The Denver Zoo is one of the best zoos I've been to. I would give it third place - behind only San Diego & the National Zoo. It's a very big zoo for being right in the city, with easy access from downtown and 25. Admission is incredibly reasonable and is a better deal than the aquarium. The enclosures are great and the animals seem very well cared for. We did a "behind the scenes" with birds of pretty and it was excellent! Tons of great information the keepers were amazing and clearly loved the animals they work with. 100% recommend it!

It’s super spread out, a great place to get steps. Some animal enclosures were small and I came on a holiday so the crowds were thick—some animals appeared stressed. They had an impressive collection of venomous snakes which were very visible.

We had a great time here. This zoo is much better than the Birmingham Zoo. I would rate the zoo five star, but several exhibits are closed for renovations. The elephant show was great. We were able to see one tiger. The other one was sleeping on a platform and only partially visible. We saw some lions, seals and sea lions. Our time was limited, so we did not see much else. If you need to leave and return the same day, then you can get your hand stamped and not have to pay to come back in on the same day.

It was hot but the animals were still out and about. There was a queue at the ticket kiosk so buy your ticket in advance. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes. There are lots of benches to rest along the way. Also, they have water fountains and misters. It's great for both adults and kids. The animals look like they are in good care.

The Zoo is such a blast. One of the most fun things you can do in the Denver Metro Area. Buy your tickets early and plan ahead because they sell tickets by arrival times and if you want to come at a certain time, the tickets could be sold out for that particular time. This zoo has a number of really great attractions and fun animal exhibits. Two brand new ones are the sloth exhibit and the sting ray exhibit. I was disappointed to see that you have to pay an extra three dollars per person to see the sting rays. That’s unfortunate, and I feel like it’s unnecessary to make people pay extra when they’ve already paid to get in the zoo. My favorites are the Hippopotamus and the Rhinos. I also really liked the Elephants. If you go during mid summer, it can be really hot, and the animals will want to retreat into the shade and their dwellings during the heat of the day. I recommend going as early as possible in the morning, or perhaps later in the evening, so you can see the animals when they’re more active. We’ve also gone to the zoo later in the fall, when it’s cooler, and the animals seem more active at these times. If you do go in the middle of the summer, bring bottled water or a hydro flask, because in the heat it can be very easy to undergo dehydration very quickly. Also wear sunblock and a hat for your safety.

The zoo is a great spot to visit. Not only are the exhibits amazing and the animals entertaining, there is also good people watching. 😉 It is amazing how easy it is to log a couple of miles of walking while here. In the winter it is less crowded and some of the animals are more active, especially during the late afternoon feeding times.

My family travels to aquariums and zoos every chance we get. This is by far one of the BEST zoos we have visited. It is clear that the employees have a deep concern for the animals, the environment, and for conservation. They were happy to speak to all of the visitors and answers questions and offer information about the exhibits. There was much care given to ensure the safety of the animals, which included taking them off of display if it was in the animal’s best interest. This was actively communicated to the visitors through Keepers Notes. If an animal was not in it’s normal location, this was also communicated. Absolutely LOVED this zoo and highly recommend visiting it.

A lovely zoo, and clearly on the way to bigger things. The elephant enclosure is very impressive, the largest I've seen outside of Dan Diego. What they have now seems small for a city the size of Denver, but multiple construction projects are underway. The staff were friendly, informed, and engaged. More detailed maps throughout would be a nice touch, as we missed things and had to backtrack because the main map gave the impression of a simple loop that was not a match for how things felt while walking. Even with poor weather it was a great day out and I would visit again in the future.

This was my first visit to the zoo other than Zoo Lights. It was easy to move around and it looks like they have some great improvements coming. We had an entry time in the morning so a lot of the animals were just lying around but as the day went on, they were more active. The hospital was so impressive. The prices were reasonable. My only complaint was we wanted to just get some drinks with ice but had to wait in the long line. It would be nice if they had a beverage line only since there was a place with a cash register and beverage machine that were not being used. Otherwise, everything was amazing.

I've been a zoo member for six years and a zoo volunteer for two years. I always enjoy my time at the zoo, even on snowy and cool days. You may not see every animal every time, but it's amazing the different animals and behaviors you do see depending on the time and temperature. I highly recommend a zoo membership and timed tickets before the zoo opens to the general public. The cool mornings are great for the animals, especially Nikita the Amur tiger. My daughter is too young to enjoy the animals but loves people watching every time we go.

This is a must-see zoo for all of you animals/zoo lovers if you are ever in San Diego, it is a part of the wonderful Balboa Park, which contains a lot of fun museums and activities. The zoo is very large in size, it has so many different varieties of animals, and it would take you the whole day to really see everything and read about the animals, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Plan your day carefully, start by studying the map and making a route, don’t get lost always check with your map, I actually consulted some of the volunteers on the best route to follow, and they were very helpful, also make sure to ask about any available activities and plan your day accordingly if you are interested in any of them.

We love the Denver Zoo! They have amazing protocol in place during the pandemic so everyone still has fun and remains safe. My girls love the sea lions, giraffes, and lion cubs the most. The elephants are my personal favorite. They have a seasonal exhibit where you can feed and pet stingrays, which was fantastic. We have a great day everytime we go!

I am only giving this zoo 4 stars because they really should have cooling stations. I get that most days it is not as hot as it was today, but having just come from the Colorado Springs Zoo where there are plenty of cooling stations, it would have been nice. We would have stayed longer and for sure have sat down for a meal but it was way too hot. Lovely though and lots to see. Kris in the elephant area was extremely informative and was very pleasant to talk to. She also had great style!

Beautiful zoo with interactive activities for the kids. We were able to carry in a picnic lunch and the grounds had many lovely places to sit and rest. Our group especially liked the new elephant enclosure and the sting ray touch pool.

We went late in the day so many animals seemed to have gone out of their habitat and in to...well, where ever they go at night. It was a bummer that the birds were all quarantined, but we are 100% understanding of that. It was laid out nicely and the habitats were very nice, clean, and there were plenty of stimulating activities for the animals to enjoy.

Cooler weather seemed to have many of the animals inside. It also seemed to keep lost visitors from coming to the Zoo. Bird flu concerns had all the birds segregated. Despite all this, we were glad we came. It was a really nice visit with a variety of different animals. There was inside exhibits as well as outside ones. Staff were all nice and friendly and were more than happy to explain the characteristics and history of the different animals. That was awesome to hear and glad they have that option. I’d highly recommend going and I’d look forward to returning during warmer weather.

We love Denver Zoo! As of May 13th, 2023 there's lots of construction going on, so you might not see some animals. We loved that we could see the whole thing in less than 3 hours, and it was cool to see them really close from us. We got to enjoy some beer and popcorn while we walked. I recommend buying your tickets via online so you don't have to stand at the queue for so long.

This is a really fun, large, and clean zoo. They have a wide variety of animals and exhibits. Being quite large, it does require a lot of walking, so wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to take breaks if you come with very young children. It was also quite hot the day we went, and while there is some shade around the zoo, you may want to prepare by bringing water and sun protection. The elephant exhibit was especially impressive. We really enjoyed this zoo and would definitely recommend it for families and anyone who enjoys seeing animals!

So much stuff closed and under construction. Very underwhelming. I understand the need for expansion and growth but when half of the zoo seems inaccessible and you spend the other half looking for animals that aren't in their exhibit because they were moved but there's no signs stating so...eh.... Definitely child have been handled better to set better expectations going in. Needs work in that department.

