National Institute of Technology (NIT) Silchar was started as a Regional Engineering College (REC) in 1967. The College started its academic programme with affiliation from Guwahati University. In 2002, it was included in the list of NITs under the National Institute of Technology Act 2007 and was also declared as an Institute of National Importance. NIT Silchar offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in engineering, science, humanities and 11 other departments. It is one of the NITs of India located in Silchar (ASSAM).It is very beautiful and Glorious environment in the lap of nature. I can say it is free from Pollution. You can enjoy study with the beautiful natural sites.Students are admitted for the undergraduate courses through the JEE-Main conducted by National Testing Agency [NTA], NIT Silchar has been given the award of best engineering college in eastern India by ASSOCHAM in the National Education Excellence Awards 2014 and 2015. It is the best college in the north- East.

It is wonderful institute offering quality education.All faculty are easy going and well qualified, all lab are equipped with modern equipment and facility, having trained sufficient supporting staff. It is known for its lush green campus, neat and clean hostel( separate for boys and girls), faculty and staff quarter, having large campus area of 625 acre. The campus embody many lake, infront of hostel, quarter, administrative and academic building, which creates amazing beautiful natural views. 24/7 security at each building and on street also.

Very beautiful dreamy Institution in the lap of Nature. Lush green campus with huge size extended throughout. Gorgeous & creamy in each & every aspect. My daughter is pursuing Phd here & she is very much fond of this Institution. I too like it very much. Students are very much joyful as wel qualitative. The infrastructures are also marvelous .

Very large Campus but not well maintained clean campus having enough wate lands and also A goid canteen and A fair price shop is also there for small requirements.

This place is on the way to NIT Guest House. Quite a beautiful and peaceful place. I keep going here all the time. The turbidity of the mind settles and the mind itself becomes calm.

It good for natural beauty, but residential facilities are not good. Administration is works very slow, for a single work , you have to go to administration again and again. Vegetarian students face problems. Study facilities are ok ok , not so good not so bad but better than state colleges. Campus is green, there are lots of trees. Lack of vegetarian food in college canteen.
