Nothing is really left from Artemis Temple, except this beautiful column where a Pelican has chosen to build its nest on the top. The site is majestueuse, mainly because of the beautiful Selcuk castle behind. In my opinion 15-20 minutes will give you a good impression.

Don't have Great Expectations for this. It is nothing short of disappointing. Once an wonder of the world, now in ruins. Neglected and discarded. Possibly because of lack of funding or help. Place is littered with touts who are exploiting the tourists. Out of all the columns and structure, only one is standing and that too has a bird's nest on top.

Beautiful ruins of the temple of Artemis. A world heritage site. No tickets. 15-30 mins of time needed to see the place. If you are into Greek mythology then this is a must see place!

One of the wonders of the ancient world, nothing really left but one column. Once upon a time there was a 162 column building which must have been incredible… but over the years it was systematically pulled apart to use for churches, castles and in museums. This is all that remains

One of the wonders of the world! Really worth to visit, especially having in mind the price of 130 tl (oct 2023) for seeing ruins of temples, church and forth during one visit. Don't hesitate to walk everywhere and discover more to find hidden jems, such as: vine/olive oil jars, holly paints, Islamic tombstone, water cistern, etc

(Translated by Google) The Temple of Artemis is located in Ephesus, in the Selçuk district of our country, Izmir. The Temple of Artemis, a structure dedicated to the Goddess Artemis, also known as the Temple of Diana, has a magnificent stance. Completed in 550 BC, the work still hosts thousands of local and foreign tourists every year.

Without a guide to tell me the history and demarcate the area for me, I would be totally lost. Yes the outline of the area is still visible and parts of some columns remain. It’s a short quick visit of about 15 mins max. Lots of peddlers selling guide books and “gold coins”.

The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus, Turkey, lies in ruins. But the site, which was one of the most important Greek cities in Asia Minor, deserves its place on this list. Be sure to take the time to admire the Library of Celsus, whose majestic columns have stood the test of time.

One of the ancient world wonders. Although few ruins left, but the place has its own magic. You can feel what it was. There are many people trying to see you something there, just ignore that! You can visit the place easily without tour from Selçuk.

Hopefully your tour guide can help you see how these structures looked a thousand years ago. Ours (Sammy), was great at helping us see these ruin for what they are. Priceless treasures, apparently most have yet to be unearthed.

Unfortunately there are a few stones left of the great temple of Artemis. Although it definitely worths a stop and taking time, don't get your hopes up to see much. I really liked smoothly touching the stones from thousands years ago.

There is not a great deal to see here which undersells it's historic importance. Better to have the lowdown from a tour guide so you can appreciate what you are seeing. Beware of street traders who are desperate to sell their guidebooks or handmade wooden instruments. Luckily when this lady says no they know she really means no! 😉

The Temple of Artemis is a temple of the hunting goddess Artemis, also known as the Temple of Diana, built from marble by the architect Chersiphron and his son Metagenes, 377 feet (115 m) long, 180 feet (55 m) wide, consists of 127 stone pillars, in Ephesus city (now in Turkey), on the Aegean coast. Construction of the temple began in 550 BC, underwent reconstruction and expansion over several periods, the last being in 430 BC after 120 years. In 356 BC, the temple was destroyed by fire on the night Alexander the Great was born. A similar temple was rebuilt on the site of the old temple. In 262, the Goths burned the temple for the second time. Only the foundation and some other parts of the second temple have survived to this day. The British Museum in London also preserves a number of relics belonging to the second temple.

Artemis Temple You and only one pillar remain. Only the pillars remain, so I don't feel the scale or grandeur of the time, but since 127 pillars were used, I was able to roughly guess the size. At a nearby museum, you can see a replica restored in miniature size.

There is not much remained of this site. Although it's so near to the center, the location was not crowded and there was so peaceful. It could be reached easily by walking and there is no entrance, so you can visit it for free. Just be careful as there is no W.C and no bench or shadows to rest under!

Kinda sad this is an afterthought next to the Ephesus museum. It's down a nature trail so I guess no entry fee is ok. Several stones still left and one still standing. Another area that isn't well detailed in here as well. There's a sign showing what was here but not much else.

This park/museum is a very large complex with multiple structures, it requires at least 5 hours to see everything at a normal pace. The complex is magnificent showcasing beautiful art and structures from the periods as well as the remains of the Church of Virgin Mary. Very well worth trip. You should go!

An amazing place. The Temple of Artemis or Artemision, also known as the Temple of Diana, was a Greek temple dedicated to an ancient, local form of the goddess Artemis. It was located in Ephesus. By 401 AD it had been ruined or destroyed. Only foundations and fragments of the last temple remain at the site.

Sadly, if you want to have an idea of the original beauty of this site, you should watch its reconstructed model at the museum... if you're already not a fan of old stones, maybe pass your way. But it's still an interesting site for its symbolic and historical importance.

Honestly, incredibly disappointing BUT I already knew what to expect. What was once One Of The 7 Ancient Wonders Of The World has been reduced to a single massive column. I have seen artistic depictions of what it could have looked like. There's just nothing really here to see.