Had a great time here with my wife and family. Definitely recommend to visit if you are in the area , lots of animals to see and enjoy . There is alot to see , expect to be there for more than a few hours to truly enjoy and experience everything. The staff is supper friendly and knowledgeable. Your going to have to do alot of walking, so bring comfy shoes and if it's a hot day bring your water bottle they got place you can fill it up . Food is mid and pricey, but when your hungry anything and everything tastes good . Bring some sun screen too to protect yourself from those harmful sun rays . I had a great time petting the stingrays and feeding the birds . They have a little train too that you can take your kids on. Lots to see and enjoy . Throughout the day they have little shows where you can learn about the animals , very fun to watch . Hope you enjoy your time there .

The Denver Zoo is a must see attraction. I've been here many times and it never gets old. The kids love it. The zoo is always updating or changing the exhibits. It's a nice place to get your steps in and it's surrounded by great restaurants. The zoo lights are always amazing to see.

This is such a great zoo, we went during a colder day in late November. The inside buildings alone took us a while not to mention many great larger animals as well. As we were leaving they started turning on the lights for a separate event. We had a great time and got some good pictures and videos.

The San Diego Zoo is amazing! I have been going here since I was a kid, and wow how it has grown over the years. We haven't been down here in several years, and certainly haven't been since I started reviewing places for the public interest. We ended up here on a Friday shortly after they reopened in February of 2021 from COVID. Everything was opened for the most part with the exception of the guided bus tours and the sky tram due to weather conditions on the day we were here. It was cold and rainy the first 3 or 4 hours we arrived which was awesome because the animals were out enjoying the wet weather . We saw the majority of the park in just shy of 6 hours. We brought our own snacks with us as we had a big breakfast before we went in, and had plans for a nice dinner at one of our local favorite spots afterwards. Word of advice for anyone that has trouble walking for very long. Rent a wheelchair or an electric scooter. There are a lot of ups and downs in the park and there is a lot of area to cover in a day. Make sure you bring plenty of water too. There are a lot of different places to eat and grab a drink or treat scattered throughout the zoo so you won't have any issues finding a snack if you don't mind paying for them. I always chalk up the steep prices to supporting the animals and the wonderful staff at this place. The money spent is more than worth the experience of seeing the plethora of animals that are here. I am attaching a ton of pictures that I took this trip. I am not even going to try and name all of them, but you will get the idea when you see them all. Cheers! Enjoy your trip to this wonderful park!

No joke. This is best zoo ever. Denver Zoo is a world class facility with thoughtful planning and layout. The staff were all awesome, very professional and well trained but the real attraction here is the design. They really go over the top to provide a realistic and immersive experience. Everything is up close and accessible for even the littlest ones. You can really feel the attention to detail and visitor experience. Thing

I spent around 3 hours here and it was so worth it!! I was very happy! This is included in the city pass and if it’s your first time in Denver city pass is def worth it. The zoo was huge and super cool!! I would go back! Also I saw the zoo lights and I was very very impressed! Felt like a kid again!

The zoo was really nice! I went on a day when the weather wasn't that great (which is my fault) so a lot of the animals were kind of hiding and what not. They have a good selection of animals which for the most part look super content. They have some parts under construction and the birds were all taken if for their own safety, so O feel like I didn't get the full experience, but I would love to go back and a day where everything is normal and it's nice out.

I liked my visit to the Zoo on my birthday February 19th. and had a good time but there were way too many people there after the city dropped the mask mandate that didn't wear masks in fully crowded indoor areas and I felt uncomfortable in those spaces even with a mask so I didn't stay inside more than a few minutes. I did however see a few people and some children with masks. I didn't get to see any gorillas just 2 orangutan youngsters and no adults which seemed a bit odd to me as it hit 60 degrees. All in all it was a good day at the Zoo.

We went to the Zoo Lights at night. It was a great time! The lights were great and they had a lot of fun setups. There had hot cocoa and hot cider, both could be spiked for some added fun. They did have a variety of animals and exhibits open as well so you definitely got to see some animals. To us about an hour and a half to walk (relatively slowly) through the whole zoo. Definitely would recommend.

Loved the sting ray exhibit and really enjoyed how close up the elepants were. Gets crowded quickly, I suggest going early. Plenty to see here, I don't think we actually saw all the exhibits because we were limited on time. Plan to stat at least a couple hours.

My sons both teen and toddler loved this place!! The train operates later at 1:30 so we weren't able to ride it because it would take too long. We loved all the animals. It is awesome that they have "hydration stations" for free water to keep everyone nice and hydrated. The carousel was beautiful and so much fun! I cannot wait for the flamingos to come into the zoo it will be a great addition.

Had a great time at the Denver Zoo. It's not very large but definitely still a great experience. It's very kid friendly, much like the Philadelphia Zoo experience. We thought Denver's Zoo was just as good. A must visit if you have small kids and live in the area.

Very nice zoo. Great size. Not too large to walk in a few hours. Love the tiger walk overhead. The tropical house is one of the nicest I have seen. Elephant information was short but good. We were impressed with how they treat the elephants. Lots of little information booths that were in service. We have a new membership, so we will be back.

Went during the week during February. Wasn’t too cold but a lot of the animals were inside, but did get to see almost all of them. Some construction going on which is probably best to do during winter months. Great experience. Clean zoo.

We have been to the Denver zoo on numerous occasions, but never for the lights. The lights were amazing! It seriously looked like a winter wonderland. Also, the entire zoo is wheelchair friendly. We had a great time and will definitely need to see the lights again next year. We also got the glow package that came with hot chocolate in a fun souvenir cup and the glasses that put stars onto Christmas lights.

Always a great time when visiting the Denver Zoo. With the recent snow storms, some animals were kept inside which is understandable. Came here in the AM and there were no crowds. Spent about two hours here and got to see everything without fighting a crowd. It’s a lovely experience and I think everyone from all ages will enjoy.

This was such a cool place. It was a beautiful day and all the animals were out and active. We especially loved the elephant area as they were filing and cleaning their feet. The employee working that area gave us a great education on the Denver Zoo elephants, their habits and training. Excellent!

Kudos to the Denver Zoo for creating the best possible experience with the pandemic. Tickets are timed in order to limit the number of people, the entire Zoo experience is a one-way-follow-the-arrows-on-the-path walk to limit exposure to people, high-touch surfaces were noted (where even allowed), very few people were in the gift shop, and people were very good about wearing masks and social distancing. I was pleasantly surprised and felt as though we were safe and healthy during our visit.

This is a small zoo for such a large city. Maybe you will see animals, most likely you wont. Now you have all of the indoor viewing areas closed as if this was to prevent the spread of COVID. If you are going to restrict viewing then reduce the price. After all this is Denver, CO and this is what you offer people who stop in this city from around the world! I think I would rather go to Omaha, NB to see a zoo. I took only 5 pics that day. Nothing else picture worthy.

This is a nice zoo. The exhibits are designed in a way to provide visitors with a minimally obstructed view of the animals. Very few fences used relative to most other zoos. For traffic was very light in the middle of the week, making social distancing very easy to achieve.

I really wanted to give them 5 stars but they had a pretty ridiculous amount of the park still closed due to “COVID”. We still managed to have a pretty amazing time here and spent a good amount of time looking at each animal. It’s hard to compare to our KC Zoo which is cheaper and more than double the size of this one. I felt like some of the enclosures were a bit small for their respective animals too which I didn’t like.

Buy your ticket online, get there early, bring hand sanitizer. The line outside moves quickly in the morning but most stations inside the park ran out of hand sanitizer by noon. The staff is super helpful and friendly but make sure you plot a course straight to the animals you want to see first since it does get really crowded around the small viewing windows for animals like tigers and gorillas.

With the reopen of the zoo. It was quite nice being in an environment familiar from before. With covid now, the zoo has appropriate signs for keeping compliance. If anything it's the people that need to manage better and not be in a rush for evading others space just to witness a moment the residents are displaying. Overall rating was to my satisfaction. It's been a week from visit and my partner and I feel fine but that's not to say anyone may be so fortunate. Take care

A world class zoo in a world class city, the San Diego zoo is superb for many reasons. It's an educational experience for all who go, and a reminder of the beautiful world of plants and animals. This is a must see if you are visiting from out of town. If you are local and have children, the annual pass is the way to go and offers an easy go to experience for Mom, Dad and the kids. Plus, you can do all this while enjoying a beer. That's a huge plus. I love this place.

