(Translated by Google) One of our museums, located in the magnificent natural park within the Bahri baba park in Konak district of the heart of Izmir, with its sympathetic, humorous and relevant staff, has a wide collection of historical monuments in Izmir. The museum consists of the Museum, the Stone Works Hall, the Ceramic Works Hall, the Treasure Room and the Garden Exhibition. Numerous works belonging to the Archaic, Classical, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic Periods of all the states that lived in the Ionian Territory are exhibited. The Mycenaean Period and Attica Red - Black Figure ceramics section, especially in the ceramic works section, especially the Demeter Statue, are the sections that attract our attention. Also, the Treasury Room is very very different. You are very impressed. We also shot the video. Now the video is on our channel. Even though we see a few missing and irregularities in the museum, it will still be corrected as a result of the studies. . It’s definitely worth visiting. Only the ground and first floors were open when I was there. 90tl entrance. The basement floor has a beautiful coloured mosaic that might be in the process of restoration. It needs it. They have interesting Neolithic artefacts. Roman statues. Much pottery and a decent exhibition of gold jewellery and coins

I really do not know why such museum exist. Expositions like from medieval times, without any spirit and aim. It is like comic strip with the dolls. My advice for government not to waste money and for visitors not to waste time. Sorry for such comment, but truth is very rude sometimes and you cannot close eyes.

(Translated by Google) If you like to visit museums, I can guarantee that you will be very satisfied. There are many artifacts such as hand-carved artifacts from the Bronze Age, blown perfume containers, coins, and most importantly, a statue of an Olympic competitor made of copper, which is one of the symbols of the museum. It is definitely worth a visit. Those who may be wondering about the fee, admission is 17.5₺, free for museum card holders. certainly not at grand or fancy as huge Western museums, but so much history, love, and solid research. it’s a small museum, coving artifacts and history from about the Bronze Age through the Roman Empire period of Anatolia. they provide so much cultural context, too. i will go back next week to draw some sketches.

Very beautiful museum. The only problem as with everything in Turkey, the information you get is part of propaganda. They focus more on giving you information about the excavations and not about the history itself. You read words like "Achaeans, Ionians, Doric" and you must have some level in history to understand that all is part of Greek history. But you learn about "Hellenistic", which may include things done by not Greeks. The reason is simple: the terms "Greek", "Greece", should never be mentioned in the Turkish vocabulary, so that the Turkish citizen learns as late as possible that all the Asia Minor coastline is full of Greek and history...

Fascinating collection with info in English. Only the Archeological museum was open to due renovations at ethnography museum. They have a beautiful copper statue, some neolithic and early bronze age ceramics, coins used in western anatolia from ancient to modern times, as well as some mosaics. Worth the 25 lira entry!

This museum has moved - I understand the previous site is close to the main bazaar in Izmir and is still open but that this complex only opened about the second week of May, 2023. I unfortunately do not have the exact address but it is near the Alcansak train station, on the east side of the same street as the train station but approximately one block south. There is a sign by the main gate but it is not very visible from the sidewalk. Admission was free when we attended. The museum is well worth a visit. It has some pretty amazing sarcophagi, ancient Greek carvings, and numerous other exhibits; the photos below provide a very small indication of the collections. I presume because the museum is new some of the explanations of the exhibits are not yet in place, and some of the items are not marked; however, we easily spent three hours in the complex, and serious archeological buffs could I presume spend considerably longer. There are some exhibits which I believe would be interesting for children.

İzmir has so much to offer in terms of ancient history, this museum could have been much better. A few interesting pieces, but we did not really care for the layout. Also, some of the major pieces I've seen in photos weren't there (like the winged statue). The ethnography museum was closed so we could only go in the archeology museum (they are separate buildings). This seems to happens everytime I try to visit a museum or historical site in Türkiye. A big part of it is closed off for repairs or something. It gets quite frustrating.

Some beautiful artifacts, some of very high quality. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. Like in most Turkish museums, you have to dance or skip to trigger the light sensors. I was wondering about the height of the curator though, because one should walk on his/ her knees to be at the right eye level to enjoy many of the treasures on display.

(Translated by Google) Some of the Valuable Artifacts Found in Ancient Cities such as Smyrna, Bergam, Millet, Klazomenia, Teos and Iasos, which are located within the borders of Izmir Province, are exhibited in İzmir Archeology Museum. The museum was opened in the 1927 Ayavukla (Gözlü) Church in the First Years of the Republic after a 3-Year Study. However, With the Artefacts Excavated From The Environment Over Time, The Collection Of The Museum Has Been Enriched That It Can Not Fit In The Church Building. For this reason, it was found in additional buildings for the museum. And Finally, In 1984, It Was Replaced 5000 Square Meters In Bahri Baba Park. Izmir Archaeological Museum, which is one of the regions where the cities were founded most intensely in ancient times, the works on each floor of the three-storey museum are exhibited in chronological order. Ceramic finds from the ancient city of 300 BC and Hydriae from the Hellenistic Period are present. Gold, Silver and Bronze Items Are Exhibited In The Treasury Flat Located On This Floor. Coins of the Roman and Byzantine Empires to the Duchy of Venice are also dazzling. The Bronze Demeter Sculpture from Halicarnassus is one of the most remarkable works of this section. Heads of Sculpture on the Middle Floor, Marble Korean Statue Excavated in Eryhrai, and Bronze Athlete Statue in Kyme are Worth Seeing. The lower floor of the museum is the area where sarcophagi and relief sculpture groups are exhibited. It is counted among the Klozomenia Sarcophagi. The Izmir Archaeological Museum is a must-visit gem for history enthusiasts. The impressive collection, rich with artifacts from the Aegean region, provides a comprehensive journey through Turkey's ancient past. Exquisite displays of statues, mosaics, and pottery are beautifully preserved and presented. Highlights include fascinating relics from the Archaic and Roman periods. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, enhancing the overall educational experience. The museum's modern layout, cleanliness, and clear informational plaques deserve praise. Nestled in this beautiful city, this museum offers an engaging and insightful look into the region's history. Highly recommended!

