I’m local and Hej used to be one of my favourite places to go and work, they always had fantastic tasty salads. This is no longer the case and I can no longer work there because the WiFi is absolutely rubbish, another thing which didn’t use to be the case. I really wish they’d get it sorted but the staff don’t seem to care. This place has definitely gone downhill a lot, such a shame.

😊😊The coffee tastes amazing! The vibe is relaxed and nice to work in. And there are accessible plugs. Look out for the discounted cakes on the weekend 😎😄😄

Another great coffee house in Bermondsey. This one is a great place for coffee, hangout or doing some work. There is a peaceful calm about the place and it is in a great spot. Visit here when the market is on and you have a great place to watch people, from inside or the outside tables. A great use of space and perfect spot off the tower bridge tourist area

Style over substance. The coffee was nice. Sausage roll was tasty but the food was expensive for what it was. Selection of food and soft drinks is minimum. Staff are very nice but don't communicate with each other or customers very well (food stacks up at the till and no one does anything about it). Looks trendy and has a trendy crowd, but not up to scratch compared to the other coffee houses close by.

HEJ SOMSERSET HOUSE: This place only serves hot drinks and cakes in disposable cups/ plates, there is no proper eat-in option, which is disappointing for environmental purposes. The bakery (banana bread (photo attached), danish pastries, cakes.....) always taste very stale and dry whenever I've been, which I do not expect for that price! Just seems over-priced for no legitimate reason, and there is a lot of waste (unsold leftovers are thrown away at the end of the day). I regret all the times I've wasted my money on this place, never again!

Ordered cheese and tomato sourdough toastie and this is what I got. The edge of the tomato that’s hard and unpleasant to eat. The bacon brioche was even less appetising. Shame since the ingredients seem to be of good quality which gets the 2 stars plus 1 for the coffee but there was no care in the preparation. Still sour about getting served tomato edges that are barely edible.

Overall: 2/10 The only word to describe my experience would be “disappointing” The staff weren’t friendly & one particular person looked like they didn’t even want to be there. I didn’t feel welcomed at all. They also stopped serving anything that needed to be toasted or hot 3 hours before closing which I found ridiculous. I ended up having a latte which wasn’t that great. Oh and I asked for coffee to have in, they gave it to me in a to go cup. What is the point of asking me then? In addition to all of that, the lid broke so easily. Talk about quality. I was hoping for more out of this place but it is what it is. Would I go again: Nope!

Popped in for a coffee & cinnamon bun, both were very good. Staff were friendly and it seemed a cosy environment but I didn’t stay (coffee to go). I’d definitely visit again though.

Nice and relaxed cafe on the square and close by the White Cube, with facilities for laptops to connect. Great banana cake. Also a few tables outside for the good season.

Coffee not bad, quirky atmosphere but RUDE RUDE RUDE. the girl behind the counter barely acknowledged the customers and when I asked her to check the WiFi (which wasn’t working), she said it was working, shrugged, and walked off. Don’t bother

Coffee is "ok" i guess, although the cup sizes are tiny and its expensive. The food on the other hand is pretty dreadful. Not overly keen on this place TBH after going a few times. Sorry

Rude service. Far better cafes in Bermondsey where you won't be treated badly.

Nice coffee but one of the staff was a bit rude. Made us feel rushed and uncomfortable. She also barked at her co-worker in front of the customers. If you work in the service industry a smile goes a long way!

for starters, the photos look a lot better than the actual thing. Bad service (lady forgot my drink after I had already paid). It was hard to find a place to sit as the tables were covered with used/left over plates and glasses. WIFI IS HORRIBLE. A LOT OF THE PAGES WOULDN'T LOAD. I HAD TO USE MY PHONE'S HOTSPOT TO WORK. maybe its ok if you're getting a quick coffee but not a good place to work

The coffee and the wifi is of good quality but that is pretty much the end of my positive experience. Every time I come here they make such a big deal over money. I much prefer a relaxed environment where I order, perhaps multiple coffees and some food, and at the end I settle my debt - like every other cafe. At Hej Coffee every time I order something they ask for money as if I'm going to run off with their £2.80. It comes across as very rude, at least to a British person. They lack a toilet and the staff don't seem confident enough to supply friendly conversation. The food (except porridge) is unbelievably expensive. £5 for a sandwich takeaway and £8 if you want to eat it in the cafe!

Ordered a mint ice tea. Was given a different flavour. When I queried it the response given was "We didn't have that flavour so I made you this one". It's customary to inform a client that their choice isn't available before giving them an alternative. Also ordered food (chicken and mushroom pie). Paid for at 12:28, served at 12:58 when the rest of the table had finished their food. Only served once I'd let them know that they'd clearly forgotten my order. No apology was given. All in all, expensive prices, average food and disorganised/poorly trained staff. I don't recommend.