I've been to two zoos in the U.S. Washington D.C. zoo and the Denver zoo. Here are the reasons why I think Denver zoo is superior. The zoo has a pretty well planned layout that makes sense. I like the decision to keep the animals from the same regions together in the same pans as you might find them in nature which I didn't see in DC zoo. Denver zoo has more rides than D.C. and as a full grown adult, I still wished I could ride the cool train. The number of empty/unavailable exhibits are also fewer, most had animals in them while D.C. one had a lot of empty exhibits for different reasons. Themes and vibes created for the areas through building styles and music are also quite incredible around the zoo. Why do I rate 4 stars? D.C. zoo is free and Denver zoo is $20 for general admission. In value comparison, it's probably even, if D.C. zoo isn't better. $20 would price out a lot of families. $5 ~ $10 range would totally push it to 5 starts imo. If you're fine with the entry fee, I'd 100% recommend it as a must-visit place for families visiting/living in Denver.

So much animals to view. From reptiles to mammals... The place is huge and packed with animals. Buy tickets in advance to skip the line. Your kids or even adults would enjoy if you love animals. For toddles i suggest to bring strollers just in case they get tired of all the walking.

This is my first time here and they are working on upgrading the zoo but it was still overall a good experience. The only closed exhibits were the birds because of the bird flu risk. I recommend bringing extra cold water as it is hot and there are very few shaded areas. You can bring food and drinks as long as you don’t bring glass. Also, download the free zoo app and you will have a map that you can reference throughout your visit.

First time doing the Denver Zoo light spectacular and it was absolutely remarkable. I love how they spread out different themes throughout the park ie: makes it look like you're walking through the ocean and another part like you're walking through the jungle. Over 1 million lights! Getting the glow pass and the zoo it all pass are great additions! The glow pass gives you 3-D glasses that are VERY fun & unique to view all the lights! That pass also gives you a nice insulated souvenir cup. The Zoo it all pass gives you unlimited rides on the train, carousel and 4-D show which is perfect for families of all ages. Perfect seasonal fun for the entire family.

The zoo was beautiful, they have had and continue to add a lot of new things. On this visit a lot of places were under construction and or closed. But even with that being said there still was so much to see. I can’t wait till everything is completed to see how amazing it will be. This is always a great place to visit and spend the day.

And there were places all throughout the zoo where you could get snacks and drinks. They also have different places throughout the zoo for cooling off with a fine must spray. As well as bathrooms throughout. There were lots of families with small children in strollers and pulling wagons, as well as wheelchair access. Lots of shady areas and benches to rest throughout. Plan on spending at least 3-4 hours for a really good visit. We didn't get to see some of the animals because of the time of day and the heat, they were resting in shady areas, but overall it was a very good experience. I had purchased tickets online, but you can also get tickets at the gate. The RTD bus station is about a 10 minute walk from the zoo. We did wish that was closer to the zoo.

We LOVE going to zoos. The lemurs we're our favorite here and I was so excited to get dip'n'dots. The food was good and the train ride was cute. I wish they told us more animal facts or puns on the train ride.

A beautiful day at the zoo today with our homeschool co-op - even with the avian flu Breakout and the construction we filled 5 hours with fun on our scavenger hunt based off our group read aloud! We have always loved the zo land we are so happy to be back again after all the covid restrictions! We were able to get tickets ahead of time and ran into a lot of helpful staff! We can't wait to come back to see the birds and bears soon.

The Denver Zoo is great. I love that they have new signs with the animals names now and information about the individual and not just the species. The $5 after 5 is awesome as it's been too hot to go during the day but it's so much more bearable to walk around the zoo in the evening and some of the animals were more active then. Memberships are also awesome and so worth it if you live nearby!

Went here with my family during a recent trip to Denver and had a fantastic experience. There is a huge variety of animals here and the park is very big so we couldn't even see everything. Loved the sea lion show, and the elephant habitat was very impressive. The park amenities are in very good shape, and there are a lot of good food and beverage options. They have coffee and beer for adults, which is always appreciated. This zoo requires you to buy tickets in advance, so make sure you look into that before you go. We didn't have an issue getting tickets, but we bought 10 days in advance just to make sure. There is some ongoing construction but nothing that should really affect your experience too much. The zoo is also a little tricky to navigate, and the app is pretty much worthless. Better wayfinders would be very helpful. Also, do not pay for the train ride. It only lasts about 5 minutes and you can't see anything. I definitely recommend this zoo for families and animal lovers. You'll have a great time.

It was the worst zoo experience ever in the world‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️ We were disappointed at the atmosphere, customer service, workers’ professionalism, and the entire policy. The all animals were pretty much limited to only one or two. Nothing to see in their variety. It was very crowded on the weekend, so we were seeing lots of people than animals. Before we entered this zoo, we were informed with a MAP which areas were prohibited to enter for us since we had a service dog. After all the walking through the crowd without any problem like always, at one point, she barked once because the monkeys were shouting multiple times. The head security guard came up to us with over-exaggeration saying the map was wrong and they were supposed to update it. On the map, we were allowed to be in the caged monkey session. He did not apologize that they instructed us at first with the wrong information. This zoo needs to work hard to improve its deficiency. The price was unreasonable. Customer service was horrible. 🤮

They really like to trap you in the elephant and monkey exhibits so you can't find your way out but overall it's a fine zoo. The short and sweet elephant show was great with lots of conservation info and Jake (the elephant) did such a good job! You can tell the employees really care, for example an orangutan mommy had just given birth and they had a zookeeper there explaining everything and keeping order so all guests could see the baby. I also really liked their animal hospital and that you can observe procedures, very unique and awesome experience if something is going on. The only thing I'd wish was for more big cats :)

We hadn’t been to the Denver zoo in a few years and I was so impressed with the transformation that has taken place. They have redeveloped multiple areas of the park to better accommodate animals and allow for close up viewing. Several areas are under reconstruction and I’m excited to see what is coming next! We had special sightings of a baby mandrill, wallabies being trained, an elephant presentation, and a baby sloth from right underneath. All staff were friendly and informative and seem to really care.

This was a massive disappointment. The zoo itself is clean and the staff is friendly. But that’s about all I can say that’s positive. I’ve been to a lot of zoos over the years and this one was by far the most empty one I’ve ever been to. More animal exhibits are empty/being rebuilt than ones with animals. We were really excited as first time visitors. But I couldn’t suggest spending the time or money in the current empty state it’s in.

ON THE CONSTRUCTION- if people took the time to read, the construction is 1. New habitats for current animals 2. They are adding an exhibit for new animals incoming! So there is nothing you really miss! That was a dramatic statement from people. They do no longer have seals but I’m sure there’s a reason for that. Had a great experience at the zoo! My boyfriend & I love visiting different zoos when we travel & we had a great day there!

If one has a SNAP card, Admission is only $1, up to 10 admissions - a way better deal than the $24 now being charged. Incredible that is costs that much - way more than when I was a kid. But then, the DZ has upgraded its exhibits and facilities through the decades. A few animal exhibits were empty, such as bears, seals and others. Still, it's a nice facility with good informational signs and exotic animals that seem to do well at high elevation.

We visited the Denver Zoo as a part of a school field trip. It was a lot of fun but there was a lot of construction going on as they were renovating a lot of it. I'd say the coolest and most unique aspect of this zoo is the Elephants and the Elephant show that they do. It is incredible to watch how the trainers interact with such huge animals and how the animals perform. Such a fun experience for the kids and the adults!