A must see. A collection this complete is really exceptional. On top of that the documentation, if you make pictures, provides you with a complete archeology course. In other words, it is very comprehensive. Statues, even if headless, display all development stages in Antiquity, with some top pieces from Efese. The treasury is really stunning, with some of the oldest coins in the world and outstanding jewellery. There are also good mosaics and a very complete collection of ceramics. The collection would probably be displayed differently in the West, but I cannot find anything against old fashioned order.

(Original) Çok güzel, görülmesi gerekli bir müze, klima çalışmadığı için bunalticiydi, bazı heykellerin alt yazılarının yenilenmesi gerekli, sesli rehberin olmaması önemli bir eksik, çünkü tarih hakkında bilgilendirilme olması, gezdiğiniz yeri anlamlı kılar. Etnografya müzesi kapalıydı, restorasyon yapılıyordu, umarım kısa zamanda tamamlanır, müze yetkilileri çok ilgili ve nazikti, teşekkürler👏👏.

(Translated by Google) It was a beautiful two-story museum. The only problem is that the map tries to take you from the streets that are not at all haunted. It would be much safer if you go by the coastal road. They keep indoor air conditioners off at this time, go with caution. (Original) İki katlı çok güzel bir müzeydi. Tek sorunu haritanın giderken hiç de tekin olmayan sokaklardan götürmeye çalışması. Sahil yolundan gidilirse çok daha güvenli olur. Şu dönemde içerideki klimaları kapalı tutuyorlar, tedbirli gidin.

(Translated by Google) The museum is definitely worth seeing. There is a restoration work in a section and I am sure that it will be more beautiful when it is completed in its garden. Be prepared to welcome dates from many eras. One of my favorite aspects of the museum is that the lighting system is not constantly lit for nothing. While you go to Izmir and wait for the air to cool, you can visit it in a time frame like 2 hours.

Museum of archeology was open, interesting are especially collection of coins and ancient jewelry, statues are less interesting, because except one, the heads were missing. Ethnographic part of museum was closed, IDK why and IDK as well if the price of the ticket 17,5 lira was same or not.

Definetely would recommend visiting this place if you are in Izmir. It is full of amazing old artefacts from western Anatolia, from Hellenistic, Roman and Byzabtine pwriods. Fascinated by how well some of the statues are preserved and exposed for everyone to see. Unfortunately Ethnographic Museum was closed by the time qe came because of renovation I think but Im sure it has a lot to show too. Ticket is fair price if not too cheap for what the museum has to offer 5 stars wothout thinking.

On the second floor I would definitely see the Ottoman coins. You can enter free with Muzekart. You can visit until 18.30. The Museum presents informations that has nothing to do with the History of Izmir. ( Greek Attica Pottery Painters a.o.)This is Ancient Greek History and all the civilised world knows this.

  • 3/5 Giuseppe S. 1 year ago on Google
No particular highlights, therefore the 25TL ticket to enter could be considered fair. Let's say you are not going to Izmir to see this museum exclusively. Most of the statues come from Ephesus, even if just a bunch of them are complete.

A must visit location of this city, although the underground was closed when i was there but for the rest it was quite nice and informative. One additionnal thing that the place lacks is a restauration area where you can get a drink or some snacks but for the most part, my experience was good and i would recommend it.

(Translated by Google) There are beautiful artifacts and of course we toured with pleasure. However, İzmir, the pearl of the Aegean, full of ancient cities on every corner, deserves much better. It's as if the museum hasn't been touched in the last 20 years. The collection should be made more comprehensive with the objects obtained during the excavations. Activities that will make children love history and archeology should be organized. Currently, there is only the QR code for the archeology magazine, which is hung on the wall for children. In addition, the Ethnography Museum, which is located right next to the Archeology Museum and has an enormous building, was closed. I hope it will be opened to the public as soon as possible.

Not as big as I expected. 2 or 3 star exhibits the rest is incomplete statues, pottery and jewellery. Set in 2 main rooms. I enjoyed my visit on a quiet weekday, no school trips, had the place to myself.

Very outdated, although it has very nice artifacts. Comparing to other archeological musea I would not recommend it. We couldn't find a place to sit down and have a coffee or a museumshop. The lights kept turning off or didn't work. Descriptions of the artifacts were minimal, and part of the museum was empty. It could be a great museum as Izmir and surroundings has aot of historical sights.

It was underwhelming. The collection in the museum is extensive and in great condition, but the info sheets were lacking and confusing. None of the collection items were tagged, so we had no idea what we were looking at. Instead, they had walls of texts in some corners of the museum, which were too long and frankly, boring, to read. It was also way too hot inside.

  • 4/5 Evgeny L. 5 months ago on Google
This has quite an interesting museum, presenting a fairly extensive collection of Аntique works of art. There are also more ancient collections of housewares and jewellery. Interesting to visit.

The museum is easy to find, next to busy area of Izmir clocktower. It is a small museum packed with great local goods, nicely exhibited and just enough to spend an hour, saw beautifull artifacts and statues en explanation in English as well as Turkish

👍 One of the most important touristic sites of izmir. There's no need to buy a ticket as this monument is part of an urban space. The plaza is so lively even at midnight. Also, there are various restaurants, cafes and pubs. Also, the ancient bazar is close by.
