (12/24) It is unfortunate because it is absolutely amazing and much better than Frida's House. The art collection is fantastic. No word on when they will re open.

(Translated by Google) A precursor to MAM is the National Museum of Plastic Arts created in 1947 by Carlos Chávez. This first museum was located inside the Palace of Fine Arts. However, it was a modest and provisional enclosure, with a museological conception that considered modern art only as a chapter within a broader curatorial script that covered the history of Mexican art since pre-Hispanic times. Shortly thereafter, in 1953, Carmen Barreda, then director of the Salón de la Plástica Mexicana and who would later become the first director of the MAM (1964 to 1972), founded a board of trustees with the intention of building an enclosure intended to preserve, study and spread modern art; This project took more than ten years to complete.

Xochimilco can be pretty far away if you're used to hanging out near the center of the city but there are several gems you can't miss. Among them is this former mansiion turned museum from fellow friend of Diego and Frida. There is also another home that belonged to Diego himself and a car museum.

This place is incredible and a must visit. More to see here than Museo Frida Kahlo and for much less of the price. You can easily spend over half the day here with a bunch of eye candy and great spots for photos. So much history! This was one of our highlights during our visit to Mexico City

  • 5/5 R. E. 5 years ago on Google
I was there around día de los muertos and they had a few rooms prepared. The Mexicans loved it. On Tuesdays the entrance is for free. The Diego Rivera collection is awesome. From Frida Kahlo it is mainly photos and only one painting that she did several times in different ways . But the villa is marvellous.

A must if you are in Mexico City! This is no ordinary museum - it is also a heritage home and garden. If you'd like to see original Frida Kahlo and Diego pieces you can't miss it. Every year around Day of the Dead they put together a large "ofrenda" full of life size skeletons playing out scenes in a theme. This year (2017) was cinema based. You're guaranteed to have an incredible experience here!!

This is the place If you want to see Frida's most known work that are in México. The house itself is a beautiful neocolonial one with large green areas. I don't know why they ask for a fee to taking pictures here. I think this is abusive and the museum would be more known through the pics of the visitors.

I'd recommend visiting this museum if you're interested in Frida Kahlo. You learn a lot about her life, her art and her relationship with her husband. Take your time to visit each display and room and ensure you spend some time touring the grounds outside as well, i would love to thank Nalleli she was very knowledgeable young lady. The whole property is beautiful and an oasis in a bustling city. We met a lot of wonderful persons while doing this tour and it was great to see kids visiting on school field trips (we spoke to some wonderful students doing a school project and they even taught us a couple of things they'd learned from their own research). I'm not sure if this was only for the specific time period we visited, you should also visit the museum dedicated to Diego Rivera.