We went yesterday. A lot of construction. A lot of the animals were not out. They no longer have the sea lions. The good part was it was very handicap accessible. The virtual reality attraction was really fun. I was also glad to see that some of the animals were able to go inside and outside if they chose to.

Nice zoo, ready to spend half a day with family. Kids loved it, especially the extra things like touching stingrays etc. only con was Some construction is going on, some place missing proper directions. Staff is great and there are some limited eatery options. Seen plenty of parking available as well.

Great spot to take the kids, we went this month (January 2024) no crowds or wait lines, it was cold so some animals were not outside in their enclosure. There was also construction going on. Over all we spent about 3 hrs. The workers were great in informing us about the animals.

I enjoy the Denver Zoo for many reasons. For one, this zoo is very much involved in worldwide efforts to protect and repopulate a multitude of species. For another, they are working hard to update and improve the habitats for the animals. This zoo has been a fixture in Denver for a very long time and the standards for habitats have changed since it's inception. Over the last several years there has been significant improvements made for the animals including the lion enclosure and the wonderful elephant habitat that was built in partnership with Toyota automotive. There are currently even more habitats being improved along with new habitats being built to introduce more variety for the public to enjoy. As a father, it makes me happy to see my daughter interested in reading all of the facts about the many species cared for at the zoo and ask questions of the friendly caretakers there. Each time we go, we find stations throughout the zoo where there is a staff member with a booth teaching the patrons facts about a variety of animals which both my daughter and I enjoy. A great place for kids and adults to spend the day enjoying and learning about amazing creatures. I highly recommend it!

Best place for families with lots of options like food, lights , mini train , animals, resting benches, etc. Key things I Loved watching Elephant, giraffe, rhino, hippo, all kinds of snakes, aqua, penguins, reptiles , lot of wild animals from Africa and Asia. I recommend everyone to plan at least 4 hours for the visit because they close at 5 and there are lots of options to spend time with. Food - I tried Kamala Cafe and pizza place both were good. Coming to Denver lights during year end - kids love it (Adults may like it) but don't expect much Go to a place for families within city limits . I enjoyed the time out there.

Beautiful zoo! My toddler & I had a long layover in Denver on our way to NOLA & we decided to visit the Denver Zoo. It was very clean & well kept. My son's favorite exhibit was the penguins, they have an adorable set up. My favorite were the elephants, I've never seen so many elephants in one zoo. As recommended by the website, we ordered our tickets online, the tickets were sent to my email. We scanned the tickets & were able to enjoy the zoo quickly. I would definitely go back again! Due to the layover, we only saw maybe half of the Denver Zoo.

Half of the exhibits were closed. There were no monkeys, no lions, no tigers etc. Wish we would have known before we went. We would have waited until summer time to take our kids. There should have been information posted about all the closed exhibits as these are outdoor exhibits with 50 degree weather, we did not expect them to be closed. Otherwise it was fun!

My husband and I are from out of town but bought tickets online to visit once we arrived. Due to COVID a lot of the attractions inside of the zoo are closed and also because of the winter weather I believe most of the animals were inside. Cant say I blame them! We’ve never been to the Denver Zoo before and honestly would go again but maybe another time when either COVID restrictions lessen (smaller animal buildings were closed that were informative centers for animals) or the weather warms up. When you go though, check out the sea lion because he’s the model of the Zoo! ❤️

These bulls are not to be hurt, they are to be on live display . The Miura Bull enclosure will look like a grassland exhibit. Keep a Miura Fighting bull with 6 Angus Beef cows. One rule of thumb is that a bull can service about as many cows as his age in months. Therefore, a 15-month-old bull should be able to service approximately 15 cows in a typical 60-day breeding season. Imagine if they contained 4 Miura bull Mexican Fighting Bulls and 8 cows. in a enclosure. The Cows and Miura Fighting Bull Eating their hay bales. Deliver a newborn calf named Wild thing. The majority of that is hay – up to 300 pounds for each Elephant alone! – but they also eat produce and tree matter, or “browse.” and 15 gallons of water per day. Elephants are herbivores, feeding on grasses and leaves and using their powerful trunks to dig for roots or break off large tree branches. Most zoos in the USA use nutritionally complete commercial diets to feed exotic felids, canids, mustelids, and viverrids rather than attempt to prepare diets in-house. In other parts of the world, a whole or partial carcass (eg, of cows or horses) may regularly be fed. in my opinion Lilith the young female Lynx should've been tranquilized not shot. Dangerous Encounters Often Have an Unhappy Ending In November, a tiger escaped from a circus in Paris and wandered through the streets before entering a packed train station, where it was shot and killed by circus employees. In Wales, a young lynx named Lillith was shot and killed after escaping from her enclosure at a zoo. She was on the run for nearly two weeks and was found wandering in a residential area when authorities ordered her to be shot. The zoo where Lillith lived came under scrutiny for improper enclosures and handling, and a petition was started to have the facility shut down. These escapes might seem harmless and are often viewed as comical, but there’s nothing funny about the situations these animals are placed in. Even animals that are accustomed to being around humans can still experience stress in captive situations, and when they escape, they can become injured or cause harm to others. And for animals that are wild or predators by nature, their escapes can result in highly dangerous situations that, in many cases, result in the animals losing their lives. In the Bird world house building,in the Tropical bird environment, I looked down and this Black Necked Swan was pacing back and forth, man,the need to give them something to do. Here is what you need: Romain Lettuce, Watermelon, Rhino Toys Oball Then, all you do is go Edward Scissor Hands on that mess and start stuffing it into the Oball. BAM. Donezo. When people ask me what’s the perfect predator, to me there are none, predators risk their lives everyday, sustaining injuries on a daily basis. Elephants have to eat 300 pounds of fodder per day and 15 gallons of water per day. Casper the Komodo Dragon, well he's sadly passed away.RIP boi! Animal Escapes Are No Laughing Matter. Either the animal and people can get hurt In Philadelphia, a cow named Stormy being used as a prop in a church’s nativity scene escaped not once, but twice in the same day. it could've been a much different outcome, because cows are dangerous, a camel escaped from a circus,it was bought back safely but it could've been much worse. Really enjoyed the Zoo Lights experience! They have heaters all around the park and plenty of refreshments/snacks. The train and carousel was fun as well. Not many animals out due to the cold weather but the scenery was beautiful! Happy we could do our part to help keep them a float and be able to care for the animals as they are struggling during this difficult time. We will definitely be back in the Spring!

We visited today (mid-50's in January). Buy your tickets ahead of time online. They are currently limiting visitors and are only allowing timed entry. I believe all of the indoor areas are closed at this time except one. We chose not to wait in line, so I am unsure what animals were in that building. Many of the animals were not visible probably due to the temperature; however, we saw more of some animals that I have not often seen in the summer. The admission price was $15 for an adult and $10 per child (infants are free). I think this was less than I remember paying. PRO TIP: print out a zoo scavenger hunt for your kids to complete while you wander the zoo . I think this was one of our better trips to the Denver Zoo.

My first time there, and I have lived in Colorado for 40+ years. It was a nice day to go to the Zoo, but I was a little disappointed with what few animals were available to see. And some of them really seemed kinda sad, Unlike the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, and it was different. But had a great day. Maybe it's just the covid thing or winter, but for a big city Zoo, I think it was nice, at least its fairly flat, and easy for those with a disability to get around. Really liked that part.

This is my favorite zoo. The animals are clearly well taken care of, and they’re constantly updating enclosures and exhibits to make it more animal friendly! They have lots of barricades up to protect us and the animals from catching COVID-19. The staff is always friendly, and it’s awesome to see that in the 10 years I’ve been visiting how they keep evolving to make the zoo more enriching for the animals. I highly recommend visiting the Denver zoo for everyone!

