Very beautiful landmark of Baghdad, full of history. This war memorial evokes light. It’s a gorgeous sky blue set against white. You can’t quite understand the magnitude of how big and beautiful it is until you are up-close. It’s not the same as from a car. Downstairs there is a small memorial museum and the etchings of the names of those fallen.

is a monument designed by Iraqi sculptor, Ismail Fatah Al Turk, and is situated in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad. It is dedicated to the Iraqi soldiers who died in the Iran–Iraq War. However, now it is generally considered by Iraqis to be a commemoration of all of Iraq's martyrs. It’s one of the best places for capturing photos

Martyr Monument is one of the most prominent architectural landmarks in Baghdad. It is designed by the Iraqi architect Saman Asaad Kamal and the dome designed by the Iraqi plastic artist Ismail Fattah Turk. The genius of design lies in the visual illusion of the monument on a wide open ground. The car passes around the monument. The two sides of the dome seem to be closed at the beginning of the street and begin to move away from one another as if a gate opens in front of it. When the visitor enters the site of the monument, he observes that this thing is to me, which rises to the top as an embodiment of the elevation of the spirit of martyr to heaven. Inscription inside the monument

Stunning. It's a landmark that you can't miss when in Baghdad. One of the most iconic structures within the region. It also houses a museum directly under it (though it isn't always open?). There structure has become home to many birds that nest under the shaded area bellow. It's actually beautiful to see and admire 🙏🏻💕

As an architect who has travelled all over the world, this monument is unlike anything I've ever seen. Simple, elegant, and a bit monolithic. Way ahead of its time.

Must see in Baghdad! Including the museum underneath the monument. Breath taking. It’s 3000 Iraqi Dinar each on the door to enter the Nasb Al-Shaheed (the Martyr Monument).

A monument designed by sculptor Iraqi Ismail Fettah Turk in 1983 and is located in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad in the Rusafa side of Baghdad. Built this monument in memory of Iraqi soldiers killed in the Iran-Iraq war. However, Iraqis today are generally considered to commemorate all the martyrs of Iraq

A great place to visit in Baghdad. The monument was originally dedicated to the victims of the Iran-Iraq but now represents the loss of subsequent conflicts. Free entry and a museum on the bottom floor. It’s easy to get some alone time there during certain times of the week.

The place is great and really worth a visit! The thing that prevented me from giving five stars is the presence of a government department in the same building, which caused crowding at the entrance to the museum!

Having only driven by here and never visited on foot, I can say that it is a beautiful area even with the mad looks from the local population. I'm not sure why they were angry because the traffic wasn't bad and we only drew gunfire every few trips. Sure, there were IEDs but don't let that deter you from a scenic desert oasis.

However, now it is generally considered by Iraqis to be a commemoration of all of Iraq's martyrs not just of the Iran–Iraq War, Al-Shaheed was constructed in Baghdad's Rusafa, and this monument is one of three monuments that were built to remember Iraq's pain and suffering as a consequence of the eight-year war. The first of these structures was The Monument to the Unknown Soldier (1982); followed by Al-Shaheed (1983) and finally the Victory Arch (1989). The three monuments form a visual and metaphorical unit. Designed by the Iraqi sculptor and artist, Ismail Fatah Al Turk

Al-Shaheed Monument, also known as the Martyr's Memorial, is a monument which was built between 1981 and 1983 and dedicated to the Iraqi soldiers who died in the Iran–Iraq war. It is a distinctive stone monument designed by the Iraqi sculptor Ismail Fatah Al Turk, consisting of an Abbasid arabesque dome 132 feet high, covered with green-blue ceramic tiles and surrounded by beautiful well-kept gardens. Includes a museum under the monument.