It is a shame and sad that such legendary structure is now being drown in swampland and only several stones (and one mixed "complete" pillar) are left uncovered. Anyway, you can have a very nice walk around the place here, have some rest and so on. It is also very interesting to just think about how many different people from various cultures and ages have been here since the temple was built... I recommend visiting this place when you are around.

(Translated by Google) When I went to visit the Temple of Artemis, one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world, I expected a completely different scene. What I saw deeply disappointed me. Namely, neither the approach to the site, nor the site itself and the condition in which it is located deserve a single star. However, the knowledge that there used to be a magnificent temple in that place determined me to give it all 5 stars. The whole site is located on wetlands, overgrown with grass and vegetation. Apparently, no one made an effort to restore this historically extremely important locality, at least to some extent, to its old glory. Of the entire temple, only one pillar remained and several bases of pillars submerged in wetlands. I couldn’t shake the nagging impression after the tour was over. Maybe one day someone will understand what kind of wealth it is, so they will make an effort to settle all this and bring it to the condition that such a locality undoubtedly deserves. Until then, it remains to be known that this place once had a magnificent temple of the goddess Artemis, one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. (Original) Pošavši da obiđem Artemidin hram, jedno od 7 svetskih čuda antičkog sveta, očekivao sam sasvim drugačiji prizor. Ono sto sam video duboko me je razolaralo.

Definitely not worth visiting. All the good reviews for Artemis are NOT taking about this place. They are referring to nearby Ephesus. It may have been wonderous at some point in history but it is virtually NOTHING now. I am 100% sure you will decide it wasn't worth the stop. Maybe someday if they do *any* restoration/excavation it would be something to look at but not now. Ephesus (5 minutes drive), on the other hand, is magnificent.

One of the ancient wonders and it is very impressive to admire!! I visited here once and I'd definitely recommend it! Plus there is a nearby museum to admire the history and culture associated with the ruins. The sheer scale is amazing. (Great for photos too) There are occasional wild cats that roam the area, do not feed them. Also be careful of scam artists, since this is a hotspot for tourists.

This is without a doubt the most disappointing archaeological site in Turkey and they have many. Considered by those who saw it in ancient times to be better than the pyramids of Giza, better than Babylon and the Colossus of Rhodes we are now left with an arid swamp and a pieced together column. Extremely disappointing, worth stopping off to have a laugh about.

(Translated by Google) A lonely column, moreover, assembled from different pieces, is a sad sight. But it is still interesting to see the place where one of the wonders of the ancient world stood. The temple was mostly destroyed by earthquakes, and the vandalism was completed by Christians. Well, they did not understand that it was necessary to protect ancient Greek buildings. For those who want to see what the temple of Artemis looked like, I advise you to go to Didyma, to the temple of Apollo, the twin brother of the goddess. There you will really feel the scale and grandeur of pagan temples. The temples are said to have been identical. The four of us took a taxi Priene-Miletus-Didim. The temple in Didim impressed me the most. By the way, there lived Medusa the Gorgon, there is her statue.

Part of this once-famous city is today the Turkish town of Selcuk. Starting from the Roman Republic, Ephesus was the capital of Asia Minor (Western Asia Minor), known as "the first and largest metropolis in Asia. It was based on the Temple of Artemis (the chief shrine of the goddess Diana) , Library and theater. In addition, Ephesus built several different large bathrooms under Roman rule. The Virgin Mary died in Ephesus. The former residence of the Virgin Mary, 7 kilometers away from Selcuk, Catholic believes that Ephesus is the last home of the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus. The library has been reconstructed according to its original shape. The Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, only left some columns. We'll it's free and gives you a sense of scale of how big the temple supposedly was. Quick visit as not much to see.

One will feel small and in awe of the megalithic architecture here when walking on marble floors, surrounded by huge structures. The 'Holy City' Hierapolis, where gods might have once walked... Some of them are in ruins, some in tact. The energy is definitely an exciting step back in time!

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately, only a few columns remain and some ruins of a temple that centuries ago was of amazing beauty (so they say). However, the way in which we are trying to preserve what little remains is to be commended. Precisely because there is not much to see it is a place quite snubbed by the historical / cultural routes. But having time available I would recommend a visit as I did a few years ago with my family. Seeing the few surviving details, one can guess that the building was very well done and enhanced with elements of quality and beauty.

Intriguing history behind the ruins... I always loved ancient Greek civilization so it was particularly interesting to me, but perhaps boring to those who don't share the interest for there is nothing but ruins of a temple there.

(Translated by Google) Temple of Artemis, also known as the Temple of Diana. The temple dedicated to the goddess Artemis was completed in Ephesus around 550 BC. The temple was built entirely of marble. Only a few pieces of marble remain from the temple, which is considered one of the seven wonders of the world.

👍 Not a huge amount of things to see and do but it's very enjoyable all the same. It's separate from the main Ephesus site and is free to enter. It's not hugely popular but there are still food and drink outlets right by the pathway, souvenirs too. I think it's worth the effort myself although some ma...