We went to the zoo in the dead of winter with a balmy high of 25. Sadly, we were unable to see many of the animals because of that. Nevertheless, quite a few were out, including the kangaroos. (What's that about?) We enjoyed the giraffes (inside), the seals, penguins, lion, and flamingos the best. Even in winter, it was well worth the trip!

  • 5/5 Dallas B. 3 years ago on Google
Really awesome zoo. Much better than the one in my state, Montana. 26 years old and finally saw my favorite animal the penguin. Highly recommend

We were gifted an annual membership for the holidays and could not be more pleased with the perks. We enjoy the reservation system and have never struggled to find a time slot that works for our toddler’s nap/meal-time scheduling. The attractions are clearly labeled with arrow markers to indicate the 1 hour & 1.5-2 hour loop options. The carousel is now open and felt very safe with dividers and sections blocked off to provided a safe distance between guests. We have found that the predator section features feedings on Tuesday afternoons around 2pm and those have been both fun and informative!

Such a fantastic zoo! We had a blast as a couple. Seems great for kids too! We miss the indoor attractions but there are enough outdoor enclosures to be happy :)

  • 5/5 Sarah A. 3 years ago on Google
The denver zoo has been great at adapting to covid safety! Masks are mandatory during the whole visit (except when eating or drinking off to the side), and 6 foot distancing is required (but not always followed). This makes it feel safe even for people who are concerned about covid but are ok with doing activities outside. The carousel is open for rides! But at the moment that is the only activity that has an additional charge. As always, we love going to see the animals and learning a little more about one or the other! We always have a special moment with a different animal each time we visit! Maybe we see a new baby rino, or the gorillas are playing, or we see the tigers out and about. We love that every visit brings new special memories!

We love taking our daughter to the zoo! The place is pretty large for a city zoo. You can do the whole thing in about 2 hours. I personally think the elephants are the best to watch. For $15 a person, this is a steal. We've gone a few times during COVID. They've done a tremendous job at timing the entries and structuring the loop so that people keep flowing. They're also taking advantage of the drop in foot traffic to upgrade some exhibits (NEW HOME FOR THE PENGUINS!!!!). I'm looking forward to seeing the zoo packed again.

Zoo lights 2020! Even with the pandemic and snow it’s was a very magical and bright experience. Staff was very friendly and easy to find. Kid and adult friendly. Bring your own water bottle and snacks if needed they have water bottle filling stations around the zoo. Great touch to help save the environment

This was the most beautiful Christmas set up I have ever been to! Everything was covered in lights! It was amazing. Some of the animals were out too which was super cool. We saw elephants, lions, seals, llamas, and we even got to see them feed the penguins! It was a great experience and well worth the ticket price. I think it took us over an hour to walk through the whole thing.

Lions, tigers, bears and oh my; elephants and giraffes and rhinos and hippos and snakes and upside down jellyfish. I could keep going on and on, what a fantastic zoo experience. From Texas to Denver, this zoo was highly enjoyable and exciting. Y'alls staff took care of me when I lost a wallet and wanted to go back to get my charger for my phone. The habitats you've prepared are distinctly different for each creature, so my hat goes off to your design engineer and your team.

Wow! We got stuck in Denver in a layover because of the snow storm. We decided to stay and make the best of it. The zoo was on our list and we went on the warmest of the days (35 degrees). Immediately greeted by the active lions and African wild dogs. Staff was friendly and answered questions. I haven’t been to a zoo in a long time and was really impressed by Denver’s. While some animals weren’t seen, because of the temperature, there was plenty to keep us entertained for 3 hours. The gorilla, orangutan (baby!!!), and elephants were our favorites. We got hot dogs for lunch that were delicious! Well priced too. Was not crowded, the timed tickets were perfect. Well done Denver staff!

Love that there are places to sit and bathrooms conveniently located throughout the whole trail. The staff was friendly and helpful. Only recommendation for guests is to bring a water bottle. We didn't and the drinks are super pricey.

We typically love the Denver Zoo, always a great way to pass some time. Unfortunately this last time we went was a nightmare, everything was closed off, lines for simple exhibitions such as Tropical discovery were 1hr+ wait... not worth the $60 for a family of four this time around. I’m sympathetic to the fact that we are in a pandemic and we were ready to support our local zoo but my god the way it’s set up is almost increasing your exposure by double!

Great Zoo with plenty of space for the animals to roam freely. Easy to either walk or drive with lots of maps/sign posts making it easy to navigate your way around. The train is great in the summer months, but still lots to see during the colder months of the year. Great day out for all.

  • 4/5 Matthew 3 years ago on Google
This zoo is absolutely enormous (largest in the UK) so expect a fair bit of walking - we did about 7k and covered most of the park. During Covid expect queues for some of the animals. Lots of young kids on scooters - not sure if they provide them or just everybody was bringing their own. Animals get a lot of space in big open fields, but also often means you may not be able to get very close to the animals.

  • 5/5 Natalie A. 3 years ago on Google

Brilliant. The 7 year old niece absolutely loves the place. Very educational and leads of things to do - including a fabulous train ride. Above all though, are the animals. Plenty of them, easy to see and looked well looked after. In truth I'd rather see animals in the wild (only) but Whipsnade appears to have found a (humane) balance. All he animals looked in good nick and well cared for.

I took my son here for the day, we arrived at opening time and it took us nearly until closing time to walk all the way around. We saw nearly all of the animals (some were hiding). I thought the zoo were very good at making sure that everyone was staying socially distant in the enclosed areas and making sure people wore their masks. There was lots of hand sanitizer stations available around the zoo. It felt very safe. A great day out, i would highly recommend it

  • 5/5 Anthony F. 3 years ago on Google
Love coming to this zoo. Big, wide open spaces. Great for a day out and walk in the fresh air whatever the weather. If you enjoy photography this place is superb with the large animal enclosures and surrounding countryside. Free parking as well which in today’s age of charging for everything is very welcome. Would be good to see incentives for EV cars being allowed in to the zoo without paying extra or at the least at a discounted rate.

We had a very wet day here but still managed to have a good look around. There were not many places to find shelter from the weather and queues were very long to get into cafes and butterfly house due to Covid19 restrictions. We had boots and trainers on but really could have done with our wellies! We made the best of the unpredictable British weather but it would have been a nicer experience and more enjoyable on a dry day. This is a full day out if you want to try and see it all, the place is huge, you will be walking lots so sensible footwear is a must. It will be nice to go back again with less restrictions, hopefully when the sun is shining and play areas are open 😊

It is a massive zoo.very spread out. However there were not many animals. Since each area for specific animals are so big, it was hard to spot them and they were too far away. We were thinking of buying annual pass but don't think we will be revisiting.

  • 4/5 Zo S. 3 years ago on Google
Whipsnade is a huge place, I don't think its possible to see everything in one day especially if you have children with you. The enclosures are great and there was so many animals to see, it was a good day out! The only bad point is it was rather busy and crowded so it was hard to social distance and there wasn't many sanitiser stations around.

  • 5/5 Jocelyn D. 3 years ago on Google

Lovely zoo, grounds are maintained nicely and clean. Animal enclosures also look well maintained. Four stars because the space allocated for animals is not very big, it will be so much better if they could increase the space allocated for animal enclosures, feels sad to see these lovely furry beings kept in small enclosures (especially the big cats and giraffes, elephants).

An excellent day out, the residents look well cared for & have a good amount of space. The current pandemic restrictions caused a few annoyances, but that's not ZSL's fault. A great destination for a family day out or even just for a couple. Worth taking the car in for £12.50 (winter rate from beginning of November) a bit steep at £25.00 for the summer rate, but it is a charitable venture so it's a way of raising funds without making the ticket prices too high for everyone.

