One of the many Catholic churches you can visit in Iloilo. We attended the afternoon mass and it's very crowded. The altar is very beautiful. Pay a visit to the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria located in front.

Jaro Cathedral is another example of the historical baroque architecture in the country. Built in 1864 by the order of Mariano Cuartero, who is the first bishop of Jaro. In 1948, this structure was destroyed by an earthquake and was restored in 1956 by the order of the first archbishop Jose Ma. Cuenco. The famous orator, Graciano Lopez Jaena was baptized in this church. In 1976, this church was proclaimed as Historical Landmark by the National Historical Institute.

The National Shrine of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria (English: Our Lady of Candles) is one of Iloilo’s pride as a religious site of worship and historical site. It is located on the busy streets of Jaro, Iloilo. The facade of the shrine has a stairway leading to the miraculous statue of Our Lady. Fronting the church is the famous Jaro Belfry in municipality’s plaza

Best place to ponder and feed your self spiritually. When in times that you feel lost, distracted or worried, try to go here and all your concerns will be lighten. Recently I always attend 5pm-6pm mass wherein it is recommendable to go here at least 3mins before so that you will have space inside the church to sit down. They are following the CoVid protocols and at least 1-2 persons are only allowed to sit in a long bench inside the church. Hoping everyone are healthy physically, mentally and spiritually. 💖

At the balcony of this Cathedral is a statue of our lady and they say from the day it was installed there it started to grow. It was installed by Blessed Pope John Paul II when he first visited the Philippines. I noticed quite peculiar all the saints standing in the inner stands of the church are male saints. This is in contrast to another church in the city, the Molo Church, wherein this time the saints are female saints.

The place is a nice place for asking a wish and forgiveness to God. I suggest you go at the altar at the stairs side and make a wish to God! Lots of devotees are praying here for forgiveness and blessings from God

A big and attractive cathedral from outside. I never saw the church was open. I think its interesting to see itz one time from inside. But outside a lot of cars and bike parking. You will see from outside of the church is very old because of the color, but the beautifulness of the church never disappeared

Jaro Cathedral (formally known as Jaro Metropolitan Cathedral and the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Candles) is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Jaro. It is located in the district of Jaro in Iloilo City, Iloilo, on the island of Panay. The shrine is constructed in the Romanesque Revival style, deviating from semi-circular arches. The church has a large open courtyard and while I didnt get a chance to go inside due to a wedding being held within I can already tell that this church is historically beautiful, and arcitectually beautiful. I highly recommend seeing this in your tours of the city!!

Second time witnessing this church upclose. I had a great experience visiting it. From its ambiance and beauty, it is truly an amazing church that Iloilo could showcase.

Churches have always a soft spot in my heart. I am fascinated with the interiors, though the interiors of the cathedral is not 100% original it still looks majectic.

The first and the oldest cathedral in the island of Panay. I regularly attends mass here and the Adoration Chapel is air-conditioned

Right in the hustle and bustle of Iloilo city. Altar was closed when we visited but the candlehouse was very solemn.

My first time in Iloilo and this is one of my "to go to" destination. I was left in awe with the structure. So magestic and elegant. It is also adjacent to the main plaza, the Rizal Park. It's the best place to stroll and walk around. The main reason why I always want to set foot to the cathedral is the coronada, the canonically crowned Nuestra Señora de Candelaria, Our Lady of the Candles. I was in tears seeing it for the first time. She was so beautiful. This place should be one if not, the top priority when visiting Iloilo City. You can spend any time of the day and enjoy the scenes of the area...

The first time I came to this church, I was completely attracted by the solemn appearance. This is a very beautiful church. The calm atmosphere is reassuring and I want to stay inside the church.❤️

Whether you want to have a quiet time with God or wants to attend a mass, the cathedral is perfect place to go. They have ample parking and big space for every church goers. There's a comfort room for men and women, a store for religious items and there are vendors in the facade for fresh flowers, rosaries and candles.

Construction of the building was finished in 1874 but was destroyed by an earthquake in 1948 and was later repaired in 1956. In 1981 Pope John Paul II paid a visit to the cathedral. He declared the Candelaria as the Patroness of the Western Visayas by setting a crown upon the Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria.

This church patron saint is Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria. Its feast is celebrated on Feb. 2 and the biggest feast being celebrated in the city Iloilo. Come and visit Iloilo to experience the past where meets the present.

A wonderful baroque cathedral more known as "Male Church" because of the male saints that stands inside. The only female in this church is Nuestra Senora de la Candelaria. Jaro Cathedral is one of the few churches in the Philippines with a separate bell tower (across the street). Despite being destroyed during the late 1948's earthquake, it still remained as beautiful and historic as it was before.