We found about Hej Café while browsing through a “London best coffee shops” book at a souvenir store. The next morning we took the bus and went to Bermondsey. It was such a great experience! The coffee was great; the two ladies at the front desk were so welcoming and professional. We ordered Avocado sandwiches for the girls and they came out so fresh and tasty. You guys rock! Wonderful relaxed atmosphere for a great morning coffee

Probably the best coffee on Bermondsey St. Service always pretty good and subbing dairy free milk at no extra cost is the cherry on top.

I've been a regular for a long time and I definitely recommend this place. The staff is lovely, the food is delicious and the coffee is great. Vegan friendly and pet friendly! Very cozy space to enjoy your coffee during those cold winter days and very refreshing options for the hot summer days.

Coffee is very well made and tastes good. Food is nice and you can tell its made fresh each day. Today the staff member Jordan was working on his own. Absolutely AMAZING service. Hes so friendly and even when there was a que of people, he worked quickly and effenciently to service everyone in a reasonable time. He even made friendly small talk by asking how my day was. This guy honest needs a pay rise. Definitely will be coming again.

The coffee here is always good! I've been a bunch of times and it's just more consistent than cafes usually are. They have good filter too.

  • 3/5 Maria M. 2 years ago on Google
Tge coffee is still great although the filter coffee is hit or miss. (Today is delicious tho!!) The team used to be so welcoming and happy, now I feel like every time I go there I "make the guys work" and I want to get my coffee and leave quickly. Today I was served by a person who was more interested in her phone.

My son and I come here for our morning flat white and babycino before nursery weekly. The coffee is some of the best locally, and the service is always great. The food is a bit on the pricey side, but on par with other cafes locally.

Extremely lovely staff and great coffee. The pastry selection is excellent, and there are generously filled savoury bagels and baguettes. A great place to work - free Wi-Fi and laptop ‘zone’ for anyone who wants to set up for a couple of hours! Sadly no bathroom and none nearby, and the outdoor seating currently looks onto a building site

Oh dear. I used to like Hej Coffee but I have stopped going there. The management and staff are so bad. My last visit involved the manager being pretty mean to a staff member. The staff have been getting more and more miserable over time but the last visit made me realise, I don't want to see staff treated badly and looking miserable. The atmosphere at Hej used to be good, now it's bad. I gave you a chance but I no longer want to drink at Hej. There are so many better places around. Reading reviews, it's clear that there is something very rotten at Hej.

A quiet-ish Sunday morning. Filter coffee was not fantastic. Staff seemed overworked (putting together takeaways for Deliveroo) and not particularly welcoming. Nice place though. Won't go back in a hurry.

Friendly staff, outdoor tables surrounded by greenery, space indoors to chill and work, coffee beans for home from £7.50. Only thing is the coconut brand oat milk made my coffee taste sour. Oatly please :)

Went there for a TooGoodToGo parcel like a week or two ago. Really disappointing to be honest! Stale sandwiches and really bland cafe food - we ended up throwing most things away and also got worried that some things were too old to be eaten. Not to mention, the lady who gave us the bag seemed unfriendly.

Really cute place & friendly service! I loved the cinnamon bun. I’ll try and come back for breakfast when I need the area as it looks really good and was reasonably priced. Only little downside is no toilets!

Just opened at the time of writing so a few tiny bugs to iron out. Cash only for now but card payments imminent. Great, aromatic coffee and Swedish meatballs on the way. Hopefully, sugar laden Swedish cakes follow soon after!

  • 1/5 Maria K. 4 years ago on Google
The staff isn’t very friendly. We arrived 15 minutes before closing (we didn’t know about it), the barista served us coffee without mentioning they’re closing soon. We were hurried to leave. Plus there’s no restroom in this coffee shop.

  • 2/5 James S. 4 years ago on Google
I went to the Hej coffee in Somerset house. Very disappointed, rubbish selection of cakes, and you can't get a pot of tea with a cup/mug. They just plonked a tea bag into a paper cup, and then added milk, the worst way to make tea. Are the paper cups and plastic lids recycled? Very disappointing experience, no class whatsoever.

This is a really nicely decorated, modern and cosy little coffee shop. The coffee is really great. They have a good range of non-dairy milks as well. Sometimes it’s difficult to get a seat, but that just shows how popular it is I guess.

Brilliant friendly cafe serving delicious coffee, fresh pastries and fantastic sandwiches. One of the best independent establishments I've been to in Bermondsey and I've been working in the area for over 3 years. Well worth a visit!

  • 4/5 Sean O. 3 years ago on Google
Coffee was above average but not as good as others in the area (Watch House for example). Avocado sourdough toast was excellent, fresh bread, nice avocado and chilli flakes. Very inexpensive and despite the toast being simple they executed it well without trying to make it overcomplicated like other cafes who seem to drench it in olive oil or make it difficult to eat using your hands.

Great oatmilk lattes and coffee in general, and well adapted for CV 19 new guidelines. Friendly staff. Have not tried food yet. They have a few outdoor tables but can get noisy as it sits next to tower bridge road.
