Pretty tired (botanical) garden and associated buildings, originally set up by the German colonisers in 1893. It is more or less abandoned although, fortunately, some specimens took root before being neglected. Upon entering a 'guide' will engage in conversation with you as he shows you around the various indigenous and non-indigenous trees and shrubs such as mahogany, royal palm, ebony, teak, ylang-ylang, etc. I did find the abandoned greenhouse interesting, with a bit of imagination, and it was a nice enough, informative enough wander for 30 mins or so. Peacocks roam freely, including taking their chances on the road outside, as they look for palm nuts to eat. Guide asks for Tsh5,000.....I paid him less, the "tour" wasn't great.

This garden has so much potential but it appears to have been neglected and not funded for years. Nonetheless its a nice for a quick stroll through or to sit and relax - its very quiet and peaceful.

More of a park than a botanical garden. Some nice specimens of trees. Nice shady spot to hang out, if it weren’t for the mosquitoes!

More of small park than a botanical garden if you want to sit and relax that’s your go to place but no botany is going on around there. Don’t get your hopes up too high.

Dar es salaam Zoo gives an opportunity to foreigners and locals to get close to animals and interact with some animals such as monkeys, horses, donkeys and camels, also providing a dream ride for the visitors. Nguva river is also one of the biggest attraction of Dar es salaam Zoo, providing water and cool climate for the natural vegetation attracting different species of colourful and uniquely attractive birds, butterflies and other natures beauty creations. It is one of the largest zoo's in East Africa hence providing its singular taste for both locals and foreigners. Thanks For Watching! 🙏🏻 ————————

Very little to see - more of a small park and a pretty neglected one at that. We were charged a few US dollars for a guided tour that consisted of being shown 3 different trees, then being palmed off onto someone who barely spoke english other than 'this a big tree' and 'this another big tree'. Money not well spent. Just look at the garden from the roadside and avoid the people charging you for virtually nothing in return.

Rather disappointing. Some nice trees, but no flowers and also no explainations. I think they should put more money in this place, it could be a neat garden in the middle of Dar.

Spent a day and night at this unique zoo. It has varieties of animals and nice spots to relax with family and friends. Get to experience and learn about nature and both wild and domestic animals. The Dar es Salaam zoo society is very friendly and helpful.

Outside people told me than the entry was free but when I go inside, a employee for there tell me than I have to pay 55000 TZN I told them that I don't have that money, he take all the money that I have in my bag (9000TZN) and tell me than I have to go outside. He stole me because I was for another country 😡😡😡

In reality, it's just a slightly backward park, far from a botanical garden.

As some of the previous reviews have said there’s not much botany here but there’s a lot of potential, it just needs some funding. I was probably a little generous with the 3 stars but there are some interesting trees and good for if you need some quiet time.

Waste of time. Back in the day maybe it looked nice, now it's just a dump yard. Neglected, filthy, full of garbage and mosquitos. Plus the local guys hassling you for money. Not worth the visit.

This will feel more like a small park than a botanical garden. There’s no entrance fee, but the name is misleading so I would not recommend making a special trip for this. If you happen to be going to the National Museum, it doesn’t hurt to swing by and enjoy the greenery. The staff here was nice, and one of them took us for a brief tour, which was more helpful in understanding the trees around us (since we are not experts by any definition). However, when we gave him a small tip at the end he asked for more.

It's not so much a a botanical garden, more of just a public park. Don't expect much but it's a nice place to go sit in the shade

Quite a small place. There is the guy taking care of the place and gives a short tour and there are a few monkeys which may also be seen from outside as they go in and out of the garden. however place is a little neglected and the guy asks for money at the end !

Nicely arranged zoo with a good presence of animals in good health. The zoo is well maintained and all staff are very courteous and polite. Even under current circumstances the owners have maintained the zoo well and very clean. Nice place for a one day family outing.

It is a nice place to visit this zoo but I request the management of the dar es Salaam zoo to keep the board at the outside of the main road entering inside the rough road. Please ask the authorities to make a tarmet road inside. It is very far from the kigamboni bridge to dar es Salaam zoo.
