Yes, I know that it is not one of the most visited churches in Iloilo nor doea it hold that much historical significance but for me this is a must-see church. There is just this atmosphere that is different from all the other churches such as Molo and Jaro Cathedral. The lighting is perfect and it's got that surreal feeling.

This is my parish for one year now and it helps me nourish my spiritual life through its sacred grounds and homilies of different officiating priest. Although they speak more of the vernacular language which I have the difficulty to understand, it somehow encourages me to learn and be in union withe churchgoers. There are at least 8 masses during Sundays to choose from. English mass at 7:30 and 4 and the rest is in hiligaynon.. I like better the early morning masses because it is still cool. The place is ventilated by electric fans.

I rode on a jeep with Jaro CPU-Plaza Libertad signage and was dropped off at Plaza Libertad itself. Across the plaza, the San Jose Placer Parish Church is located. I saw the striking brick red Church from a short distance so I tend to walk a few meters away until I reached the Church. There was an on-going wedding ceremony and certainly the center aisle was filled with flowers and chandeliers were fully lit. I saw the grandeur and beauty of the Church. I took some pictures from behind since the entourage, families and their guests were occupying the front rows of the Church. After the wedding, I took again some pictures closed to the altar. I saw two of the Church's treasures, the Image of the Sto. Nino and the Image of Nuestra Sra. del Santo Rosario. The latter is believed to be about 400 years old since it was found in the year 1616. (Date of visit - 9/16/17)

It's a beautiful church were you do the "sadsad" or the dance that you wave your hands in honor of Señor Santo Niño. During the Dinagyang festival the church is full of people so better be early when you want to attend mass and wants to seat inside the church .Outside the church there' a projector that allows people to see and join the mass celebration even if they stays in the park. The famous sadsad usually held outside the church after mass.

San Jose Church is located at Plaza Libertad and is highly devoted to Sto. Nino. The church houses the replica of Santo Niño de Cebú, the patron saint of the Dinagyang Festival. It is also the first ever church in the city of Iloilo. The church has a Renaissance design with Corinthian columns and Gothic touches. It is a beautiful church that is worth visiting when you are in Iloilo City.
