Tippu Tip built himself a trading empire that he then translated into clove plantations on Zanzibar. Abdul Sheriff reported that when he left for his twelve years of "empire building" on the mainland, he had no plantations of his own. By 1895, he had acquired "seven 'shambas' [plantations] and 10,000 slaves".[6] He met and helped several famous western explorers of the African continent, including David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley.[7]:Vol. Two,91ā€“97 Between 1884 and 1887 he claimed the Eastern Congo for himself and for the Sultan of Zanzibar, Bargash bin Said el Busaidi. In spite of his position as protector of Zanzibar's interests in Congo, he managed to maintain good relations with the Europeans. When, in August 1886, fighting broke out between the Swahili and the representatives of King Leopold II of Belgium at Stanley Falls, al-MurjabÄ« went to the Belgian consul at Zanzibar to assure him of his "good intentions". Although he was still a force in Central African politics, he could see by 1886 that power in the region was shifting. Courtesy of Wikipedia. Local people purposely use the plot next to his house as a dump.

Simple: it is not there. Or at least not accessible. And VERY difficult to find, no signage whatsoever and even locals are not aware. But, it is closed...

If you want to know more about history, and take a picture in the door of the house of slave trader, you can come here. Is just a door and you canā€™t get inside because is closed for tourists.

Tippu Tip's HouseĀ is a historical building inĀ Stone Town,Ā Zanzibar, located in Suicide AlleyĀ in theĀ ShanganiĀ ward near theĀ Africa House HotelĀ andĀ Serena Inn, about 15ā€“25 minute walking time from theĀ Old FortĀ andĀ Forodhani Gardens. It is the house where the powerful merchant andĀ slave traderĀ Tippu TipĀ (1837ā€“1905) lived. The building was a private residence until theĀ Zanzibar RevolutionĀ and was later converted into a block of flats.

This house was owned by a famous slave trader. One of historical places in Zanzibar. The place is under construction.

My mother used to live here. Yes, itā€™s under renovation, but when the refurbishment is complete it will be lovely to come back and visit.