  • 5/5 Uma D. 3 years ago on Google
This zoo was amazing! My family I really had a great experience. We went during covid 19, the lines were busy and it actually felt normal apart from the 2 metres apart and wearing face masks. Right now it's a little different as far as entering because of the pandemic. You have to go online and reserve a time to come in. Face masks are required at all times except for when eating.

It was difficult to see some animals. We drove all the way down here only to realize there were NO pandas! How is this even possible?! It still doesn't compute! Since I was a little girl, my immense love for pandas was reinforced at the San Diego Zoo! The San Diego Zoo IS the zoo for pandas!! My goodness! I mean, I've considered giving up a normal life to live in SD just so I could work with pandas. This is beyond devastating!

  • 5/5 D.A. H. 3 years ago on Google
The Africa exhibit was not completed the last time we visited & it was worth the wait! Although it was 65 degrees, which is chilly outside (for SoCal), there was great turn out from the animals who ate, played and rested for all of us to see. While COVID restrictions are still a reality, make sure you get there early to find parking. Much of the parking lot has been sectioned off for a line to get in and answer two questions about COVID. This is a great zoo! If you plan on visiting here at least twice in the same year perhaps a season pass would be more economical for your situation.

  • 5/5 Christy M. 3 years ago on Google
The SD Zoo was a big hit with my 18-month-old son, and the adults enjoyed it just as much. Staff are managing Covid safety protocols well without detracting from the experience. Concessions are open and the animals are putting on a show! Highlights for us included the baby giraffe, the cheetah and dog buddies, and all the exotic birds.

  • 4/5 Shari Q. 3 years ago on Google
It was great to have the Zoo reopen after having been closed for several months due to Covid. They are supposedly limiting the number of people in the park but the day we went (on a Saturday) it was packed. People were wearing masks but no real social distancing going on, A lot of things still closed (no bus tour, all statues that kids can climb on roped off), kids zoo is completely closed to to renovation. We still enjoyed our time and hope its less crowded next time.

Most famous zoo in the world, but not the best for visitors. Much harder to see with Covid, no tram for 100 acres with up and down topography. Beautiful grounds, but animal exhibits are roped to keep people farther from animals. Excellent safety for Covid. The app is pretty useless. Map could be easier to read for seniors. Suggested walking routes would be helpful. Plexiglass for most exhibits not very clean, should be cleaned daily. Specialized guided tours are very pricey.

We booked through online zoo + zoo-safari $100 for each person. Had a good experience. Seen polar bear, red panda, snow leopard many more. Tram available @11 am. Check days and timings. It’s a free ride. Due to covid few tours are closed. Check website in detail before booking the tickets.

Went to the zoo Saturday feb 21st was completely dispointed how crowded it was. Park seemed to be at full attendence. Knowing you had to have a reservation to get in for entrance to the park. There was very little social distancing by the enclosures where window viewing were no park attendees staff was around to enforce. Had to skip view areas because to crowed and people bunching up to view animals. Overall all the animals were alert and active. The food was delicious.

Took my family here today (saturday). Get there super early otherwise you have to stand in roped lines waiting an hour, its so crowded, they have 6ft markers on the ground but its the rare people that were using them! All of this is to answer 4 SIMPLE typical covid screening questions! Its not like they couldn't ask people these questions as they are walking back and forth through the aisles. Once you spend an hour to get through the covid line you go to the main front gate and spend another 15-20 min waiting to show your tickets to get in. Inside though, except for restraunts and high traffic animals, people were more spaced out. Masks were worn pretty much 100%. There are some seriously steep hills that my teenage son and I had to use all our effort to pull the kids wagon up the slopes from the cats area up to the polar bears. By the time we got to the top at the skyrail, we were too exhausted to go through the rest of the park. Another issue that could be better planned or informed about is not being able to take a foldable stroller or wagon on the skyrail. You stand in a very very long line (again social distancing was not done by people despite the clear markers) and have to leave your stroller/wagon at the designated zone. The wait was worth it as the kids were so thrilled to take the ride. At the bottom though it isnt a quick turn around to get back to your wagon. You would have to stand in ANOTHER equally looong line to get back to the top. My kids were too tired to wait again and I needed my wagon to carry them. I ended up leaving my older teenaged son to watch his siblings while I quickly navigated the shortest (still lengthy) walking path to the top skyrail to retrieve my wagon and walk all the way back to my kids. FYI, The bus tours were closed also. Seeing the animals, WORTH IT, 5 STARS. Navigating the steep terrains and other issues, Not Worth It, 3 STARS.

I get that it’s February and it’s government funded but it was like a scavenger hunt to find an animal. They are all inside and there is no access into those buildings. They should do a better job of letting those building be accessible, or just close the zoo until summer.

  • 4/5 Deb C. 3 years ago on Google
Alot of construction, so some animals are gone right now. Understandable. It was a breeze with the Covid restrictions. Easy in, not a huge crowd on a Saturday. Everyone is spaced out nicely. Go and enjoy!

Great place to visit the social distance is great. I recently had surgery on my finger and had metal pins in it that where hurting. An employee at the carousel saw that and gave me a hand warmer. Thanks to her we where able to stay longer on the walk.

The Denver zoo farrr exceeded my expectations. This place is HUGE. And I mean, massive! It took us 3 hours to get through the entire zoo and that was with some power walking towards the end. The exhibits were pristine and it was so lovely seeing all the different animals being well taken care of. It seemed crowded at first (we went on a Saturday), but they're taking precautions with COVID and the crowds definitely thinned out once we actually entered.

All was well till big ol security guard swamped me about wagon. Rented before we walk around and take back like lady said. This time around came over said ill take that. Um my grandbabies were in there still and if he gestured would you like me to take that back definitely would suggest politeness instead of acting as if im really not returning. Don't plan on renting zoo wagon again thanks to the hounding security. Prefer to leave happy like we almost did. Not make me feel uneasy . really should have a return on end instead of going back around or mostly security that seems to profile

I’ve been going to the Denver Zoo my entire life and before I wouldn’t have given such a high review. The enclosures use to be so small and crowded but they have been working really hard recently to update and expand all enclosures. The service over the year has improved. The biggest downside right now is with COVID you have to select a time slot to go and there aren’t as many zookeepers walking around or have as many stations set up where you can learn more about the different animals. They also use to have a lot more variety of animals which was really cool but now that I have grown up I think it’s great because it has given them more space for the animals that they do have

  • 4/5 Chirelle P. 2 years ago on Google
The zoo itself is really big!! It will take you a couple hours to go through everything. We missed a whole section & had to backtrack. Some shows going on, not many but that could be Covid related. Felt like there were several exhibits without animals in them, which was unfortunate. Loved that they rotate animals into different enclosures to help them get a new feel every day. Elephant & Sea lion enclosure was my favorite! We don’t participate in any extra amenities, but they had sting rays to pet, ice cream, beer, drinks, etc.

Very nice Zoo! We had a good time. Parking was easy, bought tickets online, no waiting to get in. Wish there were more places to buy water and snacks, it was really hot the day we were there. Other than that it was a good visit!

Very beautiful zoo. Lots up nice upgrades, lots of food choices, and drink and snack carts everywhere. Water fountains and drink coolers to refill drinks. Staff is very kind, very helpful and always willing to talk about the animals. The enclosures have been upgraded in recent years and it is fun to see the animals have more room to play and interact. The famous monkey island is still there and always fun to watch the monkeys play and swing from tree branches. The addition of the aquarium area is a great idea. I love that we can experience sea and river creatures as well. One of my very favorite zoos!

Haven't been in a few years, but some ups and downs. Hotest part of the day so tough to see the animals and seemed a bit desolate for the first 30 minutes, but again, not going to knock them seeking shade. Quite a bit of the zoo was closed, but the new exhibits were were awesome. Could use some misters or something like I have seen at other zoos, but still a fun time. The stingray cove was perfect with slushies in a sand bar next to it!

