As a visitor to Turkey I was in awe of all the locations and beauty. These ruins are placed atop an decent size hill so wear good shoes. The short hike up is well worth the view. Athenas sanctuary still has pillars close to 50 feet tall! A must see if you visit. For those in Turkey I would take the children to exercise, play and learn or a romantic picnic with gorgeous views. I love Turkey.

The Archaeological Site of Priene, On a high bluff backed by stark mountain and overlooking what was once the sea stands the ruined Temple of Athena Polias, dating from the 4th century BC. Priene's biggest and most influential structure. An original inscription, now in the British Museum, states that Alexander the Great funded the temple. Today's five re-erected columns give some sense of the temple's original look even if they are 3 metres short of the calculated original column height. though many others lie in unruly heaps around it. This city has been rebuilt from scratch in its current location at around 350BC. It was previously a harbor city that was no longer connected to the sea, due to the silting of the Büyük Menderes River Delta. The site also offers plenty of shady trees, less crowds and views across the patchwork fields.

The best part of the visiting western Anatolia, a lot of ruins, ancient cities and civilizations. Priene has great amphitheater and temple of Athena. The city has great views over the valley.

A must see as a companion to Ephesus. The site is much, much quieter, and somewhat smaller, which allow allows for a better understanding of ancient city life. It will take you about an hour to see the ruins. Bonus points for the breathtaking view!

Great ancient city, it is not crowded very cheap to enter, great culture, well preserved and should sit inside the amphitheater and live the atmosphere. While walking down the city streets we feel the old times.

One of the most amazing ruin complex in the western coast. But be prepared it is really a long way to walk up and difficult to climb. But it is worth! The view and the ruins are magnificent! Take a lot of water with you especially in summer. I can highly recommend!

Definitely under appreciated. Very cheap and beautiful. Ancient synagogue plus an extremely intact theatre which even had special throne seats for important people. So worth a few hour visit. Also incredible Athena temple.

One of my favorite ancient cities. So beautiful nature and such a big city on a hill. There is also a way to climb top of the mountain but haven’t tried yet. Not so known and not a crowdy place.

Priene is off the beaten tourist track so the chances of havinbg the site to yourself are good. Founded about 350BC following Alexander the Great's conquest of Anatolia, Priene is a good example of a classical Greek town. The Romans put the finishing touches to the site after the area was added to the Empire in the early 2nd century BC. Not for the disabled, the site is built on a steep hill. The views are magnificent. The finds excavated from the site can be seen in the museum at Miletus.

Ruins of a nice ancient city. Expect stairs and trails with rocks. Good place to visit with children, but one need to be cautious. It might be demanding for people with disabilities, weak health conditions, especially in hot weather.

PRIENE: This ancient Greek city probably represents the best-preserved Hellenistic townscape in Ionia, without any of the usual Roman or Byzantine additions. What makes it even more stunning and unique is the spectacular setting that gives it a certain natural grandeur! It occupies perhaps the finest location of any ancient city – perched on a series of pine terraces graded into the south flank of Samsun Dağı Despite all this, and the fact that it’s just 35km south of Kuşadası, this hidden jewel remains far less visited than Ephesus – even in Summer. So you’ll largely have this wonderful place to yourself if you visit, as we did! #Türkiye