Thoroughly enjoyed this zoo. All exhibits available to see were amazing. The sea lions were the most active. Quite a few snakes were active as well which was great to see. The kids rest and play area is very neat to experience. My kids loved it! Will definitely be back

Great experience. It was sad to see that the bald eagle had such a small cage tho. Also there are so many additional fees inside as well. They weren't outrageous but you esn't to experience everything be prepared to pay extra inside.

We chose to visit the zoo because it was my daughter's bday and needed an outdoor setting to celebrate. They did the best they could with there being a ton of people there. They have a timed, staggered entrance because of covid and there is hand sanitizer available at various locations throughout the park. The rides were still open. We were able to see a lot of the beautiful animals and the kids had fun!

This was my first time. Went on a Thursday at 11am. Because you buy your tickets for a certain time online beforehand, there really wasn’t a line to scan tickets and enter. The wait was only three minutes in total. They don’t have physical maps which was a minor disappointment. My kids like to mark off the animals they see but they weren’t with me on this day. The zoo wants you to download their app and use a digital map but to me, it’s more inconvenient to have to pull out my phone and scroll to view where I am. The animals were amazing and the zoo is well taken care of! The admission is very reasonable at $20 for adults. They have many snack carts and food stands throughout and we had no problem finding bottles of water along the pathway. Although $7 for water was a bit much. At least the profit is going to the zoo animals (hopefully). It was a very humid and hot day but as long as you’re prepared with cold water you’ll enjoy your time at the Denver zoo! Highly recommend!

The Denver Zoo is a pretty nice zoo. It is a long day if you are going to go through the whole thing to see all of the animals. Food is pretty expensive so if you want to save a little money I would suggest bringing a water bottle and some snacks. The exhibits are pretty nice for the most part and they have zoo personnel around some of the bigger exhibits to give information about the animals.

This is our favorite zoo we've visited as a family, and we've been to a few. The park is clean and the animals look to be healthy and active. The carousel and train are hits with the little ones, and the staff are very friendly. The park in clean and has good bathrooms and food offerings. We went to the Zoo lights in the park. It was beautiful 😍. Soooo many lights and so much to look at. Some of the "inside" exhibits were open but of course being dark it was hard to see them. They are there and you can defn hear them. The ambience with the lights and the beautiful Colorado weather will make a nice night out. Lots of families there. The reason I gave 4 stars is ONLY because I wish more food/snack vendors were there. The lines were really long on the few that were open.

Always awesome. Amazing zoo for a small market city. I love most of the exhibits. My kids especially loved Tropical Discovery. Met a zookeeper named Tom that we saw walking through. Had stopped him to ask a question. He not only stopped what he was doing, Id say he is now a hero to my kids and the others whom he gave his time to. Got to see Dart fish spit and he spent a solid several minutes answering the kids questions. No doubt everyone loved talking to a real zookeeper who seems to also be an awesome human. He represents ehat we feel about the zoo. Awesome place, awesome people.

Grew up with the Cincinnati zoo, another top rated zoo in the nation and I gotta say. We love the Denver zoo! It's a great place to go for a walk. We spend about an hour every other week or so walking around the exhibits. Can't beat it! Excited for the light show!

  • 5/5 Darren P. 2 years ago on Google
This is my favorite zoo that I have been to, even more so then San Diego!!! I love the way the exhibit are setup, you feel like you are right there with the animals. The tiger exhibit is especially cool as there a cat walk, no pun intended, right over your head. It's so cool, to see these beautiful animals so close. Currently there a light show you can go to after 5pm. I didn't experience that, but just seeing the display during the day, I can imagine it's a cool experience.

It’s a good city zoo as compared to other city zoos. Has a lot of variety but some exhibits can be a little sad with only one or two animals. Lots of food options so you never miss out on the ice cream or snacks, even had a pretty good Turkey burger!

The Denver Zoo was a wonderful experience! It is very interactive. The staff were so nice and helpful. Some of the animals like to show off for the attention! Our family loved the Denver zoo. It's a nice zoo that's laid out really well. We were able to walk around and visit the different animals and the crowd was light that day which made it even better. As most train rides at Zoo, it's way too short without much to see. However, on this trip we had a big foot sighting! So cool to see Bigfoot walking around in the background. Huge props for this attraction on the train ride!!

  • 5/5 Sivaramakrishnan V. 2 years ago on Google
Really enjoyed this zoo. It was compact, walkable and had a wide range of species. Staff was friendly, ticket rates were reasonable ($15 for adults). Located near Denver city park, it’s a short 5 min walk from the interesting musuem of science and nature which is yet another worthwhile attraction in this area. There’s ample parking here if you are renting a car, otherwise it’s pretty accessible via ride-based apps as well. They have a number of lions and penguins greeting you as you enter and then a plenitude of primates likes orangutans, chimpanzees and gorillas waving at you from their large enclosures. Animals are well looked after here like in other zoos in LA, Oakland and San Diego and have a good amount of space to wander about so let your conscience not bother you for indulging at their price. They have a fascinating selection of reptiles (snakes) and fish in their indoor aquarium. Definitely recommend it.

Went to see Zoo lights which is a beautiful experience this time of year. Especially a special place to spend time with the family and peer at artistically placed bright colorful light displays. It started at about 6:30 and we stayed for 2 hours even though it was a little chilly. I got to see some Malaysian Horses outside being fed some treats by the zoo staff. Went to warm up inside the "tropical discovery". Of course all those animals were out and about because most reptiles and amphibians are nocturnal. Afterwards we visited the gift shop where we were greeted by a very sweet young lady named Luna. She was not only helpful with all of our shopping needs but was able to find our sizes and ring us up in a timely manner. Overall great customer service in that gift shop with an employee named Luna! Highly recommend Zoo lights for anyone visiting the Denver Zoo during the month of December and I think the beginning of January.

I love the Denver Zoo! You can get pretty close to the animals and they all look happy and well cared for. Parking is free. They have good food options too. If you’re planning on being there for a while to see everything, I would recommend purchasing the meal plan with your ticket and save some $.

Our one year old loved this zoo. It's small enough that we were able to walk through most exhibits in an afternoon. The parking is free and the tickets are quite inexpensive, especially if during winter pricing. It was quite busy on a Sunday afternoon, full of families.

  • 5/5 Cindy M. 1 year ago on Google
Great zoo with a very considerable amount of zoo worker and animal interaction which was so enjoyable. There were also several workers (or volunteers) around to help you get a better look at an animal. We rode the train and the carousel and bought all of our tickets online before we went. Waited in quick lines for both. Bathrooms seemed to be a bit spread out so keep that in mind and there was some mild construction that did not impact us at all.

  • 5/5 David C. 1 year ago on Google
The Denver Zoo is large with many different exhibits and animals. Any animal you want to see can be seen here for the most part. There is a lot of activities to do here for all age ranges including train rides, typical zoo food, a large area to walk around in nice weather, and beer. The gift shop is well stocked as well. The zoo is also a quick drive away from downtown as well which is convenient for going out afterwards. During the winter time, they also do an event called Zoo Lights where they hang lights all around the zoo to give a unique experience. Overall, I think this is a well-run zoo that is a fun time every time I visit.

You'll enjoy your time in the zoo. It is great but not the best in Colorado in my opinion. The one in Colorado Springs are better organized. Spare a minimum of two hours to enjoy the zoo sections. Buy your tickets online in advance to avoid the wait. It costs $20 per an adult.

We came on a calm weekday. I like that it was quick to get in and really a chill vibe. I like that they sell alcohol. What I didn't like was that it is not wheel chair or stroller friendly. The doors on the inside animal exhibits do not have a wheelchair button or anything. We had 3 babies so it was a pain. Also, there were not many animals and a lot of construction going on.

We had a lot of fun and the reptile house was amazing. A few complaints would be: it could use more trail signs that point to exhibits as we got lost a few times, and the food I paid nearly $40 was terrible. I recommend not eating at the cafeteria by the sea lion exhibit or at least don't get a sandwich from there. The soft serve ice cream I got by the entrance was great though. It was a hot day and the abundance of water refill and misting stations was much appreciated!

  • 5/5 Casey E. 1 year ago on Google
Always love going to the zoo. Get your tickets in advance to save time and hassle. BRING A WATER BOTTLE, they have filling stations all over and it will save you from spending too much on park drinks. Lots of food options. Wear sunscreen- I mean it, and even a sun hat would be a good idea. Most animals are more active in late afternoon then they are when the park opens but also it's less hot early in the day so pick your poison. Definitely recommend stopping by the hospital to see if they have any cool procedures or surgeries going on that you can watch- and even if they dont, the staff there have so many videos and etc. of cool things to show you!

If you're in Denver, with kids or if you just like animals, this is definitely one of the best zoos I've ever been to. I absolutely love the monkeys, sea lions, and the lions and tigers. If you go at the right time of day the tigers are sometimes walking on a ramp above the entrance, which is obviously really cool. And the monkeys are just fabulous lol, they're adorable and just fun to watch. My kids loved it. Plan to bring sunscreen and protective gear, there aren't many areas that you can sit in the shade, and usually the places that are in the shade usually already have people sitting on them haha. Same thing goes if there's rain in the forecast, bring umbrellas. The stuff in the gift shop is overpriced, but that's to be expected. If your kids are anything like mine, you're going to have to tell them about a dozen times that you can get them that exact toy at Walmart for $1-$5 instead of the $20-$25 they are charging at the zoo. But, all in all, it's a wonderful place and it's definitely worth seeing, once or twice, or even thirty times. Oh, and if you get food stamps, it's only $1 to get in! We were incredibly lucky that the family behind us let me know about this because I was about to pay $84 for tickets and only ended up paying $4. So that's the best deal ever, a whole day at one of the best zoos for $4! Just go already!

It's been a few years since we have been to this zoo. Not much has changed. But, there are a lot of closed exhibits because they are making some cool looking updates. I can't wait to see the kangaroo exhibit. After 5 it is $5. It's a fair price since it seems most of the animals are hiding away.

My family really enjoyed our time here. It is a lot of walking, but there are several places to stop and eat or observe the animals and places to rest on your way around. The animals were pretty active and I was impressed with the enclosures.

We went to the Zoo in the evening 5pm. Reservations were made for 3 of us for $15 dollars. We enjoyed the Zoo on the parts being restored and built, but the older side needs a lot of work, and was disappointing. The cost of most goodies were pretty expensive. We hope all costs to enjoy the Zoo, foods an goodies prices could be reasonable for the public,as well as admission. Loved the Lorikeets, beautiful red male! Loved the elephants,& tigers! Loved all the fish and reptiles!! Thank you for the $5 evening cost.

The Denver Zoo is a fantastic place to visit! With its wide variety of animals and beautiful exhibits, it offers a memorable experience for visitors of all ages. The zoo's commitment to conservation and education is evident in their efforts to provide a comfortable and natural habitat for the animals, as well as informative signage and interactive displays. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly, and there are plenty of opportunities for up-close encounters with the animals. Overall, the Denver Zoo is a must-visit attraction for animal lovers and families alike.

OK zoo. Workers and volunteers are knowledgeable and they are linked with the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. They treat their animals well and let them choose where to go which is great but then the map does not match up and some animals do not like heat but there is no indoor viewing location to increase the change to see the animal. But the app is decent and overall the zoo is good. The food trucks food was great!

Of course we picked the hottest day of the year to visit but this place is big!! Not a lot of hills. The animals were Hot. WE were too. Nice little area for picnics. Free parking. And if you have any EBT card you can get in for $1 per person! (Check out the website)

Really enjoyed the zoo. It has a nice layout and flow. They are continuing to improve and add exhibits. The animals appear to truly be taken care of and the staff were on hand to answer questions... High recommended.

This zoo is a great one. Nice and flat, so it's easy for kids to walk, elderly, and for pushing strollers. Wide paths. They have made so many improvements over the years and continue to do so. There's a lot of construction at the moment, but it's still really accessible. Food options are usually pretty good, but only a few are open right now. Decent prices. Summer months bring the interactive sting ray exhibit, which we love.

It was my first time at a zoo, and it was mostly incredible. The animals were epic, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I only have 2 complaints; there was a lot of trash, even in some of the enclosures. The place is also kind of a maze to get through. I still highly recommend checking out this zoo.

It was beautiful, but a little on the hot side visiting. We went through the entire park only viewing about 70% of the animals. It was later in the afternoon while we tried to take our time we had to rush through some of the exhibits which was a little let down on our part. The animals looked well kept up and overall a great day to enjoy if you ever are in Denver.

Always an amazing trip. We love the zoo so much. Come from Florida to visit. It’s wonderful. There is some construction going on right now but should be finished by 2023.

It's one of the biggest and most amazing zoos I've been to! The park is HUGE, and they even have live performances from the sea lion! It's actually cool seeing them in action. I think we spent a good 2-3 hours here, and the time flew by! The Online portal to buy tickets was a bit confusing since I feel like they're still using the old covid protocol & asking us what time slot we wished to come in at, I decided to just bite the bullet and buy tickets at the door and it worked, we didn't have to wait for a timeslot or anything, we walked right in. 😀 Most of the animals were up and alert. We even got to see the tiger walking around when they're usually sleeping. Wish I tried some of the food they were selling cause it all smelled so good. I'd definitely come back!

Great huge zoo. 5 mile walk to see it all. Perfect weather today made it a great experience. The 4 lion brothers and the baby mandrill right at the glass were truly memorable.

It took my 5&8 year old daughters and me 6.5 hours to walk the entire zoo. It was awesome. Good bathrooms, helpful and friendly staff and nice atmosphere over all. I recommend the everything pass as well. It was a hit.

The zoo was great there were a few places that were under construction but we were there to see the elephants and it's amazing what they have for the elephants there was a mandrill baby mom dragged him around it was so cute as I said some of the places were under construction but otherwise all in all it was a great time! Except there's a Sasquatch there and he likes to chase you so just a heads up! Didn't think I had a phobia until Sasquatch was lol!

Large zoo, kinda confusing to find your way, download a map or google maps it to find your way. Lots of new construction going on...animals were active but lots of empty areas and cages. Very busy on the Friday we went. The tropics area/building was way way worth it just by itself...spent almost an hour just in that building. You can bring in bags etc...so it is ok to pack food and have a lunch at tables by elephants.

Went for free Zoo day with a few friends and had a great time! Be sure to check online to see when upcoming "free entry" days are, and be sure to also reserve your tickets in advance! When we went, we got to witness a wide variety of animal interactions. It's always a great time at the Denver Zoo!

Great trip to the zoo. We went during the Cryptid event. Had a great time Cryptid hunting. Even Big Foot stopped to take some pics. Lots of pumpkins everywhere. Some exhibits are undergoing renovations and expansions which is great. Still lots to see.

Visited in November, I can say I enjoyed everything about this zoo! There was no wait for tickets, there’s machines you can buy them from or there’s also employees inside office if you need to pay with cash. As soon as you enter you’d pick which path to go since the zoo is huge! Everything is in a section like monkeys and tigers etc. they have this GORGEOUS area of sea life, tropical animals and snakes. They have a sloth that hangs out up top of the area (it’s a building) and I think that is so unique. The building is covered in natural plants and it is very warm inside so dress appropriately. There’s also another building where you can feed birds. Bathrooms at almost every corner, food stands and cafes available as well. Another beautiful attraction in Colorado, hopefully to return one day!
